REVIEW:Baseball Treasure

There has always been a special place in card collecting that involves coins. Whether it's a hit from a pack, a solo coin line from Upper Deck, or back in the 90's where we got to enjoy a coin that could be embedded into a card. Or do as I did, keep them separate.

Either way, there seems to be an interest in combining the two hobbies into one.

Recently, I learned about a new line of collectible that once again combines the two hobbies in the Baseball Treasure product line.

Baseball Treasure is MLB and MLBPA licensed and comes in a one card coin pack for the price of $6.99. Every coin is made in one once of copper and has a parallel of one ounce of fine silver that falls 1:432 packs. One more chase exclusive to one player is that 1:21,600 packs will include a specially marked coin redeemable for a one-ounce gold coin of Aaron Judge commemorating his rookie record of 52 home runs last season. So want!

Every team in the product has one star player and the checklist is made up of 30 players.

Here are the available players on the checklist for each team,
  • José Altuve, Houston Astros
  • Nolan Arenado, Colorado Rockies
  • Josh Bell, Pittsburgh Pirates
  • Adrián Beltré, Texas Rangers
  • Mookie Betts, Boston Red Sox
  • Justin Bour, Miami Marlins
  • Miguel Cabrera, Detroit Tigers
  • Robinson Canó, Seattle Mariners
  • Michael Conforto, New York Mets
  • Khris Davis, Oakland Athletics
  • Corey Dickerson, Tampa Bay Rays
  • Freddie Freeman, Atlanta Braves
  • Paul Goldschmidt, Arizona Diamondbacks
  • Bryce Harper, Washington Nationals
  • Rhys Hoskins, Philadelphia Phillies
  • Adam Jones, Baltimore Orioles
  • Aaron Judge, New York Yankees
  • Clayton Kershaw, Los Angeles Dodgers
  • Francisco Lindor, Cleveland Indians
  • Joe Mauer, Minnesota Twins
  • Yadier Molina, St. Louis Cardinals
  • Yoan Moncada, Chicago White Sox
  • Wil Myers, San Diego Padres
  • Salvador Pérez, Kansas City Royals
  • Buster Posey, San Francisco Giants
  • Anthony Rizzo, Chicago Cubs
  • Travis Shaw, Milwaukee Brewers
  • Marcus Stroman, Toronto Blue Jays
  • Mike Trout, Los Angeles Angels
  • Joey Votto, Cincinnati Reds
Not a bad checklist at all. Some solid names in there.

Now that I have shown you what you could possibly find, it's time to start the chase and see my three pack break.

First coin was Wil Myers. The card itself is a basic design and is color themed by the team featured. On the “heads” side you’ll see the portrait, name, and position on the coin.  The “tails” side has a career highlight and action shot.

My second coin was Josh Bell.

My final coin was Corey Dickerson.

Just so you can see this, here are the backs of the coins and the cards.

And the licensing information.

My initial thought after the break was being impressed how heavy the coins are. Definitely nothing like Pinnacle Mint. I also thought it was nice that the coins were already embedded into the card instead of having to do it myself so I wouldn't ruin in it. The only issue I did run into was that the card stock had a tad bit of damage on a couple of them with rough edges. Could have just been a printing or pack out error. Who knows? I am sure they would probably take returns if this was the case for you. They seem like really nice guys from some short discussions I have had with them and some I have seen online.
Other than that, I kind of wished the card backs had some form of player stats or a small write up at the top of the card instead of having a repeat of the name and number again. But, that's nothing major. That's just the card collector in me. The main focus with these is obviously the coins or the treasure.
The coins however are beautiful in every way. Lots of detail with the players and I especially enjoyed the backs with the players action shots. I hope they come out with a few more series and maybe include legends or at least Ken Griffey Jr. Hint, hint.
OVERALL: If you are a baseball fan and a collector, I say give these a shot. Not too expensive and it would be a fun PC add for anyone to make your collection a bit more unique. I know personally I want the Aaron Judge versions and may seek them out. I also heard that later on this year there will be a special album as well to store these in. That will help since no other pages can hold this thickness at this time.

Baseball Treasure product can be found pretty much every where online and at some retail stores.
