HOBBY TOPIC:Player Collecting By Team

Here is how Hobby Topic works if you don't remember (you gotta keep this in mind as the return of Hobby Topic makes it way back)
Leave a comment or thought below on the following.

Today's Topic is Player Collecting By Team.

When you collect by player and that specific player left for another team, do you collect that player just for the one team you originally was chasing him in or do you chase them all?

Please make sure it's clean for our younger audience.

  1. Oh fudge! I sure as sugar collect dudes regardless of uniform, but then again I'm not really a team collector. Sometimes I lose steam when a Padre (my team) I collect moves on to another team (Gyorko, Cashner, Shields, Kemp).

  2. For me it just depends on the player. I have a few D-Backs players that I only collect their D-Backs cards (Travis Lee, Matt Williams, Justin Upton, etc.) and a few others that I collect regardless of the team (Randy Johnson, Ryan Roberts). If Paul Goldschmidt ever leaves the D-Backs, I'm not sure what I would do.

  3. I have personally never understood the concept of collecting only one player or only one team. That doesn't really tell the story of the sport, and that is why I collect. To collect just one player or one team would just feel incomplete to me.

  4. Every PC I had ended when the guy was traded to a different team, with the exception of Matt Harrison. Fortunately (or unfortunately), Harrison hasn't been on any cardboard since he got traded.

So, after considering this, I don't think that really answers the question. I'm of no use here. haha

  5. I am a team-collector (of the Royals), so most of the time when a player leaves via free-agency or trade, I stop collecting their new cards entirely. However, if it is a player that I love who had a long-tenure in KC, I will continue to accumulate his cards after he is gone. So far this has only applied to Mike Sweeney, David DeJesus, and Billy Butler. I am considering expanding that to our recently-traded players (Wade Davis and Jarrod Dyson) since they are #ForeverRoyal due to their roles on the World Series teams these past few years.

  6. Cubs collector here and I have collected many different players through the years. The players that grow on me receive pages in a binder, but I generally only collect cards of them in Cubs garb. If they move on to a different team I'll stop collecting them UNLESS they graduate to earn "favorite player" status. Ryne Sandberg, Kerry Wood and now Daniel Vogelbach have earned this title in my collection and I actively seek out their cards with other teams.

  7. If my team picks up a guy from another team, I'll collect cards of them from before they came to my team. When a player gets traded/cut, though, they're out! (Especially if they leave the Packers and go to the Vikings. Boo. Hiss.)

  8. As I enter my 17th year of collecting Tim Hudson, the uniform is completely irrelevant to me. I'm not really a fan of any particular team but certainly none of the ones he has been on in his career. I do tend to stop collecting players when they leave the Colts, if that helps.

  9. I started out as a team collector but decided I only wanted to collect Hall of Famers from said teams. Since it's rare in the modern era of sports for a player to stick with one team, I am okay if my PC's are in different uniforms.
