REVIEW: 2012-2013 PANINI THREADS BASKETBALL

First off, I would like to say thanks to the WONDERFUL people at Panini America for providing us with this box to review. Here are many places you can find Panini America: official site, blog, Twitter, and Facebook.

We are going to start a new review process starting with this product. Just the wanting to showcase the cards more in-depth is the aim here. Let us know your thoughts on our new set up for reviews.

Box Break Down:
  • 24 Packs Per Box, 5 Cards Per Pack
  • (3) Autographs and (1) Memorabilia Card Per Box
  • Boxes Run around $96

The Base cards. Front and back are of Kevin Garnett
BASE CARDS: The base cards have a bronze bottom border that helps stand out the cards. Names are written horizontal on the side with a team color background which doesn't take too much away from the photography. And speaking of photography, all players seem to be up to date with their new team uni's.If you are a fan of putting together a base set, this is a nice looking one but becareful as the corners can easily be damaged. We tried to put a set together out of this box but didn't complete one. It might take you a box and a half or maybe picking up a few singles to fill the voids.

Here is the complete checklist for Threads provided by Panini America: 2012-13 Panini Threads BK Checklist

We landed a rare blue parallel of Drew Gooden
Blue parallels are numbered to 10

Kobe Anthology Insert. One 5 card pack per box of 12/13 Panini NBA cards

Back of the Kobe's
INSERTS:The inserts are nothing spectacular but where they lack in design they make up for in photography. Inserts like High Flyers and Talented Twosomes stand out for how the players are photographed. I do like the design of the Kobe Anthology. But my favorite insert that we landed at least six of has to be the player jersey die cuts. Die cuts have always been a hobby favorite. The base cards also have other parallels.

AUTOGRAPHS: The popular Threads brand returns with 100 rookie Cards printed on wood and signed on-card! These were a favorite of ours to pull. But getting an Drummond jersey die cut auto is what really made the box.

JERSEY/PATCH CARDS: With a trio that included Blake Griffin couldn't go wrong with these. It is nicely designed as well and some great pairings. With the product only including one jersey per box will help its popularity as the hobby for the most part have been over taken with tons of jersey cards.

OVERALL THOUGHTS:A good base card design, 3 autographs per box and the one jersey or Prime hit you could get makes this product well worth spending under $100 to get. With some big name rookies to chase and with them being signed on card a lot of collectors will enjoy this product.

RATINGS:  Bloggers Note: Our ratings are based specifically on the blaster, box or packs we opened and do not express what the overall product could bring. Ratings based on a 1-5. 1 Being the lowest and 5 being the highest.

REVIEW: 2012 Panini Gridiron Football

First off, I would like to say thanks to the WONDERFUL people at Panini America for providing us with this box to review. Here are many places you can find Panini America: official site, blog, Twitter, and Facebook.

We are going to start a new review process starting with this product. Just the wanting to showcase the cards more in-depth is the aim here. Let us know your thoughts on our new set up for reviews.

Box Design
Box Break Down:
  • 18 Packs Per Box, 8 Cards Per Pack
  • (4) Autograph or Memorabilia Cards Per Box!
  • Boxes Run around $110
Find one of these per pack with codes you enter for a shot to win a trip to the Pro Football Hall Of Fame!!
Base Card Front
Base Card Back
More very photographic base cards
Base Rookie Card
Back of a Base Rookie Card
BASE CARDS: The base cards in Gridiron are spectacular. The photos are stunning and make you feel like you are apart of the action. Some even make you remember that play or special moment. With little border (border consists of a players name in silver and with a team colored background) these base cards really are all about telling a story. The rookie cards are found one per pack. The one thing I have against the base cards is the black on the back. It leads to easy noticed dings. And in our box anyways, we couldn't get a base set put together.

This is how the base set breaks down:

200 Commons
100 Rookies
And if you want to put together a master set you will also need the 35 Gridiron Gems Autographs.

Rookie X parallel
Back of the parallel numbered to 100
X parallel numbered to 250
Gold X parallel numbered to 100
4 other insert sets. The bottom Air Command is the Gold Parallel numbered to 100.
INSERTS: The designs for the inserts are not bad and most seem to have numbered parallels of. The one complaint would be the X parallels. You get three per box on average, {(3) Silver X's, (2) Crash Course, (2) Arms Race, (2) Aerial Assault, and (2) Monday Night Heroes per Box} but you can't honestly tell the difference between them and a base card without feeling the card. Yes..there is a indented X in the card. I could only tell when going through the cards to sort them something felt different about one of them and at first I thought it was a printer error. But I turned the card over to find out it was numbered and after further investigation finding it was a silver X parallel. Just look at the Ray Lewis and Troy P and tell me if you can tell?

AUTOGRAPHS:With at least 2 per box on average, you get a nice variety. I seem to be stalked by Bengals DT Devon Still as that is my third auto of his this year. The autograph design is the rookie one but with a red color X in the back behind the player. However..I really loved the Gridiron Gems rookie autos. Though my player may never step foot on the playing field, any card that has an oversized jersey swatch that is signed and that you can pull in and out (indent to pull it out at the top of card) is alright with me.

JERSEY/PATCH CARDS: This box landed this sick, sick patch. These prime pieces are numbered to 49.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: This product provides 1. great base cards to collect, 2. at least two autographs but you would have to assume most have 3 which gives you less of the game jersey and player worn jersey experience and 3. a deep checklist of auto's. Other than the X parallel there wasn't too many negatives about this product. The box seemed well worth the price. And you never know what kind of Gridiron Gem you could find.

RATINGS:  Bloggers Note: Our ratings are based specifically on the blaster, box or packs we opened and do not express what the overall product could bring. Ratings based on a 1-5. 1 Being the lowest and 5 being the highest.

SPORT CARD COLLECTORS FINAL PLAYER OF THE DAY CONTEST

2010 Panini Gridiron Gear Football Hobby Box
We have been trying to plan out this finale for awhile now...how do we end such a wonderful run? What can we do that could challenge everyone? We decided a true tough challenge was needed. But...we have thought of something with a few steps instead...but first things first. The following individuals..assuming they participate in this contest as well..are guaranteed a prize envelope at the end for their weekly (some came close but missed one week...we had aimed for every week entries for this part of the contest) participation and the fact they haven't won any of them(with none of these individuals in the running for Week 7's contest this stands true). These envelopes contain either an insert, autograph, jersey card, and possibly a GOLDEN TICKET!! The names are:

John M
Harold Tourjee
mrsblu1976
Tkdkid1
Hamster87
Jamie B

But most importantly with these prize envelopes we have mailed out at least 9 of these and yet to be contacted on those about a GOLDEN TICKET find. Hopefully everyone has checked these over well. We don't know where or how our friend stuck them in there. So that means that 3 out of the 5 of you COULD be getting a GOLDEN TICKET.  But remember that you must be entered this week to qualify. Don't know how many of these envelopes we have left..but we will check on them and additional people could be awarded. It was a guessing game at the start of how many of these we would need. We do have enough..possibly more than we need. All will have to be awarded in order to get the GOLDEN TICKETS out there to all of you! Like I said, it will have to be checked on.

Now onto this weeks prize...we have also yet to be contacted for a GOLDEN TICKET on these so make sure you are checking your packages closely like we stated above we don't know how or where they were put into these prizes. We have been though very patient in waiting to see who gets them. So there is a BIG possibility that this may be the grandest of grand finales. There could be a GOLDEN TICKET in here. So we need to do something bigger.

So here is what we are asking you to do:

Step 1: Click onto this link:

Panini NFL Player Of The Day

Step 2. Tell us one player off from the Player Of The Day poster.

Step 3: Pick the following games:

NYG @ Cincy
Detroit @ Minnesota
ATL @ N.O.
SD @ TB
Dallas @ Philly

Step 4: Tell us how many TD's without going over Peyton Manning will have

Step 5:  Tell us your favorite part of the Panini promo and your favorite part of our promo

Bonus Step...to avoid a possible 3rd tiebreaker...we would like you to link this contest EITHER Twitter or Facebook. That would break the tiebreaker if you were involved in one. Make sure you leave that link in comments!

YOUR ENTRIES ARE DUE BY SATURDAY NIGHT 10th

Bloggers Note: ALL OF THE BOX PICTURES FEATURED WHEN CLICKED UPON LINK YOU TO A PLACE YOU CAN PURCHASE THEM. MAKES IT EASIER THAN HAVING TO SEARCH FOR THEM WHEN THE BOXES ARE IN FRONT OF YOU TO PURCHASE.

PLEASE also MAKE SURE you click onto the link below to check out the Panini Player Of The Day website! A lot of fun stuff to be found there and WE and Panini will much appreciate it!!
