Sports Movies..Which ones do you watch?

When it comes to sports movies..they can all seem to have the same storyline. This so and so no name person, coach, team is at its end and then makes a big comeback and ends up winning the championship and so on. These types of sports movies..I honestly do not care much about just because it is the same ole story we have heard time and time again just with different actors and teams.

I like something fresh and with a twist and mostly something with humor. Because I am somebody with humor myself. So, when it comes to sports movies, I don't watch many though I love sports, and the ones I do watch are mostly comedies.

But the ones below (these are only a few of the ones I like that standout above the others) I do enjoy and have watched a few times. Yes, a couple of them do fit the storyline..but in a different way.

Product DetailsThe first time I heard about this guy Vince Papale, a  substitute teacher in Philadelphia who was 30 years old, out of work, abandoned by his wife, and also working as a bar tender then made an open tryout with the Eagles in 1976. I was curious and rented it. Its an amazing story of how a guy overcomes some issues in his life and makes a football team. Not something you ever hear about. Especially now-a-days. Though this movie is Eagle heavy (despite the one Giants fan in the movie) and being a Giants fan..well...I do enjoy it still.

Product DetailsThe  O'Shea brothers, one the all around athlete the other..well owns a gas station. When a bet goes on between them a younger brother puts a team of misfit kids together (the Giants) and plays his team against his brothers Cowboys team and shows that with a winning attitude and giving kids a chance you can overcome the odds and win. I like this movie not just because its about the Giants, or because it has cameos of John Madden and others but because its just fun to watch.

Product DetailsLets see with the humor of Director Harold Ramis, Rodney Dangerfield, Bill Murray who is a laugh in this movie and my favorite actor Chevy Chase this movie is well worth the watch. It also has some good humor especially built around Dangerfields character.

What kind of sports movies do you enjoy? And which ones are your favorites and why?

  1. Great post.

I can see my film pick being somewhat esoteric, and only getting in to the "sport movie" designation on a technicality, but that movie is the original "Odd Couple," starring Jack Lemon and Walter Matthau. In the film --- which is hilarious, if you haven't seen it, in that innocent 1960's way --- Matthau plays a sports writer. There is a scene that all baseball fans can appreciate, especially when we recall there was no privilege of the instant replay at the time.
