REVIEW:2016 Topps U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Team Hopefuls (AUTOGRAPH GIVEAWAY #d 14/15!!)

I for one, like to collect cards that aren't always mainstream sports. I just think it's fun to break outside of the norm and a lot of the time you will find hidden gems and value for those items.

One type of product that you can open and be able to find that is in the 2016 Topps U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Team Hopefuls product.

How did my break go and why do I feel this way? Read on:

In every box of 2016 Topps U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Team Hopefuls is 24 packs of 8 cards per pack. You should find 3 hits per box including an auto, relic and commemorative relic within. Each box will run you about $60.

The base card design is what the product is all about, showcasing the brightest stars all across the Olympic and Paralympics for a variety of sports. There are some big names within as well as you can see:

There are 75 cards in a base set.

As the norm, base card parallels and what better way to do them then by doing Bronze, Silver and Gold. You kinda had to expect that right?
Bronze falls 1 per pack while the others fall....
Silver is 1:2 packs, Gold is 1:3 packs and Gold Rainbow the rarest one are 1/1's
Other inserts include....

OLYMPIC DISCIPLINES which represents a U.S. Olympic athlete and the discipline in which they’ll complete at the 2016 Olympic Games. Also tells how it is played. These fall 1:4 packs.
Closing Ceremonies chronicles past Olympic Games and shows an overview of which countries won the most medals, including overall, gold, silver and bronze. These are the toughest insert to pull falling at 1:24 packs.

The final insert which will be un-pictured as my phone had a glitch and didn't upload a picture, is Memorable Moments. Obviously showcasing the best moments in Olympic history. These fall 1:8 packs.

Now onto the hits~!

U.S. Olympic Team Relic Cards. These showcase 50 hopefuls representing their sport. I think getting a piece of memorabilia from the Olympics is pretty cool.
Mine is the base version. But, you can find parallels as well including Bronze, Silver, Gold and Gold Rainbow 1/1 cards.

Here is what the commemorative medals look like. Obviously there are three levels to collect with bronze being the most common. There is also Silver and Gold and parallels of Blue and Red.

Now onto the autograph or what I call, autographs as my box provided an extra hit.

Up first, I think this card is really cool and you will see why in a second. This is the base autograph here. But you can also find parallels including Bronze, Silver....(wait til the jump for the gold)

But before showing the gold parallel which I pulled in my box, this is why I think this Matt Stutzman card is super cool. Look at this sit down he did with Topps signing these....
Gold such as this one numbered to 15

and and Gold Rainbow 1/1 cards are available too.

Other memorabilia and autographed selections not found in my box are...
U.S. Olympic Champion Autograph Cards, U.S. Olympic Cut Signature Cards, and Autographed Relic Cards.Other hits include Commemorative Relic Cards like, United States Olympic Team Patch, United States of America Flag Patch, and United States Olympic Team Crest Patches. All or most of these have parallel versions.

Overall, if you are into outside-the-box sports or like the Olympics, I think this is a pretty solid Gold Medal product looking at the checklist, hits per box and price. There are many hidden gems within and the hits are well designed.

REVIEW:2016 Topps Tribute Baseball (GIVEAWAY)

Definitely the highest of the high-end products I have ever opened, Topps Tribute was a new surprise to me as I didn't know what to expect. I kinda like that thought.

Did this high-end product surprise me or did it leave me disappointed, well, read on!

In every box of 2016 Topps Tribute Baseball you get 6 packs per box with 7 cards per pack. You will find 3 autographs and 3 relics per box that are all numbered. Boxes, like I said this is a very high end product, will run you $250 roughly.

Some quick positives before I move on with the review, the card technology is new. It's called Chromax and is stunning for sure. One of the biggest positives for collectors may be the fact that all autographs are ON CARD!!!
The base cards are very breath taking if you like things shiny like me. The design is simple, yet elegant. The base cards are also very sturdy and would be hard to damage/bend. Scratches may occur however. The technology reminds me of the late 90's Topps Gold Label.

The base card checklist is built of 90 cards of legends of today and of the past.
As with the base cards, the parallels look great as well. These two are both green parallels numbered to 99. You should find one parallel per box. I got lucky I guess.
Here are the other base card offerings including those elusive Supers!
  • Purple Parallel - sequentially numbered.
  • Red Parallel - sequentially numbered to 5.
  • Black Parallel - numbered 1/1.
  • Tribute SuperFractor Parallel - numbered 1/1
  • Printing Plates - numbered 1/1
The technology for Tribute stays true throughout the product. Beautiful looking cards with added memorabilia or autograph.

Tribute Relics are single relics of retired stars, MLB veterans and exciting newcomers and are sequentially numbered. I pulled Cabrera.

The next relic set I think is one cool set. They are called Stamp of Approval. They feature a bigger-sized relic piece in a die-cut. Each relic piece is MLB Authenticated with a sticker and sequentially numbered as you will see here:

With the Stamp Of Approvals there are also parallels like the Salvy I pulled above.

They include:
  • Purple Parallel - sequentially numbered.
  • Orange Parallel - sequentially numbered to 25.
  • Red Parallel - sequentially numbered to 5.
  • Black Parallel - numbered 1/1.
  • Tribute SuperFractor Parallel - numbered 1/1. NEW!
Other relic cards not pulled in this break include:

Prime Patches that features patch relic cards of superstar veterans and HOF greats with each being numbered and having parallels as well like....

- Red Parallel - sequentially numbered to 5
- Black Parallel - numbered 1/1
- Tribute SuperFractor Parallel - numbered 1/1

Milestone Relics that feature relic swatches of game-used baseballs from milestone MLB games. Each of these relic pieces will be MLB Authenticated and numbered to 10. This as well has a parallel that's a Black Jumbo Autographed Parallel that is numbered 1/1.

Now onto those on-card autographs.

The first two autographs, the probably most common to pull are Tribute Autographs.Veterans, icons and rookie are showcased in this 72 card autographed set. Each are numbered.
  • Blue – /150
  • Green – /99
  • Purple – /50
  • Orange – /25
  • Red – /5
  • Black – 1/1
  • Printing Plates Black – 1/1
  • Black Parallel - numbered 1/1
  • Tribute SuperFractor Parallel - numbered 1/1
  • Printing Plates - numbered 1/1
The two I pulled are the basic blue version. One of Garrett Richards, the other of Phillies rookie Aaron Nola.

My last autograph is a Rightful Recognition Autograph of Rafael Palmeiro. This card is numbered to 99.

This autograph set also ties in with Foundations of Greatness which covers the younger version of these players for a Then and Now type of collecting.

As with some of this product, this one as well comes with parallels to chase.
  • Purple Parallel - sequentially numbered.
  • Orange Parallel - sequentially numbered to 25.
  • Red Parallel - sequentially numbered to 5.
  • Black Parallel - numbered 1/1.
  • Tribute SuperFractor Parallel - numbered 1/1. NEW!
  • Printing Plates - numbered 1/1.
Other autographs not pulled in this box but are in the product are....
Ageless Accolades
A tribute to the game's MVPs from seasons past on acetate.
  • Red Parallel - sequentially numbered to 5.
  • Black Parallel - numbered 1/1.
Tribute Tandems Book Cards
A two panel book card pairing veterans with baseball icons who share something in common and are numbered to 25. Parallels include Red numbered to 5 and Black numbered 1/1.

Triple Crown Memories
Triple Crown Memories celebrating the 50th anniversary of 1966 when both Frank Robinson and Sandy Koufax won the Triple Crown award by leading baseball in their statistical categories. Parallels include Red numbered to 5 and Parallel numbered 1/1.

Overall Thoughts: It's definitely a beautiful product from top to bottom and has a solid checklist of players and items to pull. However, this box I felt was a dud. Looking at my value vs what you would pay it's probably not that close as I did spend thorough time looking up the values of each of my pulls on eBay.

I am not telling you however not to buy this product. When you do hit, boy, you will hit I can see that much from preview images and other breaks online. But, with any product no matter the cost it's a risk especially on the high end stuff. If you collect high end and like the gamble, I would definitely tell you to buy it. If you don't like forking out this much cash, it's probably safer to buy packs or singles.

Reminiscing 90's:1990 McDonalds Happy Meal Transformers Changables McDino Burger

We are back to the normal setup for Reminiscing 90's. 90's toys and info just for you! Today, we get to view a toy I have had for well over a year....

But, first...

Key notes for July 29th 1990:
July 29th 1990 was a Friday
George H.W.Bush was President
Most Popular Movie released in May of 1990 was Problem Child
Most Popular Book around this time was Burden Of Proof by Scott Turow
Billboard Hot 100 number-one single on May 20th 1990 was She Ain't Worth It by Glenn Medeiro
Most Popular TV Shows: Seinfeld

FEATURED TOY:
90's Happy Meal toys were so much cooler than today's. You combine transforming dinosaurs with your favorite kids food and you got a winner.

I found today's item in a free box at a yard sale. Mint condition. These aren't worth much more than memories, but that's all I need.

It looks like a burger...

Then you pull out once side...

Then the other and you get a fierce monster!

FEATURED CARDS: Today's theme has to do with food and dinosaurs who had a monstrous appetite. So when searching for cards for today, I came upon some Steve McNair rookie cards from 1995 and thought this was a good fit.

Steve was Someone who had a monstrous appetite for the field. He was not only a great passing QB, but the guy was a dual threat as a runner too. Not to mention tough and helped lead the Titans to the Super Bowl falling just a yard shy of possibly winning the Big Game.

I bought a ton of 1995 Pinnacle. I loved the inserts, Museum Collection cards and the base card design and photography in general.

Sport Flix...now if you can only focus your eyes after.

Fleer Metals debut. Was a great line for some time.

What other players do you think had a monstrous appetite for the field in the 90's?

How Do You Sort These?

When sorting last week, I came across this card....

Then I thought to myself...How am I going to sort this?

It's techincally a Redskins card, a Giants division rival, but he features him in a Giants uniform. So where do I put this card? Do I put it in my Giants binder because of the uniform or do I file him under Redskins?

With much arguing with myself on both ends of the problem, I finally decided to stick it in my Giants binder because of the uniform.

But, what would you guys had done with the above card? Would you stick a Dodgers player in a Dodgers uniform who has SF Giants written on it in your Dodgers collection or would you put it somewhere else? Would you put a Lebron James Miami Heat card with Cavs written on it in your Heat collection?

I wanna hear your guys reasoning for your response.

2016 MLB HOF Inductee, Ken Griffey Jr!

First off, we all knew I couldn't go today without at least saying something. So congrats to a well deserved place in the Hall Of Fame to one of the greatest to EVER step out on the field, Ken Griffey Jr.

Second, Upper Deck asked this weekend on Twitter and Facebook that fans show pictures of their favorite Upper Deck Ken Griffey Jr cards. If you didn't know, Upper Deck and Ken Griffey Jr are like PB&J. You couldn't have one without the other and between 1989-2009 you found plenty of Griffey UD cardboard. There were special commemorative sets, inserts, packaging and so on plastered with the face of baseball at the time.

But, sadly today, we don't get to marvel at what once was with the hobby all singled out to one company per sport. We do get a few Griffey cards from time to time in special promo sets from UD, but not like it once was.

So, today, I thought I would pick out a few of my favorite Upper Deck cards that's not the infamous and Hobby Hall Of Fame worthy '89 rookie card to appease Upper Deck's social media request and to celebrate what I have waited for to see for years with Griffey Jr making his final baseball stop.

This isn't a big gallery, but I chose a few of my favorites.

Let's see my gallery and in comments you can tell me some of your favorite Upper Deck Junior cards.

Bloodlines. Nothing like getting the family together on a card. You can tell pops is pretty proud.

The key to Upper Deck's early baseball card success was they always had fun when they did photos like this

Griffey is everywhere!!!!! I wished I could have said that more in the 90's in my card packs, but I always think this was one of the more unique photographed base cards I had ever seen.

Bugs Bunny and Ken Griffey Jr on a hologram...boo yeah! Can't go wrong here.

Not sure how many of you remember how popular this card was. This one and Aurora were the first two to feature Ken Griffey Jr in a Red's uniform after the trade. This one was the hotter and more popular of the two with collectors running to chase packs to find it. I was fortunate enough to pack pull it.

And we close it out with some Austin, I mean, Awesome Powers. UD Ionix was such a pretty product and this was my favorite insert pulls from it.

Hope you all enjoyed my gallery and like I said earlier, would love to hear about your favorites too in comments.

Congrats again to Ken on making the Hall Of Fame and for giving us 90's raised kids someone to idolize. It was a career and highlight reel that I will never forget with those amazing catches and that "sweet, sweet" swing. I started watching baseball because of you and even though I was a Yankee fan, I always routed you on even when you faced them.

Thank you.

Sunday's With Rodney:1997 Score Hobby Reserve

This was a product I never knew exited in 1997. How could I have been left out of the loop on this card???

1997 Score Hobby Reserve is a 330 card parallel version of the regular set. The only difference between this and the regular set is the gold foil "Hobby Reserve" stamp on the card front.

At the time,it was distributed in 20 card packs.

I think sets like this are lame, but I needed this card so it's added. However, I do like the action photography on the front.

Thoughts on these 90's parallel to the base card sets?

REVIEW:2016 Topps Factory Set Baseball Hobby Box

Set collecting.

There isn't as much of it around as there once was, but it still does exist in the hobby. I, myself, still collect and put together sets that catch my attention or are a challenge.

There are many ways to collect sets and no way is wrong.

One, you can build it yourself by buying pack after pack hoping to land that last card or two you need. (I have done this many, many times. The chase is what makes it fun)

Two, you can buy a hobby or retail box or two, then fill your set needs through trading/buying singles. (Done it that way too)

Three, you could simply cut to the chase and buy a complete set. (Have done this too if it's something I really need)

That's where today's review comes into play. This is a complete set of 2016 Topps Baseball with both Series 1 and 2.

In every hobby complete set box of 2016 Topps baseball, you get 700 cards and a bonus 5-card special "limited to these sets 'foil pattern' numbered card pack."  These cards are numbered to 177.

The cost of the sets run around $50.

Other than this hobby set version, there are also retail versions of this set that come with a 5 card pack of rookie variations and an All-Star version that comes with 5 card pack of All-Star cards.

But, today's is the hobby version so let's get to opening!

Once you open up your set, this appears:

The bonus pack is set to the back. My only problem with the set was the cards were not put in order which seemed a bit off to me. I like to have my sets all in order and now will have to number it by hand myself. Which for a set this big it can be a time consuming pain lol.

Before I tackle that project, I took out the cello pack. Here is what the cello pack looks like:

After busting the cello-pack, you get some really slick looking foilboard patterned parallel cards. I know I like what I see.

First one, as you saw already was Kurt Suzuki

Second one, Yasmany Tomas

Third one is a rookie of Ketel Marte,

Next up, Giovanny Urshela

And finally, Cleveland Indians Team Card.

Really sharp looking parallels and now I want more.

Overall, this is a solid buy in my opinion. And if I had to choose one of the versions, I would choose this one. Not that the rookie variations aren't tempting, but these I think will be worth more in the long run as they can be anyone from the 700-card checklist and are limited to just 177 for each card. So there is value to find in this $50 set.

Thanks to Topps for the set to review. You can check them out, HERE

Look for some of these parallels in a future contest. Can you say World Series.....

Thoughts on the set are welcomed below and thoughts & sharing of this review (leave your sharing link in comments) left may earn you some extra brownie points down the road....

The 90's Collection:1997 Finest Michael Strahan "Hitmen"

1997 Finest was broken into many parts/themes and into two series. There was Bronze, Silver and Gold base cards. Today's card is of Michael Strahan. It's the bronze base card with the theme Hitmen which covered a lot of defensive players who knew how to Hit.

I not only think the design is cool, but I still dig the non-peel on the card. I have never once peeled one off and if I have, it's only on the Mystery Finest.

Thoughts on today's card or the theme of Finest is welcomed in comments!

Nuttin But The Hits:2015 Certified Football Hobby Box (Nice Box)

2015 Certified wronged me the first time as I hit a really poor box, this time however, it treated me much better.

There are 10 packs per box of Certified and boxes are still running roughly $70. There are 4 hits per box and some colorful parallel treats sprinkled in as well.
Some numbered parallels here. Hit some solid players too.

Inserts with Mariota and a numbered Fitz.

And even landed a Mirror Gold of Marcus Allen /50.

Hits. This Greyson guy keeps stalking me.

Twice in this box. This one however is /25.

Nice three-color patch auto of David Johnson. Great design, layout and player. He could be a beast next season.

And if the rest of the box wasn't enough, a sick 4-color patch of Devante Parker numbered 10/10

A much better box break of Certified this time around. Lot's of color, sweet patches and decent players.

Thoughts on Certified or my box break?
