REVIEW:2016 Topps Apex MLS Soccer (AUTO GIVEAWAY)

Last years collector's favorite Apex soccer makes its return again. This time bringing back some of last years favorites and new twists to this years.

This is my very first break of it and my thoughts on it are something you are going to have to READ ON to see...

In every 2016 Topps Apex Soccer hobby box are two mini boxes. A hobby box comes with 2 autographs and one Crest jumbo relic. However, if you were to buy just a mini box it would come with a variety of two hits or one. Hobby boxes of this product are very reasonable for $40 per so I expect more hobby boxes to be bought then mini boxes that are $22-$25 each. Each mini box comes with one silver pack of 32 cards.

The base cards are a combination of Topps Fire and Topps Valor in my opinion. The artsy brilliance that Topps Fire provided is an eye catcher on these and the combo of a rough background feel and glossy player in the forefront gives us the Topps Valor appeal. Overall, this looks great.

There are 100 base cards to collect with rookies including 2016 MLS SuperDraft #1 overall pick Jack Harrison (pictured below) and league's biggest stars and MLS newcomers.

Also look for various Rookie Short Prints featuring 1st round draft picks from the 2016 MLS SuperDraft! These will be cards #101-110.

It wouldn't be a Topps product without some parallel fun. This is a blue parallel /99 and these seem to be one per pack.

Other parallels you can find are...
  • Green Parallel: sequentially numbered.
  • Red Parallel: sequentially numbered to 5
  • Purple Parallel: numbered 1/1.
  • Printing Plates: numbered 1/1.
Inserts like these fall 3 Global Influence per pack. Gotta love the design of these with the players flag in the background. There are autograph versions of these too.

Golazo is the other insert set. Looks like one per pack.
These have parallels
  • Green Parallel: sequentially numbered.
  • Red Parallel: sequentially numbered to 5
  • Purple Parallel: numbered 1/1.
  • Printing Plates: numbered 1/1.
There are also Kick Exclusive Redemption Cards that you can unlock in the app. These cards are numbered to 25.

Now onto the hits! One mini box had one auto and one parallel. The other had one auto parallel and the memorabilia card.

For the first time in a Topps MLS set, there are some on-card autograph finds.

These are the base autographs I pulled.

This is a blue parallel /99

These have other parallels too.
  • Green Parallel: sequentially numbered.
  • Red Parallel: sequentially numbered to 5.
  • Purple Parallel: numbered 1/1.
There are also other autographs to find in the product. Here they are:

2016 ALL-STAR AUTOGRAPHS feature Members of the MLS squad who shirted up against Arsenal in July 2016

MATCH DAY DIE-CUT RELIC are tough pulls at 1 per hobby case. They also have a Red Parallel numbered to 5 and a Purple Parallel numbered 1/1.

Dual Autograph Cards featuring thematically paired MLS superstars
And my final hit is a really cool one, nice swatch /50

There are tons of other fun swatches to find too.
  • Red Patch Parallel numbered to 5.
  • Red Collar Parallel: featuring a prime multi-color piece from the jersey collar.
  • Purple Shield Parallel that features the miniature MLS shields from the back jersey number tat are numbered 1/1
  • Purple Team Parallel features a multi-color patch piece from the team name logo on jersey neck and are also numbered 1/1
  • Purple ADIDAS Parallel is pretty obvious as it features the Adidas logo. These are also numbered 1/1.
  • Printing Plates feature a multi-color patch piece and are 1/1's.
My overall thoughts are simple. I like it. Great price on the product, nice looking cards and possible big hits waiting to happen. I think it's worth the risk and if you love MLS and collecting the cards, this is definitely a way to go. I have heard many other collectors rave about the Apex product and haven't seen any complaints.

GIVEAWAY TIME!

$1 Yard Sale Boxes Breakdown Part 4

I showed off a garbage bag containing some cards a couple weeks ago and said I would break down what was in there, well, here we go.

1 more post to go in this 5 part series for you will see what I found. Of course, I saved the best for last tomorrow.

Today, we still must continue on this time with a box of 1992 Fleer Ultra baseball

Inside the box, there were 4 big stacks of 1992 Fleer Ultra and to my surprise this time, some of the good players were actually in there. A good amount of them.

Here are some rookies. Well, not what I would call rookies but what the card companies call rookies. Yes, I am one of those collectors.

Moose! Not a real rookie or a true rookie as I call it, but still a nice find. The photos on these are really sharp and crystal clear. Something just like Stadium Club was known for.

Ripken Jr! Found 3.

And a bunch of other stars from Jeff Bagwell to Craig Biggio to John Smoltz to Greg Maddux

Overall, the best $1 box so far. But, I still saved the best for last so guess you will have to comeback tomorrow and see.

Thoughts on Part 4 are welcomed below!

$1 Yard Sale Boxes Breakdown Part 3

I showed off a garbage bag containing some cards a couple weeks ago and said I would break down what was in there, well, here we go.

2 more days you will to see what was found.

Today, we continue on this time off a box of 1991 Leaf baseball

Inside the box, there were 4 big stacks of 1991 Leaf and as I expected, some of the good players were pulled leaving behind a few stragglers that I will use for my PC.

Once again, no Jr. But, just like with the last box, a few more star stragglers were found.

And out of all of these, there is simply something about the Oz here that stands out. I think it's the red of the Cardinals uni and the photo being different than the rest.

Overall, a better box than the first just because more of the bigger names found. But, still not as good as I was hoping and still no diamonds in the rough.

Thoughts on Part 3 are welcomed below!

$1 Yard Sale Boxes Breakdown Part 2

I showed off a garbage bag containing some cards a couple weeks ago and said I would break down what was in there, well, here we go.

3 more days to go in this 5 part series for you will see what I found.

Today, we continue on with a box of 1993 Leaf baseball
Inside the box, there were 4 big stacks of 1993 Leaf and as I expected, some of the good players were pulled leaving behind a few stragglers that I will use for my PC.
The best of the vets come here. Sosa and Bagwell. Sadly again, no Griffey Jr. Not that I needed this one.

I used to just toss this kinda card to one side, but now I pause a second as it makes me think of a blogger...(which if you need this one, let me know)

And finally, Mr. Hall Of Fame Mike Piazza.

Overall, a better box than the first just because of the bigger names found. But, still not as good as I was hoping.

Thoughts on Part 2 are welcomed below!

$1 Yard Sale Boxes Breakdown Part 1

I showed off a garbage bag containing some cards a couple weeks ago and said I would break down what was in there, well, here we go.

Over the next 5 days you will see what was found.

Today, we kick it off with a box of 1991 Fleer Ultra baseball

Inside the box, there were 4 stacks of the infamous  Fleer Ultra and as I expected, the good players were pulled leaving behind a few stragglers that I will use for my PC.

Rookie cards here. The Garces is a odd photo lol.

It's Garces again! Also an actual Denny Neagle rookie card. How many of us remember he was a Twin? I know I didn't.

And the one vet, Ken Griffey. It's actually a new one for my pops end of my Griffey PC so it works.

Overall, $1 for the box. Tons of base, 4 rookie cards and a Griffey. Still worth it to me.

Thoughts on Part 1?

Box Of Goodies:Grady M Strikes AGAIN! Part 9

Today marks the finale of my latest mail day from Sport Card Collector's reader, Grady M.

Lot's of 2016 Topps Chrome refractors. Gardner and Chapman for the Yanks PC.

Some more good players mixed in here including Fernandez and Cano.

Some Prism refractors including 3,000 hit master Ichiro and Bat Tossin' Jose Bautista.

Purple and Blue numbered refractors

And many pinks followed with the likes of A-Rod, Tex and Verlander.

Well, this marks the end to another excellent mail day from Grady M. Like I said, this wasn't all of it as it may have taken me a month to post it all.

Many thanks goes out to Grady for this mail day and I hope to put something together for you soon.

It appears I have a lot of sorting to accomplish and am heading there to start now.

Thanks for reading and checking out this mail day series.

2016 SCC NFL Week 2

Another week in the NFL is over, well for me, and let's see how things went.

Another nail biter yesterday for the Giants, but another game they were able to close out on. Something last year they couldn't do.

Another big game for rookie WR Sterling Shepard who brought in over 100 yards

But, the biggest catch came from Victor Cruz who made an incredible leaping catch over the defender and hauled it in. That catch was a redemption catch because he had fumbled earlier in the game after a catch and long run.

The defense shut down Drew Brees and Special Teams played a big role as well.

My biggest concern is still the offense. They can move the ball, but turnovers and missing oppurtunities to score worry me. Hopefully they will get it together as the season goes on.

Washington is up next and we all know we will hear the Odell vs Norman talk all week. But I have a feeling they are just chalking it up. I don't think it will be the same kinda game like last year but we will see.

But, for now, I will enjoy my 2-0 Giants thoughts.

As for NFL Pick Em this week, another tough one as I only got 8 games yesterday. My wife beat me.

Fantasy didn't do me much better. I have a 1 point lead going into tonight and leaning heavily on a defensive player, but my opponent is too. My personal league I just stink. It's time to clean house.

Alright guys, how did your NFL week turn out? Fantasy win? Your team win?

Let's hear it in comments!

Box Of Goodies:Grady M Strikes AGAIN! Part 8

We continue on with the shiny-goodness gallery.

As I stated in my review for Topps Chrome, I absolutely loved the Future Stars design. Now I have more towards my set needs.

Lot's of Chrome refractors! This group even includes Albert Pujols.

Purple refractors including A-Rod and power hitter Mark Trumbo.

Can't forget about a couple of re/white/blue Prizm parallels.

I couldn't figure out which post to stick these in, so I stuck them in this one knowing tomorrow's post is all about 2016 Topps Chrome.

Low numbered goodness here. 2/5!!

and WATT??!! 8/10 card here!

When I said this box was loaded with a variety of stuff, I wasn't kidding.

Tomorrow marks the last show off of this mail day and there will be plenty to see.

REVIEW:2016 Bowman Chrome Baseball Hobby Box+GIVEAWAY (2 BONUS HITS!)

Bowman Chrome is a hobby staple at least in my household.

You combine rookies, prospects, refractors, numbered cards, rookie/prospects autos, memorabilia cards all in one box....how could you not be interested???

This was a bit of an odd break for me of the product as I got pretty luck doubling up my hits in the box. One mini box alone had three.

What were my thoughts overall on the break, well, read on!

In every hobby box of 2016 Bowman Chrome baseball you will find 2 Mini-Boxes with 6 Packs Per Mini-Box and 5 Cards Per Pack. There should be 2 autographs per box on average.

Base cards in the product are simply just the Bowman cards chromed. So if you liked the design in Bowman, this should only be better. The base cards checklist includes current MLB veterans and 2016 rookies like the Gary Sanchez I pulled. Seager was in my box as well.

There are 100 cards to collect in the base set including key rookie cards of Corey Seager, Gary Sanchez, Kenta Maeda, Julio Urias, Nomar Mazara, Jameson Taillon, Miguel Sano, Blake Snell, Byung-Ho Park, Tyler White, Aaron Nola, Kyle Schwarber, Michael Fulmer, Stephen Piscotty, Trea Turner, Jose Berrios, Trevor Story, Luis Severino, Michael Conforto, Albert Almora, Greg Bird, and Max Kepler.

Prospect cards also have the same design besides the upgraded Chrome look.

There are also 100 cards to collect in this set.

Well, it's chrome, so you gotta have those refractor parallels! All chrome refractors are numbered and don't come aplenty. Two things I think are huge upgrades and gives added value.

1st prosepect is an Orange parallel #d to 25 and the Fernandez is /150

Other refractors not found in my box include...
  • Purple Refractor: sequentially numbered.
  • Green Refractor: sequentially numbered.
  • Gold Refractor: sequentially numbered.
  • Red Refractor: sequentially numbered to 5.
  • SuperFractor: numbered 1/1.
  • Printing Plates: numbered 1/1.
Bowman Scouts' Updates are of those prospects who have made an impact with collectors because of their 2016 performances. Design is simple, but nice.

2015 AFL Fall Stars Game highlights the game's top performers and names. Otherwise known as, collect them before they are hot!

Out Of The Gate is only available in hobby boxes and it's an obvious theme with those rookies who jumped right out of the gate as top ones to watch. We know Trevor Story fell into that category. If only he hadn't gotten injured it would have been fun to see what may have been.

Refractors that Never Were was the only insert I didn't pull. They showcase reprinted Bowman cards of retired greats who never received Bowman refractors. There are also autographed versions.
Now onto the hits!

The usual box pulls are the Chrome Rookie Autographs. These are all on-card autographs. Mine was a Yankee so that's good, however, can't say I know the name but I also didn't know Gary Sanchez either. This was my pull from the first mini box.

It's chrome so you are likely to have refractor parallels. Here those are:
  • Refractor
  • Blue Refractor: sequentially numbered.
  • Green Refractor: sequentially numbered
  • Gold Refractor: sequentially numbered.
  • Orange Refractor: sequentially numbered to 25
  • Red Refractor: sequentially numbered to 5
  • SuperFractor: numbered 1/1
  • Printing Plates: numbered 1/1
My next pull is a toughie to land, a Bowman Scouts Update autograph. This one is numbered to 199 and these fall at 1:543 odds. Not a shabby player I pulled for my first pull of the second mini box. However, it's a sticker auto which doesn't fit with the prospect autos being on-card.

I believe these also have refractor parallels but I can't find the info on those yet. Will update when I do.

To my surprise in the next pack, it was thick and had this nice looking relic card along with the sticker authentication on it. Double bonus I think.

You can find game used hats, bases and bat pieces.

This is a base version /99and I assume of a hat or jersey and these fall at a tough 1:626 odds.

There are parallels to find as well,
  • Orange Refractor: sequentially numbered to 25.
  • SuperFractor: numbered 1/1.
And my final pack had yet another pull.  This one is on-card but not chromed. A 2015 All American Game autograph that was the toughest pull of the box at 1:1,083 packs. These are today's biggest prospects that were signed while they were still in high school.
Parallels include:
  • Green Refractor: sequentially numbered.
  • Gold Refractor: sequentially numbered.
  • Orange Refractor: sequentially numbered to 25. HOBBY BOX ONLY!
  • SuperFractor: numbered 1/1.
Other tidbits in Bowman Chrome are hobby boxes that will also feature Prospect Blue Shimmer Refractor Hot Packs. More shiny=More goodness.
Overall Thoughts:
Well, even before I doubled my hits, I was thinking that the product was solid for the price. Looking at the fact you pay that price for basic Bowman hobby box if not more for only one hit and some parallels, finding two autographs with all of the other fun options in Bowman Chrome makes this a bigger winner over it's brother product.

Bowman Chrome may not be for everyone though it makes me sad to think that. But, it's definitely for those who love shiny stuff and especially prospecting. Even set collectors may even find it fun with such a small base set and small prospect set.

Now time for the giveaway!

One bonus winner will win the MadBum and Fernandez refractors!
