The Old Man And The Kid

Earlier this week a friend of mine tagged me on Twitter stating there were some cards up for grabs so who wouldn't go check that out.

I was only the second to inquire and so glad I did.

@PuckJunk from puckjunk.com had thrown up some of his doubles up for grabs for those who wanted them. I spotted two cards immediately I knew I needed.

A new Griffey Jr for the PC from the 2017 National

And a new add to my growing non-sport PC, Stan Lee. It's my first card of this legend. I hope to land his autograph someday.

Puck Junk also tossed in this fun read and a cool throwback looking business card.  I never thought about upgrading my PWE's like this. Maybe I should.

A big thanks goes out to Puck Junk for the PC adds. Go give him a follow if you haven't yet!

The Origins Of A Cardboard Addict

I think I have mentioned my new blog on here before, but if you missed my news , I have started a blog for what I consider is the prequel to SCC.

What I post on there is a lot longer then I do on here, has more personal details, and my origin of collecting. It will take you from 1994 all the way to today. Minus the mail days that will only appear on here.

I don't post on it daily as I don't have time to do both blogs that way, but I do squeeze in posts when I get the chance.

If you are curious by my collecting beginnings, I have the link to today's new post at the bottom of this post.

Let me know your thoughts and please add it to your blogrolls and follow it if you find it interesting.

Thanks in advance!

Origins Of A Cardboard Addict : Feeling Rich

Taking Chances

I have recently begun to explore more trading and taking more chances with new trading partners. That's something I am not usually into. I don't like the risks so I don't put myself out there. But, the last few days I have and pulled off a couple of good trades including today's mail day.

@B_Litch88 put up a couple of nice looking Sterling Shepard autographs on Twitter I just had to get. I couldn't let him just sit there. So I inquired about them and we worked out a trade pretty fast. He was a very reasonable trading partner and I was glad we worked it out as smoothly as we did.

He not only mailed out the Shepards, I will show in a second, he also tossed in some really nice extras I didn't have. The Jennings and Perkins are both /75.

The first Shepard is from Playoff football.

The second has a sick patch and is from Limited. It's also on-card.

A big thanks goes out to @B_Litch88 for the easy trade and I am hoping we can make more down the road. Give him a follow as well as he does giveaways and is always looking to trade.

GIVEAWAY! Win 1 Of 2 PWE Prizes!

When I recently broke some Panini products I mentioned doing a giveaway with some of the cards. Well, that time has finally arrived!

In these 5 envelopes is a mix of 3-5 numbered insert cards and some decent hits. There are 3 chaser cards to be found in the 5 envelopes that I will reveal in just a second. There may be more contests down the road for more of the cards from the breaks so stay tuned for that too.

Envelopes 1, 2 are claimed! The Third winner has not claimed theirs yet but I wanted to get this contest going.
The above envelopes are numbered 1-5. There will be 5 separate contests held over a 5 week span. Each contest will be easy to enter but all will be different.
When a winner is announced, the winner will have their choice of what envelope they would like. Even though I just put them together, I shuffled them and then numbered them so I have no idea which one has the chase cards.
Here are some of the cards you will be chasing.....
/199

400 PANINI REWARD POINTS
/24

 /50

and..../49

  3. SPORT CARD COLLECTORS BLOG OR IT'S OWNER/BLOGGER WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR LOST, STOLEN OR DAMAGED MAIL.

At It Again!

@JGfan24ever has done it again. He has filled my mail box with joy.

This time sending a couple of cards I knew about and some surprises as well.

Up first, Eli! I expect a big season out of him and look forward to seeing him in preseason play I assume next week.

Sick! Die Cut Ken Griffey Jr! I need to do an update on the amount of Griffeys I have. It's almost 100 behind.

Cool looking David Wilson patch. I knew this cards was coming all along, all of the others were surprises. I think this was to go along with our last trade.

And to finish it up, a nice new addition to my non sports PC. Leading man of Supernatural.

A big thanks goes out to @JGfan24ever for his generosity as always. I have begun a pile for our next trade. If you are not following him on Twitter, I really suggest you do. I have said this many times.

I Got POGged!

I have spoke about @NYCollects and his generousness many times on here and this mail day was no different. Well, it was a little different.

@NYCollects recently posted on Twitter he had a bunch of POGs to give away,-you know the game from the mid 90's where you stack a bunch of the cardboard caps, use a hard coated slammer and throw it down on them and the ones that are face up get taken away, the ones that are face down continue in the pile and the first person to turn them all over wins. Sometimes you play the game for keeps and get the keep the POGs from your opponent if you win. You decide that before the game-and nobody else had claimed them. Everyone who reads my blog or follows me on Twitter knows I am very nostalgic so these brought back many memories so I claimed them. I still have mine from that era as well.

So on Saturday this package showed up with many of them. I didn't expect so many. It was very exciting!

Here were just some of my favorites even though I enjoyed them all.

He even put a couple of Slammers in there.

A big thanks goes out to @NYCollects for the mail day. These POGs have a good home now. If you don't follow him on Twitter, I suggest you do, good dude to follow!

Missing Press Pass

It's been a few years since we heard the sad news that Press Pass was closing it's doors forever. It was from a company that made many sport and non-sport cards since the late 90's.

When I got this awesome card I won from a contest with Dub Mentality blog,
it reminded me of how great Press Pass truly was. I know this card doesn't have logos but just look at it. It's one great looking card. Press Pass I thought always did their best with designs and unique products especially for NASCAR. I liked their earlier NCAA football ones before that license got taken away.

A big thanks goes out to Dub Mentality for my first Landry auto. I have been wanting his for some time now. If you haven't checked out his blog yet, please do so!

REVIEW:2017 Topps Chrome Baseball

Topps Chrome has been one of my favorite releases since 1996. It's probably THE ONLY brand I have bought some of every single year, every single release for every sport it has come out for. There is so much draw-in for me and it usually has nothing to do with the autograph hits. Those are just bonuses. To me it's about the base rookie cards and the refractors. But, Topps Chrome means something different to all of us.

Let's see how my break of the RED HOT 2017 edition went.

Every box of 2017 Topps Chrome baseball comes with 24 packs of 4 cards in each. It's been that way for years. Hobby boxes come with 2 autographs per among a variety of inserts and parallels. Boxes because of this red hot rookie class are pushing to to $130 per box and some places much more.

The base cards are the best players of Series 1 and Series 2 including my new PC guy Aaron Judge. Despite his poor second half of the season, I still believe in him.

The base set is 200 cards and has the following key rookies, Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, Yoan Moncada, Dansby Swanson, Andrew Benintendi, Alex Bregman, Carson Fulmer, Hunter Renfroe, Jordan Montgomery, Trey Mancini, Ryon Healy, Jharel Cotton, Amir Garrett, Yulieski Gurriel, Josh Bell, David Dahl, Tyler Glasnow, and Manny Margot.
I still don't have a Bellinger rookie currently.
There are also base card variations to find in packs as well.

Topps Chrome provides plenty of refractors variety. These are the base versions.

Prism Refractors

Pink, you can barely tell these but the strip behind Renfroe gives it away and a cool looking negative refractor of De LEON.

And my best one of the box, a Blue Wave Refractor /75

Other parallels not found in my box include, Purple Refractor /299, Blue Refractor #/150, Green Refractor /99,Gold Refractor /50, Gold Wave Refractor /50, Orange Refractor /25, Red Refractor /5, SuperFractor 1/1, and Printing Plates 1/1.

Now onto the inserts.
I had always wondered what an iconic older design would look like chromed, well, let me tell you, IT' LOOKS STINKIN AWESOME! These 1987 designs fall 1:6 packs and have versions of Green Refractor /99, Orange Refractor /25, Red Refractor /5, and SuperFractor 1/1.

Freshman Flash look super cool as well. These fall 1:12 packs and have the following parallels, Green Refractor /99, Orange Refractor /25, Red Refractor /5, and SuperFractor 1/1.

This is probably my favorite insert design of 2017 Chrome, Future Stars. Looks really cool and falls 1:8 packs. The following parallels can be found as well, Green Refractor /99, Orange Refractor /25, Red Refractor /5, and SuperFractor 1/1.

Then and Now fall one per box or 1:24 and have the following parallels, Orange Refractor \/25, Red Refractor /5, and SuperFractor 1/1.

Now onto the hits. They were sad ones. My Topps breaks have been a bit tough this year.

At least the autographs are on-card:

OVERALL: Well, this box was a bit tough for the cost. I will say I had fun however as I always do with chrome. I think Chrome is one of those rare products where it's not just about the autograph hits. Sometimes the base card rookies and the parallels are the bigger hits. It's also a product in retail I would suggest over all others because of the value it provides there but for Hobby is a bit tougher. All products come with their risks but if you liked Topps Chrome before in the past, 2017 will not disappoint.

Please make sure to take a minute out to thank Topps for providing this box for me to review and to be able to add cards to the MLB Pick Em promotion.  Follow Topps on all social media sites and visit their SITE, as well.
