WINNER Of Player Of The Day Contest Part 5! #Bortles

In a contest that came down to the final day to receive some entries, I got some good ones to vote on. It was a VERY, VERY TOUGH decision and one I wished I didn't have to make. But, there could be only ONE winner and I will announce them after the break.

So why don't I first show you what I had to vote on. Like I said, wasn't easy. I should have passed this onto someone else.

 NATE B
"For my entry I chose a legendary St Paul, MN institution to take my POD picture. It is a local diner called Mickey's Diner. This place never closes-open truly 24/365. It has been open since 1939. Truly a great place and some of the recipes are from pre-WW2.

Here is a link to some information about movies shot at Mickey's Diner http://www.iamnotastalker.com/2010/05/19/mickeys-diner-from-the-mighty-ducks/ Famous movies shot there include Mighty Ducks 1, 2, and 3 (!) A Prairie Home Companion, and Jingle All the Way. "

And let's give it a tiny bit longer before I announce the winner and just announce the prizes first.....

OTHER PRIZES IN THIS LOT INCLUDE PRIZES THAT WENT UNCLAIMED THIS YEAR INCLUDING UNOPENED POD PACKS!

Okay, okay. I have made you wait long enough. This was not easy and I will state this a million times. But, the one that caught my eye the most by a SLIGHT EDGE was Nate B.  Taking a photo where many big time films were shot is pretty cool and creative. Great place to show off the Player Of The Day logo!

So, Nate, you are the WINNER! Please email me at sportcardcollectors@hotmail.com with your address. Thank you everyone who entered! I appreciate the turnout!

Remember I currently have another Player Of The Day contest going on right now that ends tomorrow for you to enter. One more after that and it will be over again for another year.

WINNER Of The Player Of The Day Contest Part 5B

Well, I gotta admit I was a bit disappointed in the turnout. I have had people outside the U.S. ask why I don't do a contests for them, one, I can't afford the shipping, two, it's not that I don't do them, but I only do them when I have a redemption code so I am not having to pay for expensive shipping. So I found a redemption I had and created this Player Of The Day Contest out of the blue to suffice and give those who live outside the U.S. a chance at a prize with a very simple task.

However, only ONE entered. Here is that entry:

"Heading back to jail! Would rather be ripping some packs!"

So a big congrats to the person who entered..... Tom Poray. I appreciate your entry and a BIG CONGRATS TO YOU! I will be emailing you this code soon:

A big congrats goes out to Tom again and hope you enjoy your new autographed card!

HOBBY TOPIC

Another post in our new series Hobby Topics. This is not so much a post for us to comment about or give our opinions on, this is your chance to let your voice be heard on a variety of topics in the hobby. We are leaving the floor open to you! So comment away! But please no language and keep your answer clean as we do have a younger following as well.

Today's Topic: Is your favorite card, your most valuable card? If not, what is your favorite card and why.

Let's hear your thoughts!

That 90's Card: 1995 Pro Line Classic POGS Steve McNair/Gary Brown

Pro Line Classic was smart, it targeted a very popular game at the time and combined it with sports cards. This was a great marketing idea to draw in those collectors/players of Pogs into the sports card world.

Because honestly, who wasn't chasing down all of their favorite cardboard pieces whether in full card form or in circle form.

Random Card Of The Week: 2014 Press Pass American Thunder Brothers In Arms Triple Memorabilia Card

I don't watch racing anymore, but the cards are still really fun to collect. Racing cards are the only sport where pretty much every card you pull a memorabilia of is a multicolor swatch. Then you throw in the many forms of memorabilia Press Pass uses and you have a big winner!

This card I pulled earlier this year. It is numbered to 50 with multicolor sheet metal swatches for each driver.

Custom Card Mail Day, Check Out This Oscar Taveras!

This is a long overdo mail day shout out.

I recently stumbled upon a custom card maker, Matt Yerkes (One Star Chewing Gum), on Twitter who hosts contests and sells the cards that he makes. He recently designed this pretty sweet card of Oscar Taveras before his tragic passing and didn't feel right selling it so he gave it away.

This arrived a few days later.

I think his work is pretty impressive. This wasn't the only card I have seen of his work. I have checked out the others that he has posted and they look great as well. Maybe some card companies should take note of his designs.

Thanks again goes out to Matt for the card  I never owned a custom card before so this card will have its own special place in my rookie PC.

The Card Bin: What Did I Find This Time?

I really enjoyed doing this post over at The Card Bin blog and I wasn't just going to leave you all hanging with it. So without further ado, another post from The Card Bin, which is what I call this this tote right here:

I think most of us collectors have that one place we store all of our extra cards that are not PC related. This is where I stick mine. I also use this as a once-in-awhile dig through to bring back memories or for a just for fun experience. I will start posting cards from this bin to show you what's hiding in there. I honestly have no idea what is in there, I only know its autographs and memorabilia cards from the past 14 years. So this should be fun for both you and I!

Onto today's find:

Upper Deck NPN Mail Day:Thor The Dark World

There is nothing better than getting a unexpected mail day and when that mail day is an Upper Deck NPN (no purchase necessary) mail day, you know it's going to be good. This particular one is from Thor The Dark World.

This is a pretty cool card printed on thick acetate. I try to do my best and get you the best pictures on this blog, but there are just some things you have to see in person.

Hobby Break 'Em: 2014 Topps Series 2 Baseball Hobby Box

I recently busted a box of 2014 Topps Series 2 Baseball. Each box comes with 36 packs and 10 cards per pack. Every box costs roughly $55 with one hit per box.

Out of this box, all I really wished for was a Jose Abreu rookie card and an autographed card instead of the usual jersey card. I only got one of my two wishes which I guess is better than none. To find out which wish I got, you will have to check out my break:

Lots of base cards. Most packs had an insert and every other one, a rookie. I must have studied the rest for errors and those cursed sparkle variations. Neither were found.....that I could see :D

I did however get the best two rookies from the product including the Abreu I wished for.

Power Players...

Inserts....

Buy Backs....

More inserts and parallels...

Gold...

Red Foil...
 Camo.../99

BLACK!! /63

And the hit from the box...notice the slight fuzz tear on the jersey piece. Pretty cool.
Overall, nothing too exciting. To me, the black parallel was the big hit of the box.
