That 90's Sport Card Blog Post Of The Day: 90's Rip Party: 1997-1998 Topps Series 1 Basketball 1 Hobby Pack Break

I have been having a blast going back in time breaking these 90's products. Today's is one of my more favorite Topps flagship designs from 97-98 Topps. Check out the break along with my sweet looking insert and let me know your thoughts!

You can find this break here:

HOBBY TOPIC

Another post in our new series Hobby Topics. This is not so much a post for us to comment about or give our opinions on, this is your chance to let your voice be heard on a variety of topics in the hobby. We are leaving the floor open to you! So comment away! But please no language and keep your answer clean as we do have a younger following as well.

Today's Topic: Where do YOU trade your cards?

With LCS' rare to find and many untrustworthy traders abound how and where do you trade for stuff you need?

Let's hear your thoughts!

90's Rip Party: 1997-1998 Topps Series 1 Basketball 1 Hobby Pack Break

Another riveting post from everyone's favorite topic, 90's Rip Party. Today, I felt like breaking something from the late 90's because of their great looking inserts. So I broke a pack of 1997-1998 Topps Basketball hoping to not only find one of those inserts, but to maybe even land a Tim Duncan rookie.

Every pack of Topps 1997-1998 came with 11 cards. The base card design was different than most Topps products and I liked it. The cards had very little border which worked. The cards themselves were un-glossed. The players though, were. So it made for a fun texture. There were some great angle photography done on these as you can tell below on a couple of the cards.

Now onto the break.

Even though I didn't hit any rookies, I brought myself what I like to call THE BOOM with a Season's Best insert that is 1:16 packs. Beautiful card as well!
Overall, a fun break. I really like the base cards and they may be the best ones Topps has ever done for their flagship product. I obviously enjoyed the insert pull as well. You just gotta love the excitement that 90's collecting can bring!

That 90's Sport Card Blog Post Of The Day: 90's Rip Party: 1994 Score Baseball Series 2 1 Hobby Pack Break

Breaking wax from the 90's again. This time it's a pack of '94 Score Baseball Series 2. I was very excited to for the insert I pulled in this. I would rather pull something like that over a jersey card any day. The only way you can view what I pulled is to follow the link here:
http://sportcardblog90.blogspot.com/2014/05/90s-rip-party-1994-score-baseball.html

Sage Card Of The Week: 2013 Sage Hit Spotlight Manti Teo

90's Rip Party: 1994 Score Baseball Series 2 1 Hobby Pack Break

In today's 90's Rip Party, we dive back into 1994 and break a hobby pack of Score Series 2 baseball.

In every pack, you get 14 cards with one Gold Rush foil card per pack. In this pack anyways, half of it was rookie cards which I am a fan of as a rookie collector. The design sticks with the likes of most Score designs. A border with some form of color added to a part of the card. The photography on these are decent, but cards lack more of the action and focuses on the particular player.  Overall, not bad.

Now onto the break:

Gerald Williams for the Yankees PC

I know these are one-per-pack, but honestly, I still get excited about seeing one of these. They are really cool parallels.

Actually got a decent pull of a great player, Gold Stars fell 1:18 packs.
Overall, I am very happy with this break. Great pull on the Ripken, I really like the Gold Rush parallel and added a couple of Yankees to my PC.

What's In The Mail Box?

Today's edition of What's In The Mail provides the biggest punch of them all! Sadly you will not see all of this mail day in this post. You will need to stay tuned to That 90's Sport Card Blog to see the rest including possibly the best card in my collection!

I don't normally do trades, but when I came across a Frank Thomas auto I had won from a contest, on a whim I felt like doing a trade and helping another collector with their PC. I knew a very trusted trader and collector who would have loved to add that card to their collection, so I contacted Jonathan Hoffman about the card. Jonathan and I had made a small trade before but that trade was nothing compared to what this one was about to become!

At first the trade was a Frank Thomas auto for THE UNNAMED CARD AT THIS POINT. Than I began to research more Thomas' I had then Pirate cards and all of a sudden we had blown up one HUGE trade. While I don't have a PC, I knew he had a couple so I helped fill some of his needs while I picked out stuff I wanted, but couldn't afford at the time.

In the end, we made one awesome trade and were able to really help each other out. I strongly recommend trading with Jonathan Hoffman and when the mood strikes me to trade again, I am heading his way!

Now onto my goods:

I wanted some more 2014 rookie card action so I asked for one of these (results in a future post)

Than I have been dying to get my hands onto a true rookie card of Jose Abreu, I mean who hasn't, So I asked for one of these: (results coming in the future)

I have always wanted a minor league card of my main man Ken Griffey Jr, here it is going where my other Jr's are:

And I wanted some fun stuff to post on That 90's Sport Card Blog which includes possibly the best card in my collection. That card is pictured here but is bottom side up on top of the Topps box. And no it's not that Topps card, it's under it. The rest of the cards you see pictured here will be displayed and boxes and packs broken down on That 90's Sport Card Blog. So if something catches your fancy under here, you will want to go check out that blog in the next week or so.

This was such a great trade and mail day. I am glad to know someone who is a trusted and a very good trader. I just wanna say thanks again to Jonathan Hoffman on this incredible mail day and once again, if you have any Pittsburgh Pirates or Frank Thomas cards, send them to that guy!

That 90's Sport Card Blog Post Of The Day: 90's Rip Party: 1992-1993 Hoops Basketball 1 Pack Break

Like Hoops basketball? Well check out today's 90's Sport Card Blog post as I go back to 1992-1993 and do a one pack break!

You can find that break here on this link:
http://sportcardblog90.blogspot.com/2014/05/90s-rip-party-1992-1993-hoops.html

Upper Deck Card Of The Week: 2002 Upper Deck Ovation Rodrigo Rosario

90's Rip Party: 1992-1993 Hoops Basketball 1 Pack Break

It felt like time for a NEW edition of 90's Rip Party. This time I wanted to shoot some HOOPS and broke 1 pack of 1992-1993 Hoops Basketball.

1992-1993 Hoops basketball Series 1 came with 12 cards per pack. The design was a pretty clean one. Thin white border around the card with a player name and team in a thin rectangle on the left hand side. There is a thin bar with player position just above the bottom border of the card. The color scheme of the players name and position matched the team they played on. I am not usually a fan of any borders on cards, but Hoops did a good job with balancing out action shots and card layout. This was also the fun years of collecting Hoops back when coaches were included into base sets.

Now onto the break:

Great group of players right here including Phil Jackson and Magic Johnson

Nice looking subsets as well with the NBA All Star ones:
Overall, a good break. I got three stars in Barkley, Phil Jackson and Magic. However, the better 1992-1993 Hoops series to buy is two with the chance at getting a Shaq rookie card and others.

Baseball Discussion

It's never too early to discuss the MVP race, who is the front runner for AL and NL MVP and why?

Hockey Discussion

With the NY Rangers leading the Montreal Canadians 2 games to 0, can the Canadians without Price and having to go to NY comeback to win this series?

Football Discussion

In your opinion, which NFL team had the best draft and why?

Basketball Discussion

With the Miami Heat pulling out a win last night and tying the series up at 1 game a piece, do you think the Heat will win this series?

That 90's Sport Card Blog Post Of The Day: 90's Rip Party: 1996 Classic Basketball Rookies 1 Pack Break

Well, I was still in a basketball 90's ripping mood so I looked around and found a pack of 1996 Classic Basketball Rookies and with a chance at a rookie auto per box I said, hey, why not?

So here is the break..did I pull that auto in this one pack? What do these cards look like? Well, only one way to tell. Follow this link!

http://sportcardblog90.blogspot.com/2014/05/90s-rip-party-1996-classic-basketball.html

Panini Card Of The Week: 2013 Panini Contenders Draft Class Ryan Nassib

90's Rip Party: 1996 Classic Basketball Rookies 1 Pack Break

I am thinking rookies in this edition of 90's Rip Party and broke a product with the name rookies right in the title, 1996 Classic Basketball Rookies.

This product was not an NBA licensed one but was NCAA licensed. It had some great photography with nice clean open card design with only players name at the bottom. You get 10 cards per pack and a chance at one rookie auto per box. This pack wasn't the lucky one with the autograph and actually didn't even have the big players in it either. But, I still had a good time wondering what was within.

Now onto the break:

The Shaq was a different kind of add in. The picture is of his Hallmark figurine hence the name of the insert. But that is what the 90's was all about, uniqueness.

Each pack comes with this silver parallel card:
Overall, nothing too big here. But, once again, that didn't matter to me. The photography looks outstanding and these are all going to the rookie PC.

What's In The Mail Box?

Well, I know I said I wouldn't be doing anymore of these, but I decided they are fun. Who wouldn't want to see what's in someone's mail box? Especially when it involves cards. I must say though before continuing on with this post, that even though I brought this back, there may not be many of them. I haven't seen much action in the mail box recently. Anyways, onto this very exciting mail day!

This mail day is broken down into two separate ones, one is from an awesome Sport Card Collectors fan and the other is from a Twitter contest I won.

First I am going to show off the mail day from Sport Card Collector's fan and avid Facebook poster, Grady Malachowski. Grady, has posted a good amount of breaks he has had luck with on my Facebook wall on Sport Card Collectors (if you haven't LIKED the page yet ask yourself why) and a few of those breaks had Giants cards within.

Knowing that I am a Giants fan, Grady posted on my wall that he had a couple of Giants jersey cards to mail me and asked for my address. Within a couple of days these two great cards arrived:

I thought this was an awesome mail day and had to post about it. Thank you Grady for these sweet cards they are heading straight to the PC! People like Grady are great for this hobby and I am not saying that because of my mail day. He has also posted in the past about being a mail man and #PayingItForward by giving commons out to kids on his mail route. If only we all did that.

Once again Grady, thank you!

Now onto the second part of this mail day, I recently won a Twitter RT contest from westTOcardshow.com, which is a HUGE card show that is hosted on a weekly basis in Toronto and also gives away WAYNE GRETZKY ROOKIE CARDS weekly at the show like they were Halloween candy, and got myself my first TRUE rookie card of star Sidney Crosby from BeeHive 2005-2006:

Though, he is no Wayne Gretzky, and yes they gave those away and will give more away on Twitter in which I REALLY tried to WIN ONE, honestly who wouldn't, it is still a great piece for my rookie card collection.

So I just wanted to say thank you to westTOcardshow.com for their generosity to not only me but to all collectors. I mean, who in their right minds gives away Gretzky rookie cards like that?!

As always, thoughts on these mail days are always welcomed!

That 90's Sport Card Blog Post Of The Day: 90's Rip Party:1991-1992 Fleer Basketball 1 Pack

Today and for the next few days on That 90's Sport Card Blog, I will be breaking random 90's packs. These will range from football, basketball and to baseball. Keep an eye out as some 90's inserts were found. In today's, I broke 1 pack of 1991-1992 Fleer Basketball. There was an MJ sighting.

You can check out this break right here:
http://sportcardblog90.blogspot.com/2014/05/90s-rip-party-1991-1992-fleer.html

Topps Card Of The Week: 2012 Topps Prime Robert Griffin III

90's Rip Party: 1991-1992 Fleer Basketball 1 Pack

Well, in this edition of 90's Rip Party, I dug way back to 1991 to break some basketball cards. The pack of choice for this break, 1991-1992 Fleer basketball.

I have always been a  fan of Fleer and the great products they put out on the market in the 90's. They had a taste for uniqueness and design coming up with great inserts and chase cards such as Pro Visions which you could find in these.

Each pack of 1991-1992 Fleer basketball contained 14 cards. The design was a big blue retangle box that runs down the left hand side of the card with the player name, team name, and position with the box. There is a small, but well taken action shot on the right hand side with a touch of red border on top and bottom of the card. This was not one of my most favorite designs from Fleer, but the photography was pretty amazing.

Now onto my break, I didn't expect anything too exciting, but one of my main goals was hit from this one pack, to find a Michael Jordan card. Which is my goal for any 90's basketball product that I open.

Check out what was in this pack below:

Here is what I considered the best of the best including the Michael Jordan card in bottom right corner:

Overall, this was a fun cheap break which is what the hobby should be made of. Why pay so much and get nothing then get upset when there are tons of breaks like this you can break and enjoy. I know I did.

Note: Sorry about the images. They seemed to have come out a little blurry.

Winner Of Week 3 Of May Contest

Wow! What a final week of our May contest! Detroit had a season sweep Boston for the first time and the final week provided a three-way tie going into the final tie breaker. GRADY MALACHOWSKI, AJ Zapanta and sdnorm1745 all picked Detroit to win and all picked the total score of 8 which was right on. It then came down to the strikeouts. AJ Zapanta was eliminated with a strikeout total of 11 so with GRADY MALACHOWSKI and sdnorm1745 both choosing 10 and with the total actually being 5 I had to random a winner. I chose 5 randoms because that seemed right being that they both were 5 away from the total Strikeouts.

So the winner of the final week of May's contest is.......

There were 2 items in your list. Here they are in random order:
