Another post in our new series Hobby Topics. This is not so much a post for us to comment about or give our opinions on, this is your chance to let your voice be heard on a variety of topics in the hobby. We are leaving the floor open to you! So comment away! But please no language and keep your answer clean as we do have a younger following as well.

Today's Topic: Do you invest or do you collect?

Do you collect for fun? Do you collect to invest? Do you do both?

Let's hear your thoughts!

With 2014 Topps Chrome Baseball Out, Why Not Bust A 2013 Blaster

With the recent release of 2014 Topps Chrome baseball and the fact that I couldn't find any out where I am, I said, hey, why not bust a 2013 one instead! I found it at a great price as well.

Topps Chrome is my FAVORITE RELEASES year in and year out. I buy it for both baseball and football and have since 1996. Why such a fascination with the product? Well, first off, its chromed cards. I mean, come on, who's going to argue with that statement alone. Secondly, I like shiny things and this product has plenty with its multiple colored refractors. Third, you never have to worry about losing money with this product. Whether it's a blaster or a hobby box, Chrome pretty much guarantees your money back and a lot of fun along the way. You can't say that for many products especially for retail.

The blaster that I opened alone proves all of my points above, so let's take a look at why.

Great rookie finds in dominant pitcher Fernandez, Garcia and Zunino.

Wow!! Pulled a Puig refractor rookie! Oh yeah!

Bonus pack that contains four purple refractors

Loving the die-cut inserts in last years Chrome. This years is even better from what I have seen and heard

Overall, this is what I call a great retail break. I looked forward to opening each pack and this is the kind of product that isn't all about the hits. You find yourself looking at each card and enjoying each one.

Topps Chrome is simple and fun, that's what I like most about it.

That 90's Card: 1995 Flair Eric Swann

When 1995 Fleer released and included an insert called, Fleer Flair Preview, I immediately was hooked. Not only did I want the insert set, I own two of them now, I wanted the product when it released.

The design of these cards were excellent as the cards were thick, the surface was shiny/metallic with the players picture in what I call HD. These cards had an high end feel both front and back.

Not Fishing For His Rookie (because I already have it)

After last nights All-Star MVP performance (2-3 triple, double, 2 RBI including the go ahead drove-in run ) and his possible run at this years AL MVP, I am so glad to have bought my only Mike Trout rookie card earlier this year before the season started. I had a gut feeling this guy was gonna tear it up again and I knew I had to have his rookie card before he did so.

With Trout leading the Angels with his consistent, productive back to back to back seasons it was time that I landed his rookie card before it was too late. This is a player who some consider the "Face Of Baseball" and at age 22, there is so much time for growth on the field and on cardboard that prices could go crazy and unaffordable!

Lucky for me, in the spring before the season started, I bought this 2011 Bowman Draft rookie for $12 BIN which you could now call a steal. With his recent play on the field this year (could be his most productive yet), his Beckett values began to go up. Now you add on last nights MVP performance and upon searching eBay this morning, you couldn't find one of these under $30 unless you were bidding on one. Most of the ones to bid on had multiple days left so who knows what their ceiling may be.

I am glad that I made the decision to pick one up when I did, who knows what the future on cardboard holds for this possible HOFer. If I was you and you don't have one, I would recommend picking one up soon. This guy is the REAL DEAL.

Baseball Card Yard Sale Find Part 7: 50 Cent: Not A Lot, Just A Little Bit

Well, here is another post to what will be many posts of me breaking down what I got at a Yard Sale that I posted about recently. Today's post is just like the words in 50 Cents song, "Just A Little Bit". that's exactly what I got in Part 7 of this series. I also only paid 50 cents. You like how I did that?

When pulling out this box at the yard sale marked, I only read 1989 Fleer set and immediately smiled placing the box in my buy pile. I didn't notice however until I got home that off to the side it said "No Griffey".

Despite the lack of Griffey, the rest of the set is in fact intact. There were also a few bonus cards shoved to the back of the box.

The bonus cards were odds and ends. First there was Team USA cards of Magic, Scottie Pippen, Karl Malone and my guy Patrick Ewing!

Even Coach K! Go USA and Duke!

Some fun Topps Kids cards..

And this card, that caught my attention faster than a speeding bullet..Michael Johnson! There were a few other Olympic ones, but this was the biggest name.
Overall, not bad for just a little bit. Almost had a Fleer set for just a little bit. Gonna stop my rapping now just for a little bit.

Still more Yard Sale fun to be had so stay tuned next time, same card blog, same blogspot address!

Baseball Card Yard Sale Find Part 6: 2000 Topps Baseball (Lots Of Rookies)

Well, here is another post to what will be  many posts of me breaking down what I got at the Yard Sale that I posted about recently. Today's post is 2000 Topps Baseball.

There wasn't a lot of home run hits here, but finding a Jeter, Ripken and a ton of rookies worked for me.

Rafael Furcal was the highlight here:

Nick Johnson, Lance Berkman, and Kip Wells here

Jason Jennings and Brett Myers

Not a bad find overall. I do wish more of the rookies were "true" rookies but I will take em to the PC anyways. I can definitely say it was worth the quarter I paid for it just for the Jeter and Ripken alone.

This is a fun card...let's put a caption on it!

Here is my caption:

"Alright Topps...last pose..."

There's my caption, let's hear yours! Keep it clean and no language please!

Baseball Card Yard Sale Find Part 5: Some Collectors Choice With A Gold Find!

Well, here is another post to what will be  many posts of me breaking down what I got at the Yard Sale that I posted about recently. Today's post included one of my favorite "just for fun" products of the 90's

Collectors Choice offered many fun inclusions in the 90's from stickers, big set sizes up to 800 cards, shiny inserts and some fun and great action photography. This product was mainly to target newer and younger collectors or me.

Here was the lonely Yankees pickup in the box

Rookies including a silver parallel of Raul Ibanez

Silver parallels from 1994 Collectors Choice

Some cool legends. Really like the design on these. It made me think of something you would see in a baseball movie

Hideo Nomo "Scrapbook" inserts were found 1:12

Oh yeah, great find...Griffey Jr #415

And here is the gold. I was happy about it but it seems Aaron Sele was happier. These were found 1:36 packs which back then was considered a pretty nice pull.
New Griffey add, a few good inserts and some memories. This was a fun find just like opening Collectors Choice used to be.

September Contest Week 1

With the lack of entries for the August Contest, I am not sure on what I am giving away yet for this month due to those lack of entries. If we can average 30 a week, prizes will be much better. We drop below that, they will be average. Good Luck to those who enter! The best way to build entries is to spread the word through RT's, Shares and just be word of social media. Thanks!

WELCOME! This is the first week of our September Contest. Now, compared to monthly contests in the past, this one is different. Instead of picking different winners daily, earning points, having the top three in points win prizes you only need to do this one entry where there will be one winner at the end of this week. This contest will run for three weeks and there will be a total of three winners. Once you have won for this month, you cannot win again as we want to spread the prize love around. Also, once you have won for the month, you will go into the WINNERS CIRCLE where you will not only be randomed to pick a prize for the month (all three names will be randomed and the person at the top of the list from the random picks their prize then so on), but will get a guaranteed spot in October's Monthly Contest. That is the ONLY way to be able to enter October's Contest. which has three prizes including a GRAND PRIZE from BCW Supplies.

This months prizes in the Prize Pot are:

What's In The Mail Box?

Received in this nice Upper Deck NPN mail day awhile back from 2013-2014 Black Diamond. I really like the design of these jersey cards when I opened my own box, but I think this card looks even better than the ones I pulled due to the two-color swatch at the top. Check it out:

Have you ever received an Upper Deck NPN mail day? Let me know what you got!
