As most readers of this blog or followers of my Twitter account know, I love 90's Spx and have been trying to knock down every set/card I can from every sport.
It's not as easy as it sounds.
I have so far completed:
1996, 1997, 1998 Spx football base sets
1996 Spx racing
1997 Spx racing
1996 Spx hockey
1997 Spx baseball
1997-1998 Spx basketball
1996 Spx football Tribute cards and the Tribute autographs
And am close to these ones,
1997 Spx hockey (13 away)
1996 Spx baseball (13 away)
1996 Spx basketball (need just the MJ)
1996 Spx hockey Holoview Heroes (just a couple remain)
So there is still much, much more to go with inserts, autographs and parallels.
Today is one of those parallel sets, this is 1998 Spx football Steel which fell 1:1 packs in a three card pack. I found a 42 card lot, with 50 in the total set, for $3.24. Yes, $3 and 24 cents. That's a steal.
The lot also included a lot of big names as well.
the stack kicked off with Jake Plummer
Aikman
Sanders
The Favre which in itself sells for almost $4
Ike
Rice
And Eddie George.
I was shocked that this ended so cheaply and that I was able to close out most of this parallel set in one swoop.
Now I just got to find the last 8 cards to get this completed and will update those numbers on here soon.

Let's Talk About Sets Volume 33:1999 Topps Chrome Football
The fourth edition of Topps Chrome from the 90's, the final one I am chasing as well has just begun the chase for me and for some reason or another, I don't have this one updated yet on here.
It's definitely not too far done. Maybe four or five cards. So any help with this one would be greatly appreciated.
There are 165 cards in the base set and include some great rookies like Donovan McNabb, Edgerrin James and Tim Couch. Yeah I threw him on here.
I will be updating my numbers for this set soon.

$25 A Week Challenge Week 13:90's And Today
Another week is over and you know what that means, another week of additions for a value under $25.
First up, I found these 90's jersey cards. What's interesting about these, they are called team threads but have no specific player wearing them, no word if they are game used.
From my research after the purchases, they have a replica jersey swatch embedded that is not game used or even worn by the player. Must be where some of the companies today got their idea from for player worn jerseys.
First up, Eddie George I grabbed for $2 shipping
Up next, Kauffman for $1.25 plus .99 shipping
I needed this Daniel Jones rookie so for $3 plus $2.90 shipped for an Optic, I will take that.
Overall this week, I went under $25 again with $21.13.
What will I pick up next week, only time will tell. You just never know what you will see me find.

And then a Davis for $5 plus .99 shipping. I originally thought about doing a set up until I found out they are not game worn. I should had known by the price. I will say though, incredible design and good size swatches especially on these 1998 ones of Kauffman and Davis. They should do these designs for companies today.
And then I grabbed this Dwayne Haskins Prizm for my Prizm rookies for $5. Haskins showed some life down the stretch and took control as the Redskins QB. Should be a good year 2.
Overall this week, I went under $25 again with $21.13.
What will I pick up next week, only time will tell. You just never know what you will see me find.

Looking For A Stud
Long before Panini and Topps started tossing their jewels around, yeah I know that came out wrong, Action Packed put jewels, well diamond relics, into cards.
The insert line was called Studs and it was featured both in 1996 and 1997 Action Packed products. It featured NFL superstars who wore diamond stud earrings.
These were randomly inserted into hobby packs at a rate of one in 167 packs and features a genuine diamond chip in their earring stud.
There was also only 1500 sets produced, which at the time made them extremely rare and I would say that continues true to today.
I had always longed to own a card from the set and recently found a couple of really cheap ones for the 1997 version on eBay. When I mean cheap, I am talking under $10.
After picking up the couple and got them in hand, I then began to get addicted and started to chase the nine card set.

One by one, I was chipping away, see what I did there and felt like stud for doing so. I mean, who goes back to 1997 and collects such a hard set instead of prospecting? Well, I do.
Let's check out the gallery, shall we?
Keyshawn Johnson
Robert Smith
Kordell Stewart
Deion Sanders
Barry Sanders
Jerry Rice
But, if you have been counting along, I have only 8 of the 9 in the set. The ninth, is Emmitt Smith. There are only two on eBay that I can find and both are $60+ and the cheaper of the two is not in great condition. The more expensive one is graded and costs over $100. Not cash I have.
I am not sure if this is the end of the set, I don't like leaving things open like this. But, if that's it and if it's where I have to settle, I will. But, it doesn't mean I won't keep an eye out on a cheaper one. Someday I think these will dry up and won't be found at all. If you look now, you won't find some of the ones I even hav.
I must say though, I am pretty proud of how far I have come with this set and even have one towards the 1996 set with a friend picking it up for me, even though technically that was done by mistake as they were going to grab the 1997 version but I will take it. I will be sure to show that one off soon as well.
And who knows, the 1996 version has only 6 in it and I am already one down.....

$25 A Week Challenge Week 3:A Mixed Bag
Okay, okay, I know what you are wondering. What crazy stuff did I grab this week?
Well, a mixed bag my friends! That's all you can expect!
I have stated when I started this series that my hobby is wide open most of the time and I will grab anything that I see fitting my collection.
Take this pack of 1997 Fleer Football I scored for only $2.99 and free shipping. There's nothing spectacular about it and I don't even plan to open it as of writing this. Just a memory to have.
This Rueben Randle has been in my dreams since I laid eyes on it. It was first posted on Twitter by my buddy Richard and I tried ever so hard to trade for it, but he wanted to hold onto it as it is a pretty cool swatch on the card. But, recently he announced selling off most of his collection, I found this on eBay. It was a tad high for me with such a small budget, so I messaged him and he kindly came down in price for me. So I scored this cool card for $12 and $3.70 shipping.
If you have read this blog, you know I fall in love with 90's inserts extremely fast if they catch my eye. So when these 1997 Playoff Leather popped up for .99 auction, I threw my bid in. The good news, nobody else did.
Same seller had this for .99 auction to and I won it alongside the George with $3 combined shipping.
A little info on these, they fell 1:24 packs and features 18 players in the set, yes I am seeing it after getting these in hand. The cards have foil alongside genuine leather, which you can still smell, die cut helmet resembling older glory days of football ones. Cards look even cooler in person as most do.
So this weeks grand total is $22.68. We didn't need to spend all of the $25 this week to have a lot of fun.
Let's pass the question onto you, I want to hear in comments what you would have grabbed this week for $25. It can be one card or can be packs, toys, figures, or whatever as long as it's $25 or below.
Thanks for reading and stay tuned til next week!

First Trades Are Always The Biggest
@StephenJFurlong, and I have been Twitter buddies for awhile now. Fellow NY Giants fans too.
Same goes for these Red Sox cards even though I did like the Ortiz bat relic. But, I have a major trade going on with a Red Sox fan and needed more pieces for the trade to try and complete it.
Two more players I enjoyed from the 90's. My father-I wonder if I have a picture-looked like Randy Johnson from the 90's with the longer scraggly hair and he is a bit tall. Gwynn I just enjoyed because he was a great player that didn't get enough recognition.
I always like adding a guy's autograph in Cooperstown and a new Yankee relic add with a pants swatch from Reggie. Love my pinstripe relics.
Another fun vintage add. Well, vintage player. I like older player relics.
I really liked this Jorge Posada relic. I didn't have a relic of his besides a bat one. The Manny relic is for my Sox fan.
Eddie George was another one of those 90's guys. Maybe I should just start a 90's guys PC after this mail day. I just snagged them for fun.
Stephen threw a bunch of extras in the trade which I didn't separate out on here. Examples are of former Giants like Derek Hagan. My first autograph of his.
More 90's guy love
And some more former NY Giants adds. I like the Pascoe and Hixon autographs.
Travis Beckham looked good the few times he played. Just never completely panned out at TE. I always kept him on Madden and used him because of his 84 Spd.
A couple more former Giants. Thomas was an on and off player and Rivers only played a little while for the Gmen. I was pretty happy to have him the short time they did. This dual relic is pretty sweet.
Warrick was a huge name back when he was drafted but never quite lived up to all of the hype not like Jevon Kearse. Offenses feared him. This is my first relic of his.
more freebies Stephen threw in. Owens, Roy Williams (safety), Steve Smith (Panthers WR, and Antonio Gates relics.
A few more freebies along with an Alstott that I claimed. I just wanted a relic of his and hopefully an autograph one day. 90's guy.
90's autographs, just 'cause.
Kevin Faulk was the best of the 90's autographs I grabbed. He had a few decent seasons in New England. I always had a thing for the '99 Collectors Edge Advantage.
And for the finale of part one, some more 90's freebies! Maybe I should add the Powerdeck disks to my Sets Of My Childhood.
If you enjoyed Part 1 gallery, well, stay tuned for Part 2 as that is going to get even bigger.
Recently he was moving some cards and contacted me about a possible trade. I wasn't sure what to expect him to pull out and offer my way but when I finally saw the gallery of magic, I knew we would have to work out a major trade.
So we did.
In this trade, I hit major PC areas, crossed a major autograph off from my want list (posting tomorrow) and grabbed some fun cards just because.
So let's take a look at the big chunk of the mail day today and lead up to the bigger "meats"of tomorrow.
Chipper and Vlad. I really liked Vlad and can't explain why so when I saw this bat relic I grabbed it. As for Chipper, I wanted it to use as a trading piece.

Nuttin But The Hits:All Star Sports Touchdown Autograph Photo Break
My buddy and daily reader, Grady M, picked me up one of these cool 8x10 autograph packs from All Star Sports in Ohio. The pack was only $20 so it may seem like a steal and there was also only 25 of these packs made with one containing a Dak Prescott auto.
Did I pull Prescott? Read on!
My first auto was Brown's DT Danny Shelton
My second autograph was Brian Hartline.
My third was Duke Johnson
My fourth was the best up to this point in Terrell Pryor.
Then some boom to end it. Eddie George. George played for the Titans in the 90's and was a great back to watch. He finished his career in Dallas where he didn't make as much of an impact.
Overall, I found this to be well worth the price. There were three mediocre autos but the final two definitely paid for the envelope.
What do you guys think?
