REVIEW:2015/16 Panini Preferred Basketball

If you prefer high-end basketball products and prefer them to come with on-card autographs and prefer that they come with booklets, well, I am about to introduce to you Panini Preferred. Or maybe you have already met once.

Either way, here we go!
In every box of 2015/16 Panini Preferred Basketball there are two packs. Each pack comes with an autograph and memorabilia booklet giving you two on-card autographs and 2 booklets per box. Boxes, well I said high-end, will run you about $220.

The base set, yes, there is a base set, but it is strictly all autographs and is a big set to collect. There are 300 autographed cards in the base set composed of Silhouettes, Rookie Silhouettes, Autographs, Crown Royale, and Unparalleled. Every Autograph in Preferred is #'d/99 or less and is on-card.

Here were my two autograph pulls from my box. One of them is from my favorite all-time autograph memorabilia autograph set in Silhouette while the other is actually a blue parallel numbered to 15 and is the better card of the two. It's nice to see on-card content in a high-end product.

The base set consists of top rookies, veterans and legends of the game. There are parallels for the set as well numbered to 49 or less.

Like I mentioned above, you also find two booklets per box too!

Leading the way for the booklets are 2015 NBA Finals Memorabilia Booklets that have a vertical design and offer rarities like the one-of-one Finals Logo parallels. Stat Line Memorabilia Booklets include Tags (1/1) and focus on single-game performances from top stars.Vs One on One Memorabilia Booklets are a trifold layout with two players per book.

There are also other book offerings like Board Members, Crazy Eights (8 players), Dual Memorabilia, Playbook Rookie Jumbo Relics, Playbook Jumbo Veteran Relics, Quads relics (4 players), Trending Upward, and Triple Memorabilia.

All booklets also have Prime and Super Prime parallels numbered to 25 or less. But, for some of them, not all players are included.

The booklets are also nicely designed and have a high-end feel.

Here are the booklets I pulled,

 Board Members:

And 2015 NBA Finals:

Overall, like with most high-end products it's a gamble. This one was definitely that and it didn't quite live up for the price. However, there is plenty of offerings in Preferred that could help a box live up to it's price when you start to look at the checklist.

There's Kobe, Durant, Bird, among others in the autograph checklist. That's also not counting all of the booklets with prime pieces you can pull as well.

For me, when it comes to a product like this, you have three options I believe.

1. If you are a gambler, then take a chance. There are some beautiful cards waiting in here for you.
2. If you are looking for specific cards, buy singles. Like I said, they look great and the autographs are on-card.
3. If you want to take the gamble but don't want to pay full price, buy into a box break. That way you still have a chance of landing some of the sweet cards but for a third of the price.

By the way, make sure you thank Panini America for this review box and check out their site for products like this one and others. You will find one or more of these hits in the Super Bowl Contest going on now!

Some Shine:Grady M Mail Day Part 7

As every reader of this blog knows and as most hobbyists feel, there is nothing better than something shiny.

I think Grady definitely knows I feel this way as the next three posts will cover the shiny in many different brands and sports.

Up first, I am totally digging these Prestige X-tra points from 2016. They look superb!

A purple and green of Torrey Smith here

Phillip Rivers in this bunch

Up next, some shine from Donruss along with some numbered cards. I guess I didn't do so well with sorting this group out.

And we end it with some pretty slick cards from Donruss Elite. The Encarnacian is numbered to 50 and has a nice die-cut.

This is only a small start of the shiny-showings over the next few posts. Then we end it all with some hits. Stay tuned for more on this mail day.

REVIEW:2016 Topps Strata Baseball ( AUTOGRAPH GIVEAWAY)

One of the more popular products on the market swings it's way back in 2016. It's one that I enjoyed picking cards up of from football (still sad Topps no longer has cards in that market) but never dipped a taste into the baseball world of it, til now.

What were my thoughts on this product, well, read on!

In every box of 2016 Topps Strata baseball, you will get one silver pack with 2 cards inside. Both cards will be hits and guaranteed one on-card autograph and one relic card per box. Boxes currently run $76.

The product has all of the key rookies of 2016 including Corey Seager, Stephen Piscotty, Max Kepler, Aaron Nola, Trea Turner, Rob Refsnyder, Kyle Schwarber, Greg Bird, and Luis Severino. It also has some of the big names of today and yesterday.

For a full look at the checklist, check HERE.

With no base cards for this product or inserts (other than parallels for the hits) let's get down to business right off.

My first pull is a base version of Clearly Authentic MLB Authenticated Relic Card of Kyle Schwarber. It's a beautiful card. The relic is MLB Authenticated and layered under acetate. I think this will help keep the relic from being damaged. The card is also very thick and well made.
.
There are also parallels to find of these which I bet look overly impressive when you put laundry tags, buttons and logo patches under the acetate.
  • Blue: sequentially numbered to 99.
  • Green: sequentially numbered to 75.
  • Black: sequentially numbered to 50.
  • Gold: sequentially numbered to 25.
  • Baseball: Includes a piece of game-use baseball: sequentially numbered to 3.
  • Red MLB Silhouetted Batter Logo Patch: numbered 1/1.
  • Red Laundry Tag: numbered 1/1.
  • Red Button: numbered 1/1.
  • Red Button Hole: numbered 1/1.
  • Red Majestic Logo Patch: numbered 1/1.
My other pull from the box was a Strata Autograph of Omar Vizquel. Once again a very cool looking card and well designed. The middle where the autograph is see-thru but I put a white piece of paper under it so you guys can see the autograph better.

As with the rest of the product, there are parallels to find of these as well.
  • Orange: sequentially numbered to 125.
  • Blue: sequentially numbered to 99.
  • Green: sequentially numbered to 75.
  • Black: sequentially numbered to 50.
  • Gold: sequentially numbered to 25.
  • Red: sequentially numbered to 1/1.
Other hits not found in my box include,

Clearly Authentic Autographed Relic MLB Authenticated Cards with parallels of:
  • Blue: sequentially numbered to 99.
  • Green: sequentially numbered to 75.
  • Black: sequentially numbered to 50.
  • Gold: sequentially numbered to 25.
  • Red MLB Silhouetted Batter Logo Patch: numbered 1/1.
  • Red Laundry Tag: numbered 1/1.
  • Red Button: numbered 1/1.
  • Red Button Hole: numbered 1/1.
  • Red Majestic Logo Patch: numbered 1/1.
Strata Signature Patch Cards that are numbered to 25 with parallels of Gold /5 and RIVET that are 1/1's.
Strata Signature with parallels of Gold /25 and Red 1/1.
Dual Autograph that are numbered to 5
Cut Signatures that are numbered 1/1.

Overall, it's a beautiful product and can pack a punch. My box seemed a bit weak for the cost of it, but I would put this product in that big risk/big return category especially with only 2 cards to bank-on. Not every box will pack a punch, but when it does, you will feel it. I have seen some of the cards on eBay and they have made me drool on this keyboard I am typing on. Go ahead and look them up yourself!

If you like to risk on a product, this is one I would highly suggest, if not, well, better to just pick up singles.

Get My Griff On!:Grady M Mail Day Part 6

Simply put, today I am showing off some new Griffey's for the PC.

Up first, new Donruss addition. I actually don't mind the photo on this one. Usually I am more for action shots.

This is a cool looking card and the angle of the shot doesn't show the helmet being "scribbled" out of the Mariners logo. Solid all around.

Really like this one, solid Griffey swing on the artistic design.

I remember a lot of these moments. I watched a ton more baseball in the 90's especially for this guy.

Another one of these added to my hopeful set!

5 more Griffey's down, 1000's more to go. We are creeping towards the end of this mail day but there is still tons to show.

They Can Be Giants:Grady M Mail Day Part 5

This is obviously a post about the New York Giant card additions that I am very excited about as we creep closer to football season. I think this year could be epic with a loaded offense and a "gotta be improved" defense.

Up first, some Score Odell's.

Then, my first group of Prestige 2016 cards. I really like the base card design and action photos. This group also includes my first Randle Eagles card.

Another new Randle addition heads off this group.

And to finish up this portion, another new Andre Williams.

Can't ever go wrong with some new Giants to the PC.

Tomorrow, we head to the ball diamond with some new Griffey additions!

Scored:Grady M Mail Day Part 4

As I have stated, my collecting funds are way down this year and what funds I have had, I have used to ship prizes or trade items with. So I haven't been able to bust much.

But, one product I was able to open was 2016 Score football which was absolutely spectacular...in my opinion. Every insert and base set has their own form of "rainbows" and in this mail day I was able to add some new parts of my insert rainbows and wondering how far I should go in trying to chase down more of these.

Some great 2 card starts throughout with some top notch players..

Numbered versions for Richard Sherman and Fitz.

This is the gold Edelman numbered version.

Gold Zones. These are numbered to 99.

Red Zones are numbered to 35. Nice Amari Cooper here and McCoy is an Artist Proof numbered to 50.

Showcase of Percy Harvin. These are numbered to 99 as well.

I really enjoyed this part of the mail day as I added quite a few new cards and got a solid start on some Score rainbows. There was one card however left off of here on purpose, that one will be showcased later on in this series....

Nuttin But The Hits:2015-2016 Upper Deck Champs Hockey(HUGE HIT!)

Today's bust is of 2015-2016 Upper Deck Champs Hockey.

There are three hits per box for a $75 box. But, a lot of Sp's, deep base card checklist and tons of chasing makes this for a fun break.

So let's get to the part you guys probably care most about, especially with a blog title like the one I have above, THE HITS!

Let's kick it off with my first hit, a Rookie relic of Flames rookie Emile Poirier. His relic falls 1:30. Like with recent Upper Deck releases, some players are tougher pulls then others when it comes to relics and autographs.

1:194 odds to pull this Subban Rookie auto. Since this is an older break, I have since given this card away to a Twitter follower. Hope they enjoyed!

And the huge boom that comes 1:455 packs and is the top rookie of the class, Mr. Connor McDavid Framed Mini Jersey. I knew from the pack weight that I had gotten something but didn't expect this. These are rare pulls and not ever expected to pull him. Usually I pull the lesser of the players.

Overall, McDavid obviously is the eye catcher here. Not sure how I would rank the break without the pull. I haven't really had the chance to check through my base cards thoroughly enough to see if I pulled any Sp's.

Thoughts on this product and my big hit are welcomed below!

Collectin' Griffey:1998 Topps Flashback

Theme of this insert is simple. one side shows Griffey of the current year....

Other side, shows Griffey of yesteryear.

These loaded foil insert, more foil on one side than the other, fell at 1:72 packs in 1998 Topps.
I acquired mine in a yard sale box that was full of oddball stuff. I was impressed this card came in such good shape as these appear to be very fragile. Griffey was card number 2 in the 10 card set.
What do you guys think of today's card?

Super Bowl 51 Contest!

It wasn't long ago when I broke some boxes for review for Panini and mentioned in those reviews I was using some of the cards for a Super Bowl contest, well, it's time to finally announce this contest before the season begins!

This contest is plain and simple and I ran one like it for baseball before.

In comments, just tell me who will win Super Bowl 51?

One person who guesses the team CORRECTLY will win a prize pack of cards from a variety of Panini products

Here are the other rules as always:
  1. Please make sure to take a minute out to thank Panini and Tracy Hackler for providing these boxes for me to review and to host this nice giveaway with. Follow them on all social media sites and visit their site, HERE, as well. Also give Mr.Hackler a Twitter follow too!
  2. ***VERY IMPORTANT***MUST BE A U.S. RESIDENT to enter or have a shipping address in the U.S. Shipping costs have gone haywire and I can't afford to ship everywhere. This is always hard to do as I appreciate all readers but I hope you all understand non-U.S. readers.
  3. Random winner will be chosen from ALL CORRECT entries
  4. Cards may be shipped PWE. I like to forewarn on this.
  5. Sport Card Collectors or it's owner (person who runs the blog), WILL NOT be held responsible for lost, stolen or damaged mail. Sorry had to add this in since someone tried to scam me once about this.
  6. Contest starts today, ends on August 30th 2016. Winner will be announced in a separate post at the end of the football season.
  7. Don't forget to thank the above sponsor of this contest and I won't mind a thank you as well :)

The 90's Collection:1993 Donruss Triple Play Gallery Of Stars Wade Boggs

It's Donruss, it's an insert, it's most likely artistically done, yup. Fits the bill.

I don't know what it is, but when I acquired this card from my buddy Tim in a trade, I fell in love. It's surprisingly something I hadn't seen before.

You could find these one-per-pack in 1993 Triple Play baseball jumbo packs. I never knew until now about the inserts that were in Triple Play due to the fact I only acquired base cards of the product over the years but I guess this was one of four inserts offered with most coming one-per pack. So they don't have big book value, but are still pretty cool to look at.

Not a bad addition to my Yankees PC either.

What do you guys think of this card? Own one? Gong to get one now? Triple Play baseball thoughts?

Nuttin But The Hits:2016 Goodwin Champions (Nice Auto)

Today's Nuttin But The Hits is brought to you by one of my other favorite yearly purchases, Goodwin Champions. It's sorta closely related to Allen And Ginter to me but with more cool oddities.

Boxes run about $75 and come with three hits with a combo of..

- Autographs
- Single or dual swatch mem cards
- Origin of Species patch cards
- Alice's Adventures in Wonderland Masterpieces Booklets
- The Supernaturals Lenticular cards
- Museum Relics - WWII
- Goodwin Cut Signatures
- Historical Rhetoric Audio Booklets

You also can't forget the red hot Ben Simmons autograph and base card Sp to find in here to. I didn't find one however.

Now the hits:

Goudey:

Black&White SP's. These are cool.

Mini's

My first relic hit. Not somebody I know, but I like the outside the norm pulls. And this is a toughie for this person, 1:111 packs.

My next hit was a bit disappointing. These are cool looking and all, but price per box and have a relic, auto or something bigger get filled in by a Supernatural lenticular card is a bit tough. There are different levels of rarity on these and mine is 1:84. One of the basic ones.

And my best pull of the box, Kevin Smith autograph. He is from Group C autographs which fall 1:576. Tough pull.

Overall, Smith saved the box. But, it's still a solid product and so much fun packed in here. I hope to be able to bust another box sometime.

Thoughts on today's Nuttin But The Hits break are welcomed below!

Sunday's With Rodney:1995 Score Backfield Stars

Once again, we tackle the shiny stuff when it comes to Rodney Hampton cardboard.

Today's is from 1995 Score. The insert was called Backfield Stars and fell at a rate of 1:37 packs so it wasn't an easy pull. I picked this one up in a trade and only ever pulled one from Score but it was a good one in Emmitt Smith.

The cards featured the leagues top runners and the card front contains a holographic gold foil background with a colored player in the forefront. The word Backfield Stars runs down the side.
For some reason, the back of the card decided to delete itself so today's post has front only.

What are your thoughts on today's card?
