Hobby Break 'Em: 2013 Prizm Football Hobby Box

If you have been reading this blog, you know by now I am caught up with things that are both chromed and shiny so that is what leads me to this break of 2013 Panini Prizm football.

Each box of Prizm 2013 football has 2 autographs, 3 Prizms (refractors in layman's terms) and a few inserts. There is 20 packs per box with 6 cards per pack. Each pack has a rookie or two. Boxes for 2013 will run you under $65.

Eli Manning for my PC

Geno rookie. I didn't get one of these the first time I busted the product

My three Prizms...

Other inserts. Not too much of a fan of them but did like the Monday Night Heroes design

One of these per pack. You can scan the back of the card on your phone to unlock a video

Autograph number one..not great...

Then finally a good one. If this guy can stay out of trouble, he is going to be another beast in the history of beast running backs for the Steelers.
Overall, not a bad break for the price. I like the Bell pull and I also pulled most of the top rookies so there was definitely value.

I am pretty happy with the results and for the price of Prizm football 2013 right now, I would most likely go back and try another.

Baseball Card Yard Sale Find Part 16: 1997 Donruss...WITH INSERTS!

Well, here is another post to what will be many posts of me breaking down what I got at a Yard Sale that I posted about recently. Today's post is small but sweet. 1997 Donruss baseball was a product I loaded up on when it first released and it brought back many memories when I discovered it in this lot. I liked the base card design and the inserts especially. You know, they are shiny. What collector doesn't like shiny things. Not to mentioned, some are also numbered. And most importantly...I found some inserts in here! Check em out!

These were the small pile of rookies I found. There was about 50 base cards and then these headlined by Matt Morris and Ben Grieve.

Bring on the awesome 90's inserts!

These were tough pulls! Beckett has them listed at 20X base value. I don't think I ever saw a gold die-cut up close til now.

This was cool...Front Side:

Back Side:
Like I stated earlier, not much, but sweet for what there was. This box served as two purposes. One, it gave me some great 90's cards for that part of my PC. Two, the nostalgia is amazing. Brought me back to when I used to collect with my dad who no longer collects. We had some great times opening packs of Donruss trying to see who would pull the big insert first. I think I won most of the time.

Just a few more of the Yard Sale posts to go. Stay tuned!

Hobby Break 'Em: 2013 Select Football

In 2013, Select was one of those products I really wanted to open but it was too expensive for me and slipped through the cracks. Fast forward a year, the price dropped leaving it open for me to finally open a box.

Let's see how I did:

I liked the base cards. They are chromed and are thicker chromed like Prizm. This product overall actually reminded me of Prizm.

Rookies from my box. I got Manuel so I was happy. I still consider him the best QB of that draft class.

Inserts. Gotta say I wasn't a huge fan of their design. Needed more color.

Refractors/Prizms...whatever you consider these, they are still really cool parallels. Got Gronk and Tomlinson so not bad pulls.

I really liked this design with the red on the chrome. I would have loved to have seen a Prizm refractor of one of these. Bet that looks outstanding.

Now onto my hits. I was a bit disappointed in the players I got to say the least

The BIG hit of the box.....
Overall, I liked the design of the product. However, I didn't feel I got very good value in this break at all. Is it something I may try again, probably not, but you never know. At least I got it out of my system and that's all really that matters.

NOTE: In order to enter October's Contest, you MUST BE on this list! Had to make note of this again.

Baseball Card Yard Sale Find Part 15: Updating You From 2002 With Topps And Chrome Too!

Well, here is another post to what will be many posts of me breaking down what I got at a Yard Sale that I posted about recently. Today's post was a stack of cards from 2002 Topps Update and 2002 Topps Update Chrome.

Kicking this off was the best base card I found from the stack. Kinda cool comparison. I like the aspect of this card, but gotta say I wasn't a fan of this base card design at all. Way too much border.

Got some great rookies in the stack. Chone Figgins:

Jose Bautista!

Dontrelle always forget that he started with the Cubs. I always picture him as a Marlin.

Even a couple of refractors!
I was happy with this find. I needed rookies of Willis and Bautista and I am never going to complain about getting Chrome. Especially when this only cost me a quarter.

Still a few more Yard Sale posts to go but we are winding down to the end sadly. Check back in soon for Part 17.

Retail Break 'Em:3 2011 University Of Texas Blaster Boxes

Baseball Card Yard Sale Part 14: TOPPS It Off With Some Inserts In 2001

Well, here is another post to what will be many posts of me breaking down what I got at a Yard Sale that I posted about recently . Today's post was from a small box in 2001. I was hoping to find a Ichiro rookie. Did I find on!

Always fun to add a manager to your PC. Especially when it's one of the greats and my favorite.

This Griffey I already new add here.

Let the rookies and prospects flow! There were a ton! Joe Crede, Aubrey Huff, and Adrian Gonzalez found here:
Nothing too big here....

Or here...

Now onto the inserts that I found buried behind all of the base cards.

"I'm in a New York.....State Of Mind.." Yes, admit it. The song is now stuck in your head.

Jeter and Griffey inserts found here. The only disappointing part, I already had the Griffey.

Gold Parallels numbered to 2001. Found some awesome ones in Jason Giambi, Sammy Sosa and the Yankees celebration. Back then, these gold parallels actually had great value and the gold was actually nicely printed in foil around the card.

Todd Helton to finish it off!
Overall, another great find despite not finding the Ichiro I wanted. The inserts to me were the biggest draw here, especially the gold parallels. Not that I didn't mind adding that big amount of rookies.

This finishes up another post in the series. More yard sale posts to come! Stay tuned!

Trying To Catch Up...

For the next two weeks or so, starting tomorrow, posts will be a little off course on here. Posts will not be published on the days they are supposed to be as I am trying to catch up on three months worth of backed up posts. Yes, I could publish a few everyday but I feel when I do that, you guys miss some or ignore them. So instead of doing that, I have been madly typing up posts for the past two weeks to catch up on all of these "older" posts.

What are these old posts? Well there will be a few mail days, a few box and pack breaks, a couple opinion stories and the final posts of the Yard Sale pickups. I am ready to move forward with NEW posts and feel these ones have been dragging me back and just want them to get out there before they are really OLD NEWS. As it is already, some will be.

So get ready for the next couple of weeks stack of posts. There are some fun ones in there and some eye candy as well.

Things will get back on track on here after all of those posts are done.

Thanks for reading!

Ken Griffey Jr PC Card Of The Week: 1990 Donruss

Bold and bright and so 90's, Donruss baseball may have been one of my first Griffey adds to my collection as there are plenty of these cards around at a very reasonable cost.

Looking back on this card now, I really like the photograph. It's as if he is saying, "Go ahead, pitch to me. I got this."
