REVIEW:2017 Topps MLS (1:441 pull)

2017 Topps Soccer is on the shelves folks and waiting for you to pick up a box or two if you are a fan of the sport or a fan of collecting the sport. This years version tries to stay to it's roots of past releases except for the base design that got a total remake.

Is it a good move? Did I hit it big? Well, you gotta read on!

Each box of 2017 Topps Soccer comes with 24 packs with 8 cards per pack. Boxes will provide 2 autographs and one jumbo relic per and prices per box run on average $75. A typical price you would find for this amount of hits.

The base card design that went from bold and colorful, took a step back to white and player focused. It's not a bad look in my opinion, even though for me, I would have preferred the baseball design here with the added action photography.

The base set is built of 190 cards and contains rookies, under 24, team cards and first cards of league newcomers Atlanta United FC and Minnesota United FC.

As with most Topps releases, there are base card variations to find. I only knew I had one because this card was backwards in the pack which usually means it's a hit. These aren't a one-per-box type of pull anymore either, I think I got 4 in my break last year, these fall at 1:46 packs or basically one-in two boxes.

These have parallels as well.

Parallels are in every product including this one. I pulled three blues /99 that fall 1:7 packs and an orange /25 that falls 1:28 packs. There is also red /10 and black 1/1's to be found.

The inserts this year in Topps MLS are done well. There aren't too many and the designs are solid. This is the way to do inserts instead of over flooding a product. These are Back of the Net that fall 1:4 packs and have parallels to find as well.

Give and Go is a two sided insert that features each team's respective best player combinations. These fall 1:8 packs.

And a new addition is the 1987 inserts. These fall 1:8 packs as well.

All of the above inserts have parallels of orange, red and black.

Now onto the hits.

Up first, the jumbo relic. I would have liked to seen this a bit more jumbo and maybe with some dirt on it. Overall, design isn't bad.

Autographs in this product can be found done in the base card design and have parallels to find as well of Orange, Red and Black like all of the hits.

The big boom of the box came in autograph form of the 1987 design. This card looks awesome signed. I wished it was on-card but still pretty cool. These are found at a tough rate of 1:441 odds and are numbered to 25.
Other hits I didn't find are, Museum Collection MLS Autograph Relics and Faces of the Franchise Autographs.
OVERALL, not a bad break for the price. The Museum Collection autograph relics look nice from what I saw. There are some solid autographs on the checklist to find as well. If you are a fan of soccer or collecting the cards, I would say this is a great place to start. Price isn't shabby either and I felt my hits and insert pulls in this box warrant another break.

Please make sure to take a minute out to thank Topps for providing this box for me to review and to be able to add cards to the MLB Pick Em promotion. Yes, I do know these are soccer, but I really want to pad that lot! Follow Topps on all social media sites and visit their site, as well.

Eli Picks: 2016 Panini Prizm Illumination

Eli's Picks is a segment where Eli himself, well a stuffed Bleacher Creature version, picks his favorite base/insert cards to show off.
Eli decided if I was going to post the Odell Beckham version of this card, that I needed to do his as well.

These cards just pop off the cardboard and look like a 4th of July celebration. This card I got in a trade but I can't remember who it was now.

I was a bit surprised with as many parallels Prizm usually has in their inserts that this one didn't have many levels as well. I think this stunning card could have blown many minds with parallels like tri-color, gold, green, purple, Black Finite, etc.

From my research, I own the only Giants in the insert set so I guess my search for those is no longer needed.

Mail Day Saturday:Reader Mail Day Part THE FINALE

We have finally come to the end of my mail day from Sport Card Collectors reader, Grady M.

Today, I am showcasing all of the hits he sent along in that box that was jammed pack full of inserts and base card goodness. These are just the topping of it all.

Up first, CC. I still like the design on these.

Even though McCann is no longer a Yank or one in this photo, I still like him and I definitely like Gypsy Queen mini relics.

Pineda! My first Yanks relic of his and it comes in the form of the holiday boxes Topps put out in 2016. My first relic from those as well. They look pretty good up close.

Another new Shepard. I expect huge things from this guy next season.

And finally, another rookie I expect to have a huge impact in 2017, Eli Apple.

A huge thanks goes out to my buddy Grady M for the entire mail day that took me months to share. I am still in the works of putting together another package for you that I hope to get out in the next month or so.

Thoughts on my entire mail day or anything from today's welcomed in comments.

BASEically Awesome Part 5: 2014 Topps Prime Football

(It seems my last BASEically Awesome post was out of order, so here we got back to Part 5 today and hopefully stay in order now)

If you are a fan of photography, look no further than Topps Prime. I wished the product was able to be carried on, but we know what those exclusive licenses do.....that's not a topic for today.

One of my favorite years of Topps Prime was 2014. There were some great shots taken all throughout the checklist.

Like this Thomas,

And Fitz breaking a tackle,

Don't miss on tackling LeVeon Bell or you will get burned. Cool throwback uni featured to.

Drew rolls out and continues to throw all over the Bears.

This is just a handful of cards from the 150 card set.  One of my favorites which didn't upload for some reason, was a Cowboys card, yes hard to admit, of Dez Bryant leaping up over Lions defenders for a sick catch. But the photo was done perfectly.

Thoughts on today's product or any of the Topps Prime line are welcomed in comments. Show me your favorite card from the product above.

Wrappers Of Collecting Past:2012-2013 Fleer Retro Hockey

Was there any better revival than Upper Deck's Fleer one? I really can't think of one.

Fleer Retro was released for three sports a few years ago. It was a combination of everyone's favorites from the 90's. Today's wrapper helps brings us back those memories.
Retro had such products like Ex, Fleer, Flair Showcase, Fleer Metal and a few more all wrapped into one awesome product.

I had bought and busted a couple boxes of football in 2014 that landed me PMG's, Precious Metal Gems, of Blake Bortles and Teddy Bridgewater which at the time featured two of the popular rookie QB's. I also busted a box of hockey above which I didn't fair well with.

The box was actually damaged from one of the online retailers that wouldn't replace it after I sent multiple pics. Luckily, UD stepped in and sent me another box which is something that they really didn't have to do.

How many of you busted the hockey Retro version? Any version? How did you do? What was your favorite part? Let me know in comments!

2017 MLB Pick 'Em Prize For May

One month is over in this promo and one prize has been giving away while the other is building up big time with inserts and hits galore! That prize will be for the one who can MLB Pick Em Champ. But, it's never too late to join to be that as some twists and turns later in the game may take place. So spread the word.

Anyways, I posted the picks for the first week of May earlier today. Everyone has a clean slate for the May prize but have their points from April saved for the overall promo in those standings. May and beyond earned points will be added to those.

But, with a clean slate, that means anyone can enter to win this prize pack for the month of May,
A BCW Supplies Card Sorting Tray, very important item to have, and a 2017 Gypsy Queen autograph of Astro Ken Giles.
Good luck to all that enter for May and for those involved overall in the promo!

Sunday's With Rodney:1995 Pro Line Classic Series II Printers Proof

Pro Line was one of my favorite releases in 1995. It had a down-to-earth simple design that was  brought out some full-colored action photography.

When I look at today's Hampton card, I don't look at the value or the fact it's a parallel, I look at the bold colors that are jumping off the cardboard.

There were 75 cards in this parallel set that fell at a rate of 1:18 packs. So you only see one-per-box. They were an obvious parallel with the bold words Printers Proof done in shiny foil across the front.

If you would like to help me narrow down my search for all of the Rodney Hampton cards in the universe and would like to donate some you have dusting around your house, check my wantlist HERE and see if you have something I need.  I am a little more than half way there but you never know what you may have that I don't.
Thoughts on today's card is welcomed in comments!
