REVIEW:2016 Topps Five Star Baseball+GIVEAWAY

Topps Five Star is a product is a product I haven't ever had the chance to open before. I have picked up singles, but never a box.

So let's see my rip of one. You gotta read on!

Boxes of 2016 Topps Five Star baseball run roughly $125 and each box comes with one pack with two cards. Each card will be a signed on-card autograph. So it's a high-end gamble for sure.
The base autographs such as this Sonny Gray I pulled, actually it's a parallel but a base card version, feature rookies, veterans and retired MLB players. The Sonny Gray I pulled is a Rainbow Parallel that's numbered to 25.

Other parallels in the base Five Star autographs to find are....
  • Gold Parallel/50
  • Emerald Parallel/5
  • Five Star Parallel numbered 1/1
My second pull of the box, the better of the two is a Golden Graphs Purple Parallel numbered to 25 of Nomah. This is a beautiful card. The gold signature is so snazzy.

Other parallels are...
  • Blue Parallel #'d to 20
  • Green Parallel #'d to 15
  • Gold Parallel #'d to 10
  • Orange Parallel #'d to 5
  • Red Parallel #'d 1/1
Other autographs not found in my box are...
Silver Signatures are signed in silver instead of the gold.  These just like the gold come with parallels of:
  • Purple Parallel #'d to 25
  • Blue Parallel #'d to 20
  • Green Parallel #'d to 15
  • Gold Parallel #'d to 10
  • Orange Parallel #'d to 5
  • Red Parallel #'d 1/1
Cut Signatures has the best players of all-time and are all numbered 1/1.

Five Star Silhouetted Batter Logo Patch Autographs is 50 MLB players featuring an MLB Silhouetted Batter Logo Patch and an autograph. Every card is #'d 1/1. I have seen these in previews and they are eye catchy to say the least. Just follow the link I will provide later on.

Five Star Autographed Jumbo Patches is a premier list up to 25 MLB players with each card featuring a Jumbo Jersey Patch piece and an autograph. No card will be #'d higher than 25 and comes with the following parallels,
  • Gold Parallel - #'d to 10
  • Rainbow Parallel - #'d to 5
  • Five Star Parallel - #'d 1/1
Heart of a Champion: is new to Five Star, these are autographs  signed by MLB players who have had memorable Postseason performances and no card will be #'d higher than 25. They also come with Inscription Parallels that are #'d 1/1.

If you are interested, I have put the checklist for the product HERE.

Also, if you are interested, here is a gallery of some of the other pulls you can find, HERE.

Overall, a bit of a tough break for the price. The Sonny Gray seems to go for $10-$20 on eBay and the Nomar goes for roughly $30. Not quite the $125 the box costs. I have seen worse breaks and I have seen better ones and even great ones. Believe me, before I do these reviews, I do tons of research before I post them as reviews can sometimes take me up to 2 hours. I want to have you guys informed as much as I can.

The big positives from this are the cards are beautiful, they are 100% signed on-card and the checklist has some big names on it. If you are a roll the dice type of collector and like to gamble, why not take a swing and try for a hit here. The cards really are stunning. However, if you are more of the bunting type, it's probably best to only get singles or buy into a box break as you just never know what you will get. Once again, it's that way with any product you open and even more so with the higher-end stuff.
GIVEAWAY TIME!
The above card or cards will be featured in a future Topps promo I will be putting together that I am very excited about. Stay tuned for those details soon.

WINNER Of The 2016 Topps Heritage David Wright Card

Not a bad turnout on my new contest method. I think it gives you all a better shot at winning the card especially those who may not have won before. I also like that it gives you control of your destiny as I know the randomizer can be evil at times. I have fallen victim as a loser many times to that. But, that doesn't mean some of these contests still won't be run through random as I will mix it in occasionally.

So here is the number reveal on the 2016 Topps Heritage High Numbers Contest for the David Wright jersey card. Nobody guessed it right, but someone did get within 23 and didn't go over and that person is....

Project Pedro Trade Recap Part 15:Plated

October has officially been named, Cards I Got From Project Pedro Blog Month.
Okay, I have many PC's. Some you see as obvious ones like NY Giants. Some, not so much as I don't speak of them often. Well, that's because they are 1/1's.

I collect Printing Plates and have for some time. I have roughly 20 or so (through trades and pulls) making it a small PC but a fun side one. I don't feel they make the same impact or have the same value they used to in the hobby, but I still like them. It's where every card begins.

Project Pedro had four to offer and I took all of them. Today I am showcasing just two as the other two are autographed versions which will come up soon.

My first plate is a good addition of former Panthers and current Packers DE/OLB Julius Peppers. I think this one may be the most impressive looking one I have since it's framed. I hadn't seen one like this before.

My second is of former Vikings and many other teams QB Christian Ponder. Not the best player, but a plate is a plate.

Still more to come on this trade including a biggie at the end.

For today, let me know your thoughts on Printing Plates and whether you collect them or not in comments.

It's About Time....

Finally.

After 8 days of wondering where my other card was in my trade with @JGfan24ever because of an USPS forwarding error, it showed me an update on Wednesday and was in my hands yesterday. It had disappeared like Sterling Shepard the last couple of games.

Speaking of Sterling Shepard, finally got in hand my very first NY Giants autograph of him and my second overall autograph. Not to mention, my very first memorabilia card of him to in this combo.

There was also something a bit funky about the swatch on this card. It appears there is a Y bulge in the swatch. Now, at first I thought maybe a wrinkle from when the swatch was put in but it was really hard under the Y like a rock. The back of the card shows no damage so it's not like something had been attempted to shove through it but something has to be under it or maybe it's just a seam from the jersey or a nicer patch on the opposite side. Will never know but it's a pretty unique first in my collection.

So before I continue on and give you a guys a hobby topic with this card, first I must thank @JGfan24ever, again for the sweet Sterling Shepard card and trade. I look forward to making future deals with you.

Second, what's the longest you had to wait from the USPS for a package that either got forwarded or lost in the mail?

Third, what do you think is up with my patch?

Leave your thoughts below!

Project Pedro Trade Recap Part 14: Finally Added

October has officially been named, Cards I Got From Project Pedro Blog Month.

I haven't collected Rueben Randle as must as of recent since his cut from the Giants which was then followed by a cut by the Eagles so it seems his career is on the downhill. However, when this card came up for conversation in our trade....
I grabbed it for Randle 104 and finally landed my Sp Authentic rookie.

I feel Sp Authentic is THE rookie other than Contenders (which I don't own for Randle yet either) to own. Two iconic popular brands that were carried over from the 90's.
I had been trying for years to get this into my Randle collection and here it was waiting in a trade the whole time. Funny how things turn out. It's just too bad he no longer plays for the Giants.

Thoughts on today's card and let me know which product you think is the KING of rookie cards below in comments!

Project Pedro Trade Recap Part 13:Newton's Law, Gotta Own A RC Auto

October has officially been named, Cards I Got From Project Pedro Blog Month.

By now, you have seen quite the gallery, but you are probably wondering where the BAM went after I kicked off this series with a huge card and mentioned there was more to come.

Well, I thought I would post another as I am saving the best card for last.

You know what rights with Bam right, yes CAM!

Last years NFL MVP and a guy who helped lead the Panthers to Super Bowl 50, now makes his new home in my rookie autograph collection.

It's my first rookie auto of his and I think the card looks really nice with the clean crystal-clear photography. I am just hoping he continues to lead the Panthers and continues to play well and not flop now (as I am sure we all hope with any rookie auto we pull or trade for) that I own this. This year isn't looking good so far as his offensive line forgot how to protect him.

Have you ever traded for a rookie auto with a good value then the player flopped along with the value? Who was it? Let me know, and try not to scare me, in comments!

Project Pedro Trade Recap Part 12:Dwayne Signed It

October has officially been named, Cards I Got From Project Pedro Blog Month.

I am always in the search of Upper Deck's Sweet Spot autographs no matter who they are. I just love the look of these even though I do worry about how well the autographs hold up as years pass.

So when we had discussed the trade and this card popped up in his gallery of current Giants WR/KR Dwayne Harris, I without hesitation accepted it. To me, this was two wins in one.

How many of you are fans of the Sweet Spot autographs like this? Let me know and tell me your favorite one in comments!

Project Pedro Trade Recap Part 11:Setting The Edge

October has officially been named, Cards I Got From Project Pedro Blog Month.

Other than viewing Project Pedro's blog for his #CheapWaxWednesday posts, I also view them to pick out cards I may try to trade for later on.

This one I had my eye on for awhile. Having been a fan of Spx, 90's cards, 90's autographs and key rookies from that era, it only made sense that I needed to have this auto that he pulled from a box of 1999 Spx football:

The auto is a bit sloppy and doesn't fit on the card well, but it's on-card and the design is sharp. And it's Edge James, can't go wrong with that either.

Let me know your thoughts on today's card addition and let me know your best auto of the 90's you own in comments.

Project Pedro Trade Recap Part 10:1997 Absolute Beginnings Football Hobby BoxBreak

October has officially been named, Cards I Got From Project Pedro Blog Month.

For the first break from the lot of 90's boxes I got in this trade, I will kick if off with my most looked forward to break of the group that sadly turned out to be the worst break of them,1997 Playoff Absolute Beginnings.

Seems like an uninviting way to lead you guys to read on, but I it was the brutally honest truth.

1997 Absolute Beginnings football is a product I busted a few packs of back then but not an overabundance of as pack price was a bit high for me. I did really like the design of the base cards and as a younger collector, the Chip Shots were pretty cool. Boxes run pretty high still with about $50-$65 each. There are some tough valuable high-end pulls to find, but, they are a bit outta reach. Isn't that the way today's boxes are to though?

With a few Rodney Hampton needs in here, I thought it was worth the risk anyways to try and fill some needs.

I had never seen one of the box toppers before as I bought only packs, but I had seen the smaller version of their pennants they put in other products. I think makes for a great box topper.
There are also autographed versions as well that fall 1:19 boxes. Mine wasn't one of those.

The front of the pennant. Honestly, I was hoping it was Rodney Hampton as it was one of my missing pieces. But, it's still cool either way.

The base set is a fun design with each card featuring a foil board map in the background showing each full-colored featured players "beginning". Such as Dan Marino when he played for Pitt.

The base cards also have 3 levels of collecting. Green fall 4 per pack. Blue one per pack and red fall about 1:2 packs replacing one of the green. It seems Red has the better of the players in the set like Favre, Marino and Rice.  The positive is I got those players and I did get most of the key rookies from the set including Warrick Dunn and Tony Gonzalez.

Now onto the inserts I pulled. This will be quick.

Unsung Heroes fall 1:12 packs and are pretty bland when it comes to design. Nothing big here for names either as they are Unsung Heroes for a reason.

And now onto those aforementioned Chip Shots that are like Poker Chips with NFL players. I got a good mix of players including stars, just not the Hamptons I needed. There are a variety of colors to collect for each player as well. Makes for an added chase.

Overall, for the price of the box, it just didn't have enough. I do like the base set and may chase down the rest of my needs once I have time to sit down and put things together. But, the pulls were very lacking here.

What do you guys think of my first break? Did you bust any back in the 90's? Now? Comment below!

REVIEW:2016 Topps Heritage Minors+AUTO GIVEAWAY!

I can honestly say I haven't ever busted a hobby box of Topps Heritage Minor League before as I strictly have stuck to hobby packs in the past. So I was curious how a full hobby break would go.

I guess 2016 was a good year to start as here are some highlights to this years:
  • For the first time ever, Topps Heritage Minor League Baseball will have ON-CARD autos of the biggest MiLB stars.
  • This year's release will pay tribute to Topps' 1967 design just like it's MLB counterpart
  • A more friendly price point and configuration.
So let's see how it went. You know what to do, READ ON!

In each box of 2016 Topps Heritage Minors is 18 Packs with 8 Cards Per Pack. Boxes run a bit cheaper than the MLB version at $50 and comes with 2 hits including one on-card autograph and one relic card.

The base cards as I stated above, use the 1967 Topps design. I think these look great with the combo of the minor league uniforms. Makes them look really authentic.

There is a 200-card base set, including a replication of the 1967 League Leaders cards.

Just like in 1967, the subsets of Batting Leaders and Pitching Leaders are included.

The base set also includes Variations that are easy to define. I just didn't find any to show you.

And with any Topps product or any product in general, there are base cards parallels to be found.
  • - Blue Border Parallel /99
  • - Peach Border Parallel /25.
  • - Black Border Parallel numbered 1/1.
  • - Printing Plates numbered 1/1.
I pulled 3 Blue Border parallels.

There isn't much for insert content in Heritage Minors as opposed to the MLB version, but I am not opposed to that as sometimes products use inserts as fillers. The design of the inserts and the Topps Sticker insert cards look great paying homage to the 1967 Topps stickers with an insert (not actual stickers as I tried to peel them before doing my research).

Here are the 1967 Topps Sticker Insert

Includes Mascots!

MINOR MIRACLES: Highlighting the most miraculous Minor League Baseball performances.

Other inserts not found in my box are....
BASE CARD MYSTERY REDEMPTIONS: These are a limited mystery redemption for a base card of a top 2016 MLB Draft pick in his MiLB uniform. Seems kind of an odd insert, guess I would have to see what they look like and why they were added. I mean, it's a base card.

"MAKE YOUR PRO DEBUT" PROMOTION cards you should find two per box of. This once-in-a-lifetime MiLB experience is available exclusively through Topps Heritage Minor League Baseball! I haven't scratched my cards yet to see if I won but will soon!

Just look at what the 2015 winner got to do with the Durham Bulls:
  • Received his own locker in the Bulls clubhouse, fully equipped with a game uniform and equipment
  • Participated in pre-game warm-ups and batting practice
  • Presented the lineup card at home plate
  • Threw the ceremonial first pitch
Don't tell me that's not cool. Here is what those cards look like:

Now onto the hits.

My first hit is an Clubhouse Collection of an upcoming star in Clint Frazier.

There are parallels to these as well:
  • Peach Parallel numbered to 25.
  • Black Patch Parallel featuring a multi-color jersey patch and is numbered 1/1.
Other relic finds not in my box are coin relics. I know some think of these as gimmicky, but I really dig em! I think my stamp/coin of Griffey I traded for was probably my favorite pickup so far this year for JR.

67 MINT Relics are new to this years product. They feature an MiLB stars alongside a U.S. nickel from 1967.

These have parallels of:
  • Peach Quarter Parallel - showcasing a 1967 U.S. quarter. Sequentially numbered to 25.
  • Black Quarter Parallel - showcasing a 1967 U.S. quarter. Numbered 1/1.
My autograph pull was a Real One Autograph on-card. These are just signed on there base cards.

Just because I didn't hit a big winner on my auto, doesn't mean he won't become one and it doesn't mean some of the money guys aren't in here, take a look:

Key Prospect Autographs included in this product are Dansby Swanson, Alex Bregman, Austin Meadows, Andrew Benintendi, Clint Frazier, Orlando Arcia, J.P. Crawford, Alex Reyes, and Ozzie Albies.

Other autographs not found in my box are:

ATTRIBUTES AUTOGRAPHS: Featuring today's MiLB standouts on a comic book-inspired design!
  • Black Border Parallel - numbered 1/1.
LOOMING LEGACY AUTO: Active MiLB veteran stars will be featured on a design that is so 1960's!
  • Black Border Parallel - numbered 1/1.
Overall, for price point, I think a box is worth a look. I can't call this box a complete dud despite not hitting it big. Cause, this is minor league, any of these guys can step up at anytime and that means it drives the value. I do like the simplicity without the complicated short prints like the MLB version and it's definitely a fun break for those prospectors especially with the 1967 design. I don't think it's for those chasing the big hits, but it has it's fan base and following.

Project Pedro Trade Recap Part 9: NY Giants Takeover!

October has officially been named, Cards I Got From Project Pedro Blog Month.

Today's round of cards don't have to be autographed or have a jersey swatch, sometimes just a simple rookie or numbered card is enough for me.

So there is plenty in here to view.

My first Bear Pascoe rookie is among this group.

Some numbered former Giants here. I will always still be a Jacobs fan. Watching that guy plow down a defender was always fun.

Hakeem Nicks. This guy was so underrated for years. Had one bad year with no TD's for the Giants and all of a sudden can't keep a job. The guy had great hands and brought some memorable moments to especially in the 2012 playoffs when he outdid Atlanta by himself and took down the mighty Packers too. Especially that Hail Mary to end the first half.

This sadly may be my first Gifford Giants card and a nice numbered refractor of Manningham in this two card group too.

To finish it off is a trio of numbered cards including Simms and Eli.

Surprisingly most of these are new and what aren't have numbering so it's still a new PC card.

Speaking of that, if you have two of the same card let's say numbered to 500. Do you consider those two separate cards or one card in your PC count? Let me know your thoughts below!

Tomorrow will mark the first box breakdown from the trade. So stay tuned for that!
