Rookie Card Reveal For Panini's 2013 National Set

Another day, another Panini preview of their 2013 National Sports Collectors Convention cards. This time they did a sneak peek of the numbered Rookie Cards that are included for the show that begins on July 31st with some big name talent to brag about as well in the checklist. Not to mention, some well done designs on these rookie cards as well.

Panini America 2013 National Convention RC 2
Top QB pick in the draft. Not a bad have for any fan.

Panini America 2013 National Convention RC 9
Bright future ahead for Nail and for the Oilers.

Panini America 2013 National Convention RC 21
This guy has looked great so far in the Summer League. Grabbing and finding anything with his name on it for cardboard is a must. I like how Panini included some of this years top picks into the lineup.

Panini America 2013 National Convention RC 20
This pitching beast as well!

And of course this guy....
Panini America 2013 National Convention RC 18

Each of the base 2013 National Rookie Cards from the four sports will be numbered to 499. There will also be scarce Cracked Ice versions and Progressions cards limited to just five copies of four different colors.

Let us know your thoughts on these cards and if you're going to the 2013 National Convetion

FORGOTTEN: 2004 Fleer Authentix Football

Here is our NEW segment on Sport Card Collectors. This segment is not about the players per say, its more about the cards and design. We will focus our efforts on bringing you brands you may have forgotten about over time. Sports for these products will include basketball, football and baseball products.

A very unique concept with this product. Combining both a silver board appeal with a ticket stub look. The design looks great to me. The ticket stub is a very cool idea as they took all aspects of one and put it to the card including a game, date and time. I also like the team logo as the back-splash behind the player.

There were 2 numbered rookie cards per box along with 3 autographs. Great rookie year as well with Eli Manning, Big Ben, Roy Williams and more. It also contained coaches autos and some of the top coaches in the NFL could be found in it LIKE COWHER, BELICHECK, PARCELLS

Every box contained 24 packs per box with 5 cards per pack. The boxes are running between $90-$100 right now.

Prizm is looking good for 2013 Baseball

Panini brought excitement to collecting with Prizm in 2012 and now have announced the popular brand will be released in 2013. The product is slated to arrive on September 18 and has all of the "Prizm" parallels that drew us all to the product in its rookie release.

2013 Prizm Baseball Strasburg Base

I am totally digging the look of this years base cards. I like the added color. It was the only issue I had with last years products. Kudos to Panini for listening to its collectors and fans for improving upon it.

2013 Prizm Baseball Puig

Of course any baseball product that comes out rest of the year will have to have this guy in it to be successful Here is Panini's new rookie insert of him called Rookie Challengers. I really like the design here.

Other new inserts include Band of Brothers, Top Prospects, Fearless, Superstar Spotlight and the return of USA Baseball, with Prizm parallel versions of each.

2013 Prizm Baseball Strasburg Gold
Of course Prizm isn't Prizm without the parallels. They are some of the hottest cards on the market!
This year there is base Prizms, Gold Prizms, Black Finite Prizms and the introduction of hobby-only Orange Die-Cut Prizms and more are retail-exclusive Green Prizms, Walmart-exclusive Blue Prizms and Target-exclusive Red Prizms. There is plenty to chase here.

2013 Prizm Baseball Piazza

And then comes the autographs. Another nice piece that closes up a pretty solid product. Panini has also said this years checklist of base card players will be larger. That should make it even more interesting.

Let us know your thoughts on the early previews of Panini Prizm baseball 2013.

Review: Upper Deck Football 2013

We did a review earlier this year for a rack pack break of Upper Deck Football. This time we kick it into extra gear and review a hobby box.

This is a product I used to buy yearly when it was NFL licensed. You couldn't keep me away. Its a little bit of a tougher buy now with just an NCAA license. But there are a ton of die hard college football fans who eat up these types of products. And they should. Upper Deck has never changed. Just the licenses. Still quality in here.

What was my thoughts on this particular break on!

Box Break Down:
  • 20 Packs Per Box, 6 Cards Per Pack
  • (3) Autographs Per Box!
  • (2) Ultimate Collection RC's # to 599 Per Box!
  • Find College Mascot Manufactured Patch Cards!
  • Find Namath and Sanders College Football Heroes!
  • $90 Per Box

BASE CARDS:Upper Deck has always done a great job with their base cards. Little border, nice photography. I have always appreciated what they brought to a set. They display action photography like no other.

The vets in this set is small in only 50. Its the usual group of players Upper Deck is allowed to use in their sets since they have had the NCAA license. There are a ton of rookies however and short prints for both Hobby and Retail to find. We landed two Sp's in our hobby box.

One of the disappointing parts was the lack of big name rookies we found in this break. No Lacy, No Geno, best rookie we got was EJ Manuel. Rest were ones we hadn't heard much of. This may not be a bad thing as there are always those unknown rookies who rise, but a few more starts mixed in would have been nice.

Regular Cards-50
Star Rookies Cards-100
Star Rookies SP Cards -60
Star Rookies Rare Cards- 40

INSERTS: The inserts in this product brought me back a little. First off you get the following in a box:

2 Ultimate Collection Rookies
- Regular Card Parallel -none found
- Star Rookies Parallel- none found
- 1995 SP Football (1:6)
- 1995 SP Prospects (1:12)
- College Football Heroes - Joe Namath (1:10)
- College Football Heroes - Barry Sanders (1:10)

The Football Heroes and Sp football inserts brought me back to my early collecting days. They stuck to the same classic design which was great to see. The Ultimate Collection insert looks great as well. So in terms of design on the inserts here, good job.

AUTOGRAPHS: Three autographs in every box. Two base autos of people we never heard of and then a sweet /50 Lettermen auto of Landry Jones. I know and I have said this before that a lot of people don't care for the Lettermen autos and would rather have the other autographs (though Upper Deck photography with an autograph isn't a bad thing), not me. These Letterman look outstanding. I even like how the card is displayed. The player off to the left. The word rookie and Lettermen was done with the right text font and size. The player name bold at the bottom. Just awesome.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: Well, great photography. Memory quality inserts. One nice looking auto. Upper Deck football feels like its still missing something other than an NFL license. I wished I had gotten better rookie cards. And maybe another named auto. I liked what Upper Deck did just didn't feel like I got the complete value of the box here. Maybe other breaks are better. I haven't seen a lot of breaks of this product to judge it as a whole. It does have hit potential, you just have to have the right box I think.

Blaster Box Break of Topps Series 2 2013

I really liked this years Topps Series One 2013, so I thought two would be just as great. Series 1 had some incredible inserts and that really drew my attention. It had been a long time since Topps has put in quality inserts into their base products. These ones glimmered and shined and they carried over what they did in Series One to Series Two.

Once again, this is a product I only bust retail of. I don't feel like pouring out $70 for a one hit product. That's just my opinion. A blaster helps me get the rookies, inserts and even a fun commemorative patch relic all for $20. So for me, its the better buy.

This Harmon Killebrew may be THE BEST looking insert I have ever seen. Die cut refractor.Stained glass appeal. Just beautiful.

And I was pleasantly surprised to find Sandy Koufax as my patch hit of the box. Well designed card and finally a big time player. I usually hit the lower end (meaning lesser known players from the checklist) patch cards from the product. Series Two offered two different kind of commemorative patches.

Let me know your thoughts on my Blaster break and if you have busted any recently!

Panini Breaks Out Their Playbook for 2013

Panini broke out their Playbooks to design this years Playbook Football 2013. The product promises to have taken the best of the first two releases in 2011 and 2012 and also add some new fun collectibles as well.

New and exciting to this year is Flywire Booklets, Playbook Coaches Signature Booklets and Down and Dirty Booklets.

Also, this product will include four autograph or memorabilia cards in every four-card pack that breaks down to two booklet cards, at least one autographed version, one additional autograph and one other hit. And I would imagine the price would be similar to past years at $200 a box.

We have broken down three of our favorites so far in this years product:

2013 Playbook Football Peterson

Down & Dirty Booklets: These look SICK!! Finally, unwashed jerseys! Lets see all of the blood, dirt, grass stains and bring us closer to the game. To me this may be one of the greatest innovations in awhile. I have always wanted to see the hard work players put onto the field and now we can.
2013 Playbook Football RG III

Flywire Booklets: These are collars from players taken from players and are GAME WORN! But tough pulls at 1/1's. Incredible idea and design however.

2013 Playbook Football Geno
Rookie-Drawn Play Booklets: The 40 players who attended the 2013 NFLPA Rookie Premiere each sketched out and autographed their favorite plays that they hope to run in the NFL for them to make the biggest impact on the field.

I don't know if I can wait til October til this product hits the market. Just sick, sick stuff. So far, Panini is having an strong early start to their NFL card season.

Panini reveals 2013 National Convention Set

Later this month you can find some nice looking cards from Panini America with its wrapper-redemption program that will be held at Donald E. Stephens Convention Center which is playing host to this years National.

The National is something that I have never attended or probably ever will be able to, but I really enjoy looking at the card companies and the plans from each company. Panini has always gained my intrigue the most since they are so clever when it comes to planning events like this.

To kickoff, they showed off the base set and teased us mentioning the plentiful more details to come of memorabilia, autograph and other odds and ends that will be included in Panini's National Event.

So for now, we will showcase some of those cards and give you our thoughts on them.

Panini America 2013 National Base Set 1
Panini America 2013 National Base Set 7
Panini America 2013 National Base Set 18
I wished there was a little bit more color to these, other than that, design is not bad.

Panini America 2013 National Diamond Kings 1
I love the design on these! Amazing! Panini did an excellent job here with taking the classic Diamond Kings insert and adding a Panini design twist to it. I would love to see these inserted and numbered into future Panini baseball card products

Panini America 2013 National Team Colors 1
Team Colors does exactly what it states, it sticks with the teams colors for design. I like the throw in with classic players in the set.

Let us know your thoughts on Panini's National Convention Set and whether you will be attending or not.

Review: Sp Authentic Basketball 2012-2013

Upper Deck's most popular brand (least I think it is) packs a punch every year and has collectors running out to get it. Though it may not be the same product that came out a few years ago when Upper Deck had an NBA license for it, the product still looks great and can still produce those one of a kind hits.

Box Break Down:
  • 24 Packs Per Box, 5 Cards Per Pack
  • 3 Autographs or Memorabilia Cards Per Box!
  • Find Auto's from Jordan, LeBron, Magic, Bird!
  • Look for rare Final Floor Signature Cards
  • $110 a Box

BASE CARDS: Sp Authentic stays to its core, white/grayish background base card with player the main focus. I am usually not one for non action photos for products, but this is Sp Authentic, this is an exception. The thing I don't like about the base card is the players name on top of the head. I would have either just left the last name the way it is or have put the first name on top of it. And its very small. Other than that, glad Sp Authentic stays with its success with the base cards.

The subset 1:4 odds of pulling is the Flashback Rookie FX. I like the design because it reminds me of past ones, but what I don't like is the non numbering on them. I think the chase would be more fun if they were numbered like classic Sp Authentic releases.

You do however, get two complete base sets in a box. At least we did. Only 4 triples.

INSERTS: If you haven't tried this product, the Canvas cards have got to be some of the coolest inserts out on the market. However, they are the only ones in this product. Thats a tough sell for me. I wished they did what they did last year and include the hologram inserts. They include the Rookie FX Flashback and there are canvas parallels but doesn't seem like enough to me.

The canvas card above is a gold parallel.

AUTOGRAPHS: There seems to be a color scheme in this product that matches the base cards. I do like the Sign Of The Times done with a darkened background and a colorful version of the player coming out at you. Pulled a no namer for a base auto.

However this product has a great autograph checklist as you can look for Autographs of Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Bill Russell, Julius Irving, Allen Iverson, Reggie Miller, Karl Malone, Grant Hill, or Chris Paul!
JERSEY/PATCH CARDS: You can land a Jordan Brand Classic Jersey card or pull a By The Letter Signature like we did. I don't care what people say about these, I really like the manufactured letter patch autos. To me, this card was the most exciting hit of the box and stood out in terms of color and design above the rest.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: Sp Authentic is worth a try. Hopefully your box turns out the big auto hits with three per box its worth a shot. Hopefully you get that big hit or name auto. There are some nooks that I hope UD improves on next year like adding more inserts and maybe numbering to the subsets. Other than that, another solid Upper Deck Sp Authentic product.

FORGOTTEN: 1998 Pacific Revolution Football

Here is our NEW segment on Sport Card Collectors. This segment is not about the players per say, its more about the cards and design. We will focus our efforts on bringing you brands you may have forgotten about over time. Sports for these products will include basketball, football and baseball products.

One of my favorite designed base cards of all time and a product that may be forgotten about til you are researching that specific year looking for key rookie cards of Peyton Manning, Ahman Green, Hines Ward, Brian Griese, and Fred Taylor.

The product contained 24 packs per box and now can run up to $200 per hobby box. There were many parallels and unique inserts as well.

Let us know if this product was Forgotten by you in comments and whether you have tried it in the past.

Review: Press Pass Parks and Recreation 2013

When Press Pass announced this release...everyone jumped all over it! I knew I had to get my hands onto some and I did. Let us know your thoughts on this product as well.

Box Break Down:
  • 24 packs per box, 5 cards per pack
  • 2 autographs per box
  • 1 relic
  • 90 card base set
  • 4 sub-sets
  • Under $65 a box!

BASE CARDS:Parks and Recreation carries a 90 Card Base Set featuring seasons 1-4 along with subsets. I think Press Pass did an excellent job here capturing those favorite moments from the Emmy award winning shows first 4 seasons.

INSERTS: One silver parallel in every pack is the only insert available. I would have liked to seen maybe a couple more inserts. Maybe a rainbow parallel thats numbered and maybe another insert based around Ron Swanson's character. We know how much everyone loves him.

AUTOGRAPHS: ON CARD! All of the autographs are on card in this product making for a unique experience. That means they touched every card! Meaning its a two-fer type of pull. Well done design as well capturing each character from the show.

Some big signers for the product include:

Amy Poehler (Leslie Knope)
Rob Lowe (Chris Traeger)
Nick Offerman (Ron Swanson)
Aziz Ansari (Tom Haverford)
Aubrey Plaza (April Ludgate)
Jim O'Heir (Jerry Gergich)
Retta (Donna Meagle)
Mo Collins (Joan Callamezzo)
Jay Jackson (Perd Hapley)
Megan Mullally (Tammy Swanson)
Paul Rudd (Bobby Newport)
Fred Armisen (Raul)
Parker Posey (Lindsay Carlisle Shay)

So theres plenty to chase.
JERSEY/PATCH CARDS: One of the things I miss with sport cards is seeing the actual item the swatches were taken from. Not only did Press Pass show the actual item, they tell you the character, which season and which episode the piece is from. Well done (I am clapping my hands as I try to type this).
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Once again, another great product from Press Pass. They do such a great job with their NASCAR and non sport products. This is another prime example. I strongly recommend this product especially if you are a fan of the show.

For around $65 you get 3 hits, a ton of parallels, great autograph checklist and non stop laughs as you remember the great moments and play the scenes out in your mind.

RATINGS:  Bloggers Note: Our ratings are based specifically on the blaster, box or packs we opened and do not express what the overall product could bring. Ratings based on a 1-5. 1 Being the lowest and 5 being the highest.
                Packaging: 5
                Base Design: 4
                Insert Design: 3
                Memorablila/Autographs: 5
Blaster, Hobby Box, or Pack Value: 5

Panini's Fathers Day 12 Pack Break 2013-6 Hits!

Well, here are my results from 12 2013 Panini Father's Day packs. And I must say I am overly impressed. Last year I broke about the same amount and came home empty handed. This year...well...the odds favored me as I hit something 1 in every 2 packs!!!

Enough with me are my amazing results!

I really enjoyed the base cards from the product. Brought me back a few years to when I first started collecting with the inclusions of Studio and Pinnacle. The other base design was well done as well.

I was stunned to say the least when I found a Ice of Anthony Davis to end all of my breaks. The Pro Bowl cards are pieces of Pylon. The Bernards are unique with The Knights Lance faded in the back drop. The Marshall Faulk I believe is a piece of shoe or glove. All of these are headed straight for the PC.

Once again, Panini did a great job with this years Father's Day promo. I look forward to 2014's.

Let me know your thoughts on my Father's Day hits and how you did with yours if you got to bust some.

Memorabilia Lane Mail Day: Kurt Angle Autograph

This is a much late shout out and thank you, but finally getting to this post. I Received this nice piece in from Memorabilia Lane as a prize winning a couple of weeks ago. They have a variety of autographed items from sports, personalities and actors. You can find them on Twitter which is where I found them and won this from.

It came mailed very protected so it wouldn't bend and also came with a certificate of authenticity.

Let me know your thoughts on this mail day and if you have ever received anything from them.
