CARDBOARD REVIEW:2019 Bowman Chrome Baseball

It's that time of year again. It's time to stick some chrome on some Bowman base in all of it's glorious-ness.

To me, anything that's chrome, is a  must have. But, anything that's chrome and a rookie heavy product, it's a definite.

Let's see how my 2019 Bowman Chrome break goes?

In a master box of 2019 Bowman Chrome master box, there are two mini boxes. Each mini box comes with 6 packs and one autograph making 12 packs and two autographs per master box. Boxes currently run $125.

BASE CARDS
The base card design is simply chroming up the base cards of Bowman. The base set is built of 100 cards including stars from today and

stars from tomorrow. All of the key rookies are in the product including Vlad Jr and Pete Alonso.

There is also another base chrome set in the Prospect set which contains players appearing on a Bowman card for their first time. There are 100 cards to find in this set as well.

And it wouldn't be a newer product if it didn't include base card variations for select rookies in the product.

PARALLELS:
As with anything chrome, there are refractors and that's my key draw in to a product like this. Those crisp shiny cards catch my eye.

There are refractor parallels for both the base cards and the prospect ones.

BASE CARD REFRACTORS:Base Ref /499, Purple /250, Blue /150, Green /99, Gold /50, Orange /25, Red /5, SuperFractor 1/1.

PROSPECT REFRACTORS: Base Ref /499, Purple /250, Blue /150, Green /99, Gold /50, Orange /25, Red /5, SuperFractor 1/1.

SHIMMER REFRACTOR PARALLELS: Green /99, Gold /50, Orange /25, Red /10, Black /5.

Purple shimmer. Not numbered on this one. One shimmer per box.

Base card refractor /499

Blue /150

INSERTS:

The following parallels can be found,
Atomic #/150, Orange #/25, SuperFractor 1/1.

Solid design all around on these.

Stat Tracker

 Arizona Fall League

Elite Farmhands

HITS:
 Adam Kloffestein

Brazyn Marquez

My autographs weren't the best. As everyone knows, I hate seeing pitchers as both my hits.

Other hits not found in my box but could be in yours includes,
  • 2018 Arizona Fall League AFL Fall Stars Autographs
  • Arizona Fall League Alumni Autographs
  • All-America Game Autographs
  • Elite Farmhands Autographs
  • Prime Autograph
  • Stat Tracker Autographs
  • 2018 Arizona Fall League AFL Fall Stars Relics
  • 2018 AFL Fall Stars Autograph Relics
  • Chrome Autographed Relics
Here is the overall checklist for 2019 Bowman Chrome Baseball, find it HERE.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: My hits were not great, but it's still a rookie heavy product so your value may come at a later date instead of a now. Even though my hits weren't great, I still enjoyed Bowman Chrome overall like I always have. If you are fan once, you will always be a fan.

Also, sorry I tossed the wrapper on this one before I was able to take a picture of the odds on the back. I will try to make sure not to do that next time.

If you want in on a box break of this product without paying box prices, I suggest Midwest Box Breaks as they pull fire!

CARDBOARD REVIEW:2019 Topps Heritage Minors Baseball (bonus auto!)

If you are into prospecting, the best way in my opinion to do so affordably, is looking at minor league products.

Yes, they are no Bowman Chrome value, but they can reach those heights if you find the next Mike Trout hidden within.

I was able to bust a box of the 2019 Topps Heritage Minors so let's check it out to see how it went.
In every box of 2019 Topps Heritage Minor League baseball there are 18 packs of 8 cards. You should find one autograph and one relic card per box and boxes currently run for under $60.

Each box also comes with a box topper.

The 1970 Topps Super Baseball toploader set also has rare autograph versions numbered to 25 copies.

BASE CARDS:
The base card design revisits the 1970 design just like it did for regular Heritage.

Before I continue, we have to bring in the CMP code talk as there are variations and Sp's to find in this product. If I know about these Sp's ahead of time, I usually look card by card at the CMP code located at the bottom right hand corner on the back of the card and see if I have any that are different. I find doing it pack by pack not to be as much of a pain as looking at the very end. It also gives me time to check out the card backs which many ignore.

Back on topic, let's check out the CMP codes to find the variations and base.
  • Base 1-200 end #636
  • Base SP 201-220 end #650
  • Image Variations end #651
  • Missing Name Variations end #652
 Tim Tebow
 ends in 36

However, these.....

End in 50 which makes them the Sp that make up base cards 201-220. Which is an extended part of the base set. I didn't find any other form of Sp or variations in my box.

 Sporting News subset

League Leaders subsets.

Parallels:
I think it's normal just to pull the one parallel per box which helps with value on these. This one numbered to 99/

Overall look at parallels include,
Blue /99, Black /50, Flip Stock, Gold /15 and Red 1/1.

INSERTS:
Fantastic Feats has 20 cards in the set to collect

Fresh On Scene finds 30 cards to collect has a fresh design I totally dig.

And you will find two of these per box as well. Go grab your chance!

HITS:
Clubhouse Collection relic

 Tristan Pompey auto

Fresh On The Scene Brock Deatherage

Bonus auto! Can't complain!

Other hits not found in my box but found in yours could be,
  • Real One Dual Autographs
  • 1970 Mint Autograph Relic
  • Bazooka Autographs
  • 1970 Mint Relics
Find the complete checklist HERE.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: I didn't recognize any of the name I hit in here, but what I do know is this is a product to sit on. You may not know the names now, but in two to three years you might. And for under $60 how can you not want to take a shot here. There are also some big names to find in this product for autographs as well. Minor League products don't get enough love.

If you want in on a box break of this product without paying box prices, I suggest Midwest Box Breaks as they pull fire!

Rodney's Cardboard:1996 Pacific Crown Collection Red

Hello folks! Welcome back to see more cardboard of Rodney Hampton.

Today's card is from 1996 and a parallel to Pacific Crown Collection. I tried to find some research on the odds of pulling these, but couldn't find any info on parallel odds and only found some on insert odds.

This is the red parallel. Base cards have gold foil and this one has red. I think the colored parallels look so great on these especially when you line them up together. Great base photography also helps.

Think I am only missing the silver now and will post the rainbow as I get it all together.

Blast From The Past:1999 Bowman Chrome Football 1 Pack Break

In 1999, a flick with Brendan Fraser and Alicia Silverstone called Blast From The Past came out. It was about a scientist named Calvin Webber who was played by Christopher Walken, that took his pregnant wife in a deep underground fallout shelter in 1962 when he thought a nuclear war was imminent. During that time, their son Adam played by Fraser (who seemed to had been in every late 90's movie) was born and was exposed to only the culture of 1962 in the shelter such as the music and TV shows of the time. Life was accustomed to not being at the surface.

Fast forward 35 years later, their supplies and food was running low so someone would have to come above ground and take a risk to get new products. That was supposed to be Calvin, up until he was ill from stress from his one visit to the surface. So his son Adam would have to venture out in a world he had never met.....

This segment takes a look at products that may have been hidden in a underground fallout shelter for over 20 years and now just coming back out to be rediscovered....by me. Guess you can call me Adam even though my name is Matt. These are products I opened when I was first collecting and is a Part Of My Past, but may not have a memory or a Origins story to attach to them. Most products I post on
here will, but some won't and those will be covered in this new segment. These products will be between the years of 1995-1999 only.

Let's just hope my experience with these breaks is better than Adams first visit to the surface.

So let's take a Blast From The Past with a one pack break of 1999 Bowman Chrome Football!

I found someone on eBay selling packs of this for $1.99 and who can turn that down? I had an eBay gift card to use up and what better way to do so then to buy a retro pack to break especially one I broke in my youth and one that is covered in chrome.

Each pack of Bowman Chrome comes with 4 cards. Just like it's Topps Chrome counterpart

Here are the pack backs

Let's see if anything bodacious pops out.

Enis was a Top 5 draft pick that only made it three years in the league after not living up to expectations and many injuries which forced him to retire early.

Larry Parker Jr was drafted by the Chiefs in the 4th round of the 1999 NFL Draft. Didn't get to play much and career wasn't long only lasting a couple of years.

Douglas had a career of injuries playing four seasons in the NFL mostly with the Eagles after the Raiders drafted him in 1999.

Eric Moulds was the best player from my pack. He played 12 seasons for 3 teams and made 3 Pro Bowls

Well this was a blast from the past in terms of player names and card design, but overall, a very painful pack break. At least I get to have experienced it again and bring back those warm memories.

This MEANS It Is Complete!

24 years ago I hoped to have chased the 1995 Skybox Premium Paydirt insert set and now I can say it is completed.

There are 30 cards in the set with the odds of finding on at 1:4 packs.

With my latest HUGE eBay bucks release of $1.14, I was able to score this final piece for $1.04 shipped. It seemed like a perfect fit with the right amount of eBay bucks and being the final piece to a set.

This set is very nostalgic for me with being able to think about the many packs of SkyBox Premium I bust back then, the players in the set and the fact it's a really nice looking insert with its glimmer and shine.

I look forward to the next set I am able to knock down.

OH, Mr. Wilson!!!!

For a few months now I have been apart of an autograph group on Facebook who share their success and failures. They also share how you can score what they did as well.

A lot of autographs are cool, but ones that come as a hand drawn sketch...those are pretty awesome.

I grew up watching some show with my grandma. You know, Mr Ed, Andy Griffith and of course Dennis The Menace. I enjoyed the moments we spent watching shows she used to watch that I actually enjoyed myself. I can't remember which TV channel, one is to assume Nick At Nite, that used to play all of them for us to watch.

I remember Dennis The Menace well though because I used to pretend I was him getting myself into heaps of trouble with an older guy who worked with my father on the farm. I used to call him Mr.Wilson but he was much meaner than that actually.

Anyways, one of the things they shared on the Facebook page was an email address for Ron Ferndinand who is an artist for the comic strips of Dennis The Menace and after seeing a few really cool pieces I thought I would take my stab at it knowing I was a fan and bringing back those memories I had with my grandmother.

So I sent off an email and Ron was more than happy to oblige. In just a few short days this piece above arrived. It's so cool!!!

A thanks goes out to Ron for taking time out for a fan and sending off such a cool piece. So far everyone who has asked him for one has gotten a different sketch which is really great of him to take time out to
