Unscrewed

I have heard some really bad hobby horror stories on screwdown plastics over the years and when going through some cards in my sorting revamp, I noticed I had a stack of 5 or 6 cards that were in screwdown protectors. Most cards were really decent ones I didn't want to possibly see ruined so I decided to take the time and free them.

For some reason, I sent myself the wrong picture here but picture a Cal Ripken Jr card inside of this

After unscrewing it, I feared for the worst as I was experiencing what other collectors feared and complained about with these screwdowns, the cards sticking to them.

Luckily I was able to carefully un-stick the Ripken without any damage.

And luckily I took my other cards out of these before it was too late. Cal was the only one that was stuck since it had been in there the longest since 2003.

So this is all that remains now Plastics I have no use for or maybe I will find a different use for since I like to recycle things.

So a little warning to all who use these, be careful your cards don't stick before it's too late. I would hate for you to lose a card. I recommend penny sleeves and top loaders the most.

One-Touch magnet protectors work as long as you have the right size card. Don't push your luck as I did cause I had the same sticking situation with a Julio Jones auto patch rookie card in a magnetic. Luckily I was able to get the card out without damage. That put a little fright in my on using those too but I checked the rest of my cards in those and they seemed fine.

Have you ever lost a card using these? Do you use these? How do you store your jersey or autographed cards? Let me know in comments!
