Breakin Wax:1997 Topps Screen Plays Baseball 1-Tin Break

For those of you who collected in the 90's, especially the late 90's, you will enjoy today's Breakin Wax. However, you will be a bit disappointed in the end.

In every tin of 1997 Topps Screen Plays, there is one moving action baseball card. These cards were created using Kodak imaging and appear like a very short movie. They cost roughly $4 a tin.

The tin doesn't reveal the player within until you open it. I like the mystery aspect of this, but that also means if you buy more than one you have the risk of getting a double. I will say in my ten attempts of this product that I have never had one double.

Now onto the break.

For my tin this time, I got the one and only Mike Piazza. I think the tin itself looks nice. I guess that is why this serves as a double collectible. You have the tin and the card inside.

After opening it up, you see the card laying on top of some styrofoam. The styrofoam is so you can display the card, and the tin cover I believe as well. There are instructions on how to display them on the other side of the cardboard piece in the first picture.
In the first paragraph, I mentioned something disappointing. Well, here is that news. I don't have a picture of the card unpeeled. Why, you may ask, well, I decided to keep it unpeeled. I don't remember these coming that way when I used to open them so I thought that keeping one unpeeled would be cool. I apologize for this but I would rather keep it that way. If I decide to unpeel it someday, I will update this post and let you guys know!

Overall, I think these are really cool. I wished companies would include motion cards in their products again. Would make for a great insert to pull since most inserts now-a-days fall flat to comparison.

  2. Love these. I completely understand keeping the protective film on it. I have several 90's Finest cards with their films left in place. However... Topps should have used a clear protective film, so you could at least enjoy the card.
