Breakin Wax:Cryptozoic Penny Dreadful Season 1 (GIVEAWAY)

Early image releases of this product had me hooked immediately, the unique memorabilia pieces, the design and layout of it

For those of you who don't watch the show, here is a little background info on what it's about.

Most of us are familiar with classic literary characters like Dr. Frankenstein and Dorian Gray. This show goes in depth with those and other characters by exploring their origin stories in this thriller that takes place in the dark corners of Victorian London.

Sir Malcolm is an explorer who lost his daughter to the city's "creatures", and he will do whatever is needed to get her back and to right past wrongs. He is accompanied by Vanessa Ives in his search for his daughter Vanessa knows they need all the help they can get and recruits American Ethan Chandler in the search for Malcolm's daughter and to take care of some monsters along the way.
In every box of Penny Dreadful Season 1, there are 24 packs with 5 cards per pack. You will also find two hits, one on-card autograph and one wardrobe card per box with some providing an extra hit (like this one), Boxes will run you roughly $80.

(Before going on I must note that my blog was being a bit stupid this morning so I had to use bullets in order to center my pictures, my OCD was being pushed to it's outer limits but it works)

Base cards like with all of Cryptozoic's base are done really well. High gloss and full action pictures. No border besides a base one at the bottom and everyone knows how much I dig that.
Couldn't find info on the foil parallels, but here they are. When I find out about them, I will update this.
Tarot (1:32 packs). I pulled two and beat the odds. These are very thick and very cool
Etchings (1:4 packs). Very nice spooky classic design. Fits the shows theme.
Character Bios (1:4 packs) Find out who each character and their roles are.
Quotable (1:4 packs) Capturing the best quotes from each main character.
Wardrobe cards (1:24 packs). There are some amazing swatches in this product. This one in particular BULGES out from the card. I had to put the flash on my phone to capture it. There are other unique swatches to find too.
Autograph cards (1:24 packs) Even the autographs are cool. Look what this signer left for a inscription. Plain awesome.
Here is the list of signers for the product:
Joseph Millson as Captain Branson
Michael James Ford as Gordon Ives
Nathan O'Toole as Ernest
Noni Stapleton as Gladys Murray
Rory Kinnear as The Creature
Simon Russell Beale as Ferdinand Lyle
Alex Price as Proteus
Harry Treadaway as Dr. Victor Frankenstein
Oliver Cotton as Father Matthews
Robert Nairne as Vampire
Hannah Tointon as Maud Gunneson
Reeve Carney as Dorian Gray
Danny Sapani as Sembene
Henry Goodman as Priest

And the extra hit which is wicked sweet and unique...POLICE EVIDENCE!!!  1:72 PACKS!

Overall, a fun product. I like the base cards, the inserts are well designed and a good autograph checklist. Most of all, some incredible memorabilia pieces like no other. If you are a fan of the show, you need these. Even if you are not, I would say give them a try and add something a bit different to your collection especially if you are a non-sport card collector.

REVIEW:Cryptozoic Arrow Season 2 (GIVEAWAY)

Just like Oliver who returned to the city to save the day, Arrow trading cards returned to save.....well was going to say wallets but I think you would end up buying some after seeing my review so that doesn't work. So it has returned for a Season 2 release from Cryptozoic!

For those of you who don't watch the show, here is a quick glance at what it's all about.

A billionaire playboy named Oliver Queen was stranded five years on a remote island in the Pacific, while on that island it gave him plenty of time to think about his life and changed him. He finally returned home to Starling City and noticed it wasn't the same it was when he left as crime had taken over.

Everyone else including his family saw him as the same ole rich bachelor during the day, but at night with his BF Diggle, Oliver set out as a vigilante to transform the city of crime to its former glory.

Every box of Arrow season 2 comes with 24 packs with 5 cards per pack. Each box will run you roughly $85 and comes with on average one on-card autograph and one wardrobe card. My box came with an extra hit, we will get to that :)

The base cards capture all of the exciting moments from Season 2. The photography is well done on these high-gloss cards as it captures both up close and action.

There are 72 cards in the base set for those of us set collectors. I am not sure if you can get a base set in a box yet, I would assume so like with past Cryptozoic releases. I will update this post with that info later on.

There are parallels to the base set including green, red and silver. I didn't find a silver in my box but got a handful of the green and red. The inserts also have the same parallels.

Green Foil Stamp of Base, Character, Suicide Squad, Archers and Mirakuru cards (1:4 packs)
Red Foil Stamp of Base, Character, Suicide Squad, Archers and Mirakuru cards (1:8 packs)
Silver Foil Board of Base, Character, Suicide Squad, Archers and Mirakuru cards (1:30 packs)

Mirakuru (1:4 packs) insert cards.

Suicide Squad (1:4 packs). These come together to create a full puzzle picture. I like the creativity added here.

Archers (1:8 packs). Showcasing the sharp shooters. I really like the layout on these.

Character Bios (1:4 packs). Each is exactly as it states, I bio of the character and their role on the show.

Stickers (1:24 packs)

Autograph cards (1:24 packs). I got Dr. Anthony Ivo. He is the Scientist looking to unearth a breakthrough dating back to the latter days of World War II, namely Mirakuru, a deadly serum that gave its users super powers.

All autographs are on-card and NO REDEMPTIONS!

Here is the list of signers for the product.

Artine Brown as Hendrick von Arnim
Celina Jade as Shado
Katrina Law as Nyssa al Ghul
Seth Gabel as Count Vertigo
Summer Glau as Isabel Rochev / Ravager
Dylan Bruce as Adam Donner
James Pizzinato as Thomas Flynn
Dylan Neal as Dr. Anthony Ivo
Cynthia Addai-Robinson as Amanda Waller
Jessice de Gouw as Helena Bertinelli / The Huntress
Graham Shiels as Cyrus Gold
Jesse Hutch as Officer Daily / Brother Daily
Kelly Hu as China White
Michael Rowe as Floyd Lawton / Deadshot
Caity Lotz as Sara Lance / The Canary
David Nykl as Anatoly Knyazev
Kevin Alejandro as Sebastian Blood / Brother Blood
Michael Eklund as Barton Mathis / The Dollmaker
Katie Cassidy as Laurel Lance
John Barrowman as Malcolm Merlyn / Dark Archer

Wardrobe cards (1:24 packs). Nice design.

Most boxes will provide you with the two hits, but sometimes you are extra lucky and pull a bonus hit. This is a toughie.

Dual Wardrobe cards (1:192 packs)
My overall thoughts were that I was impressed.  Great design and theme throughout. There are some rare big hits from the stars of the show waiting to happen just like the dual wardrobe I found. I also felt there is great value to be found in a box between the pulls, base and amount of inserts/parallels. The price point right now is a tad high, but there are some rare cards that you can pull that will more than cover the box price. Like with anything in the hobby, it's all about the risk. Season 1 had a high demand which drove its box price up and keeping it there. It's best to grab this while you can.

Then There Were Four

It has come to that time of the year. 4 games left to the NFL season, which is sad in itself, and 2 games left to the Sport Card Collectors Inaugural Fantasy Football League year on ESPN.

This is only the third time in my life I have played Fantasy Football and this year I set up my own league. I had left it open for 32 slots but only 10 signed up so that's where we stood.

My team has had an up and down year going on hot streaks and as of recent, a very cold streak as my QB situation is a bit wishy-washy even though I supposedly have the leagues best QB in Aaron Rodgers. Of course I didn't always have Aaron this year. I had the surprisingly awful Andrew Luck for most of the season but pulled off a trade a couple of weeks ago to get Rodgers for Luck and a couple others right before Luck got injured.

Now we are down to the final four teams and despite my up and down year, I finished 8-5 which was good for first in my division and a playoff birth. This week I face a great opponent in friend Jammin JDcards who beat me in our only match-up of the year 115-77 so I have got to do much better than that to move on.

Here is how we match-up this week. You can leave your predictions on my match-up and let me know how your Fantasy season went in comments. Good Luck to Jammin JDcards and to you guys if you made the fantasy playoffs.

Here is this weeks Round 1 Fantasy Match-up for me.

I Received A #RandomActsOfChristmas

On Friday, I was scrolling through Twitter and saw a mail day from one of my longtime readers,Twitter follower and someone I have followed since I started Twitter and saw a beautiful card that I was pretty sure from the Giants. As always, I comment on mail days people post but this time I also asked if I was seeing the picture correctly.

It turns out....I was right. The sweet looking card was a Giants one.

A few hours later, I had no idea that the card would be mine.

You see, @SolorioAmy, later picked out about 5 followers and mailed them something from her mail day. I was one of the lucky recipients.

She not only messaged me the tracking number, she also sent a number of bonuses as well. So we will do those first before showing off the card that had me at hello.

Nice booklet from 2015 Playbook combining two of the Giants defensive greats...boy they could use them right now.

Everyone knows who this is I am pretty sure...Parallel and regular insert.

Despite the losses this season, I bELIeve in Eli!

Nice Longevity parallel of Ryan Nassib that's numbered to 49.

And here it is...it's a playbook...here is the outside of it....4/5.....

Open it up and......NASTY Sapphire Victor Cruz booklet patch card!

A HUMONGOUS THANKS goes out to Amy for her generosity. I still can't say thanks enough. I will always remember your generosity moving forward when I look at this or any of these cards. Thank you.

Now for a hobby question, how many of you have ever received generosity from another collector? What did you get? Let me hear it all in comments!

Have You Noticed? I Am Sure You Have

In the last few weeks I have made some unannounced changes to Sport Card Collectors.

I have gone to a M-F Random Card On My Desk picture post and on Saturday and Sunday I have taken the basic post/segment approach. Why the change? I realized how much I am on here. I have been neglecting collecting.

See:

I have stacks of stuff on my desk to sort out and put away but because I am always using my short amount of free time to post and I have given up collecting. So, in order to free some time up and be able to post daily, I found this approach is working.

I know a lot of you are not fans of the picture posts, but here is what's different with mine and what my approach is. These are LIVE cards I am sorting at the time. They range from sport, to non-sport to autographs to jersey cards and so on. They will also be done in a variety of years and I am also hoping to catch you off guard with something you may not remember or have seen in awhile.

As for the Saturday and Sunday posts, those will be one of the segment posts from Hobby Topic, to Caption This to Breakin Wax and so on.

This doesn't mean that I won't post an extra post once in awhile or replace a Random Card On My Desk post with a mail day post or review. I like to try and get those up fast.

I am just hoping I don't lose readership in the meantime. I promise to keep things interesting :)
