Breakin Wax:1995 Sportflix Football 4-Pack Break

Sportflix...an innovation that had been around since the 80's. One that companies continued to improve upon year after year and one of my favorite releases that came out was 1995 Sportflix football. I was fortunate enough to had bought a lot pack that came with three packs of it. Let's check out to see how I did.

In every pack of 1995 Sportflix football were 5 cards. Four of those cards were base, unless there was an insert thrown in, and one would be a rookie. You can roughly find packs for $1.50 now.

If you don't know anything about Sportflix, they were cards that you could with the tip of the card make one scene on the card change to another. I put this Reggie White card at the right angle where you can see both scenes.

The back of these cards look nice as well.

Game Winners subset. Was a bit surprised they stuck Dave Brown in it. The only memories I have of him is how many games the Giants loss under his QBing.

And the rookies. They are very bright and bold. They are also offset from the base cards as they don't move. the color in the background does very slightly.
Overall, nothing that truly stands out. I did pick up some PC cards in the rookies and Dave Brown. I was really hoping to pull a Man2Man insert. They look really cool and are my favorite designed insert from the product. If you don't know what they look like, I don't have an image in front of me, but just check out eBay and search for them.

CAPTION THIS CARD!

This card is crying out for a Caption.

Breakin Wax: 2014 Panini Hot Rookies Football (3rd time)

Yes, you read the post title correct, this is my third break of 2014 Panini Hot Rookies football. If you have been reading the past two posts, you know I love this product. However, since the first break, I have had worse and worse luck. This box was by far the most terrible of the three.

It's not only the design that catches my attention about Hot Rookies, it's the price. How many boxes can you find for under $50 that has four hits?

Here are the base cards. Love the rainbow foil shine!

Rookies

Showcase parallels. Nice players.

Gold Zone parallel of Bryant numbered to 50

Inserts

Now the hits. 2 of my hits were Panini points...................................................................ugh..........

As you can see, this was a very rough break. I still like the price and the product, but two, TWO Panini Points cards in the box. That seems a little too much to me. One I don't mind, but replacing two of the hits with them, that doesn't seem right.

Despite the poor showing in my last two boxes, I still plan on going back for more. But, if this streak continues, at some point, I will stop buying it even at the great price.

Breakin Wax: 2014 Panini Contenders Football Hobby Box Break

Other than Topps Chrome, this is one of my other favorite must-have football releases every year. The rookie autograph tickets are always the most popular rookies to have in the hobby and I for one like to make sure to have some on hand.

Every box of 2014 Panini Contenders comes with 24 packs and 5 cards per pack. There are also 5 guaranteed autographs per box with most pulling in a 6th and there are 2 that are on-card. Boxes are running pretty high right now with it's popularity and the great rookie class. They are currently at $130.

The product overall looks really nice. It starts out with the impressive base card design. This is one of my favorite Contender ones yet. (also note I showcased a PC card for an example)

Back of card looks nice as well

The nice designs didn't stop there. The inserts were nicely done as well.

Rookie Of The Year parallel of Davante Adams.

Cracked Ice!! Love these! This Shonn Greene is numbered just to 22.

Now onto the hits. A nice Jarvis Landry Rookie Ink autograph that I redeemed immediately. He is really good. Not Beckham good, but good. Also pulled yet another West autograph. I believe my third.

Then came some BOOM! Yes, these all look like they are normal autographs, but one of them is extremely rare. Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix, upon further investigation, is the rare find. It is the Seat parallel and is numbered to 50 or less according to Panini. I had to ask them to clarify if I had the right one. My first ever parallel pull from the product.
Overall, a great break for me. I can't promise they all will be like this especially at the price they are. But probably my best break in some time. Pulling the Landry autograph was a nice start, but pulling the Dix was even more impressive. I also am a big fan of the design of the overall product and managed to get myself the base set put together. May be something that looks nice in a binder. You can't say that for every base product that comes out now-a-days.

HOBBY TOPIC

Yep, that's right. I brought back the popular series Hobby Topic. This series is all about you, the readers. My opinion is mum on every subject, however, you guys have the open mic per say on here. So without further ado, here is today' topic:

Well, this will be similar topic to the last Hobby Topic, but now that 2015 Topps Series 1 baseball has released, what are your thoughts on it?

Breakin Wax: 2014 Bowman Draft Baseball Hobby Box Break

Bowman Draft is one of those products I had always wanted to try but never did, that is, til now.

For me this product isn't about the hits, its all about loading up on Prospects and rookies. Cause isn't that what the hobby is all about?

In every box of Bowman Draft baseball is 24 packs and 7 cards per pack. You will find 5 regular draft base and 2 chromed draft base per pack along with one autograph per box for under $50.

The base cards are as simple as can be. They are the usual Bowman type style with the white border around the edges with a main player focus. These players are all in fact prospects. Here are some of the better ones I got in my box including Correa, Meadows and Taillon.

Then FINALLY GOT MY FIRST KRIS BRYANT CARD! Been trying for months!

Best Chrome players I pulled. Was very weak for me in that area.

Blue parallel along with a blue refractor.

I thought these were a unique insert. Finally something that went outside the box. Pictures of players on draft night.

More inserts. I really like the 1989 Bowman Silver Diamond refractor. Quite impressive in person.

Ice....Ice...baby...

More Chrome...More Shiny...me likey!

Refractor parallels from my box

And my one hit. Not somebody I know, but doesn't mean it won't be somebody I know in a few years. My autograph was also a refractor making it a bit tougher of a pull.
Overall, a fun break. I really like the inserts and obviously the loading up on rookies. I think for the amount of cards you get and the fact they are all prospects, tie in the parallels and top it off with a prospect autograph, this is a great break for its price. I wouldn't mind going back again.

MY NEW CHROME RAINBOW PLAYER REVEALED!

Well, this has been something I have been keeping secret awhile now....I have changed my Topps Chrome rainbow focus from Dean Anna to....

RUEBEN RANDLE!

At this point you are probably wondering why I am changing it since you only see one card...well....that's cause the rest are not here yet! This pink refractor /399 is only the beginning. Wait til you see how far I have come on this and how much I have spent to do so.

I will be publishing a new post each time a new one arrives while adding the other ones in my possession to the post as well.

Stay tuned as there is plenty more to come!

Breakin Wax:2013 Topps Chipz Baseball Pack Break

Baseball players on poker type chipz, both fun and collectible That was my thought after opening up a pack of 2013 Topps Chipz pack.

This product is technically a game, but to me, they are collectibles.

In each pack of 2013 Topps Chipz baseball, you get 4 MLB Chipz, a game board and a team sticker. You can find most of the 2013 packs now for roughly $2 a pack.

The Chipz can come in many varieties. They can be autographed, with a relic, glow-in-the-dark and magnetic.

Here are my Chipz. I didn't include pictures of the game board or the team sticker.

Cutch!

The Grandy Man! New Yankee pickup.

And a glow-in-the-dark Tex.
Overall, I like these. They remind me of something that would have been created in the 90's like they did with adding POGs into packs. I also like parallels they have. I bet pulling a relic or autographed chipz would be a fun find.

Breakin Wax:2000 Topps Tek Baseball Pack Break

Topps Tek brings many things to the table. One, it brings some pretty sick base cards. Two, it brings tek-nology that the hobby hasn't seen. Three, it brings some major headaches and confusion if you don't know what you are looking for.

Each pack of 2000 Topps Tek baseball comes with 4 cards printed on acetate-type material. Like I am about to explain, the pack will be made up of many different cards including Sp's and possible inserts.

2000 Topps Tek is only a 45 base card set. However, it has 20 different background variations. A master base set, which contains 20 different patterns for each of the 40 players, is 900 total cards. Yes, you read that right, 900. That is crazy and trying to figure out each card can be challenging. The best thing to do is read the paperwork that is included in the pack. That's how I figured mine out.

Jim Thome signature background

Batting Avg background

MLB logo background on this nice El Duque PC add

And then I pulled an ArchiTEK insert of Larry Walker. These fall 1:5 packs.
Overall, some really nice cards. I like the designs and I think as a whole, despite the confusion and headaches the backgrounds may cause, they would make for one great chase. Especially for player collectors.

2-Part Mail Day...Awesomeness to View

In this two-part mail day I recieved today, the first part is from a Twitter contest and the second part is from a trade/fun acquisition.

First, a shout out to Michael McMannis on Twitter for this two rookie Prizm card parallel mail day. I am a huge fan of these parallels and it also fills a rookie card need.

Now onto the second part of my great mail day. This one comes from my good buddy @DieselDugong and a big thanks goes out to him too. This was a part trade and part just for fun mailing. There are a few people I do this with. I will mail them something, they will return something. It's fun to both put together packages to send them and to see what they return to you. You just never know. It's all apart of the hobby fun.

Now onto this latest edition. Some 90's Topps Gold Giants adds...all new by the way..

My first Topps Triple Threads cards...

These are cool the 2014 Topps Gypsy Queen N174's...

A cool Strahan Classic rookie and Jeter insert.

Some NEW Griffey Jr PC  adds. Love the Swing For The Fences card. Panini did a great job with Pinnacle.

Yogi! #d to 25

This was a sweet addition. Not only a Yankee, but an autograph containing a Bible verse. It's one of my firsts like that. If you are curious what the verse is by the way, it is:

"But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God."

And here was the card I traded for in this group. My first Andre Williams auto and my first Slideshow autograph. I am pretty excited about this add.
Overall, both mail day parts were great! Some nice additions to my PC all around.
