Scary Cardboard

Just for fun being that it's Halloween, I thought I would post a card of a character I would find scary if it actually existed. (you may have seen this card before on The Card Bin)

I think Ultron would be the ultimate choice here for me.

Can you imagine having him on the loose? He is the ultimate Supervillian with superhuman levels of strength, speed, stamina, durability, and reflexes. He would be pretty much unstoppable in our world unless The Avengers existed to. Who knows even if they could stop him in the end? Scary thought.

By the way, in case you are wondering what this card is, it's a 2015 Upper Deck Marvel Dossier #12 ULTRON Foil Parallel. Despite how scary Ultron would be in real life, the card of him isn't. It's actually pretty sharp with the gold/rainbow shine.

What character on a card would you choose that you would find scary if existed? Let me know in comments and tell/show me which card it is and why you chose it.

Still Sortin

You ever just feel like you started a project you are never going to finish?

Well, I know I have.

In what has been a summer of sorting, I have posted before how I am going through my 23 years of collecting and tearing it all apart. I am finally sorting by teams and key players from each instead of by year, number, brand, etc. It will make things a bit easier in the end, but with time shortage on trying to do my project and with so much to go through, my task feels impossible.

In my most recent sorting, I finally got a few stacks of football rookies put away in binders

And started on putting a huge stack of baseball cards by team.

Originally, I was sorting on my desk and it was taking FOREVER. So I decided I needed to find another way to sort so I started to use my BCW Sorting Tray to my advantage instead of leaving it on my desk to have piles to stack in it.

It has cut my sorting time in half.

I know it sounds crazy, but once you get teams put into a certain slot you can really start busting through some piles.

I still have a very LONG WAYS to go but at least things are moving in the right direction. Time has been the biggest factor which I hope gets better to.

What current hobby project are you working on? Have you ever felt like you got over your head in one? Comment below!

Unscrewed

I have heard some really bad hobby horror stories on screwdown plastics over the years and when going through some cards in my sorting revamp, I noticed I had a stack of 5 or 6 cards that were in screwdown protectors. Most cards were really decent ones I didn't want to possibly see ruined so I decided to take the time and free them.

For some reason, I sent myself the wrong picture here but picture a Cal Ripken Jr card inside of this

After unscrewing it, I feared for the worst as I was experiencing what other collectors feared and complained about with these screwdowns, the cards sticking to them.

Luckily I was able to carefully un-stick the Ripken without any damage.

And luckily I took my other cards out of these before it was too late. Cal was the only one that was stuck since it had been in there the longest since 2003.

So this is all that remains now Plastics I have no use for or maybe I will find a different use for since I like to recycle things.

So a little warning to all who use these, be careful your cards don't stick before it's too late. I would hate for you to lose a card. I recommend penny sleeves and top loaders the most.

One-Touch magnet protectors work as long as you have the right size card. Don't push your luck as I did cause I had the same sticking situation with a Julio Jones auto patch rookie card in a magnetic. Luckily I was able to get the card out without damage. That put a little fright in my on using those too but I checked the rest of my cards in those and they seemed fine.

Have you ever lost a card using these? Do you use these? How do you store your jersey or autographed cards? Let me know in comments!

Nuttin But The Hits:2015 SA-GE Hit High Series Blaster

This has been a tough year financially when it comes to the hobby, so to break a non-buying streak, I saw a markdown blaster box of 2015 Sage Hit High Series for $11.98 with 4 autographs, I said, why not.

Hoping one of those autos would be someone at least good.

Once again, the only problem I have with the SA-GE blasters is the autographs being packed separately. It takes the fun out of busting the other packs as you know they are all base cards. I will touch more on this at a different date.

For now, let's bust open an autograph pack.

While we are at it, since this autograph checklist is so deep, let's score my box per rookie and if they are still playing or not to grade my overall box.

My first autograph was of Dee Hart. Who? Well, I had to Google him. Apparently tried out for the Dolphins and never made it.
0-1 in this box so far.
Up next, Amario Herrera, another one of those Google Search guys. He was drafted by the Colts in the 6th round in 2015. Didn't make it there and then was cut by both the Titans and Redskins.

Make that 0-2 in this box.

Steven Nelson I had to Google as well. However, he is a current KC Chief and was a third round pick. Not bad here.
We will give this one some credit, 1-3 so far.

Shane Carden is the final pull. He was signed by the Bears as an undrafted free agent. Was cut then went to Montreal Alouettes.

So will give this one half credit. Not the NFL, but is still playing and a cool looking card. Numbered as well.
So final rookie score, 1 1/2 out of 4. Ouch. Hopefully Carden will find his way back into the NFL, maybe even the Bears who need a QB.

Overall, I still think $11.98 is a good deal for this. Wished I had enough to picked up the second box I saw, but, hopefully next time it will still be there.

Thoughts on my break are welcomed below!

REVIEW:2016 Topps Triple Threads Baseball+BIG PULL AND BIG #d 1/3 GIVEAWAY!

Triple Threads baseball has been an iconic Topps brand now for over 10 years now and one that has a lot to offer from MLB players of the past and present with a deep checklist of autograph and memorabilia items. The cards have always looked really sharp as I have picked up many singles over the years from baseball and football.

So why don't we take a look at what the 2016 edition looks like,

In every hobby box of 2016 Topps Triple Threads baseball, there are two mini boxes. Inside of those mini boxes are one silver pack in each. Each hobby box will run you $170. So it's high end that not everyone can afford, but mini boxes wouldn't be a bad way to go here if you wanted to gamble.

Each Mini Box may contain VERSION 1 or VERSION 2:
VERSION 1 contains three base cards, two base Parallel cards, one Triple Relic Card AND one Triple Threads Unity Single Auto Jumbo Relic OR one Autographed Rookie Card.

VERSION 2 contains three base cards, two base Parallel cards, one AND 1 Autographed Triple Relic card + one Triple Threads Unity Jumbo Relic.

In every hobby box you should find the following,
  • One Autographed Triple Relic Card #'d to 99 or less
  • One Triple Relic Card #'d to 36 or less
  • One Autographed Rookie Card or Triple Threads Unity Autograph Jumbo Relic Card #'d to 99 or less
  • One Triple Threads Unity Jumbo Relic Card #'d to 36 or less
The base cards are what you would expect from a high end brand. Well designed, printed on high end cardboard (none of that flimsy stuff) and top notch checklist of players from present to past.

There are 100 cards in the base set.

As with any product today, there are parallels. Mine was Astro heavy. The upside down triangle behind the players head helps you differentiate what color you pulled. Besides the numbering.
Here are the many options for base card parallels.
  • Amethyst Parallel - #'d to 250
  • Emerald Parallel - #'d to 200
  • Amber Parallel - #'d to 150
  • Gold Parallel - #'d to 99
  • Onyx Parallel - #'d to 50
  • Sapphire Parallel - #'d to 25
  • Ruby Parallel - #'d to 1
  • Printing Plates - All 1 of 1's!
Now time for the hits in my box!

This is a Triple Threads Unity Single Jumbo Relics. If I am going to get a one color swatch, I want it on a nice looking card as this. The base versions of these are #'d to 36. I pulled a silver that is #d to 27.
There are other parallels to:
  • Emerald Parallel - #'d to 18
  • Gold Parallel - #'d to 9
  • Sapphire Parallel - #'d to 3
  • Ruby Parallel - #'d to 3
My next pull was an Autographed Rookie Card and a dreaded redemption card. Not something I would expect in a high end brand, but I guess it happens. I just wished it had been of a legend or big current player. Doesn't feel right being a rookie. But, I guess some or most of these are on-card so that works.

It's called Triple Threads for a reason....Triple the threads. This is an Triple Threads autograph card but it's also a Sapphire parallel numbered to 3. Base versions are numbered to 18.

Other parallels are....
  • Gold Parallel - #'d to 9
  • Ruby Parallel - #'d to 1
  • Wood Parallel - #'d to 1
  • Printing Plates - All 1 of 1
My final pull was a biggie, a Triple Threads Jumbo Plus Relic booklet that has 1 player with 3 relics, which include 2 patch pieces and 1 jumbo patch piece and is #d to 3.

Inside.....

BOOM! And it's Game Used! Such a sick card.
There are tons and tons of other finds not found in my box but in the product including,
  • Triple Threads Jumbo Patch Combos
  • Triple Threads Letter Plus Relics
  • Triple Threads Unity Autograph Jumbo Relics
  • Triple Threads All-Star Patches
  • Triple Threads All-Star Jumbo ASG Patches
  • Triple Threads All-Star Jumbo Sleeve Team Patches
  • Triple Threads All-Star Majestic Logo Patch
  • Triple Threads All-Star Laundry Tag,
  • Deca Threads Auto Relics
  • Deca THREADS Auto Relic Combos
  • Deca Threads Relic Combos
  • Future Phenoms Auto Relics
  • Triple Threads Auto Relic Combos
  • Triple Threads Jumbo Plus Autograph Relics
  • Triple Threads Letter Plus Autograph Relics
  • Triple Threads Cut Above Autograph
  • Triple Threads Dual Cut Above Autographs
  • Triple Threads Relics Legends
  • Triple Threads Relics
  • Triple Threads Bat Name Plates
  • Triple Threads Jumbo Letter/Number/Logos
  • Triple Threads Bat Knobs
  • Triple Threads Jumbo Plus Relics
  • Triple Threads Jumbo Patch Combos
  • Triple Threads Letter Plus Relics
And of course all of these have parallels as well. I would have listed what each card description is, but I think for the most part they are self explanatory and with so much offered I would be here awhile. They are however all really beautiful cards and I suggest you look some up on eBay or Google to see some of these for yourself. It may help you decide to buy a box other than my review of course ;)

You should also check out this article on Topps about the All-Star jerseys they included in the product. Read that HERE.

I also have the 2016 Topps Triple Threads baseball checklist available for you to that I found on the GoGTS website. I couldn't find it on Topps. You can check that out, HERE. It's pretty loaded.

Overall, this is what I would come to expect from a high end brand. Low numbered cards, well designed and some HUGE hits that await. You can't guarantee that every break is going to turn out as well as mine did, but, that's the risk you take with any high end product. This one on the other hand I think has so much to offer that if I was to roll the dice on high end, this would be the one I would take a chance on.

If you can't afford the gamble, definitely get yourself in on a box break or try a mini box. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Now time for the GIVEAWAY. This is how this is going to work:

20 Entries or less,
This is the contest:

35 Entries or less,
This will be tossed in to another winner. So two winners

Project Pedro Trade Recap Part 27:1997 New Pinnacle Hobby Box Break Part 2: THE BIG PULL

Today marks the end of Cards I Got From Project Pedro month as my blog will move now with it's regularly scheduled program.

So I broke down the base cards a bit in 1997 New Pinnacle football in part one, now time for the hits!

In every box of 1997 New Pinnacle Football, you will find yourself with 18 packs. This box particularly was only $15 and the last one on the shelf. I have seen others go for much more but I will say this is probably the best $15 spent in the 90's or recently.

The base cards that aren't the fun pictures, show action shots and rookies are pictured at the premier. There is also an Instincts subset with QB's. I like how the names are presented on the regular base cards with them being shiny and elegant. The base are also thicker and feel high end with all of the gloss and appeal.

Here is a Wheatley base card for my Giants PC. Just so impressive.

Now time for those inserts.

Up first, 1:9 pulls of Museum Collection a Pinnacle standby since the earlier 90's.

Got a rockin' Kerry!

Up next, Epix which simply look Epic(x). Great design and many levels to collect. I was shocked to even find one since they fall 1:21 packs, so finding three, I was amazed. More impressive are the good players I hit as well.

And my final pull that literally fell into my hands from the pack, it was in a penny sleeve. A 1:2250 pull, the toughest to pull from the product and a 1/1, an authentic Press Plate.

The problem is, the player I pulled in Yatil Green. But hey, it's a great pull and one I will forever hold onto.
So $15 and some great pulls including a 1/1. I was left wanting more and more but not sure if I will find it. Great value.
A big, huge thanks goes out to Project Pedro Blog for this whopper of a trade and for all of the great cards. I look forward to our next trade.
Thoughts on my huge trade mail day month and of course thoughts on this product are welcomed below.

Project Pedro Trade Recap Part 26:1997 New Pinnacle Hobby Box Break Part 1

October has officially been named, Cards I Got From Project Pedro Blog Month.

The final box break of my trade was a doozy. Sadly it was also the cheapest of the group and provided the best. I knew all about New Pinnacle as I opened a ton of it in baseball and football form in 1997. So there wasn't going to be a lot of surprises, except one that was found in this box.....POSTING TOMORROW.

While we wait another day for the hits, I wanted to talk about the fun base cards. The design is very sharp and provides crystal clear photography, however, there are some fun base cards to view of QB's. Since Pinnacle was all about the QB's.

Up first, it's Super MVP man Brett Favre!

Boomer Esiason is here to teach you how not to be a QB. Sorry Boomer...

Slash Stewart here to CUT through your defense.

Elway ready to rocket to a Super Bowl win!

And nobody rocks harder than Kerry. The King Of Panthers football in the 90s!

I don't think we will ever see base cards done like this again so it's fun to see them when you find em. The 90's provided a lot of fun with base especially with Pinnacle and Upper Deck products. Something we don't find so much today.

I will be posting the rest of the break tomorrow including the hits and major hit I found in the box.

Leave your thoughts on your favorite card of the group below and let me know if you like base cards being "fun" every so often.

Breakdown Of A Griffey Jr Trade Mail Day

I once again feel very lucky to had stumbled upon Baseball Card Breakdown blog for a variety of reasons. One, his blog post creativity is amazing. Second, his custom card work is top notch and I am very fortunate to own a few cards and lastly he is a great trader.

Yesterday, a fun packed PWE of cards arrived in our latest trade.

Up first, some Griffey cards I haven't ever seen. I really like adding oddball ones. These are 1991 Pepsi cards. There are 8 cards in the set so I am pretty close thanks to Gavin to having them all.

This card right here is OUT OF THIS WORLD. The design, rainbow shine and all around appeal is a perfect example of why I love the 90's inserts.

These 7 new Griffey adds brings me up to 835 total different. Still a long ways to go.

I have seen these Gallery Of Greats inserts from a distance and thought, man, I need one. Well, thanks to Gavin, I do!

Shiny and Yankees, nailed it with this Bowman Chrome add!

I also got one of Gavin's amazing custom cards from his Pretty Girls Series of Zooey Deschanel. I didn't post this beautiful card because I didn't want him to receive any emails from a certain company ;) If you have read his blog in the past, you will get this.

Which if I had chosen a card(s) from his custom set, I would have chosen Zooey (big fan of her and loved her in Yes Man which she co-starred with Jim Carey in ) and Emma Watson. So pretty stoked of this add.

Overall, a very solid mail day and trade. Thanks again Gavin and I look forward to the next!

Project Pedro Trade Recap Part 25:Running With The Best

October has officially been named, Cards I Got From Project Pedro Blog Month.

Well, here it is. The big card of the trade a 1997 Pro Line autograph numbered to 200 of Emmitt Smith.

I know it's not very often that a Giants fan wants a Cowboys auto, especially of a player they despised and a player that always put out his best effort against the Giants but I really had to respect the guy. He truly is one the greatest running backs of all time and I had the pleasure and displeasure of watching him.

I was super stoked to land this to add to my autograph HOF football PC. I have been trying to land all of the big players of the 90s autographs and this one is a biggie. Hoping for Barry Sanders, Jerry Rice, Troy Aikman, Steve Young, and Brett Favre still. Those will be a tough tackle especially in Favre whose autographs are really expensive.

Tomorrow is Part 1 of 2 of the final box break with the big hit. Stay tuned!

Thoughts on today's card and what autographs you are chasing are welcomed in comments!

Project Pedro Trade Recap Part 24:Shadowboxed

October has officially been named, Cards I Got From Project Pedro Blog Month.

One of the cooler innovations to me in the past 5 years are Shadowboxes. They are much different in card form then what we would use to shove junk in to display. I think it would actually be cooler to have had junk from the player displayed in them too! Cut up jersey pieces, shoes, etc.

The cards are thick and have a square cut out in the middle that is "in-depth" compared to rest of the card.

Some may be signed and some may not be.

Sadly, with the tough odds on these, these are the only two I own (trading off my only other one but these are staying)

First up, one of my favorites from the 90's, Barry Sanders.

Secondly, my first signed one. Charles White.

We are coming down to the final three days of this series and the monster of the trade will post tomorrow. I know you will be back to see that.

As for closing out today, your thoughts on Shadowbox cards in comments below.

You will have 48 hours from now to claim your prize or it will be re-given away in a future contest. Thanks to everyone who entered. More contests coming soon especially some big ones that I have been quiet about :)

Project Pedro Trade Recap Part 23:A Sweet Reggie

October has officially been named, Cards I Got From Project Pedro Blog Month.

I wanted this card for a couple reasons, I like Wayne and these Sweet Spot panel sigs are pretty slick.

This one is numbered 11/15 so it's also a bit tougher of a pull and I noticed on eBay that Wayne autographs go for a decent amount so this was the only way I was going to add one of this future Hall Of Famer.
The autograph is pretty sharp and on-card, well I mean on-manufactured football.

Thoughts on today's card and if you own a Sweet Spot Panel Sig (baseball or football) and who below in comments!

A Bump And Run Trade Mail Day!

Recently I was contacted by Trevor over at Bump and Run Football Cards Blog about doing a PWE trade. It took me awhile to get some stuff together for him as the searching can sometimes be a process, but I was able to send him some stuff and was blown away yesterday by what he sent me.

It was one of those moments I hoped to had sent enough as the amount of cards I sent really differed. It appears I need to be taught the ropes on how to send a well packed PWE of goodies. Something he and Gavin both know really well.

Up first, some G-Men. I really liked the Gridiron release. I wished Panini could had done that again. The photography in the set was amazing. The Fleer Sherrard brings me back to when I first started buying more football. I bought a ton of that product. I owned every insert set because of it.

Shiny and NY Giants, SCORE! New Randle for my PC as well. Wonder what he is doing this year??..Anyways, marks Randle number 105.

More Giants and a well fitting parallel in Rookie and Stars with True Blue. I surprisingly didn't have the Jason Seahorn or the Tyrone Wheatley from the 90's.

Speaking of the 90's, loved these! Phillips never really panned out, unless you are talking prison, but the card is really cool. The Hilliard/Westbrook insert not only rocks, but it's shiny!

This is an insert I have wanted a card of for years!! I saw it on Trevor's box break of 1997 Zenith Football and had to request for it. Very cool lenticular motion!

I also went and checked out his cards for trade. I never realized I lacked this Griffey from my collection. 1997 New Pinnacle. Griffey number 828.

And to close out the mail day, I really needed a Shane Vereen auto. It's in that bloody awful Patriots uniform, but I still like it. Just gotta put my thumb over their helmet as I am right now.

A big thanks goes out to Trevor for these awesome card adds and for expanding my trade circle.. I look forward to another trade in the future and next time I plan on sending a few extra cards.

Be sure to check out his blog as well. Great stuff going on over at Bump and Run Football Cards Blog.
