Hobby Topic

Another post in our new series Hobby Topics. This is not so much a post for us to comment about or give our opinions on, this is your chance to let your voice be heard on a variety of topics in the hobby. We are leaving the floor open to you! So comment away! But please no language and keep your answer clean as we do have a younger following as well.

Today's Topic will be about Sticker Autographs

A lot of complaints about autographs today is the fact they are done on stickers so it doesn't give you that closeness to the athlete as an on-card one would. What are your thoughts on this? Does it matter to you? Do only only collect one or the other?

Let's hear your thoughts!

What's In The Mail Box?

Rueben Randle could be the next best thing in a Giants uniform. He has shown flashes of brilliance and incredible focus and hands. And that's why I have started to slowly stockpile him. This is one of many I will post. With the possible outing of WR Hakeem Nicks, Randle in his third year could be huge next season.

Also got this card at a very reasonable $1.47. I really like the design and layout of it.

Let me know your thoughts on this mail day.

Derek Jeter's Final Season (small card gallery)

As a Yankee fan I knew it had to come at some point, but I really hoped there would be a youth potion made by now so Derek Jeter could play as a Yankee forever.

Since the youth potion was never made, Derek Jeter did as I expected him to do this season or next, announced his retirement on Wednesday for the conclusion of the 2014 season.

I am still in shock that this will be the final season I will get to watch one of my favorites don the number 2 in pinstripes. I will say it outright, he will be missed for sure. He was a great example on and off the field and someone many of the new short stops in the league look up to as an example. He will certainly be a first ballot Hall Of Famer when eligible. That's a no brainier.

With all of that being said, It has been a fun ride watching him along the way with 5 World Series rings, 13 All Star game appearances, and many memorable plays including "the flip" against the A's and the dive into the stands against the rival Red Sox.

So I thought in dedication of his announcement of his final season in 2014, I would show off the new 2014 Jeters I have so far this season. It's not much, but with only one release so far, it's a good start.

I look forward to adding to these as the season goes on. Maybe even show more off as well as I get them. My favorite 2014 addition so far is the Super Veteran card. I like the design and the color fade from his past picture to his present.

Whether you are a Yankee fan or not, you have got to appreciate everything Derek Jeter brought to baseball. I would love to hear your favorite moment or two as there are many to choose from. I know mine was "the flip".

I wish Derek great health and good luck on this season and hopefully he will be bringing home World Series ring #6 to finish up an amazing career.

Retail Break 'Em: 2013 Topps Football Rack Pack

For Christmas, I found a rack pack of Topps Football 2013 in my stocking. Not a bad stocking gift I must say. I mostly like busting these for the rookie cards and the possible chance at a hit. Nothing too exciting here. But did add a couple more Giants cards to the PC and some more rookies.

Each rack pack comes packed with base cards with a sprinkling of inserts and rookies for $4.99. The top half of the rack pack is known, by my experience anyways, to have the better cards.

Now onto how I did:

Can't go wrong with these three rookies. Someday Barkley I believe will be given a chance somewhere. Moore is an up and coming Giants defensive end who could have a huge 2014 season and Williams has proven himself already in Dallas.

Like that Topps went back to putting 1,000 and 3,000 yard clubs into their flagship product

I really like the mini's despite their value not being very much

Overall, nothing overly exciting. But, for the price you pretty much get a decent break with a shot at some hits.

As always your thoughts and comments are welcomed. Also would like to know if you have busted any of these and how you fared.
