World Series Finalists And Contest Announced!

Now that the stage is set for the World Series between the Royals and Mets, let's take a look at who remains in the running for prizes in my World Series Contest I took entries for in March.

Now onto how to win it all. It's simple, the player who hits the most Home Runs in the Series wins the prize lot! If there is a tie, the person who has the player on the winning World Series team wins. If that doesn't work, an all out random on will be ran.

Good luck to those who remain.

Reminiscing 90's:1992 TMNT Mona Lisa

Welcome! I have been waiting on this new series for months!!! Everyone knows my love of the 90's and now I get to share that passion on here and take you back a little.

What is this new series all about? Well....
I get the year from the toy and the day the post is published. The cards I could have done by the year of the toy, but I decided to use the theme of the toy instead due to the fact a lot of the featured toys will be early 90's and I prefer a good mix.I must also note that not all will specifically be "toys"but will be items of remembrance as well, hence the theme.

I hope you guys enjoy reading these as much as I do posting them!

Key notes for October 24th 1992:
October 24th 1992 was a Saturday
George H.W.Bush was President
Most Popular Movie released in October of 1992 was The Lover
Most Popular Book around this time was Dolores Claiborne by Stephen King
Billboard Hot 100 number-one single on October 24th 1992 was End Of The Road by Boyz II Men
SPORTS Toronto Blue Jays beat Atlanta Braves, 4 games to 2, in 88th World Series

This is an incomplete piece that I recently found for FREE at a Yard Sale. She is missing her tail and accessories. Still a classic to this TMNT fan.

1992 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Playmates Mona Lisa.
Mona Lisa was mostly associated with Raphael on the TMNT cartoon.

Speaking of Turtles, let's keep this theme green. These 1996 Pacific Gridiron Gems fit the bill.

These over-sized cards all had a great photos with green foil that took up a third of the card. The sides of the card also appeared to be blurred out focusing on the "Gem" player on the card.

I had a few of these kicking around, but these ones were acquired from my blogging buddy JBF.

My favorite of the group, Kerry Collins. Always was a fan of his. I was excited when he became a NY Giant later on.
It was a sad day when Pacific no longer created cards. They always brought something great to the table but at least we have the 90's to reminisce about them.

What memories do you have of 1992, TMNT or these Pacific trading cards?

Excitement Builds!

As you all know, I have been busy trying to catch up on older posts on here. By the end of this month, I will finally have that accomplished. However, tomorrow I decided it was time to throw something new into the rotation and it's something that I hope will be a Saturday post standby depending on the turnout in views on it. I have been waiting months on this one.

Tomorrow I would like you to welcome Reminiscing 90's to the Sport Card Collectors segment family.

Since I recently switched away from posting 90's cards with my blog being so backed up with posts, I have been thinking of a way to add it back into the rotation. The once existed 90's Flashback needed a face lift so I thought maybe I should do more than just posting a card. What if I added a non card item....some info on that year....a different theme of item and card....hmmmmmmm....that's how Reminiscing 90's was born. It's a combination of a little bit of everything from the 90's.

So stay tuned for tomorrow, I know I am excited about this new segment and hope others will be as well to keep it in the rotation. As my saying goes, 90's fans and collectors should rejoice!

My First Game Used NY Ranger Piece

Part 2 of my Steiner Sports order gives us a NY Rangers piece. I don't really watch hockey anymore, haven't in years, but I do keep a close eye on the Rangers and still collect items (mostly cards) of them.

One hockey item I have always wanted was game used net. I always wanted to pull a hockey card with it but have been completely unsuccessful with that option. So when searching the Steiner Sports website and coming across this beautiful piece for $9.99, I couldn't turn it away.

The netting has marks on it. Even cooler! I was also thinking how great of a card this would make with the relic being in a shadowbox.

Here is a certificate of authenticity from Steiner that was included on the plaque.
For a free $25 gift card, I thought I scored pretty well. I think the main point of the gift card was to lure in new customers which to me was a brilliant idea. I was amazed by the amount of items they offer and some of those items were at very reasonable prices such as the two I picked up. They may have attracted me for future business.

How many of you got in on this deal? How many of you bought something from Steiner Sports before? What did you buy? Do you own anything with game used hockey net?

As always, thoughts are welcomed on my mail days!

The Remaining Contestants Of The 2015 World Series Contest

We are down to the final three teams in the MLB World Series run. One team, the NY Mets, have already clinched their way in. The other two teams, the Royals and Bluejays are battling it out to find out who will represent the AL. I am still shocked by the teams that made the playoffs and who might be in the World Series. Honestly, other than Mets fans, who picked the Mets to get in??!!

Well, it seems in this contest that one at least did. Cespedes I won't count since he wasn't a Met from the start.

But here are the only contestants that remain in the running after 46 entered.

OUTSIDE LOOKING IN! Need a Royals win to secure a spot for the prizes.

Alex Gordon

Salvador Perez

IN IT TO WIN IT! Locked in a spot to win! Will announce the rest of the contest rules when the Royals/Blue Jays series ends.

My pick, Yoenis Cespedes

David Wright

Good luck to those that remain in this contest. Make sure you pay attention to the upcoming post on what happens when the World Series starts.

I must also thank the 42 others who entered. This was by far the best turnout I have ever had in a contest.

Derek Jeter Made Me Buy Dirt

A few months ago, Steiner Sports was running a promotion if you signed up for their newsletter, they would give you a $25 gift card for free. At first I questioned it, but all I had to do was enter my email. What was there to lose? That answer, nothing. So a few days later, I received the gift card in my email and started my search on what to buy.

One of the cool things I came upon was game used dirt from Derek Jeter's last game at Yankee Stadium that was scooped up and placed in a capsule..

Yes, I know it's dirt and yes I know I can get dirt outside and yes I know it's dirt. Wait, did I repeat myself?? Believe me, I second guessed it. But The Captain walked on this dirt for the final time. That's right. One of the greatest Yankees may had stepped, sweated, stopped a grounder on this dirt within this tiny capsule. It was only a matter of seconds when I added this $9.99 item to my cart. I also liked that it had MLB certification.

This is just Part 1 of the mail day, Part 2 of my Steiner Sports order showcases tomorrow. Different sport, different game used. Stay tuned!

Do you own any game used dirt? Thoughts on this item?

Patchtastic Strata Randle Mail Day!

Other than Chrome, one of my favorite Topps sets is Topps Strata. Well, I can't say I like the whole product like I do with Chrome, but I do like the Clear Cut autographed relics a lot.

And one player I didn't have one for yet in my PC was Rueben Randle. Mostly because I didn't want to pay the $10 most were charging for a single color jersey version. The patches were much more. Once again, Randle hasn't proven he is a star and in my opinion they were charging like he was or is going to be.

This is Randles third season and he only has shown a few bright spots so I felt those prices were a bit steep even though I really wanted to add this card to my Randle PC.

So just for fun, I bid on a very reasonable priced Strata Randle auto/patch card, yes i went for the patch, assuming it would go for high like the others..........

And to my surprise, I was the ONLY bid. So my patience paid off and this great looking Randle made its way to my PC for $7.99. Now that's a price I was more willing to pay especially for the patch version.

As a topic to go along with this post, have you guys waited for a card you really wanted because you didn't want to pay what they were asking? Or did you buy it no matter what? And if you waited, has it paid off for you yet?

Your thoughts are always encouraged!

CONTEST! Win 2 Player Of The Day Packs!

What an ugly game last night for the Giants. Turnovers, penalties and just didn't have their heads in the game. On Twitter I had posted giving some of these away if the Giants won, well, they didn't but even though I am down in the dumps about last night's game cheering someone else up might help me! So I am giving away 2 packs of 2015 Player Of The Day cards to someone who comments and follows the very easy rules!

  1. Must be a U.S. Resident or have a U.S. address to enter. All entries not following under this rule will be disqualified.
  2. Go to the right side of the blog, VOTE for your favorite SCC segment.YOU CAN VOTE FOR MORE THAN ONE SEGMENT!!!
  3. Then leave a comment if you have done so and also describe the Player Of The Day promo in ONE word. You must complete both steps to be entered!!!!
  4. Contest ends on October 24th 2015 and a winner will be announced on October 25th 2015.
  5. 1 random winner will be selected from all entries.
  6. Prizes are provided by Panini and Panini POD.
  7. SMALL PRINT: Some prizes may be shipped PWE. They will be shipped safely. Sport Card Collectors and it's owner won't be held responsible for lost, stolen or damaged packages once they exit my hands. I will ship out the prizes the safest way I can. It's up to the USPS to help those prizes arrive. (I have had to add this part to all of my contests now due to a scammer I had)
Good Luck and may the 7x Random ever be in your favor!

3-Card Hit Lot, .99 Cents!

As most of you can tell, I am not a big spender when it comes to purchasing items. I am more about quantity over quality and always have been as a collector. Today's NY Giant additions were all about collecting as a team and not worrying about the player especially when you can add them to your collection from eBay for .99 cents!

I must mention first that the seller had a big delay on mailing my cards, so they sent these surprise freebies as a way to say sorry. I accept it!

Now onto the .99 cent lot I paid for. First up, jersey cards of Rueben Randle (new for the PC) and Rhett Bomar.

Speaking of Bomar, awesome low numbered Letterman autograph!!!! Huge fan of these. I must also note that the numbering matches Bomar's college number. Bonus!
A pretty decent mail day in my opinion for something just under $1.

Now I am curious to find out,
What was your best pickups for under $1?

Gridiron Gem Of Rueben Randle!

Another Rueben Randle autograph in the mail, another one off from my most wanted Randle rookie autograph list.

The Panini Gridiron Gems card has been I have been searching for awhile now. I think these look great and are cool cause you can "pull" the jersey section out but the price was always a little bit more than I wanted to pay for it. Finally I found this one for $4.99 shipped which I scooped up.

With this one off from my Most Wanted Rookie Auto Randles list, all that remains is any high end autograph like National Treasures, Topps Strata Patch/Auto, Sp Authentic patch/auto, Spx auto, and my most wanted, a Panini Contenders rookie autograph.

While we are at it, what are your thoughts on autographed jersey cards done like this one?

Record Attendance!!

Wow is all I can.

On an average day, Sport Card Collectors averages 300-400 views. My highest views in one day was 1813 views, then it was 4,067 views that I set back in June, and yesterday it set a new all-time high at 4,203!!!! That is absolutely mind-blowing and exciting to receive that in just ONE day! I hope to see more days like this in the future as of recently the views had dropped.

A big thanks goes out to all that have visited this blog and especially to those who come back on a daily basis. This year has been what I think is the best of the best on here if you were to ask me. Not sure if you guys feel the same. I am finally very happy with my layout and segments after three years of tweaking it. And tweaking I did.

Stay tuned for more new posts ahead.

Thanks again and God bless!

PS: If you have a second, literally a second, please VOTE for your favorite segment here on Sport Card Collectors. You can find the voting at the top of the right hand on the blog. If on a mobile device, choose to view the blog in the web version.

Upper Deck Ken Griffey Jr. Relic Pickups

Yesterday I showcased off some of my favorite base/insert additions from my 118 card Griffey additions. Today, I am showcasing the jersey/relic card pickups. Until now I only owned ONE, yes, ONE Griffey jersey card.

Not only was I able to make a few more additions, but I did it very cost efficiently.

UD Exclusives Game Jersey, $1.25

2010 UD Game Jersey, $2.99

2007 Spx Winning Materials. the highest priced but best looking of the trio and only numbered one at $5.99
With these additions, I currently now have 4 jersey cards. Not much compared to today's flooded game used market, but most of my focus in #MissionGriffey has been getting the base cards, inserts and oddballs first. The other stuff can come later.

Thoughts on my mail days are always welcomed!
