My first Geno Smith Rookie Card

 photo geno_zps43c663e9.jpg

Yep thats right..thats what I am calling it. Though its only a Sports Illustrated for kids card, some of these bad boys are HOT! Right now this card is going for $5 but I think it will go up in value before its done. The Andrew Luck rookie version of this last year was going on eBay for over $20 at this time and right now some are still selling for that. I have yet to get my hands onto any 2013 football that has Smith in it so having this card is my only start to what will be a another great rookie chase of 2013.

What are your thoughts on Sport Illustrated for Kids Cards? Do you consider them real cards?

This is what was said of the break by freudinio
"So, when I was shopping online the other day, I decided to bring in a box of Panini's Prestige 2012/13. I was fortunate enough to pull 4 bonus shots (one of those being black) which is really cool in my book, I also got myself a Kevin Durant Jersey card and ofcourse a good selection of rookies (including both Irving and Lillard). This set has a lot of different inserts, which makes it really fun for a casual collector, like myself, to open. I even got myself some decent autos!"

We would like to thank freudinio for sharing this break with us. And if you got a break to share, email us at sportcardcollectors@hotmail.com and do a small writeup with pictures like this and thats it!

FAN BOX BREAK: Prizm Basketball 2012-2013

It's pretty exciting when you know you have made an impression in the hobby. When I was contacted by a fan overseas that wanted to share a couple of breaks that was even more exciting and makes you feel what you do is really worth it.

So here is freudinio's break of Prizm Basketball.

This is what was said of the break by freudinio
"So I just got my box of prizm in the door and honestly, if the cards weren't so good looking, I would be very dissapointed. I got solid rookies and base card stars though. However the autographs and general quantity and quality of inserts, leave A LOT to be desired. That being said, you can't deny the pure awesomeness in both looks and quality of these cards, which still makes it, for me atleast, a worthwhile buy."

Thanks to freudinio for sharing this break with us! If you want to share a break with us, please email us to sportcardcollectors@hotmail.com with some pictures like this and a small writeup on your thoughts about the product.

Preview: 2013 Upper Deck Tiger Woods Master Collection

Coming to a hobby store near you...Tiger Woods in a box. Yep thats right. Upper Deck has decided to take the golf star and box him up for sale....well almost.

If you are a fan of Tiger's and are sitting in a mansion most likely this is a product for you! The cards come as a factory set. There are 80 cards in the base set all in the box along with the following:
  • 1 Piece of Autographed Tiger Woods Memorabilia
  • 2 Additional Tigers Woods Autographs
  • 1 Slambalaya or Masterpieces Signature Card
  • 1 Championship Gear Memorabilia Card
Now obviously with 3 guaranteed Woods autos in a box you know this will run you a few bucks. At this point we have no images or release date known on this product. When we do we will update this post.

This product follows a recently  announced Michael Jordan set we previewed here: http://sportcardcollectors.blogspot.com/2013/03/preview-2013-upper-deck-michael-jordan.html

Let us hear your thoughts in the meantime on this very very high end release.

BASE CARDS:The base design, just like last years, brings me back to 1997 when this product first debuted. Its micro etched technology is awesome. The players have a 3D appeal and seem to jump out at you.Though not many cards in a box, this is a very set worthy looking base cards.

 photo IMG_9368_zps53ba57f3.jpg

INSERTS: The inserts, though they are parallels and look great only getting one was a little odd. The blue ones, are numbered 199. I think it would be fun to put together a rainbow of the many parallels from this product.

 photo IMG_8064_zps6a4d2e85.jpg

 photo IMG_8238_zps194fa06d.jpg

AUTOGRAPHS: 4 autographs in this box was a nice haul. Having your big pull as a redemption of a okay player not so much. Harrison Smith was a nice pull and the autographs against the micro etched technology really stand out with the blue ink used for the autographs. Not to mention, the use of sticker autos here for you sticker auto haters you really can't see them. They blend in with the silver etched cardboard.

 photo IMG_2069_zpsaa8e3ec8.jpg

JERSEY/PATCH CARDS: Just like with the autographs, the jersey cards stand out. Even with white plain one color swatches the micro etched red (the other parallels too) just stand out.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: If this product was all about the design, I would have 5's straight across the board. No matter the color, the micro etched just look nice with the base cards, autos, jerseys and the combos. But I have to be honest with you guys about this particular break. I would say this was a poor break of the product. I have seen some great ones and some tremendous cards pulled, but this wasn't it. Only 1 insert, a redemption as the big auto hit, and just no parallels to anything it was just not a good break this time. However, I am not steering you away from this product. There is way too much to find in this product to be turned away. I actually recommend it. Panini did a great job with design and the autographs such as this big hit that came from Cardsmith breaks:

Numbered 5/5 is just an example of the big hits waiting to happen. Just because we had an off box, doesn't mean you will.

Review: Panini Basketball 2012-2013 with CONTEST!!

 photo IMG_9652_zps5726eaf4.jpg
BASE CARDS:For a cost efficient product Panini did really well with the design. I like the mix of stars and Legends into the checklist of this product for the base cards. There are rookies from the double rookie class to be found as well. The only thing I didn't like is if you are a new collector or didn't know who the rookies were from the class, the rookie cards do not have the rookie card symbol on them so you have no idea that they are a rookie. If that had been included, there would be no problem with the base cards. I know I have mentioned a lot with too much bordering with other products, but when its done right it doesn't bother me as much. This one has a variety of team colors and its all schemed and not just a plain boring white.

 photo IMG_5680_zpsaeb2fe8b.jpg

 photo IMG_5937_zpsea7adc81.jpg

 photo IMG_5958_zpsdb13cd93.jpg

INSERTS: The Knights Lance parallel is kinda cool. The normally silver corners are gold in this parallel and the Knights Lance is inserted at the bottom instead of the word Panini. Makes you think about the blog every time you find one. However, the Heroes of The Hall is my favorite insert with the blend of color and darkness. You get a good amount of inserts. Meaning, not overwhelming and just the right amount.
 photo IMG_5383_zps94bf5245.jpg
AUTOGRAPHS: The product states 2 autos per box...ours was shorted an auto and the one we got was a redemption. Ouch. So can't tell you an opinion on the design. Would assume they look like the base cards but with autos.

JERSEY/PATCH CARDS:N/A
OVERALL THOUGHTS: I like the base card design, the inserts look nice too and there isn't an overabundance and the price is within range of most collectors. The big bang could be here with a decent autograph checklist and with rookie cards (double rookie class so there is a lot to get), two autos, parallels and inserts it shouldn't take too much to get your value back. However, this break did not pull it off for us with a missing auto. But, as an update Panini Customer Service is helping get an auto to put in here to replace the missing one so we will post when that shows up. We will also fix the review numbers below as well.

RATINGS:  Bloggers Note: Our ratings are based specifically on the blaster, box or packs we opened and do not express what the overall product could bring. Ratings based on a 1-5. 1 Being the lowest and 5 being the highest.

Who's the KING of Box Breaks?

Everyday there seems to be at least two new box breakers trying to make their way into doing box breaks. The question I am sure everyone asks is, how do you decide to trust them or break with them? But this article isn't about that. This is about the ones you break with already and the ones you already trust. Maybe they are the new ones that just showed up or long time ones. But what we want to know is, Who is the KING of Box Breaks? Whose the favorite breaker out there out of the thousands who are out there. We the see the names all of the time and we know you all have your favorites. Lets hear them!

Now, there are no prizes being awarded here. The only contest this is, is for your breaker to have the bragging rights over other breakers as being the favorite or what we call the KING of breaks.

Below leave a comment of who your favorite breaker is, you can only vote for one. If you want you can say why they are your favorite. Whether they are trusted, have some serious mojo, or just fun people to talk to. We will leave this voting open for two weeks and update it daily to see who is in the lead for the KING of Box Breaks. After the two week vote is over (on the 15th or 16th), we will announce who the KING of breaks is.

Opening Day 2013 Baseball Thoughts and Predictions

I get so bored after football season. I don't watch any sport as much as I do football, but I do like to watch baseball unlike the filler sports between football and Opening Day of baseball. Sorry to the fans of basketball (the NBA hasn't been the same since Jordan left), NASCAR (I lost interest after they changed the points system), NHL (I loved late 90's hockey but haven't been able to watch since) and College Sports I just lost interest and but used to watch as well. To me, there is no other sport like the NFL, but MLB would be my second sport to watch.

Don't get me wrong, I used to love these other sports and especially MLB. But to be honest, steroids really ruined the sport for me. Its hard to tell who is real or who is fake when they are hitting 40+ home runs or pitching like crazy. It also hurt me loving to collect baseball cards (not being able to tell TRUE rookie cards played a bigger factor in this however). I used to really be into collecting them. You buy into certain players (Sosa, McGwire) and then you find out they cheated. Hurts your collection value and hurts your feelings towards the game. The game has changed since the steroid accusations like my feelings have towards the game. But I will still watch here and there just not as dedicated.

Now that I have done a little bit of ranting, I will get onto my predictions. So, if you didn't know by now I am a Pinstripe fan. Loved watching my Yanks and the rivalry between them and the Red Sox. The rivalry has died down some since the days of Tim Wakefield vs Aaron Boone since both teams have taken a fall but I still do turn on games occasionally if they are on TV (which you know the Yankees always are) and will sort cards while watching but I don't watch it like I used to. But my predictions can't start at a better place than starting with my Yankees. I think at best looking at their pitching staff they are the third or fourth best team in the East. I think injuries and age will also play a factor in this as well. If their pitching somehow comes together however, they could surprise a few teams and myself. They got rid of a lot of power in terms of home run hitters and that will hurt the offense some as they will have to find new ways to score runs so it will be interesting to see how Girardi fixes it.

 photo IMG_7695_zps5db028cb.jpg
I know a lot of people are sold on Toronto Blue Jays to win the East..but I am not so much. Yes, they did make a ton of moves and the ton of moves should add some more wins but for some reason I think the players they traded for will have down years. Sort of like the Eagles of football when they went out and added Super Stars to their lineups. I still think they are second or third best in the East however but thats mostly because of the Yankees and Red Sox fall.

  photo IMG_4232_zpsa0f0bd86.jpg

Every year there is a surprise team that makes the playoffs...here is mine:

 photo IMG_7124_zpsa737c261.jpg
Thats right..the Pirates. Now thats a bold prediction. But last year they showed some life and they got a decent team put together. The Central is not that strong and they are at least the second or third best team in it. This could finally be the year they make a run.

Now onto rest of my predictions:

AMERICAN LEAGUE                                         NATIONAL LEAGUE

East champ: Orioles
Central champ: Tigers
West champ: Angels
Wild cards: Rangers, Rays
Champion: Tigers
East champ: Nationals
Central champ: Reds
West champ: Dodgers
Wild cards: Braves, Pirates
Champion: Dodgers

And with the World Series between the Tigers and Dodgers I say the.....TIGERS will win this years World Series with strong pitching  and a powerful lineup.

Let me know your thoughts on baseball or my predictions in comments and tell me yours while you are there!
