Baseball Card Yard Sale Find Part 10: Some Rookies, Some Inserts

Well, here is another post to what will be many posts of me breaking down what I got at a Yard Sale that I posted about recently. Today's post consisted of a mixed box of rookies and a few inserts.

I thought this was a pretty cool find. Great photograph and nice design.

More random rookies/prospect cards. Nothing too big:

I wonder which ones of the 45,000 I got if I have two of each.....
Cool Burnett!

Some good players found in this group including Jimmy Rollins. I hadn't heard of Fleer Futures before. The gray part has like a glitter/counter-top feel and look to it.

A few inserts mixed in with the rookies..

Topps has always liked GOOOOOLLLLDDDDD

These were pretty cool!!

Overall, some good finds. The inserts were better than the rookie finds I think. I didn't showcase all of the rookies either. This was a 800ct box full of rookie cards, other than the inserts I showed, but I only posted the ones I knew of. The rest were no-namers.

Another Baseball Card Yard Sale Find post coming up soon!

That 90's Card: 1997 Upper Deck Legends Terry Bradshaw

This product provided my first autograph in my collection, it was Eric Dickerson that I no longer have, and was a lot of fun to open waiting to find the next autograph hit.

It wasn't all about the hits however. Deep checklist of Hall Of Famers and some great photography as well made this one of the most iconic sets of the 90's.

BREAKING! Sport Card Collectors To Participate In Panini Player Of The Day Promo 2014

 2014 Panini NFL POD

For the third straight year, Sport Card Collectors has been chosen to run a blogger version of Panini's Player Of The Day promotion. Just like last year, I am striving to make this years even better!

The promotion on here will not start until the end of September/beginning of October, but I thought I would make the announcement early to get you revved up for the event.
The contests if you haven't participated before, are always creative and different. Sometimes even challenging. A lot of them require you taking pictures and emailing them to me, but there are some that do not. I try to make it as fair as possible for everyone who enters and try to do a multitude of different ways to enter. You can search the blog for the past two NFL Player Of The Day contests to check out what you may expect. There are many NEW contests this year and one standstill with a new twist.

As for the prizes, in years past I have given away hobby boxes, unopened packs, Player Of The Day packs, autographed items, autographed cards, jersey cards, McFarlane figures, pennants, T-shirts, tons of other cards and so on. I expect the same this year.
I am really looking forward to doing this again this year and let's make it the biggest one yet!! Get ready to win some prizes!!!

Baseball Card Yard Sale Find Part 9: 1999 Upper Deck Century Legends

Well, here is another post to what will be many posts of me breaking down what I got at a Yard Sale that I posted about recently. Today's post features Upper Deck Century Legends. It also features yet another Griffey addition! Read on!

Clemente and a couple of Jeter's for the PC:

Cool posed Mantle for the PC as well

Whoop...there it is..Griffey # 418. I like this base card design. The photo's are bright and have nice shots. The overall layout I find elegant. Don't you agree?

To finish off the box were some inserts including Clemens and Willie Mays. I found the inserts a bit boring honestly and I didn't know that they were inserts til the second sorting time around. I thought they were subsets til I noticed the card numbering on the back. I was already pleased with the above finds, but inserts too, that's awesome!

Once again I am happy about this find. A couple Jeters, Griffey and some inserts and only for a quarter. Bet you can't find one of these cards individually for that price.

Stay tuned as this Yard Sale series continues on!

Baseball Card Yard Sale Find Part 8: Topps 206 Ultra Gold!

Well, here is another post to what will be many posts of me breaking down what I got at a Yard Sale that I posted about recently. Today's post had a box with Topps 206 baseball and Fleer Ultra baseball 1997. My main focus early on was looking through the Ultra hoping that someone had forgotten a David Arias (Ortiz) rookie card. But no such luck. However, this box did provide me more Jeters, new Griffeys and some Goooooollldd.

Here are the 4 NEW Jeter's I just added to my PC. The base cards in this set had two to three different variations in the higher numbers along with the regular base card in the lower numbers.

More Jr action, numbers 416 and 417. I was a little disappointed that Griffey didn't have more cards in this set like other players.

Here are some Team 206 inserts. Great player finds here as well including Jeter again.

Then the luck continued with a Joe Mauer rookie find!

The Ultra didn't provide me a Ortiz rookie or anything that big, but the memories was worth it. This was my favorite Ultra design. The photography was wide-open and there were some great shots. The name written in rainbow foil matched with team color is superb. These are even nicer in person as anyone who owns any of these knows.

Tons of Gold Medallions that fell one-per-pack at the time
Overall, a trip down memory lane with the Ultra, two new Griffeys, Mauer and tons of Jeter, this was a great find for 50 cents.

Break Of 2 2013 Topps Update Baseball Hanger Boxes

When you find hanger boxes for $5, who wouldn't pick a couple up? There was NO WAY I was leaving these behind. Sometimes when there is a bargain, there is a hidden treasure to find!

Box one began well with my FIRST Pineda Yankees card. Sadly, however, this was also my best base card from the two boxes. I didn't add too much to the PC in terms of base.

I did however add plenty of rookies to my PC as these boxes were pretty loaded. Some of these are true rookies, some of them not. Some rookies had multiple cards in the update series eliminating a few of them as rookies. One example is the Puig I found. Says rookie, but isn't the rookie in the set.

Then came the inserts. I was a bit surprised for a box of 72 cards (with the two boxes 144) how few the inserts actually were. Usually companies that pack that many cards into a pack usually pack 10 or so inserts. Not Topps, they added a lot of base. Which don't get me wrong or anything because I respect base cards, but this was a tad overdone.

Here were my two minis, one from each box, of HOFers!

Few more inserts including a Jeter for the PC

After looking at the above inserts I feel in the past few years that the inserts in Topps are not as exciting anymore.I would actually rather not see them. I would much rather see more parallels that look like these. Especially the shiny ones! Unless they can start being more creative with their inserts.
For $10 and a chance at autographs and memorabilia, I thought these were worth the chance. It seemed however that my bad luck showed its ugly head in the break with few big name finds. In the end, I still felt that I got my moneys worth by adding a new Jeter to the PC, the Pineda and all of the rookies. Probably won't be something I buy again however, way too many base and doubles.

September Contest Week 1 Winner!

Week 1 of September Contest pulled in 29 entrants falling just short of the 30 expectation. Since, we were so close, I will give it another week and hopefully we will hit that 30 mark to have better prizes for the 2nd and 3rd places. Another thing to note is the more you enter, the better chance you have to make it into October's contest which is only offered to those who win in a week or are randomly selected by me into it.

Now onto this weeks winner, only 2 of you had Detroit winning with a total score of 7. Out of those two, only one had the closer total strikeouts which was a total of 4. Congrats to repeat winner, Mrblu1976!

Mrblu, please email me at with your address and come back in a couple of weeks for your prize selection. Since you are already in the WINNER'S CIRCLE , that opens up another spot for someone else to be randomed into.

September Contest Week 2

With the lack of entries for the August Contest, I am not sure on what I am giving away yet for this month due to those lack of entries. If we can average 30 a week, prizes will be much better. We drop below that, they will be average. Good Luck to those who enter! The best way to build entries is to spread the word through RT's, Shares and just be word of social media. Thanks!

WELCOME! This is the first week of our September Contest. Now, compared to monthly contests in the past, this one is different. Instead of picking different winners daily, earning points, having the top three in points win prizes you only need to do this one entry where there will be one winner at the end of this week. This contest will run for three weeks and there will be a total of three winners. Once you have won for this month, you cannot win again as we want to spread the prize love around. Also, once you have won for the month, you will go into the WINNERS CIRCLE where you will not only be randomed to pick a prize for the month (all three names will be randomed and the person at the top of the list from the random picks their prize then so on), but will get a guaranteed spot in October's Monthly Contest. That is the ONLY way to be able to enter October's Contest. which has three prizes including a GRAND PRIZE from BCW Supplies.

This months prizes in the Prize Pot are:

Prizes from Sport Card Collectors: Not Announced Yet

Prize from BCW Supplies:

Now onto how to be entered this week to be in the WINNERS CIRCLE for this months prizes and the WINNERS CIRCLE to be able to participate in October's Monthly Contest.

  1. Pick the winner of: NYY @ Baltimore on Sunday Night Baseball
  3. As a tiebreaker, the total amount of STRIKEOUT by both STARTING PITCHERS
  4. Any other tiebreaker will be broken up by a random
  5. Another tiebreaker, go to THE CARD BIN and leave a comment on ANY POST. Earn an extra entry if it comes down to being a random for doing so.
  6. Entries are due by Sunday Night Sept 14th by 8:00 pm e.t.
Your entries should look like this
  1. NYY
  2. 6
  3. 12
Good luck to everyone who enters. There are only two rules, one you must be a U.S. Resident to enter and you must have good clean fun.

PLEASE remember to not only follow BCW Supplies on Facebook and Twitter, please tell them thank you for their generosity and check out their websites for tons of great stuff!

This is a fun card...let's put a caption on it!

 Here is my caption:

"Time to STRIKE those terrorists!"

There's my caption, let's hear yours! Keep it clean and no language please!

The Card Bin: What Did I Find This Time?

I really enjoyed doing this post over at The Card Bin blog and I wasn't just going to leave you all hanging with it. So without further ado, another post from The Card Bin, which is what I call this this tote right here:

I think most of us collectors have that one place we store all of our extra cards that are not PC related. This is where I stick mine. I also use this as a once-in-awhile dig through to bring back memories or for a just for fun experience. I will start posting cards from this bin to show you what's hiding in there. I honestly have no idea what is in there, I only know its autographs and memorabilia cards from the past 14 years. So this should be fun for both you and I!

Onto today's find:

2005 Fleer Ultra Season Crowns Bronze Victor Martinez Jersey Card
Thoughts on today's find are welcomed!

Hobby Kindness

With Upper Deck's promo of UDRAK (Upper Deck's Random Acts Of Kindness) and the promo I have been running on this blog of #SCCGivesBack, it got me to thinking about the time I was surprised with a hobby kindness mail day.

A few years back I was featured as Beckett's Super Collector for the month with my Ken Griffey Jr. collection. The only thing is, I didn't know I had made it into the magazine until a mystery package arrived.

One day I went to get my mail and there was a package I wasn't expecting. At first, I wasn't quite sure if I wanted to open it. There was no address for me just my name, state and zip code. The return address was from someone I didn't know and it kinda made me worry. However, out of curiosity, hoping that I wouldn't get blown up, I opened it. There was something wrapped in styrafaom and a letter. Once again, uh oh. And once again, curiosity got the best of me. Guess this cat wanted to take a chance with all nine lives.

I unfolded the piece of paper and uwrapped the styrafoam around the item. This is what I found and read:

First I was like, wow, what a great letter. Then I was like, really cool Griffey Jr. addition I didn't have. Then I was like...WHAT?!! I MADE IT IN BECKETT AS A SUPER COLLECTOR?!?!?! Knowing that it was March (meaning that Beckett would have been pulled off the shelf), I only subscribe to BSCM and the fact nobody sells Beckett's around me, I immediately began to search eBay for one and luckily was able to find two copies of the Beckett Baseball I was featured in.

I got them in a week later and saw my write-up and picture in there. This picture was actually two acts of kindness in one to me. The package itself and letting me know I finally made it into Beckett after all of these years of trying. Something I wouldn't have known without this letter.

So, thanks again to Conrad whomever you may be.If you read this or read this blog, I hope you know my appreciation for what you did by me posting this and yes, I still have this Ken Griffey Jr and collect him time to time. This particular piece however, will be forever special.
