REVIEW:2019 Donruss Optic Football Box 1

Optic, definition to me, a chromed card version of Donruss. Well, it's actually probably everyone's definition.

I have never had any success with Optic, but always like checking it out regardless usually in retail form.

This time however, I am digging into a hobby box or two actually. This one will be a review of it with the overall insight and the second box will just be showing how I did opposed to this one.

So, enough with my jibber jabber and let's see the rip!

Every box of 2019 Optic football has 20 packs of 4 cards. There is one autograph and 10 parallels per box. Boxes are running close to $150 right now.

BASE:
The 200 card base set, includes veterans

rookies (yes there is a Saquon Hampton again for me)

And Rated Rookies. Looks like most boxes only come with 6 Rated Rookies per box. I didn't land any of the huge names such as Murray, Jones or Haskins.

PARALLELS
There is no shortage of parallels in this chrome-type product. They fall 1:2 packs as well.
Here is an overall look at the parallels

BASE PARALLELS: Holo, White Sparkle, Aqua /299, Orange /199, Blue /150, Red /99, Orange Scope /79, Purple /50, Black Pandora /25, Purple Stars FOTL /25, Gold /10, Green /5, Gold Vinyl 1/1.
ROOKIE/RATED ROOKIE PARALLELS: Holo, Bronze, Green Velocity, Pink, Red/Yellow, White Sparkle, Aqua /299, Orange /199, Blue /150, Red /99, Orange Scope /79, Purple /50, Black Pandora /25, Purple Stars FOTL /25, Gold /10, Green /5, Gold Vinyl 1/1.
and here are my pulls

Holo or plain silver

Aqua /299

Orange /199

Blue /150

INSERTS:
There's not a lot of inserts per box, which isn't a bad thing, but they look pretty cool I think. They should have added parallels to these since it's this type of product. That part was a bit disappointing.
Elite Series veterans and rookies. There are 30 in the veterans version and 22 for the rookies.

1999 Tribute has 15 cards to collect

Power Formulas. There are 15 to collect in this series

HITS
Well, not the greatest hit ever. but, fits my theme of Optic breaks.

Other hits not found in my box but could be in yours includes,
  • Rookie Patch Autographs
  • Rookie Dual Autographs
  • Rookie Triple Autographs
  • 1998 Tribute Autographs
  • 1999 Tribute Autographs
  • Dynamic Patch Autographs
  • Elite Series Autographs
  • Elite Series Rookies Autographs
  • Fans of the Game Autographs
  • Legendary Patch Autographs
  • Power Formulas Autographs
  • Rookie Kings Autographs
  • Donruss Threads
  • Rookie Phenoms
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Well, I love the look of the product and my wife agrees. She helped break this box and was especially fond of the parallels. I do feel the box price is definitely a tad high for the return but there are also plenty of great hits to find as well.

This may be the first product I put a base set together of in 5 years of newer stuff. Will update that if I come to a decision to do so.

You can Google a checklist to see the overall look at the product. I can't seem to locate one on their website to link you to.

REVIEW:2019-2020 Panini Origins Basketball

I have always liked Origins when it came to football cards a few years back, my only complaint about the release was the use of 00 jersey numbers on the rookies. I have never busted a basketball break of it before. But, one is to assume, that 00 jerseys don't exist in basketball other than being a number so I was pretty excited about being able to give a box a go.

Especially with this years strong rookie class led by Zion and Morant.

Let's see how my first break of Origins goes.

Every box of 2019-2020 Origins comes with one pack with 7 cards per pack. There will be two hits per box with a mixture of autographs and relics. Boxes remain high because of the strong rookie class and can be found $120-$150 so a tad of a high end product.

BASE CARDS.
The base have the "artsy" look to them with team colors specific. I think it blends well together.

The card backs however are a tad bland and have no statistics of the player featured. I personally am a man of numbers so I like to see stats on my cards.

There are 90 cards overall in the base set including rookies and veterans.

My second base card. I was a little disappointed he wasn't featured in a Pelicans uniform.

Rookie card find.

PARALLELS
The parallels were at first hard to find, but it has to do with the coloring behind the player. Instead of white, you will find a color and possibly some numbering.

Here is a red parallel. The name is also in a rainbow foil

 Blue /99

Here are the other parallels you can find within the product, Red, Blue /99, Orange /75, Pink /35, Turquoise /25, Purple FOTL /21, Gold /10, Green /5, and Black 1/1.

HITS:

My first hit is this....WHAT IN THE SAM HILL.... on card autograph? smudge? a few dots and a line? is this in code? Anyways, you should get one on card autograph per box

My second hit was this blue Rookie Jersey autograph of Jordan Poole. This is a Turquoise /25

Other hits not found my box but could be in yours includes,
  • Rookie Autographs Set Checklist
  • Autographs Set
  • Rookie Auto Booklet Patch
  • Six Star Signatures
  • Origins Memorabilia
  • Rookie Jumbo Jerseys
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Well, at least I saved some good hits for you guys by breaking this one. The box was rough, but I like what I see from the product overall. Solid design throughout and some big names to hit for both rookies and veterans. I always like it when a product has some solid veteran content so you are not mainly focused on rookies.

You can Google a checklist to see the overall look at the product. I can't seem to locate one on their website to link you to.

Let's Talk About Sets Volume 25:1995 Fleer Football

Base sets in the 90's were so much bigger than today's.

Most sets from today average about 100 cards some even 50. Occasionally Topps will put out a 400-500 one and Panini may punch out the 200 but what every happened to bigger sets. More player inclusion?!

One of the bigger sets I am chasing is 1995 Fleer football with 400 cards. It has taken me awhile to narrow some of it down but luckily I recently had some help from @CardpocalypseNC that stripped some of the needs away.

I know many don't like 1995 Fleer and all of it's wackiness designs, but for some reason, I do.

I like the fact there are many different designs that make up one base set and I especially enjoyed the inserts that came along with it.

These were the designs for it.

Here are my remaining needs. Still a mountain to climb with this one,
390,388,385,376,371,370,367,363,359,356,349,348,347,346,323,318,314,313,312,310
307,302,299,294,288,285,284,283,282,281,280,279,278,277,276,275,274,262,258,256,255,253,249
246,241,231,227,222,220,201,190,183,114,110,100,92,90,66,63,59,50,47,39,37,35,30,28,22,12,10,8
,6,2

This set is always in the back of my mind to finish, but once again the mind drifts when I should be focused on finishing up one set at a time. It is what it is but I know someday I will get this and many others done.

Breakin' Wax:2019 Playoff Football Blaster Box

I really wanted to bust some football cards from 2019 since I didn't do much, so my wife went to Walmart and surprised me with a blaster of 2019 Playoff Football.

There are 56 cards in each box and one guaranteed hit. I wasn't expecting anything big, was just hoping for some PC cards.

the base card design is nice. Not a lot of action shots but mainly focused on players which is fine. However, I am a tad disappointed that Kurt Warner had two cards in the base set but neither were him in a Giants uniform...

The base set does however does include many legends of the game including Earl Campbell

and of course veterans like Evan Engram

Rookies

and even a Darius Slayton. Still need the other Giants including Daniel Jones.

I know of a Hook 'Em fan that will enjoy this card I will send sometime. This is a green parallel.

These blasters also include a shot at 2nd down parallels that are /49. Not too bad of a find here.

These Star Gazing inserts are pretty sharp! Antonio Brown

And Baker Mayfield finds for those.

Ooooooh I really like these Air Commands. Really well done Panini! Drew Lock looks to be a stud down the road.

Another great looking insert. Except half the Lightning no longer is a Ram

And once again, another great looking card in this product. Had to be an Eagle of course but now I know I need the Giants of these.

My hit, well, an Eagle. I once again really like the design on this as well. Need to find the Jones and Slayton versions.

Not a bad break at all in my opinion. Got a couple PC cards and a few decent hits. Mainly I am digging the overall design of the product. Really stood out to me this year.

What are your thoughts?

Rodney's Cardboard:1994 Topps Uncut Sheet

I kept seeing this 1994 Topps uncut sheet featuring Rodney Hampton pop up on eBay a few times. So with one of my last gift cards I made a $7 offer on the listed $10 item. They turned it down.

Wow.

It's Rodney Hampton with a bunch of other guys, sorry Rod Woodson. And they wouldn't take $7.

I had given up because there was no way I was paying more than that and even still that was being generous. I just wanted it enough to offer that much.

Well, somehow or another while looking up parallels, I found another one of these sheets under $5! Sweeeeeet!

Here she is in all it's beauty. And no, I am not cutting them apart :) Full sheet add is a great PC piece. I just gotta figure out a way to store it now. That's the problem with any oversized card. Gotta make sure it doesn't get ruined.

Another uncut sheet next week! That one may make you hungry.

Do you guys collect uncut sheets?

Kerry Collins Of The Week Part 1

Welcome to the latest segment here on SCC!

It's the Kerry Collins of the week adds. I don't know how long I will keep this segment going, depends on response, but I thought I would show off some recent additions to my growing Kerry Collins PC.

That PC has now hit over 300 different cards out of 2,000+ different so there is still a long ways to go, but I am fine with that.

I was originally going to move this to the Saturday slot in place of $25 A Week Challenge and treat it like I do the Rodney Hampton on Sunday's by doing it card by card, but I decided it was simply too hard to keep up that way with as hard and fast as these were coming in.

So here we go with Week 1!

1996 Collectors Edge Advantage Crystal Cuts silver

2004 Prestige X's

1997 Bowmans Best Mirror Image Refractor

1997 Topps Mystery Finest Bronze

1998 Pacific Paramount Personal Bests

1995 Pinnacle GameBreakers

2002 Fleer Ultra Gold Medallion

1995 Classic SP2 COA sealed pack Kerry Collins Autograph

Well, some solid finds this week. Next week, stay tuned for even more!
