Upper Deck Brings Excitement To The Double Rookie Class

I sometimes scour different blogs, Twitter, or Facebook to find things that stand out to me or makes me think about a topic that I may not have discussed yet or in awhile. I use this strategy to sometime break writers block. As I scoured, I found this article that was re-tweeted by Upper Deck from another blog on Twitter and it got me thinking that I haven't talked hockey cards in awhile:

So I thought what better time than the Stanley Cup playoffs and an upcoming hockey card season with twice the rookies.

So far Panini has been quite on this front on next years products so far with the double rookie class as I think their main focus at this point finishing up the rest of their 2012 card releases, but from what I have witnessed this week so far, Upper Deck on the other hand is really bringing the excitement. Other than them posting videos all over Twitter from themselves and others and re-tweeting other peoples blog posts or site posts,  I think I have also seen about 3 articles from them on their own personal blog of recently including this one just posted the other day:

If you are interested in the other two they are here after I searched for them:

The excitement is so high for Upper Deck for next year’s double rookie NHL class I keep waiting for an 80's type video with fireworks and smoke then out of the cloud of smoke appears Upper Deck’s marketing man Chris Carlin showing off a Double Rookie Class tattoo that looks like this:

So with all of this Upper Deck excitement got me to excited am I about the upcoming double rookie class season? I would say I am excited. Though, I must admit, not as excited as I was about the double NBA class since I collect basketball a little more than hockey. But this hobby is built on rookie cards and next season's hockey card releases gives us twice the chance to get them and I might be right there trying to score some.

When it comes to hockey, I don't  buy big time. Usually base brands like Score and Upper Deck is where I sit on a yearly basis. I like those products, especially Upper Deck since the Young Guns are always the hottest rookies out on the market, cause they are built around rookies and there is a ton of rookies in the products to find. Not to mention they are cost efficient usually running between $.99-$3.99 a pack.

Even though I am not into hockey as much as I once was, like I posted above, I do love rookie cards from any sport and if I can get them double time, I might buy into this excitement that Upper Deck is bringing for next year. And I would say that it is a great time to star collecting hockey cards if you haven't yet. And it to me sounds like from this excitement, that Upper Deck is a great place to start.

Some of the things in the articles above Upper Deck is promising about their 2013-2014 products is less redemptions and more autograph content in packs from rookies who skated this year. They also are planning on some cards with Team Canada in their Olympic year. Not to mention, they also point out their exclusive autograph deals with the Great One Wayne Gretzky and Bobby Orr. And then there is the list of rookies who will most likely find themselves on cardboard next year Yakupov (I know I am going to definitely look for this guy), Huberdeau,Seth Jones, Gallagher, Grigorenko, Granlund, Hamilton, MacKinnon, Galchenyu to name a few.

I think what Upper Deck is doing with their NHL cards is a good thing for the hobby. Why not bring the excitement early?  Why not cause a ruckus to catch our attention? Why not try to expand the hobby to get more hockey card collectors?  Why not get this blogger to finally write about hockey cards for the first time in awhile? Seems they have a lot going for their upcoming products and I would say out of all of the years that its probably a great time to start collecting hockey cards or start collecting them again. Less redemptions, more rookies, can't go wrong.

Maybe with a double rookie card class next year it will spark me to do more articles on hockey cards. We will have to see. But for now we have got to ask, how excited are you about next seasons Double Rookie Class? Are you Upper Deck excited?

Very Nice Panini Redemption Card Mail Day

This just came in the mail yesterday. Originally it was supposed to be a Archie Manning Inked auto card numbered to 10 from Panini Limited but instead I had it replaced like I do with all of my redemptions after 4 months unless its a card I really don't mind waiting for.  I contacted Panini CSM on Twitter, got a quick response, and within two days this beauty arrived. This card is numbered 2/10 and going straight to the PC. My first auto of Bradford.. I think its an equal trade off when I had it replaced. Just hoping that Bradford can finally pan out to be the first overall pick he was supposed to.

Let me know your thoughts on this card and if you think this was an equal exchange.

Rules for Monthly Contests

Here are the NEW rules for the monthly contest! We have dulled down the rules and the point system a little bit to make it more reasonable for us to keep track of. These contests start at the beginning of every month.

*Everyday we will post a game pick, player pick or sports related question. You will post a response by commenting on that days post. You will earn 1 point for the right answer. 0 for the wrong. As the new monthly contest is all about wins and losses.

*The new monthly contests will not have anymore double point, underdog or newbie days. Which also means newbies can join at any point in the contest (except the last 2 days) though we strongly recommend starting early since this contest is about having the most wins. However, you are never out of the contest because the final two days of the contest will still involve gambling your wins in an all about fight to the finish! An example of this is, if you have 10 wins and want to gamble 8 of them, you put that in comments with your answer for the day. You will earn that many if you are right, however, you will lose that many if you get it wrong. Even a person with 1 win could pull off the contest!

*The monthly contest will run for 25 Days. We thought about 20, but it would be a 10-11 Day gap in between contests so we wanted it a little longer.

*There is a deadline everyday for each entry. PLEASE make sure to make that deadline. If you are a minute late your entry WILL NOT COUNT for that day

*Each post will be posted early morning so it will give you plenty of time to reach the deadline. We try to get most deadlines for 10 pm e.t. but it doesn't always work that way.

*These contests are open to US Residents only! Sorry!

*There will be a prize lot consisting of Jersey cards, auto cards , rookie cards and inserts. The lots will be mainly Panini America cards. PLEASE make sure to tell them thank you for helping provide these prizes for this contest by providing us review boxes. It and even us would be non existent without them. Least we could do is say thanks.

*There will be 3 place prizes. However, we must stay at a 25 people a day entry to award them. If there are multiple days of under 25 contestants, the prize drops to just one.

*Second and Third place prizes will consist of inserts and rookie cards (around 4-6 cards)

*This is also a bloggers contest, meaning if we finish in the Top 3 we claim that spots prize meaning that prize will be moved onto the next month.

Now good luck! We hope for a great turnout and most of all that you have fun joining in.

Panini's Fathers Day Prizm Parallels

Panini has released another stunning cardboard reveal of its Father's Day promo and I gotta admit I knew this one was coming somehow into the promo.

With the HUGE popularity of Panini's Prizm products for all four sports, Panini has decided to add a new "diamond" like parallel to its Father's Day wrapper redemption promo.

This is sure to add an even bigger splash to the already popular promotion.

Panini America 2013 Father's Day Prizm (9)

Panini America 2013 Father's Day Prizm (22)

Panini America 2013 Father's Day Prizm (29)

Panini America 2013 Father's Day Prizm (32)

The set consists of baseball and hockey players and one stunning design if you ask this blogger. I am really looking forward to seeing what else Panini has in store for this Father's Day promo. I will continue to keep you all updated on this promo and new updates as they come along.

Leave your thoughts below on what you think of this new parallel and your thoughts on the Fathers Day promo!

Cardsmiths Mail Day-Bowman 2013- White Sox

Just came in. Cardsmiths has some of the fastest shipping I know coming from coast to coast in 2-3 days. Its incredible. And its always packaged up nice. And sorted.

I wanted a piece of the Bowman baseball 2013 action and got some in a case break. I ended up with the White Sox as my team choice. Now, I am a Yankees fan, but I just wanted some prospect cards to start with. Didn't fair as well as I had hoped, but still ended up with some nice Prospect PC pieces.

There were a ton of prospect and prospect chrome cards. Though only of 4 players, but we landed a stack of cards from the break. Hopefully these guys are the future of the White Sox.

Let me know your thoughts on the cards or on my mail day in general. I really dig the mini refractor and parallels we pulled. Going to look great in the PC.

Blog Changes

As you can see since our last monthly contest we held some changes have been made on here. We eliminated some of the discussion tabs due to lack of interest. But we have kept others. Other changes that have been made is Random Card Of The Day and Ken Griffey Jr. Cards Of The Week have left. Previews have left in terms of the word preview, we now post those as articles as you have recently seen in the Momentum Football post. We thought it would make for a better post to get more into it.

We have been trying to incorporate more Tips on Collecting as well. Giving you tips and showing you ways to collect.

So here is what we got for topics on here still:
  • PREVIEWS (done article style)
  • FANdom Card Of The Day
  • Tips On Collecting
  • Mail Days
  • Game Day Recipes
  • Opinion Stories
  • Our Monthly Contest Daily Posts
Not all of these are seen all of the time. Some are done randomly when we have the information to provide.

Some new ones we are considering are:
  • Design Police (giving thoughts on old and new cardboard designs)
  • NPN Addresses (we got this suggestion from a fan. Maybe if we get a address from some packs we will post the NPN address to mail them to)
  • Sports Opinons (discussing sports that are happening right now)
  • Panini America Card Of The Day (showcasing a Panini card we have whether its an insert, base card or autograph or memorabilia card)
Now the new ones might or might not happen. These are just thoughts we are having. As always we enjoy feedback from our fans on what you think and what you guys would like to see us do on here. What do you want to read more of or see more of? Let us know!
