HOBBY TOPIC

Another post in our new series Hobby Topics. This is not so much a post for us to comment about or give our opinions on, this is your chance to let your voice be heard on a variety of topics in the hobby. We are leaving the floor open to you! So comment away! But please no language and keep your answer clean as we do have a younger following as well.

Today's Topic: With Panini recently acquiring exclusive licenses to NCAA colleges despite the CLC license being with Upper Deck, what is your thoughts on this? Good for the hobby? Bad for the hobby? Can Upper Deck continue to survive?

Let's hear your thoughts!

Winner Of The PLAYER OF THE DAY CONTEST PART 4B

In what was an impressive win by the Browns on Thursday Night, which didn't help my fantasy team or my NFL pick 'em, this contest was slowly narrowed down from 15 to 4. Now you are probably asking why 4, well, not one person picked under the total score of 27 so in order to make this fair, I took everyone who picked the Brownies and randomed the names 7 times.

After 7 times, I had a winner and that winner is....

There were 4 items in your list. Here they are in random order:
  1. Dave Kaltenmark
  2. GRADY MALACHOWSKI
  3. Bobbi Lee Flaugher
  4. Jason Swope

That 90's Card: 1997-1998 NBA Hoops League Leader Shawn Bradley

This card is psychedelic man! This Hoops design was actually one of the better ones. Tie-dye colors, team logo in the background and a full colored player in the front. This was what the 90's were all about.

Can't Go Wrong With Giants In My Mail Box

Last week I was chosen by Michael Mcmannis on Twitter to receive one of his many #PWEPayItForwards that he does.

I was set to receive this 2014 Flair Showcase Odell Beckham Jr card in which was going straight to my Beckham Jr. binder since I already had it for my set. But, I immediately noticed that this wasn't the only card in the package....

BOOM! Super sweet Eli Manning jersey card /49 with a pretty nice sized swatch. I was beyond excited about this!
Thanks again goes out to Michael for this mail day and especially for the unexpected bonus card. If you are not following him yet on Twitter, you should. Great guy to talk to and does a ton of giveaways.

2014 Flair Set Pickups!

As my search for missing pieces for my Flair set continues, I keep an eye out for any mention, Tweet or Facebook post involving the product and check it out. So when I saw that Ryan Cracknell, who is the editor of Cardboard Connection, post a review of Flair, I checked in to see if he had any missing pieces to my set. Come to find out, he did!

Not only did Ryan help fill 5 more set needs, but he gave them to me. Another great person in the hobby. I think it's very important to point out the good guys in the hobby so you know who to trust. I would hope others would do the same to me.

Here is what Ryan sent me:

I just wanna say thanks to Ryan again for the mail day and set adds.

5 more down, many more to go!

2014 Flair Showcase Football Set Part 4: The Finale...FOR NOW

For the first time in awhile, I am trying to chase down a set BIG TIME. Yes, for those of you who are wondering, SET COLLECTORS STILL DO EXIST!

I have had half attempts at sets in recent years, some I completed, some I ended up giving up in the end. This time however, I will continue to build upon this set from time to time when I can afford to pick up the missing pieces or can find them. I really want to accomplish this one since I am pretty close and the fact that I really dig the design as it throws me back to what I consider the good years of collecting, the 90's.

I have paged all of my set so far, so I figured I would roughly show off three pages at a time of what I have so far. In the meantime, I may post updates of missing numbers I bring in and will continue to cross them off my checklist that resides on the right side of the blog if you haven't seen it yet.

Flair Showcase is set up similar to the one in the 90's as it's broken down into three sections Row 2, that come most per pack. Row 1 that comes a couple per pack and Row 0 with veterans and rookies falls at toughie at 1:6. The set will be a challenge with the Row 0's, but one I am willing to accept.

Yesterday I showed you Part 3 with some name and no name players. Today's is a mix of stars and non-stars both veterans and rookies. Today's is not only Row 2, but Row 1 and 0 as well. I didn't end up showing all of the 0's since what I have is limited.

Before viewing, please take note that you might think you are seeing multiple cards, but you are not. These are all in pages in a binder and where you see a faded card it's not a double but actually the card on the next page.

Without further ado...The final part....at least until I can put the set ALL together!

A couple of NY Giant beasts shown in Odell Beckham and Andre Williams. Also shown in Row 1 is Money Manziel. Like I said, my set is pretty far along, but I still have some hills to climb to complete it.

Please keep checking in on mail day posts of new additions. I have one posting tomorrow with hopefully more to come.

When and if I can complete this set, wait for an all out post on the ENTIRE SET! I really hope to be able to finish this feat!

Without further ado...Part 2:

This is a fun card...let's put a caption on it!

Here is my caption:

What's In The Mail Box? GRIFFEY JR ADDS! SOME NICE ONES!

In my spare time, I find it fun to search Jammin JDcards Beckett Marketplace just to see what new items have been added and to do some shopping.

In my recent search, I stumbled upon some Griffey's that I needed. I said to myself, hey, why not, they are just staring at me. So I picked up a few.

They arrived shortly after ordering and here is what I scored! (ignore the numbers on them, it's how Jammin JDcards keeps things categorized and I was too lazy to unpeel them before pics)

Love that Upper Deck photography! Baseball cards could really use that right now.

Inserts and some Metal!

I know this is a manu relic and that I am usually not a fan of these types of cards, but I have always wanted one of these because they looked cool and to find out that it was Griffey, it gave me another excuse of why I needed it.
Overall, an excellent mail day. This brings my current total of DIFFERENT Griffey's up to 435. I still have a BIG CLIMB to go, but I will continue to add pieces when I can.

If you haven't done so yet, you should check out Jammin JDcards Beckett Marketplace. You never know what hidden treasure you may need for your PC.
