Busting Makes Me Feel Good

If you didn't know, I am a huge Ghostbusters fan. The movies and The Real Ghostbusters cartoon.

When Cryptozoic released their Ghostbusters trading cards, I was fortunate to bust a box and did fairly well pulling a pretty sick slime card. However, once I found out they had animation cel cards from the show I watched when I was a kid, I needed one.

So I jumped onto eBay. These only fell 1:36 packs but are 1/1's, prices were quite decent on most and I didn't have the funds to pour a lot in. So I looked for the cheapest version and here it is, for $9 I thought it was a pretty good add even though I don't remember who this character was anymore.

The 915 is on the plastic sleeve as it arrived that way

I hope to add more of these down the road along with more autographs and slime cards. So far, I just have one of each. This product isn't the cheapest in the world to buy per box or get singles of. So as far as chasing each part down in set form, I don't think I can even touch it, but just to add as many as I can of each, I will take that.

Eli Picks:2016 Donruss Dominators

Eli's Picks is a segment where Eli himself, well a stuffed Bleacher Creature version, picks his favorite base/insert cards to show off. This is the first time this segment has been featured here on Sport Card Collectors. I will see how it goes before I do more than a couple.
So Eli decided he wanted to show off some shine early in the season with this attractive card.
These Donruss inserts bring you back to the 90's version with cracked ice look and appeal. The difference being, these are numbered to 999 and not 10,000.

I was really hoping Eli was going to show off some shiny new bling this year, but no hopes of that as this season and his are a complete washout.

I believe I acquired this insert in a trade with the great 90's Niche Football Card Blog.

Mystery Box On The Mail Box

It may look like I had a pile of mail coming in all at once, but honestly, I am a tad behind posting these that is why they are all in a row. There was one week where I wasn't expecting a single thing and for the most part that was true.

Then came Friday when I looked out my kitchen window to see a box sitting on top of my mail box. You see where I live, if you have a mail box and don't use the post office, they pretty much stick your packages that don't fit in your mail box wherever. One day they could be on your porch, the next day your neighbors and a day after that, on top of your mail box. Unprotected from elements of course.

So I went and grabbed my package curious to see where it was from. After reading the return address and name, I knew it was a surprise package from my good friend, @Jake1725.

Inside the box was a mix of cards and non card items.

Up first, these 1993 Gameday cards that are from Mcdonalds. I miss the food/sport card combos.  These were included apart of an NFL Kickoff promo similar to today's Monopoly one with the pull off pieces to win prizes.

Who doesn't love a hologram? Who doesn't love a hologram with Yankees on it? This innovation needs to be brought back. You listening UD??

A mixed group. Love that Topps Giants Super Bowl card. Miss the days where my team wasn't such a mess.

A stack of Jumanji cards just in time for the new movie. Once again, it's a movie that should have never been made. Leave Jumanji alone!! Nothing beats an original and The Rock is no Robin Williams.

I have always wanted some of these, Jake must have read my mind. Nice addition to my 90's PC.

Love lenticular cards. The way this one is presented makes the effect of lenticular even cooler.

Steve Smith autograph rookie card. He made a big play in Super Bowl 42 that kept the drive going for the Giants win on the touchdown pass to Plaxico Burress. This card is also /25

I know there are so many parallels out there, so so many, but some of them look amazing. This Evan Engram card is a perfect example. My first Spectra card this year.

Star Wars figures. All key characters included.

The best player in baseball history. Yes, I will boldy say that. He also didn't cheat the game.

And finally, we gotta #AllRise for this magazine cover.

A big thanks goes out to @Jake1725 for being a good friend and for the surprise mail day. I wasn't expecting that at all. Speaking of surprises, you never know when a return one could happen....

My Best Rookie Card Of The 90's

My father and I have been going back and forth through text for weeks trying to work on our second major trade.

He was looking for some more Aaron Judges for his PC and I had doubles, while my focus was on one single card that I knew he didn't want to let go. After I made my last attempt towards the card I wanted, he finally agreed and we pulled off a trade. A day after mailing, we got our cards.

I not only got one card, but ended up with a second. I didn't pull a Bellinger from my Gallery break and he had three so letting one go wasn't too hard for him. The sad part is, right after I got this, I got a trade offer for it so I am shipping it off. So I still need one of these.

And here was my card aim the whole time. It's 90's, it's Topps Chrome, it's a Super Star and it's graded. How about this bad boy....

What, what!!!

I have been wanting this card for some time but watching it jump up and up in value I knew buying wasn't an option. So I lucked out here in a trade. I was hoping he had the Vince Carter Topps Chrome as well but didn't sound like he did.

I will take a trade any day with prospects as long as I am getting a solidified player already in return. As much as I didn't want my Aaron Judge doubles go, I also can see him failing next year and values dropping hard. One thing that won't drop ever is this Tim Duncan. I think in the end I won the deal but if Judge plays like this year, you never know....

Thoughts on this tremendous add is welcomed in comments!

BFG In The Summer Of '74

The  Summer Of '74, where was I, well, I don't really know. It all depended on where my parents were as I wasn't born yet. However, I was alive in the 90's where a good portion of the prizes in The Summer Of '74's Basement Fun Game came from.

My pick was late in the game so there were many prizes I could have stolen before me and almost did, however, I decided since #10 was still open and it was Eli Manning's number that I would snag that.

Happy that I did.

My prize reveal were mini helmets in what was once the old AFC North division in the 90's. These particular pieces were from 1997.

What I appreciate most about these is the memories of watching these teams play and their "throwback" helmets.

The Houston Oilers. I was never a huge fan of theirs but their helmet was kinda cool. I can still picture Steve McNair running around with this on. They are now the Tennessee Titans.

The Jacksonville Jaguars surprised everyone in the 90's under Tom Coughlin as they upset teams and made a deep playoff run. The franchise has been a sad place since then, but this year they look pretty good. If only they had a top notch QB they could make a run again this year with that defense.

The Bengals haven't changed much over time. On the field or their helmets. Ouch, that was a bit mean.

The Steelers are a proud franchise that you always expect in the playoffs. I hope this year they can take down the Patriots.

And finally, some of you may not recognize this but it's the original logo on the Ravens helmet. This was a super cool one. It's amazing that a franchise that was once the Browns has faired so well over the years.

Speaking of surprises, not only did he send the helmets, but how cool was this to find on top of the package?!?! TTM auto of LT. Wow! Blown away. It's the kind of blown away you get after eating KFC/Taco Bell. I asked him on Twitter about if it was really signed and he said rumors were they weren't quite sure if LT signed them himself back then. Either way, great card and my first LT auto that for now I will count as real unless I can get complete confirmation either way.

Also my first Harry Carson. Another Giants great as well.

A big thanks goes out to The Summer Of '74 for the mail day and contest. I really appreciate it. If you haven't checked out his excellent blog, please do so HERE.

Top Shelf Surprise!

I was a recent lucky winner in a Top Shelf Breaks contest. What the prize was...well...I had no idea. So when a bag arrived I was in for a surprise that's for sure!

Up first, some hobby novelties. I should sometime show off my display of shirts and hats from the hobby. I think the only big company I don't have anything from is Topps.

Underneath this was a Top Shelf Breaks Gold Pack which contained these cards in it,

A couple of refractors...

And the big hit from the pack, a solid Gleyber Torres refractor.

Underneath that pack came 3 packs of 2013 Upper Deck football. Here were the highlights of those,

Dion Lewis being the big highlight of the break. He look really good since he got healthy for the Patriots.

If you wanna pull some big "monsters" as they have pulled plenty, check out Top Shelf Breaks, HERE. You can also follow them on Twitter for break updates and for giveaways. Good people who look out for collectors and trying to make breaking affordable and fun.

Eli Card Breakdown!

From time to time, Gavin over at Baseball Card Breakdown fame and I do mail day exchanges just for fun. There isn't any set-in-stone trade this for that, it's simply just mailing. Sometimes the simplicity of things is the best way. Sometimes trades can get way too complicated especially when it comes to high end cards or things of value where you have to base it on money and not fun. Because honestly, nobody wants to lose money even as much as you may like your trading partner.

Up first, some Eli and someone had he played against Eli would have definitely taken him down. Especially with this years oline.

More Eli. Really dig Prizm. I know a lot of people complain, but while we wait for Topps Chrome to make an NFL impact again, Prizm is the best shot now.

Shiny Eli! I also wished Upper Deck would have a shot an the NFL again.

Two of my bigger Giants PC's have been Andre Williams and Rueben Randle. Two players I expected a lot out of and turned out to be big time busts. Williams now is on the Chargers practice squad while Randle bounced a couple teams to the Bears where he was put on IR. My one-time investment of my teams players went down the drain. But, I will still collect them only in a NY uni however.

And even though he is no longer apart of the team, he was in the trade to the A's for Sonny Gray, I really dug this card and claimed it when Gavin stuck it up for grabs. Fowler is someone who hasn't quite made a name for himself yet. Maybe next year.

Thanks again Gavin for being such a great trade partner and I recommend anyone who hasn't traded with him yet to do so. I look forward to our next trade which I know is right around the corner.
