Rueben Randle PC Card Of The Week: 2012 Topps Prime

For the first Rueben Randle Card Of The Week, I wanted to show off a card that doesn't have all of the flash, but that I am a big fan of.

Topps releases many football products every year and some I am a fan of, but the one that I really like is Topps Prime. This is the only product where Topps doesn't put a border on the card or use some artsy looking design. This is all about the photography and I totally dig it. Just look at this card and tell me you don't like the clear-cut action photograph of Randle making a nice snag.

Yeah, I thought so. You had nothing to say.

So I Broke Down And Did This....

I did it. I went on eBay and bought a Johnny Manziel rookie card after having no success trying to pull him from packs. I said I wouldn't do that in this story on the Johnny Manziel rookie card search, but I did. Like I stated in that article, I do not care for his character, but since he is the hottest thing in the hobby and the fact that I am a rookie card collector, I just needed one. Like I do with any rookie.

I picked up this Prestige rookie on eBay for less than $6 so it wasn't an overly huge investment, but at least I have one now.

The Card Bin

Just wanted to once again promote my new blog, The Card Bin. If you are a fan of checking out someone else's PC, opinion stories, card pics, mail days, pack breaks, Ken Griffey Jr, NY Giants, NY Yankees, than this is the blog for you! You can find this blog HERE.

The first two articles have been posted and if you want direct links to those here is what they are about and the link right to the stories:

Not Fishing For His Rookie (because I already have it)

Fan PC: @UpperDeckGOAT's Upper Deck Collection

Well, I was glad to finally see my first submission for Fan PC and it's from my friends over at @UpperDeckGOAT on Twitter. He found this idea to be fun and something that we all should participate in. Who doesn't want to show off their goods or as I call it, their bragging rights. Enough with me rambling. Let's show these off!

Here is what @UpperDeckGOAT had to say about his PC:
"These last several months have been a blast & I've met some amazingly kind people through the @UpperDeckGOAT account. #UDNation has given me many lasting memories & I hope many more to come. I couldn't keep going without the genuine people in this hobby. You make it all worthwhile & I can't thank you enough! Now, let's get down to business at hand. The Kind Sir at @SportCardCollectors has asked for our favorite cards in our PC. Without further adieu.....here are my favorites. Only @UpperDeckSports for my taste. Here ya go..."

I don't know about you guys, but there are some pretty sick cards in there. My favorites are the Kaep autos, RG3 auto and of course the PMG's. Great stuff by Upper Deck.

Let's hear your thoughts on @UpperDeckGOAT's collection and remember you can be featured on here as well! Just follow the link I provided above and the info is there. Thanks again to @UpperDeckGOAT for sharing this and if you are not following him on Twitter please do. Especially if you are a big Upper Deck fan.

Sorry Mr. Tanaka

Dear Masahiro Tanaka,
I am sorry for what I said in the off-season. I am sorry for doubting you. What I thought was the boldest, worst and riskiest move of the off-season for my team (not that I didn't think that all of the Yankees moves were this past off-season) has actually paid off for them, BIG TIME. All of that money I thought the Yankees were wasting on you, a "so-called" dominant pitcher who had only pitched overseas in the Japanese league and never in the MLB, has actually been there best investment. I am also sorry for saying I wouldn't pay for any of your cards and I wouldn't want to invest in them for my Yankees PC. You have not only proven me wrong, but others who may have had the same doubts as well.

This is why he has proven me and maybe others wrong, up until his injury, which he is supposedly out until mid-to late August (good luck Yankees trying to make the playoffs now), he has gone12-4 with a 2.51 era in 129.1 innings pitched. Not to mention, a whopping 135 strikeouts and without the injury most likely the AL All-Star starter. So far this season not only has he been dominant, but has carried the Yankees all by himself and has been BY FAR their team MVP in a season focused on The Captain. If this isn't proving me wrong, than what is?

I cannot express my apologies enough to Mr. Tanaka. Can't believe I didn't buy into the hype and believe in him. So to show him how much I am sorry and my change of heart, not only am I writing the apology on my blog, but I will also show the cards I have recently acquired of him for my Yankees PC.

This one is numbered to 2014:
I hope this heartfelt apology and card showcase is enough. I believe in you now and can't wait til you come back from your injury. Let's go Yankees!
Sincerely your newest fan,
The Card Bin

That 90's Sport Card Blog Post Of The Day: That 90's Card: 1997 Donruss Studio 8x10 Portraits Andruw Jones

Check out today's new post from That 90's Sport Card Blog as 8x10 baseball card week continues!! Follow this link to check it out!

http://sportcardblog90.blogspot.com/2014/07/that-90s-card-1997-donruss-studio-8x10_17.html

NOTE: The weak reaction from That 90's Sport Card blog is a bit concerning. I really hope things start to go up for that blog. It makes it extremely hard to go on there and make a new post in the morning when the previous days post only got 31 views. But, I will do my best to continue on for now. Will probably cut down on some posts per week because of the week showing, but I really enjoyed that era so I will continue to show off the cards of why.

That 90's Mail Day: Another 1996 Spx Football BIGGIE!!!!

Well, in this edition of That 90's Mail Day I brought home another beauty! This time its a HUGE ADD to my 1996 Spx  football collection. Awhile back I had made a trade with Jonathan Hoffman in which I acquired my first round of cards to be apart of my 1996 Spx football family. Since then I have made additions to it myself. But, I didn't quite have enough money to pull of the other "biggie" in the product. That's when I thought, why not trade for it and who better to trade with than my buddy Jonathan.

So I contacted Jonathan about making this kind of move and he was excited to. So not only would he add more cards to his Frank Thomas PC and his Pittsburgh Pirates PC, but I would add the one card I wanted. We both would be extremely happy. So we found away and pulled off the deal and here is the new member of my 1996 Spx family...A STINKIN BEAUTIFUL 1996 Spx Upper Deck Dan Marino Record Breaker AUTOGRAPH!!!
With this Marino autograph now added, I have gotten all that I wanted from this product completing the base set, getting both the Montana and Marino inserts, then finishing it up with the Montana and Marino autographs! If I wanted to go a little further, I would need to add the gold parallel set and the Holofame insert set. Time can only tell if I will go that far.

As always, thoughts on my chase for Spx 1996 football greatness is appreciated and thoughts on today's mail day is great as well!

The New Blog

Recently I have hinted of a third blog I have been working on but have released very few details on. Well, today is the day you will finally get not only the details, but to start visiting it! Read on!

First thought I bet you have is, why do another blog to go along with this one and That 90's Sport Card Blog. Well, here is why:
  1. I wanted to make a blog more personable. This blog has seemed to turn to more universal, meaning it's not showcasing my stuff as much and is showcasing stuff in general, which is fine and works, but not my original plan for it. However, with the new blog I can do PC posts and discuss my collection.
  2. This blog has also turned to be a big time contest blog. Every week there is a new contest and there is more to come with the possible return of Player Of The Day for 2014, the end of the BCW/Jammin contest, the Pack Gambler's monthly contest, and someone else (info on that to come) who is now offering to start doing contests on here in August. I felt like my posts were being pushed aside and lost for contest ones, so I wanted to separate the two. Not that I don't love giving stuff away, but that wasn't my main focus on blogging
  3. With That 90's Sport Card blog still struggling and my lack of purchasing newer products, I wanted to turn to another outlet for sport cards and showing what I already have.
Now that I have discussed why, I must also note with this new blog on hand there will be changes to my other two blogs. Here is a small list of those changes:
  1. Retail Break 'Em, Hobby Break 'Em will be moved to the new blog. Reviews, will stay on here
  2. PC mail days or anything I get off eBay will move to the new blog. But contests I win mail days will stay on here
  3. All opinion stories will be featured on the new blog
  4. That 90's Sport Card Blog will not be putting out as many posts. Maybe a few a week due to the lack of views. More of my focus will be on this new blog.
  5. Sport Card Collectors will still run the way it always has minus the few new changes. So don't worry, SCC will still be what it is!
To sum this all up, I hope you all are as excited as I am with the addition of this new blog to the family. I look forward to showing you more of my PC collection, opinions and more on there. I also hope you treat that blog as well as this one. I really hope that!!!!!

So without further ado, here is the new blog called...THE CARD BIN (name subject to change). Check it out and let me know what you think! I have put a lot of work into it in terms of design, layout and themes. There is only one post up to this point but look for more to come!

That 90's Sport Card Blog Post Of The Day: That 90's Card: 1997 Donruss Studio 8x10 Portraits Vladimir Guerrero

We move onto Day 2 of my 8x10 baseball card week. Today's is a former Montreal Expo. You can check it out right here:

That 90's Mail Day: 1996 Spx Upper Deck Joe Montana Tribute Insert

In this edition of That 90's Mail Day, I brought home another beauty! This time it adds to my 1996 Spx  football collection.

In past blog posts, I wrote about completing the 1996 Spx Football set, then picking up the terrific Joe Montana autograph. Now I was needing to add the Joe Montana and Dan Marino inserts then somehow pull off the Dan Marino autograph from this set as well to try and own it all. Technically, to own it all, I would need the entire gold set and HoloFame inserts as well, but I just want to get the above cards for my collection for now.

So, for now, I was able to add one of my needed cards...welcome to the family 1996 Spx Upper Deck Joe Montana Tribute card!

Scratches are on the plastic, not the card
With this Montana card now added, the Marino insert yesterday, that makes me only one card from greatness! Will I be able to add that Dan Marino autograph to my collection? Time can only tell....will it tell a story tomorrow?

As always, thoughts on my chase for Spx 1996 football greatness is appreciated and thoughts on today's mail day would be great as well!

What's In The Mail Box?

Had a spectacular mail day arrive yesterday from a contest I won on Twitter from TheRealDpan which was a certain number of follower RT contest.

In this prize lot, it contained some sweet promo cards that you can only find from Panini at the Toronto Expo. I really like the cracked ice parallels and this cards look even better in person. It is sometimes hard to capture a cards beauty on here but I hope you get the gist.

Onto the prizes including bonus thrown in by TheRealDpan that are all headed to my PC:

Bonus NY Ranger cards for that PC:
Thanks again to TheRealDpan for the contest and especially for the bonuses. If you are not following him yet, please do so. Does contests and loves to discuss the hobby!

As always let me know your thoughts on this mail day and my chase to complete the 1996 Spx Football card collection.
