Random Card Of The Day: Kevin Appier Finest Hurlers 1997

Preview: Panini Golden Age Baseball 2013

When I heard that Panini was bringing back the Golden Age, I was stoked. I went bonkers over this product if you go back to my review of it. Loved how they put everything in the world together into one set. And the 2013 edition will be no different.

There is a 150 card base set. It consists of personalites from sports and non sports alike. Even entertainment and politics. We may not all agree on politics, but having them in this set is worthwhile.

Every box should give you one Historic Signatures card, one Museum Age Memorabilia card, 24 Mini Parallels, two Bread For Energy inserts, two Delong Gum inserts, one Three Stooges insert, one Tip Top Bread Label, eight Golden Age Playing Cards and one Exhibit box-topper.

Here is a small glimpse:

Thanks to Jammin JDcards for providing us with the FANdom Card Of The Day!

National Hockey Card Day..WITH CONTEST!

Upper Deck put on another great and successful National Hockey Card Day in both the U.S. and in Canada. We were fortunate enough to get our hands onto three packs of each. We will showcase some of the cards here and at the end look for a chance to win a four card lot with two from US and two from Canada.

Each set for each US and Canada is of 15 cards. That are broken down into 5 card subsets. There are five cards per pack in each. One card is a checklist while others are the base cards. Also look for randomly inserted autographs. We didn't pull any. The card stock is very high gloss and a very well design for both as well. The checklists only allow you to hit star players. You cannot go wrong.

Review: 2013 Press Pass Total Memorabilia Racing

Totally dug this product. If you are a NASCAR fan you have got to give this a go. 'Even if you know nothing about NASCAR give it a try. And its like opening up a Christmas present. You unwrap the first layer. Open the box. Then you have got to open the team bag to get to the contents. You never know what can be hidden within!!

Here are our thoughts:

Box Break Down:
- Five cards
- One Numbered Parallel
- One Memory Lane Insert
- One Smooth Operators Insert
- One Authentic Race-Used Memorabilia, Rising Stars Autograph, or Signature Collection Autographed Memorabilia Book Card
-$100 a box
-5 Packs Per Box, 9 Cards Per Pack

BASE CARDS:The base cards have a high end feel to them. I like the design as its action photography and the rookies in the set (Rising Stars) are in a subset form and do not match the rest of the base design which is a great thing. The fact that they are appealing as well helps with the card being outlined in silver edges and writing of Rising Stars in Silver staring out at you from the cardboard.

INSERTS: There are parallels, one per pack, Davey Allison remembrance cards, one per pack, and two other nice looking inserts in Memory Lane (childhood picture) and Smooth Operator very shiny. Overall, Press Pass did a great job with the inserts in this product.
AUTOGRAPHS: I really dig this card. They took the Rising Stars (made it gold instead of silver), embedded an auto in it. The only thing I think this card could use help on was where the authentication sticker was placed. They put it over the auto. I think something like that should have been put on the back of the card. Maybe even behind the autograph. And the fact that it doesn't cover the whole box is kind of distracting as well. But overall, a nice gold design and a very thick card.

JERSEY/PATCH CARDS:NASCAR and Press Pass put together probably the best memorabilia cards on the market. Its not just a fire suit anymore. They used gloves (which you can see a stain on), sheet metal, shoe, its amazing! These cards are like twice the thickness of a filler card. The design is excellent.Very very impressed!

OVERALL THOUGHTS: If this product was just based on look alone, I would recommend you go buy it(not that I wouldn't anyway. The memorabilia swatches that you can tell were used in races is as authentic and cool as it gets). But its based on value per box for most. The price and what you pull in this box was a little iffy. Don't know if full value was returned or not with the drivers we got. It could be close however.. But some boxes we have seen packed a big punch. Booklet cards can be found in this product and they are too a thing of beauty. Most of the breaks we have seen were mostly memorabilia laden and no autos. That must be hence the name. I still think there is value to be found within boxes of this product. And if you can buy it by pack, try that first. You just never know...

RATINGS:  Bloggers Note: Our ratings are based specifically on the blaster, box or packs we opened and do not express what the overall product could bring. Ratings based on a 1-5. 1 Being the lowest and 5 being the highest.

Random Card Of The Day: Tony Romo 2012 Panini Contenders Cracked Ice #20

Review: Sp Authentic Football 2012

Upper Deck's most popular brand (least I think it is) packs a punch every year and has collectors running out to get it. Though it may not be the same product that came out a few years ago when Upper Deck had an NFL license for it, the product still looks great and can still produce those one of a kind hits.

Box Break Down:
  • 24 Packs Per Box, 5 Cards Per Pack
  • Look for (3) Autographs Per Box!
  • (1) Rookie Auto Patch Per Box!
  • $110 a Box

BASE CARDS: Sp Authentic stays to its core, white background base card with player the main focus. I am usually not one for non action photos for products, but this is Sp Authentic, this is an exception. The thing I don't like about the base card is the players name on top of the head. I would have either just left the last name the way it is or have put the first name on top of it. Other than that, glad Sp Authentic stays with its success with the base cards. You should also be able to put a set together in one box.

INSERTS: If you haven't tried this product, the Canvas cards have got to be some of the coolest inserts out on the market. I was hoping to land one of the awesome Stadium Authentics cards because I am a fan of acetate, but the next card after this sentence makes up for that.I haven't quite figured out why a couple of the base cards are dark. I assumed those are parallels. So stuck them right here under inserts.

AUTOGRAPHS: Boom!!! Trent Richardson Gold Parallel auto numbered 5/5!! I was just excited to have gotten my best hit ever out of Sp Authentic with a Richardson auto until  I realized it was numbered. Definitely made up for the other two hits in the box. And its on card for you non sticker auto fans.

JERSEY/PATCH CARDS:To me this product has always been about its auto/patch rookie cards. With one per box that is usually the hit that decides the value of your box. Luckily for us, it wasn't. I don't know who this Jeff Fuller is, but he seems to be haunting me in my Upper Deck breaks this year. However, the design sticks with the great designs of the past. The auto is on card. And these are still some of the hottest rookie cards on the market. Just pick up your Beckett or check eBay and you will see that. The Sp Threads pack, you get these 1:72 for odds, was sitting on top of our packs in the box. Though its Kellen Moore, someone else who stalked me in 2012, the card is pretty cool. The auto is signed on jersey. The card is printed or feels printed on a very thick acetate. Despite the player, these cards rock. I was a little disappointed though that the Threads pack counted as one of the autos in the box. I think it should have been an extra since its a tough pull.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Sp Authentic is worth a try. Hopefully your box turns out the big auto hits with three per box its worth a shot. Hopefully you get that big hit or name auto. I have seen a couple bad breaks of this product with no name autos and patch auto hits. But then there could be that RG3, Trent Richardson, Doug Martin, Dan Marino, Barry Sanders and so on box. Like with most products..theres high risk and possible high return. But if you are a fan of Sp Authentic, this years will not disappoint.

Random Card Of The Day: Michael Jordan 1994 Classic

Review: Rittenhouse IndyCard Series 2007

Searching for that special Danica Patrick card? Well...we were... This is the product that packed her rookie card in it. And since it was a box we won from a site, it was a different kind of bust as we tore through looking for anything with Danica's name on it. Hoping for an auto, but 3 rookie cards will do.

Here was our thoughts on this product:

Box Break Down:
  • 24 Packs Per Box, 4 Cards Per Pack
  • Two Autographs Per Box!
  • $50 a Box
  • Each box is serial numbered

BASE CARDS: The base cards look good. A little dark, but thats okay. We did find it interesting that when laying out our Danica cards that all three connected together like a puzzle. Those are the first three cards in the base set shown together above. One of the bigger issues we had was chipping. Look at the card above on the left hand corner. The first 8 packs we opened contained at least two of these per pack with that damage. The dark colored design I can deal with. The damaged corners that will hurt putting a base set together not so much.

INSERTS: Not much in terms of inserts in a box. Probably got about 5. The Dan Weldon is done in black and white and has a "rough" feel to it. The other two inserts have great photography with silver overtaking the top or bottom.

AUTOGRAPHS: The autographs are on card. We were lucky and hit two of the better ones from the product. These have a "rough" feel to them as well. I do like the autographs in this product. Well done! Chipping however on some could be a problem due to the black color on the card.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: For the price, go try it. Especially if you are a Indy fan. With two autographs, 3 Danica rookies, we got tons of value from this not to mention we got a ton of other rookies from it as well. I would guess most boxes you would get your moneys worth out of. Especially whatever lucky box is holding the Danica auto. The only issue I even had with it was the chipping. Other than that..good buy!

Preview: Panini Prizm Baseball 2012 (Preliminary Checklist too)

In late April Panini is releasing a baseball version of its popular Prizm brand. And as like the other two sports, this one will be different as well. You will find the base Prizms, Gold Prizms and Finite Black 1/1 Prizms only in hobby. Green will only be in retail. And the Red and Blue Prizms will be in Target and Walmart products. So finding the colored prizms you want you will have to do some searching.

Panini America 2012 Prizm Baseball Preview (24)

On average, each hobby box of 2012 Prizm Baseball will deliver two autographs and three Prizms along with the following insert yield: Four USA Baseball, two Team MVPs, two Dominance, one Elite Extra Edition, one Rookie Relevance, one Brilliance and one Top Prospect.

If  retail is your buy, each box should deliver three Green Prizms, one Elite Extra Edition, one Rookie Relevance, one Team MVPs, one Top Prospects, one Dominance and one USA Baseball.

Either or anyway you buy this know its going to be hot!
