Oyo!! I Said Oyo! Odell's Catching In My Home

Ever since I found them on social media, I have always wanted to own a Oyo toy. What is an Oyo toy? Oyo's are building block figures with life-like looks and movements. They come in a variety of sports and players. They also have many other parts of sports like mascots. It's a pretty well-rounded product that continues to expand.

I don't know what it was though about the product that attracted me. Was it the kid in me? the former block builder in me? Or the simple joy of adding yet another unique sports collectible of my favorite team to put on the shelf. Whatever the means were, I wanted one.

It only made sense that I needed to pick one up before the NFL really kicks into gear tomorrow.

So I went to their site to find out how to get one. There were many players to choose from on the Giants from offensive weapons to the lineman, but the one I had my eye on the most was an Odell Beckham Jr one. So I got one. I guess you can also consider it his rookie edition. They also have an LSU version which I consider to be his "parallel".

So for $12.99 I brought home this.......

The "toy" comes with a stand, helmet, hat, water bottle and football for your displaying.
Right now, I have the item still in it's packaging. I am not sure if I will keep it in there or end up displaying/playing with it. As with most fun collectible items, you can swing one way or the other on what to do with them depending on your mood. Right now my mood is to keep it mint, tomorrow when the Giants play, it may not be like that.

How many of you own a Oyo or have heard of them? If you own one, who do you got? Did you open or keep it sealed?

Jammin JDcards Mail Day Part 3:Kwipke Autograph!

In my third and final mail day from Jammin JDcards, I recieved my first Big Bang Theory autograph. I love this show. I have watched and bought every season. I watch the re-runs and can even quote some of the lines from my favorite episodes.

Barry Kripke, is not a regular, but does make plenty of appearances as a co-worker of Sheldon Coopers at the University. The character alone is hilarious because of the voice with the speech impediment (not that I would ever make fun of anyone with that condition but as a character playing it on a show it's funny). Which is why I put Kwipke in the title of the post. Some of the things that he tries to say has you cracking up. I think one of my favorites was..."Where are the Stwippahs?"

I really hope Jammin gets more of these in. I would totally pick up more.

So I will throw in a topic for this one as well. How many of you watch BBT and how many of you own a BBT auto card and who is it?

Jammin JDcards Mail Day Part 2: More Griffey Mania!

In my second mail day from Jammin JDcards, I had to add more Griffey's. that was just obvious.

It may appear I spent tons of money here, but when you can pick up Griffey cards for .25-.75 each, you can't go wrong and you don't spend that much.

Some sweet looking adds here. The Griffey HR Chronicles with that swing......

More older 90's Griffeys I thought I had but didn't.

Some oddballs. You gotta love those. Two of these are still in original packaging.

And to finish, some even nicer adds. The Spx Finite is numbered.
I really need to go back for more from Jammin. They still have more that I need so stay tuned for that post. Also stay tuned for a HUMONGOUS Griffey card count update. You will be amazed!

In the finale of my Jammin JDcards mail day, that one will be for the Big Bang Theory fans. So come back tomorrow!

Prize Mail Day From One Of One Box Breaks

An almost weekly Sunday Twitter occurrence, One Of One box breaks runs a #SundayFunday promotion that brings in a crowd and every Sunday I have entered hoping that one day my name would be called. Well, that day finally happened a couple of Sunday's ago.

Another fun thing about these giveaways is the owner of One Of One box breaks who most call, Heavy D, is showing his son how to collect and give back to the hobby along the way. Both things I strongly admire. His son is actually the one that picks the winners of the contests and is also included in most of their hashtags as #EvanRoxx.

Well, Evan, you sure did Roxx with this Sunday giveaway.

First up, some fun Panini promo base cards including Andrew Wiggins and a Dustin Pedroia College Variation.

Up next, a really cool 2015 Beckett National card from the One Of One Box Breaks table. Not something I would have acquired any other way. It's a unique addition and Kris Bryant is on the front so that's a bonus.

I also failed to mention that these are numbered too!

A cool looking Prizm card that's numbered to 99. It's actually what drew me in to this prize lot.

Sweet acetate autograph. Numbered to 25 as well.

And as this great mail day rolls on, a Tom Brady jersey card. My first of him and even though I can't stand him or his team, that guy is a legend and this card will remain in my collection.

And we have finally come to the end of this mail day, two 2015 Panini National silver packs. Never ever have opened these before. Let em be ripped!!!
Each Panini National pack came with 2 cards with a chance at autographs and relics. Here is what I got.

Kevin White rookie in college uni, Blake Griffin and Paul Goldschmidt.

And a little boom, Kris Bryant! I know most wouldn't be excited about a base card, but I was super happy.
A big thanks is owed out to Heavy D and especially #EvanRoxx for picking me as a winner. Great variety of cards here and a solid mail day.

Jammin JDcards Mail Day Part 1:Jammin With ALL HITS!

In the first part of my mail day from Jammin JDcards, I will be sharing low-end hits I got at an awesome price. Like I keep saying, if you haven't checked them out yet, you are missing out!

I love Ginter mini relics. They are probably one of the best looking relics out there. Even for a single color like this Phil Hughes, still cool.

In the unique department, All-Star Game Worn workout jersey. Unique+A Yankee=Win!

Up next I dig into some G-men! Season is right around the corner!

Mario Manningham rookie jersey card

These were one of the better looking manu-relics, I miss Bradshaw some. The biggest problem was keeping him healthy to play.

Mark Herzlich really needs to step up this season for this Giants defense to make any impact.

And there are big expectations for Hankins. It's been said he could be the leagues best defensive tackle by years end.
A pretty solid opening mail day from Jammin JDcards right here. If you guessed that Ken Griffey Jr. was involved in Part 2, you are right. Check back in tomorrow for that one!

Jammin JDSale Mail Day

Over the next few days I will be sharing my latest mail days from Jammin JDcards. Tonight however, I will be showing off my mail day from Jammin JDSale. A whole new way of buying cards from Jammin JDcards.

On Twitter, Jammin JDcards has now set up a bonus Twitter account specifically for cards they put on sale monthly. You must be fast when they start to post the cards so you can claim them before others do. I missed out on quite a few I had wanted but I did manage to snag a some which is what this post is about.

Up first, anytime you can snag a MJ insert for .50 cents it is a good day.

.85 cent for this Kobe Bryant.Great price, sharp looking card. I will take it.

Speaking of Kobe Bryant, I don't mind adding another rookie card to my collection for $1.50.

And to finish it up, a Gmen jersey card for a $1. Can't go wrong.
A nice mail day for under $5 I would say. This was all apart of the first sales done on JamminJDSale Twitter account. If you weren't able to participate in the first fast paced sale, here is a picture gallery of what you missed on this LINK.

I believe another one of these quick sales will happen again at the end of September so don't miss out. I hope I don't cause there are steals to be had!

I Miss The Hobby Episode 6

I miss the hobby....remember when we had innovation and creativity on base cards and inserts? What happened to that?

I remember when cards were printed on acetate (base cards too), leather, wood, thick cards, thin cards, shiny, holograms, were on CD-Roms and so much more. Where did this go? Base cards have pretty much gone to basic printing and basic designs. Not to mention, especially with Topps, being printed on the thinnest cheapest cardstock available. Inserts are a thing of the past and most appear as base cards or subsets to me. Where did the creativity go?

I assume a lot of companies have pushed past base and inserts as the hobby as shifted into a hit only hobby. But, what they don't realize that there are still us collectors who collect those things still. What about us? I am tired of the non-creative base cards and inserts and have pretty much been pushed away from set collecting because of it. I want creative base cards like Spx (late 90's version), EX2000, Playoff Contenders (98 version) and others that give you full blown photography.

I wanna see inserts that are die-cut, shiny, include holograms, are printed on a unique surface, are zingy and catchy. I am so tired of the product "filler" looking inserts.

I don't ever picture companies putting an emphasis on these things again. The hobby seems to be moving forward in the hit only feel. What companies don't realize is that moving forward isn't always the way to go. Sometimes you need to dip into the past and what once worked great for the hobby.

How many of you still set collect? Collect inserts? Why or why not?

WHAT'S IN THE BOX??!!!! I yelled, well, quietly yelled to myself making a movie reference from the ending of Seven. Cause honestly like Brad Pitt, I had no idea what was inside this shoe box.

Not long ago, there was another one of these Materialistics in this box. The previous one, Roger Clemens. Materialistics are not game worn jersey, but just an image that is printed on jersey type material. There are two variations to some which are home and away jerseys. My Gaffney is a home jersey.

In this Fleer Focus product there were box topper ones and regular sized card ones. This one is a box topper.

Here is the back of the card and explanation of what the card is.
Not a bad find. I think these are pretty cool and glad I have one for both football and baseball. These are something I don't believe has been done since, so it makes a bit more of a fun collectible. At least to me it does.

2015 Yard Sale Autograph Pickups Part 1: I am FLOORED! (Fun Join In Activity Too)

A couple of months ago, yes I am really behind on posts, I got a phone call letting me know they were selling a few autographed items at a yard sale they were having that upcoming weekend. Of course I hear the word autographed and couldn't say no. So I scoped it out. Not only did I leave feeling pretty good, but I think I got some fair deals as well. So I have a few posts about my pickups and you will wanna stay tuned for those as well. Now onto today's!

One thing I have always wanted was a signed basketball floor piece. I didn't care who it was I just thought that they were cool and I had to have one. Well, I didn't just get one, I got two!

Autograph Floor Piece number one:

I will give it about a week or so then reveal the answers in comments. This is not a contest, this is just for fun and to challenge your mind.

Show me that you got what it takes!

SUPER BOWL 50 CONTEST! Thanks to Jaybarkerfan!

Time for another contest! This time you won't know what the prizes are!

Recently, my buddy over at Jaybarkerfan's Junk (please follow the link to check out his blog) has been sending me boxes of goodies. Some I am keeping for my PC and some I have set aside for this giveaway. A prize pack will consist of game used, inserts and base cards of star players across multiple sports. I will also do a few other prize packs but will decide how depending on this turnout. Since I have been sooooooooo busy it took me a long time to finally get this all put together and decide how to spread it all out. Being a huge NFL fan, I think this is the appropriate way.

To win a mystery prize pack, I will reveal this later on when it's all put together along with what bonus winners will receive, read on!

Let's get through this mumble jumble.

  1. MUST BE A U.S. RESIDENT OR HAVE A U.S. SHIPPING ADDRESS YOU CAN USE. I know a few non U.S. residents who have people within the U.S. that will ship to them. If you fall in that case, go ahead and enter. If not, I am sorry. Shipping costs are outrageous and I can't afford it. However, if I pull a redemption card or Panini Rewards card in the future I may hold a Non U.S. Residents contest.
  2. The contest is sponsored by Sport Card Collectors blog (I may add a few cards in) and Jaybarkerfan's blog. All cards come directly from myself from these two sources.
  3. Sport Card Collectors will not be responsible for stolen, lost or damaged mail. I will mail it out the safest way I can, if something happens to it through the USPS process, I cannot be held responsible or asked to replace the original prize. I have a high percentage rate of entrants receiving their prizes.
  4. By entering this contest, you agree to the rules above and will abide by them.  If not, you will be DISQUALIFIED!!!!!!
  5. If you are a winner and did not follow the rules, you will have to forfeit your prize to someone else.
Now onto how to enter to win this.....

Mystery prize pack(s)!
  2. You get it right, you win something! If there is a tie, a random will be done for first place then I will decide if the turnout is good whether I will expand on that.
  3. If nobody guesses it right, I will determine at that point how the prize will be given away. Maybe running another contest of picking the Super Bowl winner.
  4. Remember, once a winner is announced, that winner will have 7 days from that post day to claim the prize or we will be in this situation again giving it away to someone else.
  5. You will have til September 10th by 8:00 pm et to get your entries in
  6. Winner will be announced a day after the Super Bowl.
Make sure to check out Jaybarkerfan's blog and to say thanks to him!

And I must throw this in as well, GO GIANTS!!!!

I Miss The Hobby Episode 5

I miss the hobby.....I miss Upper Deck. Plain and simple.

Upper Deck put out some of the best products on the market. Sp Authentic, Spx, Exquisite, their revival of Fleer, and their flagship Upper Deck just to rumble off a few. These were products I lived and stood by my whole collecting career. But now with the power of the exclusive licenses, the only way I can fully enjoy Upper Deck is by buying hockey. Now, I do collect hockey, but it's my third or fourth sport on my list behind Football and Baseball. So overall this hurts me. It hurts the hobby.

I wished there was a way to get rid of the exclusive licenses in the hobby and let us have Upper Deck back again. The hobby landscape hasn't been the same since they left the pro sport game back at the end of 2009. Not that I don't like Panini, it's just a better hobby with more variety with Upper Deck in the game.

I know I am not the only collector that feels this way. There seems to be a group of collectors on Facebook set out to help Upper Deck gain their licenses back that I stumbled upon a few years ago and not sure if any of you have heard of them or not.

Bring Back Upper Deck MLB Cards
Bring Back Upper Deck NFL Cards
Bring Back Upper Deck NBA Cards

I hope their mission works. It may take a bit as it seems leagues are only caring about money these days. Us collectors care about variety. That's why for me, 90's collecting lives on forever.

What was your favorite Upper Deck brand? Do you miss UD? Let me know!
