A Mail's Long Journey

Back in about the middle of August, @JGfan24ever on Twitter was running one of his #PWEPayItFoward fun contests where he had a drop bucket of cards he was giving away and asked that you picked out one that you would want to win.

There were many options to choose from but I settled in on was this card...
Yes, it seems wrong being a huge Giants fan choosing an Eagles card (especially during Giants show-off card week), but I love Certified first of all. The patch looks really cool (even though Jordan needs a lot of help with his auto) and just the overall appeal of the card had me.
So like @JGfan24ever always does, he mailed it right out. What we didn't expect was it never arriving.....
Until yesterday.
We had already pretty much decided that the mail carrier had lost it. Which seemed the case til the half mangled envelope arrived in my mail box to my surprise yesterday. I checked over the envelope to see if there was an indication that it had been lost and I noticed one slight mistake with my address on the envelope which must have caused it to go back to who knows where and sit there for who knows how long and almost a month later they decided to finally pass it forward.

Despite the envelopes poor appearance, the card was mint. Out of all of this, the fact it arrived and arrived safely is what really matters.

So a big thanks is owed to @JGfan24ever for the mail day. Not only does he run many contests, he is a really great guy. No joking about that. Just check him out on Twitter and I know you will agree.

So let's have a topic to go along with this mail day to,
Have you ever expected something to show up that either never did or did much later? What happened? Leave your thoughts below!

NYG Week Part 6:Replacing A Redemption #2

Today is part 2 of my redemption replacement and kicks off Day #6 of NYG week. A week leading up to the Giants opening day game vs Dallas that comes up tomorrow at 4 pm.

Today's redemption replacement was of a 2012-2013 Panini Brilliance Jim Jackson autograph.

I think I did much better than that....
My first NFL Gear jersey signature from National Treasures. Very nice looking card with an on-card autograph making this card #87 in my Andre Williams PC.

Thoughts on my redemption replacements are welcomed in comments or any comments in general are welcomed.

Giants week comes to an end tomorrow for kickoff Sunday. Not sure what card I will post, but I gotta top the week off somehow.

REVIEW:2016 Topps Archives Signature Series Baseball (1/1 Pulled!)

Today's review comes as a new product to me. This is something I haven't ever busted before so let's see if it left an impression for me...

In every box of 2016 Topps Archives Signature Series baseball is 1 encased autographed card. Every card is hand-signed, numbered and encased and you just never know who will pop up in your box or what classic Topps design will. Boxes run around $50. Some places may be cheaper on this.

Each card has a foil stamped Archives logo on the front and each autographed Buyback card should be of a “retired MLB All-Stars”.  The cards are all from previous releases from Bowman and Topps and in some cases the cards are more than 50 years old. Some are more recent cards.

Cool additions added to this years version are Dual Autographs, Autographed Relics and Autographed Legends, which features some of the sport’s greatest names.

If you are in need to check out the checklist of player, well, here ya go right HERE. There are 102 players to collect.

Now onto my pull. It's a 1989 Bowman 1/1 buyback auto of Carlton Fisk:
Overall, I actually like the concept. The price isn't too bad once you take a gander at the autographed checklist. It's obviously a gamble, but it offers plenty of names and definitely plenty of low numbered cards that it's actually worth rolling the dice for. Like how often can you buy a $50 box and get a 1/1? Not too often. It also looks like sales appear to be good on the singles.

This product obviously won't be for everyone as I think the price vs one-card will scare some away.
It would also be really hard to put a set together of (unless you got the money and patience) but that's not to me the key point of Topps Archives Signature Series is. It's that fun nostalgic feel with the players and the classic designs over the years that make you (if born after these releases) smile and feel young again.

So yes, to answer my earlier question as many of you know I dig nostalgia, this product for sure left an impression.

Please make sure to take a minute out to thank Topps for providing this box for me to review and look for a giveaway from.a previous product coming up this weekend. Follow them on all social media sites and visit their site,, as well.

NYG Week Part 5:Replacing A Redemption #1

Well, as with all of my redemptions that don't get filled after the 4-month deadline, I get them replaced.

No different with my latest two redemptions. I got them both replaced and showing the results off today and tomorrow.

I much prefer getting a card from a player on my team then a card I didn't want in the first place. I mean, who doesn't?

So when the 4-months hit on my redemption for a 2015 Donruss Signature Series Rookie Jersey auto of Buck Allen had reached it's point, I requested from Panini (who are the best at these replacments) something Giants for it. Here is what I got....
Not too bad. My first autograph of his as well. Hopefully this year he will be able to stay on the field and play and make an impact on a defense that really needs it and add some depth to the D-line.

My second card, coming tomorrow, is much more of an upgrade. Stay tuned!

NYG Week Part 4:The Sterling Of The Trade

For months and months since the draft, I have been in dire need of a Sterling Shepard rookie autograph. He was this years second round draft pick and drawing a lot of attention and a lot of comparisons to Odell.

But, before I could even look at one, his prices went way beyond my reach. I was devastated and my only hope was to get one in a trade. Well, luckily my buddy at 90's Niche Football Card Blog came through for me.

It's not a Giants uniform or a brand I usually collect, but it's on-card, shiny and Sterling Shepard.....

Thanks again goes out to 90's Niche Football Card Blog for this amazing trade and I look forward to our next one as I will tell you all as well, it will be a biggie.

If you haven't added his blog yet, please do so. Especially if you are a fan of 90's cards. Like I said before as well, he is a 5-Star trader and if you have any Green Bay Packers or Virginia Tech cards, send em his way.

The End Of An Era

Since 2012, Sport Card Collectors has hosted the blogger version of Panini's Player Of The Day promotion help spreading awareness of the card shop phenomenon where a customer of an LCS can open a pack of Panini NFL cards and try to"pull" the highlighted Panini NFL Player of the Day or the Wild Card to win a prize. There are also weekly winners and each shop can choose a monthly winner among those weekly ones that get a shot at the big prize of spending a day with an NFL player.
This blog not only got to help spread the word, but it got to hand out many prizes from sports figures to t-shirts to Player Of The Day packs to autographed items to even hobby boxes to readers who joined in on some fun challenging contests which also tied back in with Panini's version.

Sadly today however, it was confirmed that the blogger promo will no longer carry on which means no 5th edition of the promo on this blog or anymore going forward.

Over the years Sport Card Collectors blog was a three-time champion host and last year was the ONLY blog to participate in the promo which handed out tons of prizes (that Panini and myself provided) while having some football fun along the way.

It's definitely a bit disappointing to not host it anymore, but with all good things, they all come to an end.

I just wanted to say thank you again to those of you who participated over the years and to Scott, Doug and Panini for allowing me to host the past four.

The 2016 Panini Player Of The Day contest in your LCS' starts really soon and I encourage you to join in and wish you the best of luck on trying to win a day with your favorite player.

You can also enter contests and keep up on the latest news by following @PaniniPOD on Twitter.

NYG Week Part 3:Cool Andre Williams Additions!

Part 3 displays some Andre Williams cards I have wanted for awhile and thanks to 90's Niche Football Card Blog , I finally got them!

Despite being apart of this years cuts, I still plan on moving forward in collecting Andre. I think prices may dip some and maybe, just maybe he will land with a team and play the way he did in college. I think part of the reason he didn't fit in with the Giants is because of all of the RB depth and the Oline was very poor and still is.

Up first, Black Gold rookie card. The bonus here, it's the parallel numbered to 49 and includes a nice patch. The only thing disappointing with this design, his autograph sorta gets lost here. But, I love the gold ink on black for sure.

Up next, I have wanted the Contenders autograph of him for some time but they were a bit more than I wanted to pull the trigger on buying. Luckily I finally got one in a this trade and just like above, it's not the base version. This is the Sp photo variation.
Well, this part is done and one more part to go with my trade with 90's Niche Football Card Blog .

However, I am not sure if Giants week ends there. As you can tell, I am so ready for this football season especially having to suffer through the Yankees this year.

NYG Week Part 2:The Third Round Rookie

Now it's time for Part 2 (well three if you count my first post) of my trade with 90's Niche Football Card Blog .

Today's NYG Week showcase is of third round pick from Boise State, Darian Thompson.

This guy has been making an impact on the field and in practice. I am really hoping to see him on the field a lot especially after scoring this sweet rookie ticket auto in this trade.

The one position the Giants really struggled with, well one that stood out more on defense, was the safety position. I am hopeful with Landon Collins already in place and the addition of Thompson big things will happen this season.

Part 3 is on the way tomorrow!

NYG Week Part 1:Can't CONTEND With Contenders Autographs

Well, a few weeks ago I posted about my trade with 90's Niche Football Card Blog and told you I would use the rest of the trade as a series of posts to countdown to the NY Giants first game of the regular season against the Dallas Cowboys.

Well, here we go.

Up first, my very first Geremy Davis autograph. This guy hit the field a few times last year but never really made an impact yet. But, I keep hearing that he is a hidden gem, it's just too bad the Giants didn't feel the same way as he was apart of this years cuts. Luckily for me though, they re-signed him to the Practice Squad.

Steve Smith was absolutely dominant his years with the Giants. His rookie year was slowed down by injuries but he made a huge impact and catch in the Giants Super Bowl 42 win over the Patriots

Tavares King is a guy who looked to have a solid training camp and preseason made this years team. Corey Washington at one time was dominant in the preseason too and was one of my favorite players from the preseason of 2015, failed to provide the boom in the regular season like he did in the preseason. I still think he has a lot of potential if given just one more shot.

And finally, a card I have wanted for a couple of years, running back Orleans Darkwa. Not only do I love the name, but he has proven himself a few times on the field and so far is on the team. The guy also had a very solid preseason so who knows where he actually stands on the depth chart.

A great start to Giants week I must say. But, there is more to come. Stay tuned!

Yard Sale Finds:$1 A Box

This is no normal trash bag, this has the contents of yet another mother-in-law yard sale find.
I haven't had a chance to fully search the contents within, but I do know there are 5 boxes of baseball cards (mostly in the boxes the packs came in along with one set) and that she only paid $1 each which she was surprised by.

Like I have stated before on here, the hobby is not alive where I am and sometimes you can just find some good bargains.
Hopefully I will be able to dig into this soon and breakdown what I find in here with you guys.

So for now, have you ever found $1 per box bargain at a yard sale before?
