The Griffey Top10

Like many other bloggers, I am entering the fun contest over at Collecting Cutch in which you have to post your Top 10 cards of your favorite player in a post. This was not easy for me. As many of you know, I have many players with many great cards I collect but in the end it comes down to two that are the biggest of all in Ken Griffey Jr and Rodney Hampton.

In th eend, since this is a baseball contest, I decided to go the route of baseball and show off my Top 10 Griffeys I currently own. I do have more coming up in a few trades, but I only want to do what I have in hand now.

All of these I have posted on here before, but, you may have forgotten about. They also aren't all memorabilia as most of my Griffey's are base/inserts. I did include some key pieces however.

10. I acquired this card from the one and only Junior Junkie because I loved the photo.

9. This photo has always caught my eye. Quite the bubble!!

8. These aren't easy to find, I just like the uniqueness of the item.

7. Speaking of Christmas, these ornaments are really cool. Shiny and die-cut leads the way!

6. One of my favorite pre-rookie minor league cards

5. The Top 5 starts with some Dufex. Such a cool action shot and the dufex really blows it up.

4. Is my only game used baseball card of him

3. Griffey, Yankees, and cool designed stadium seat. Yup. Wrapped all into one card.

2.One of my three autos. But, this was my first one I got in a trade with Project Pedro Blog.

1. How can this not be number 1. I would be crazy not to have it be. Some days I wished I had more than my one copy.

Well, there you have it. My Top 10 Griffey cards currently. Now I pass the challenge onto you. Let's see your Top 10 of your favorite player.

Thoughts on mine are welcomed below!

Top Shelf Hits!

I haven't been in a box break in over three years so time was due that I would try one out again. With so many options out there and new breakers daily, there were plenty of choices to choose from. But, for me the choice was a bit simpler. I wanted to go with someone I knew for a bit, someone who was trustworthy, and someone who had a good following that gives back to the hobby. That breaker or as they call themselves, the card concierges is Top Shelf Breaks.

I also think for the first time I sat down and watched each break I was in and was fairly entertained. I have been in 4 breaks overall and scored 3 out of 4 times. The one lonely loss was 2017 Donruss baseball box break. Loss just means I didn't pull a numbered insert or hit which is what they ship.

One of my break shipments haven't arrived yet, so here are the first two I did well with.

I first was in a box of 2017 Contenders Draft football that scored me this auto of Adam Shaheen who was drafted by the Bears in the 2nd round to be their TE. Not bad.

My other two hits I landed in was in a 2017 Diamond Kings baseball divisional break. I owned both the NL East and the AL West which landed me both of the hits in the box.

Barreto wasn't someone I had heard of, but a nice looking card still.

However, the crown jewel to my breaking was this card. Sweet Diamond Cuts auto card /49 of Gary Carter. Cards even sicker in person. This is my first cut auto I own so pretty stoked about that.
If you wanna pull some hits like I did or even bigger "monsters" as they have pulled plenty, check them out HERE. You can also follow them on Twitter for break updates and for giveaways. Good people. They even sent extras too.

I will post my next round of hits when they arrive so you can see a really nice parallel score from 2017 Score football. In the meantime, comments on today's mail day are welcomed and let me know if you have broken with them before.

WHAT'S IN THE BOX?!: Lego My Basketball

Here's the next edition of What's In The Box, graded school handmade box edition,

We look at some Legos. No, I am not a builder by any stretch. I probably couldn't even handle doing a 12 piece Lego set the right way. Not my thing.

But, 10 years ago or maybe more, my nephew had some basketball player ones with Upper Deck cards for sale at his yard sale already put together of course :0. I saw cards, which players they were and couldn't say no so I scooped them up and must have tucked them away in here as I forgot about them til I opened this box.

The three players I scooped up were Tim Duncan, Pau Gasol and Ray Allen. I have always been a fan of Duncan's and Allen isn't too shabby either.

I didn't know much about the items or why they did them, so I did some research on them to see.

These three-players actually came together in a set back in 2003 and the Upper Deck cards that were included were special trading cards in a Lego game that these sets were for. Each set also came with one gold foil card which explains the Allen being gold.
I guess these sets also had some randomly packed autograph cards of Kobe Bryant, Jason Kidd, Paul Pierce, or Kevin Garnett. How cool is that??
I think this also helps grab kids attention as it's 2 hobbies in one. Great idea by UD and Legos to combine. Maybe this aspect should be used again.

Thoughts on today's find can be left in comments!

Mantle's Legendary Lumber

As I posted earlier this week, I am a tad behind on mail day posts hence the double dose of posts this week that may run into next week til I am caught up.

Today's posting comes from an Easter contest win from the people of TCSP. As soon as I saw this card, I knew I had to try to win it. It's Mantle, a jumbo relic and just cool.

All they needed for an entry was why you would want to win this card and to earn bonus entries, a picture of something Easter-y. I took pictures of hidden Easter baskets I had for my nieces and nephews and tweeted them out for the bonus entries. Sadly, there were no cards added to the baskets as I am the lone collector in the family other than my dad.

So let's take a gander at this Mantle card. I know some collectors may question it's authenticity coming from an unlicensed company that flies under the radar, but, I guess til we can prove it's not real, we just have to believe it is. I know I really hope it is.

According from the back of the card this swatch is from a bat used in the 1967 season.
One thing I will say about TSCP, they put out some nice looking products for an unlicensed company. They also have a nice printing system with plastic coated base cards that have that brand new scent no matter how long you have owned them.
A big thanks goes out to TCSP for this sweet Mantle card add and I welcome your thoughts on this card in comments!

Wrappers Of Collecting Past:1991 Fleer Baseball

Don't worry, the bright yellow doesn't shine through the wrapper. You will not need to shield your eyes from this.

I think 1991 Fleer is just one of those early 90's products you loved and hated at the same

You sometimes forget how much you actually enjoyed the yellow and then after sorting the cards with sunglasses on you remember that maybe you really don't like it. One thing I think that all collectors can agree on with the product, was the Fleer Pro-visions insert set. Those were pretty stunning for the time and still are today.

I think another thing we can all agree on just by looking at the pack, is the price. Who doesn't miss those days???!! However, I don't miss the "wax pack" style wrapping.

Before closing, I should also mention that this is a sealed pack I may bust and showcase on here on a rainy day. So keep your eyes peeled for that and let's hope for a Provision!

Thoughts on your memories of 1991 Fleer baseball are welcomed below.

REVIEW:BCW Trading Horizontal Card Dividers

For years and years I have always used whatever I could find to separate my cards in 800 ct or smaller boxes. I have used wrappers, index cards, cut up pieces of paper and so on. They worked but weren't always effective as they would bend, break, tear or fall over. Finally I have found a solution for this, they are called BCW Horizontal Trading card dividers.

First of all, they fit fully into single-row card boxes so I can use them for any size box. They also have write-on index tab that fold over to make the divider more visible in boxes. They also won't bend, fold, fall over, etc without some serious effort. They are not made out of cardboard or whimsy plastic, it's a 30 point polyethylene plastic that would take some effort to fix.

I haven't fully put these in place yet in my card boxes, because I wanted to give them a practice go first and decide which boxes I wanted them in first. But, here is an example of my practice run:

The tabs fold back once you are ready for them to. I wasn't ready to do mine yet as I haven't written on them and I think it will be easier to write on them being flat.

If you have the same problems as I did with keeping cards separated in boxes and not knowing what to use to divide them, I suggest giving these a go. They seem to be a very solid product. You can find them on the BCW Supplies website, HERE

Let me know your thoughts on these below and if you have the same issues I did.

The Only Entrant Part 2

On Monday, I posted Part 1 of my mail day contest win from Lingua Sports Cards blog that I still suggest you check out, HERE if you haven't yet.

Today, is the final part of the mail day. This one is a bit shorter, but packs a punch!

Up first, a new Bull Durham card for my Non-Sports PC

Refractors! New Tanaka and Ricard adds to my refractor PC. Can't go wrong with the guy in the middle either.

Die Cut. I dig these inserts from Stadium Club and can't go wrong with The Wiz!

One of the more dominant pitchers in baseball relic from Ginter. Not a bad add.

And to finish this up, some really cool medallions of top notch players. I didn't own a single one of these til now. It's amazing how heavy these cards actually are. More and more the manu relics are growing on me. I have actually preferring these more than the jersey cards now.
As you can see, it was a great win for me. Tons of new PC items added. So if you haven't checked out Lingua Sports Cards yet, do so. You never know when they may do another epic contest like this and you wouldn't want it left again to an Only Entrant. See what I did there?
If you have Twitter, you can follow them at @linguaspcards as well. A big thanks goes out to them for this awesome mail day.

Thoughts on my mail day are welcomed in comments!

BASEically Awesome Part 6:1996 Pinnacle Zenith Football

There is no other product, except maybe Spx, in the 90's that brings me back more memories than 1996 Zenith football.

I remember my father and I hitting up the LCS and the card show ripping open tons of packs of it. Not only because of the cool looking inserts, I hit a big card at the time in the Z-Team of Emmitt Smith from the card show I had multiple offers immediately for, but because of the base cards.

There was no denying I loved the base card design. It had a high-end gloss and appeal all around. I would almost call this the first version of UD or Panini Black. It combines the same black and gold elements that look outstanding together. The floating Wilson football in the background and full colored player in the forefront was so eye appealing.

The only thing I didn't like about the product was the rookie subsets. One, they weren't rookies. Two, it was off-base a little from the design. It wasn't bad, but I think the "moon" wasn't needed in the background.

I at one-point had the base set but since then it was misplaced over the years so I am trying to build it once again. As for the Emmitt I mentioned above, I traded that away soon after the card show. It may be one of my biggest regrets yet. The card isn't worth a ton and obviously I don't like the Cowboys, but the card looked great and it was a memory I wished I still physically had.

The card is actually in my Top 5 on my overall Wantlist. Doesn't seem the pack version is as easy to find as the promo version which I don't want. If you have a 1996 Zenith Z-Team Emmitt Smith non-promo card and want to pass it along I would definitely make it a good home :)

Thoughts on today's product are welcomed in comments!

REVIEW:2017 Panini Contenders Draft Picks Football 2-Box Break+GIVEAWAY!!

As I have stated many times, I have yet to open one-single pack of anything 2017 football. So I had little info on products this year. That had to change at some point didn't it?

Well, it did.

Here is a 2-box break of 2017 Panini Contenders Draft Picks and make sure you keep on reading as there is a pretty sweet giveaway at the end!
In every box of 2017 Panini Contenders Draft Picks football there are 18 packs per box with 6 cards per pack. You should find 6 autographs, yes 6, per box along with the following amount of inserts:
The base set is only 100 cards deep so it wouldn't be overly challenging to put together for you set collectors. The base set consists of players from today and yesterday featured in their college uniforms.

There are parallels to be found as well. This Kirk Cousins is a cracked ice parallel /23 I found in the first box. Pretty slick looking don't ya think??
There is also, Bowl Ticket /99, Championship Ticket 1/1, and Printing Plates 1/1.
There is an overabundance of inserts per box falling 2-3 per pack on average. The designs and themes are solid, but I feel there is a little too many and that they get lost in the midst of the product. It was becoming redundant to see them pack after pack that after awhile I gave up looking at names and focused on autograph hunting. Not something I usually do. I would like to see them cut down to maybe one per pack and maybe even do a few parallels with each to throw something else into the mix.
However, it's good for college team and player collectors.

Now onto the part that you guys have been waiting for....the pulls!
There are 185 autographed tickets to find in this product so it's very deep. You could find that late round or undrafted superstar hiding within. Look what Dak did last year.  They come with the following parallels, Blue Foil, Red Foil, Bowl Ticket /99 or /25, Cracked Ice /23, Playoff Ticket /15, Championship Ticket 1/1, and Printing Plates 1/1
There are also 47 variation cards to find as well. They are pretty much impossible to spot and there are no signs so I suggest you go to Cardboard Connections post HERE so you could easily spot them.

Box 1 provided a top pick in Soloman Thomas from the 49ers and a very nice /15 Playoff Ticket auto parallel of Darreus Rogers from USC. Chris Wormley is a nice find as well and should help the Ravens defense.

Box 2 was a tad weaker with the best find being a Noah Brown Variation Bowl Ticket parallel /99. However, Travis Rudolph who was signed by my G-men was a nice find as well.

Other pulls not found in my box include, OLD SCHOOL COLORS SIGNATURES, ALUMNI INK, PASSING GRADE SIGNATURES and RUSH WEEK SIGNATURES. So there is veteran and legend content included in this product as well.

OVERALL, well, if you are a die-hard college collector and fan, this product should satisfy you. It's too early to judge value per box on these as any of the rookies that were found in this box could be superstars. Not many big names here, but there are some mixed in. Time can only tell how valuable these two boxes will be later on.

Now time for a pretty sick giveaway!

To win this 4 card autograph lot, Soloman Thomas SF 49ers RD 1 Pick 3, Chris Wormley Balt Ravens RD 3 Pick 74, Budda Baker Arizona Cardinals RD 2 Pick 36 and Marcus Williams RD 2 Pick 42 of the New Orleans Saints you must read below:

  3. Random winner will be chosen from all comments. I haven't decided on how to do the draw yet.
  4. One Winner takes home all 4 autographs.
  5. Card may be shipped PWE. I like to forewarn on this.

The Only Entrant Part 1

(Bloggers Note: I am so far behind in mail day postings as I was recently hammered with trades and other incoming items. In my move to ditch all segments, I have taken all of my drafts and have scheduled all 100+ of them over the next few months. By August, all segments will be gone and I can free bird blog like this post again as I prefer to do that. The point of this bloggers note is to let everyone who recently sent me a mail day that I do plan on posting them when I can sneak them in with the already scheduled posts. Sorry for the delay but without further ado, here is today's bonus posting)

As most fellow bloggers know, I am always on the lookout for new sites or blogs to read and check out. Thanks to the word spreading of Beans Ballcard Blog on Twitter I have been able to add quite a few to my daily reading. He takes a few days out of the week and tweets out posts from a ton of blogs. Some I know of, others I don't and add to my list.

One of the most recent ones was Lingua Sports Cards. This is a blog that covers baseball, football and basketball so if you are a fan of any of those go give it a check out, HERE.

Anyways, the post that Bean's had tweeted out was a contest one to win inserts and hits from many Topps retail boxes that they broke recently. Not only was I surprised by winning, but I was surprised I was the only one who entered and was even more surprised by what arrived. If you missed out on this contest, you will have many regrets. I actually had to split this up into two-parts just to cover it all.
Let's take a look at all of the beauty.

Up first, some Topps inserts

Parallels. Both foil and gold.

Wrigley Inserts

I haven't seen these before. Pretty cool additions

Ichiro hits!

Reprint inserts.

Lots of MLB Debut inserts. Don't have any of these players for them.

A new Griffey! Someday I hope to finish this set.

You all know I am a huge fan of First Pitch and these are all new. Double bonus!

Blurry pic, but Heritage and Ginter inserts

Some Gyspy Queen this time with a numbered frame parallel

Haven't ever seen one of these, cool. Even though Zack looks like he should posing for a shampoo commercial with it blowing in the breeze.

Some mini madness.

You must be by now saying, why didn't I enter. Am I correct???

Now onto some Bowman prospects

Then some chrome prospects

and finally to end this part 1, some shiny things. Devers has a bright future.
This is only a part of the mail day and it's already insane. I have more to show so come back Wednesday to see the finale!
