Breakin Wax:1999 Collectors Edge Triumph

I felt triumphant that I was able to pick up a pack of 1999 Collectors Edge Triumph from Jammin JD Sports Cards.

Collectors Edge put out some brilliant products in the 90's and I for one wished they were still around.

Once again my blog didn't upload the pack picture, can't ever figure out why it does that once in awhile, but it does but here is the breakdown. Each pack comes with 8 cards and on the Jammin JD Sports Cards website they go for $2 a pack and can be found HERE

Let's get to ripping!

I pulled some decent players in my box including the great Barry Sanders. Kevin Dyson also brings back some memories of the Music City Miracle. I can still remember watching that live on TV.

JEFF GEOGRE! Thinking I need to call the cardboard cops on this guy.

Rookie card find. Rob Konrad. Not the best but rookies

And a nice looking insert find. Sorry my camera phone took such a poor blurry pic. Either way you can't go wrong with Peyton Manning.

Overall, Barry Sanders, a rookie card and a Peyton Manning insert, let me pay $2 for that any day.  Did I also mention that there is a chance at autographs too????

Breakin Wax:1996 Playoff Illusions Football Pack

When you combine a Playoff product with the look of Chrome and the feel of Bowman's Best, you are going to grab my attention.

That's something that 1996 Playoff Illusions did.

In every pack of 1996 Playoff Illusions football are 5 cards. Packs currently run on the Jammin JD Sports Cards website for $3 and can be found HERE.

Like I said, the base cards have a chrome/Bowmans Best appeal. They are bursting with color and are very catchy to your eyes.

I didn't pull any rookies in my pack but there are some good ones to find like Eddie George and Marvin Harrison, but I did pull a cool insert.

XXXI is an insert that falls 1:12 packs and is die cut across the top. Looks really cool in person. Lucky me as well as I pulled one of my favorite 90's guys in TD. There are really sick parallels to these but at much tougher odds.

Overall, pulled a cool insert so I am happy. I know many of the collectors today wouldn't be as it's not an autograph or jersey/patch card, but those are most likely the ones that didn't collect in this era where you slowly looked at each card skipping that middle one in case it's an insert. Then revisiting it at the end to see if your excitement will explode. Such a more fun time.

Breakin Wax:2000 Impact Football Pack Break

When Jammin JD Sports Cards got these in and whispered the words...."Tom Brady rookie"....I knew I had to grab a pack especially for the price.

Was I lucky enough to find one? Well, read on!

In every pack of 2000 Impact football, you will find 10 cards. You can find these packs for $2 on the Jammin JD Sports Cards website, HERE.

I wasn't a big fan of the base cards. But, if I remember right, this product was one of aims towards children even though it did have some really good offerings. I just don't like the design and they are very flimsy. I did get a pretty good pack of players with Carter, Manning and Bledsoe.

I even got three rookies, one isn't pictured for some reason and it Tee Martin anyways. My best of the group was former Giants Plaxico Burress. So three rookies and no Brady.

I did pull an insert, but these are also 1:1 pack pulls.

For $2 I can't complain and want more of course. With Brady's rookies lurking, which I only want cause of his Hall Of Fame caliber and not because I am a fan of him or the Patriots, and other offerings including autographs, this is a very reasonable buy.

Breakin Wax:1997 Skybox Premium Football Pack Break

Today may be Black Friday to some, but to me, it's Retro Wax Day. I plan on showing off three of my retro pack breaks today from my Jammin JD Sports Cards retro crate break.

So let's kick it off!

If you collected 90's football cards, I would strongly assume you heard of Skybox Premium. I know it was one of my favorites especially between 1995-1999.

Today's break takes us back to 1997.

In every pack of 1997 Skybox Premium football, you will find 8 cards. Packs run for $2.95 and can be found at the Jammin JD Sports Cards site, HERE.

The base cards are full of color. I like how the names are embossed with a shine. Really brings the cards to life. Not a big fan, but a nice find in Sanders here.

I always felt Chris Warren was underrated and didn't get enough attention for his skills. Probably because he played for Seattle which wasn't the best team in the 90's.

1997 had a pretty solid rookie class with the names of Jake Plummer and Warren Dunn, but I got John Allred instead. Oh well. At least it's a rookie card.

And my final card was this letter. If you were lucky enough to spell out the word with them, you sent them in and got a cool autographics prize!
Overall, not a great pack break, but I would definitely do it again. Some of the best 90's cards can be found in here. Tough to pull /50 Rubies parallels and 1:72 odds on Autographics. Can't believe I would put the words of something /50 being a tough pull looking at today's products haha!

Thankfulness 2016

Before I sit down for yet another Thanksgiving dinner today and some football with family, I think about the many things I am thankful for in 2016.

I am first of all and most thankful for a loving God, family, and friends. I feel very blessed.

I am also thankful for a decent NY Giants season.

I am thankful for this blog and the opportunities it has given me in the hobby.

I am thankful for support from great companies and people that work for them such as Topps, Panini America, Cryptozoic, BCW Supplies and Jammin JD Sports Cards.Without them, I wouldn't be able to do what I do with the giving back to the hobby community. Or as much of it as I do. I do give back without their support as well.

I am also thankful for the many bloggers I have gotten to known on here and the many trades I have made with some of them.

I am thankful for the friendships I have grown on social media within the hobby.

I am thankful for you, the readers that makes coming on here every day to post worth my time. Thank you.

I hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving. Eat food, enjoy family and friends and be thankful for everything big and small.

You to can comment below with something or some things you are thankful for!

Have a great day!

Breakin Wax:1996 Select Certified Football Pack Break (Insert Pull)

They sure don't make cards like they used to. In a world of thin base cards and about 100 parallels per product, I think some companies forget that simple and elegant is sometimes better.

That's what I felt Select Certified was.
For some reason my pack picture never updated so here is a breakdown without it. Every pack of 1996 Select Certified football comes with 6 cards and packs run $5 on the Jammin JD Sport Card website that you can find HERE. There are tough parallels to find and other fun inserts. Rookie class with Marvin Harrison, Eddie George and Keyshawn Johnson doesn't hurt either.

Select Certified base cards were full foil board and were thick. I pulled a good player in Elway.

Even got a Giants PC pull in this pack I didn't have.

And on top of that, I pulled a Certified Red, 1:5 packs, of great Chris Carter.
So far up to this point, this was my best pack break from my retro crate. But, I still have two more packs to go and there are reasons I have saved those for last. So stay tuned!

Breakin Wax:1997 Scoreboard Playbook Football Pack

1997 Scoreboard Playbook is surprisingly a product I had never heard of. If it hadn't been for a Jammin JD Sport Card break of a pack I may had never tried it. Of course the chance at a fun looking insert (I Googled Images) and possibly an autograph was also a sure lure-in.

So let's see how I did.

Each pack of 1997 Scoreboard Playbook football comes with 5 cards. Packs run for $2.00 on the Jammin JD Sports Card website and you can find those HERE.

First off, my pack only had only 4 cards. Curse you Score Board. I can't even complain to you now!!

But, at least my pack contained these two. Good players. The base cards are kinda unique as well. A couple different designs depending on position.

Here are the QB designs. Good ole Druckenmiller, found him in about 1,000 packs in the 90's. Only thing cool about him was his name.

Overall, not bad not great in this pack. I am kinda curious what that 5th card could had been. Was it an autograph? Was it an insert? I guess I will never know but I can always be curious and had hoped for the best.

Breakin Wax:1995 Classic Images Live Football Pack

Classic put some decent products out in the 90's but none caught my eye more than their Images line. They are printed on fun etched foil board which created some impressive looking inserts.

There were two versions of the Images football in 1995. One was Live for Retail fans and the other was Limited for hobby fans. Not much is different between the two sets except a few cards.

I gave the Live version here a go.

In each pack of 1995 Images Live, there are 6 "super premium" base cards. Packs marked like this one used to run for $3.99 as I remember buying them for that from the local pharmacy. Yes, cards used to be sold everywhere! They are much better priced now-a-days and on the Jammin JD Sports Cards they are now only $1.75. You can find them HERE

To kick off my gallery, a Bruener rookie and some Bernie Parm.

Jeff George has stalked me throughout my retro crate breaks so far. I never understood why he lasted so long in the NFL either. Wasn't the best QB.

And a solid ending to my pack with rookies of Hugh Douglas and the great Curtis Martin.

$1.75 for good looking cards and some top rookies I can't complain. There are some really nice inserts in the product  to and I wished I could had pulled one in here to show you but maybe that leaves it open for me to go back again or for you to try one for yourself.....

Breakin Wax:1997 Upper Deck Football Retail Pack

Nobody did what Upper Deck could do in the 90's Their photography, innovation and inserts were amazing.

I didn't need any other reason but those to open this up:

1997 Upper Deck retail packs came with 9 cards and one guaranteed Star Attractions insert per pack. Packs are very cheap (it's basically just base and Star Attractions in retail but it's still cool) on the Jammin JD Sports Cards website for only $1.25. You can find those, HERE.

Like I said, base card photography was second to none. There are no borders really, simply leaving you for some nice clean base card action shots.
You can see that throughout this card pack gallery:

I really like this Reggie White shot.

My Star Attractions insert is of Curtis Martin. It's a nice looking silver die-cut and is similar to the foil that Upper Deck used a lot of in the 90's. No complaints from me about it however.

For $1.25 this was what I expected but I am very happy with. I do wish there was more offerings in the retail version, but I think the Star Attractions insert would be a fun set to put together. The base set is still fun as well. So I would be tempted to try a few more.

What are your thoughts?
