#SCCGivesBack

A few days ago, I leaked what would be the best giveaway ever leading you to wonder what the details of this giveaway may be. The key word in this is giveaway. This is not a contest. This is not something you have to enter. This is as the title states #SCCGivesBack and you could reap the benefits!

With Upper Deck running a #UDRAK (Upper Deck's Random Acts Of Kindness) promo I thought it would be fun to run something similar. But, instead of just giving back to collectors who help other collectors, I wanted to give back to the readers of this blog as well. So to qualify for a random mail day, you can do one of many things. One, you can comment on this blog's posts daily, once in awhile, etc. Two, you can do something else great for another collector. Three, you can nominate another deserving collector. Four, you can share this blog, become a member, LIKE us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, RT our posts, SHARE them on Facebook and so on. Five, do the same exact things as Steps One and Four, but do it on our brother blog THAT 90'S SPORT CARD BLOG that I am still trying to build, the only difference is that there is not That 90's Sport Card Blog Facebook page. Six, if you have kids or a friends kids who collect, you can nominate them as well because they are the future of the hobby. I will be watching for any or all of these steps :)

Overall, I am just looking to give back to the blog's biggest fans and to collectors who like to give back to other collectors. The collecting community should be as one and should be helping one another out and not pushing each other away. You can't grow a hobby that way. I don't know about you, but I want this hobby to continue on.

Now onto what a #SCCGivesBack prize will be. It will be about a 5 card lot range from base cards, inserts, rookies, jersey card, autographs of your favorite teams, players, and so on. It all depends on what I have in stock at the time.  This will be mailed to you randomly for FREE! I will try to mail one out every few weeks and I hope that you post this prize pack on Twitter or on the Facebook page using the hash tag #SCCGivesBack.

You are probably now asking how will I mail these to you, well, this is the next step and it's an easy one. If you are reading this and are a U.S. Resident (sorry it's too expensive to ship elsewhere) I need the following info emailed to me at sportcardcollectors@hotmail.com with the subject line of #SCCGivesBack that way I can separate you from spam.
  • Your name and address
  • Your Twitter name if you have one
  • Your favorite teams and players
  • If you are nominating another collector, please explain why and provide their address
  • If you are nominating your child or someone else child, please explain why and provide their address with the kids name (who doesn't like a mail day as a child). Please provide their favorite team and players.
Most of all, I hope all of you enjoy this promotion and have fun with it because you just never know what may arrive at your mail box.

Sport Card Collectors 2014 Top 10 Mock Draft+Hobby Implications

Here is my 2014 Top 10 picks Mock Draft. I am no Mike Mayock or Todd Mcshay but I feel really good about this years mock draft than my past two. One of the things I did differently this year is put in a shocking trade, which I am sure many of you may laugh at, but I wouldn't be the bit surprised.

Read on:

1. Houston Texans             Jadeveon Clowney    DE

This is an obvious pick to me. One of the best players in this years draft and if Houston pairs him alongside JJ Swatt what a duo on defense. QB's will run and hide! I do think they pass on QB Manziel as they will wait til the second round or move back up to the first to grab a guy like Teddy Bridgewater who I still think is the top QB in this draft.

Hobby Implications: Being a top defensive pick, you can look at DROY award to possibly drive his cards.

2.  Detroit Lions (from St. Louis Rams)        Sammy Watkins     WR

That's right! Here it is! The shocking trade. The Rams who have two picks in the top thirteen will decide to trade this pick to Detroit who is absolutely in love with Watkins and would love to get their hands onto him to pair with Megatron. NOTE: If this doesn't happen, watch for Detroit still to try and move up to get him.

Hobby Implications: Would take pressure off from Megatron and could be an early favorite for OROY award. Should be one of the more valuable rookies in this draft.

3. Jacksonville Jaguars           Khalil Mack     OLB/DE
Jacksonville needing any kind of play-makers, take the second best (or could easily be argued as the top guy) in this draft to help build up their defense.

Hobby Implications: Another candidate for DROY.  I don't think his cards will be quite as sought after as Clowneys due to the fact he is in Jacksonville, but big plays early on next season could help.

4. Cleveland Browns            Johnny Manziel   QB

Cleveland needs a QB and has for years and Manziel comes in as a talented hyped up QB. Combine the two and Manziel may bring some excitement back to Cleveland.

Hobby Implications: He is already the most popular and should be throughout the card collecting season. However, I question him still and all of the hype that surrounds and could easily see him being a bust much like Tim Tebow was. Now, don't get me wrong, I am not comparing the two at all. Tebow had questions about his arm coming into the draft and Manziel is a much better QB but the hype is the same. The fact that he is in Cleveland could hurt his hobby stock a little as well as the lack of talent around him could hurt his rookie season as well.

5. Oakland Raiders          Greg Robinson   OT
You would think QB here, but with their acquisition of Schaub I think they will find a way to protect him.

Hobby Implications: NONE. It's an offensive lineman

6. Atlanta Falcons           Jake Matthews    OT
Atlanta has a weak offensive line and could use help. Matthews would help them hear protect Matt Ryan and possibly help them get their running game going again.

Hobby Implications: NONE. It's an offensive lineman
7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers        Mike Evans   WR

Tampa Bay has a new coach and a new QB. Why not bring another weapon in for Josh McCown to throw to alongside Vincent Jackson. A QB project could be another option here.

Hobby Implications: Some. If teams start doubling up on Vincent Jackson, Davis has big play ability and could stretch the field. However, this also depends on how well McCown plays as well.

8. Minnesota Vikings       Blake Bortles   QB

Minnesota has a talented team but the key position on the field lacks, QB. This is a last chance type of year for QB Christian Ponder who is in the final year of his contract. If he doesn't show any life in the preseason, he will be cut. That's where Bortles comes into play. Most call Bortles the best all around QB in the draft.

Hobby Implications: A QB always is a hobby go to and the fact that he has some talent around him in Minnesota could put him in the running for OROY if Ponder falls apart.

9. Buffalo Bills    Eric Ebron TE
Eric Ebron is a much needed weapon for second year QB EJ Manuel. Ebron is being compared to Vernon Davis and we know how much of a weapon he is. This is also a lot of pressure to be under for Ebron as must prove himself and live up to expectations which may not be easy in Buffalo with a young QB.

Hobby Implications: A little. He does play in Buffalo which isn't really a hobby brightspot and also has a young QB who needs work still throwing to him. However, if lives up to the hype, you never know.

10. St. Louis Rams (from Washington Redskins and Detroit Lions)   Taylor Lewan OT
With tons of injuries to QB Sam Bradford since he got drafted, why not try to protect him better? Another option here for the Rams after moving down could be a QB. Maybe Derek Carr.

Hobby Implications: NONE. It's an offensive lineman

As for who I think my team the Giants will draft, I would love to see Davis or Ebron fall into their grasps, but I believe they go LB or OL here. As always, the Giants take the best available player.

This sums up my mock draft. I always look forward to this time of year as it begins a new year of football card collecting and this years class has some boom and it's deeply talented.

Baseball Card Discussion

NEW CHANGES on Sport Card Collectors

Within the last month or so, I had contemplated semi-retiring Sport Card Collectors. I was running out of fresh ideas and things to keep you guys interested in coming back. One of the bigger draws on the blog are reviews, retail and hobby pack and box breakdowns. But, lack of funds for purchases and reviews from companies led to recent drop-offs in those. Without those as well, that takes away from NPN Of The Week so there goes four topics out the door.

Then some of the newer ideas were not quite working out when they were implemented in January, comments were way down on everything, and views as well and it seemed that Sport Card Collectors was falling apart. So than began my declined interest in blogging on here, but luckily I had already three weeks worth of posts done ahead of time so it would give me time to think before making any rash decisions.  In the meantime, I went back to my collecting roots and started up That 90's Sport Card Blog and was having a blast sharing some of my favorite cards from the 90's while also giving you my thoughts on collecting in that era. It seemed my shift of focus was turning to that blog and the balance of power as well.

While I was working on that blog, I made an announcement on Twitter, Facebook and this blog that it may be semi-retiring and you guys completely went off. I had never seen so much support come from a collecting community. Many of you kept saying how much this blog has helped you and especially for newbies or collectors who were returning. Some of you said you come daily but just don't always comment. All of the positive feedback made me smile and put that drive back into me. It was one of those moments in a sports movie when all seems impossible, than one bright shining moment happened and I picked up my adrenaline and wanted to pull off the comeback. So here it is. My comeback.

With all of this being said, I am happy to say that Sport Card Collectors will not be going anywhere. Neither will That 90's Sport Card Blog. I sat down for the past three weeks working out some ideas and think that I have things down. The one thing that has always been constant on this blog over the two years, is YOU guys enjoying the fact that I leave this blog open for you with fun topics like Hobby Topic and Caption This where you control what is posted. So I thought, why not open the floodgates a little more and let you guys a little further in.

Here are some of the new topics you will see being incorporated:

Baseball Card Discussion (will post up a card from a new product leaving you to give your opinion on that new product. This new topic is already being implemented)
Basketball Card Discussion (will post up a card from a new product leaving you to give your opinion on that new product. This new topic is already being implemented)
Football Card Discussion (will post up a card from a new product leaving you to give your opinion on that new product. This new topic is already being implemented)
Hockey Card Discussion (will post up a card from a new product leaving you to give your opinion on that new product. This new topic is already being implemented)
Featured Collector's PC: Let's see those PC's! I will be bringing this to life soon.

A couple more newer topics will be:

Leaf Card Of The Week (replacing NPN Of The Week starting this Sunday)
Sage Card Of The Week (replacing Collecting Basics and Poll Friday)
Press Pass Card Of The Week (coming soon!)
That 90's Sport Card Blog Post Of The Day (already implemented)

I must also note that the Card Of The Weeks will no longer have card #'s and the other info within the post.

I will still be doing Retail Break 'Em, Hobby Break 'Em, and reviews when they are available and they will be mixed in the rotation.

Let me know your thoughts on these new ideas and the saving of Sport Card Collectors. As always, thank you for all of the support! I truly have the best fans!
