Hobby Topic

Another post in our new series Hobby Topics. This is not so much a post for us to comment about or give our opinions on, this is your chance to let your voice be heard on a variety of topics in the hobby. We are leaving the floor open to you! So comment away! But please no language and keep your answer clean as we do have a younger following as well.

Today's Topic will be about TTM (through the mail autographs)

Do you do through the mail autographs? What's the best one you have ever gotten? What's your usual return time?

Let's hear your thoughts!

  1. I just recently sent some items out for the first time in years. I received a quick response from Wade Boggs. He responded in about 16 days. We'll see how long it takes to hear back from the others.

  4. Best experience back when Dan Fouts was still doing Monday Night Football (2000) maybe? I collect Pro Football HOF autographs and I get the Pro Football HOF Metallic cards signed. They are gray aluminum with black images, (see eBay) they are all over but VERY seldom do you ever see any signed. I have 173 authentically signed. I sent him his card and it took about 6 or 7 months but it was returned perfectly signed and he also included a personalized Goal Line Art Proof card (5/50). He also sent a note apologizing for the delay and also signed the note! Fantastic experience from a great guy!

  5. Worst TTM experience, John Madden. I live by the HOF and go a couple times a year. In 2006 when he was inducted in to the Pro Football HOF he did not participate in the 2006 Class signing. I usually get the Induction/Game Day prodgram signed. I had all of the autographs from the class of 2006 except for him because of the no show at the autograph session.

I mailed a note and asked for permission to send the program his HOF Metallic card and a Goal Line Art card. I also offered to donate to his favorite charity or pay cash for the autographs. About 10 days latter I received a letter informing me that I could send my items and that John would sign them at no charge.

I received my items back, including the program that had been previously signed by the other members of the class of 2006. Everything was signed beautifully. I then sent the Goal Line Art card and the HOF Metallic card to JSA for authenication and slabbing. They were returned marked "not authentic" secretarial signed. I send a lot of items to JSA for authenication so I made a phone call and I was told that John doesn't sign ANYTHING through the mail and HATES signing period. You might get lucky and get him to sign at a live event but not likely.

Why would anyone take the time to answer my mail and write back and tell me to send my items when there was no intention of anything being signed????? Now I have 2006 Program signed by the entire class and a fake John Madden signature and two cards that were thrown in the trash. What a jerk, or whoever answered the mail and told me to go ahead and send my items. Not to mention I'm out $$ for sending the items to JSA to be authenicated!
