REVIEW:2018 Topps Allen And Ginter Baseball

Allen and Ginter is a product loved by many. Some don't even know why but they gotta have it. I just enjoy the product because of it's quirkiness and the addition of non sport celebrity content. As we all know, I have been collecting deeper into the non sport world than I used to.

My last two breaks of this product have been solid, however there was a bit of a surprise when it came to busting this years. What was it? Well, read on.

Every box of 2018 Topps Allen And Ginter baseball comes with 24 packs of 8 cards each. Boxes come with three hits along with,
  • 12 Base Short Prints
  • 24 Mini Base Parallels
  • 12 Full-Size Inserts
  • 4-5 Mini Inserts
And boxes run about $95

Each box also comes with a boxloader. There are also autographed versions but I am never that lucky.

Mine was a Yankee however. Not too shabby!

The base set for Allen and Ginter pretty much stays the same on a yearly basis. They are always a few minor tweaks but other than that, the design is the same. As for the checklist, that includes players of today,

 yesterday,

 Tomorrow,

Some non sport actors like I spoke of above.

 And some quirkiness

Overall the base set is 300 cards with 50 cards more for the Sp's that fall 1:2 packs.

The base cards have parallels of Silver Glossy which are only found in a Hobby Hot Box and 1/1. Tough finds for both.

One of the things about Ginter I do get a little tired with, are the mini's. These are hard to store and are always falling onto my lap from a pack. Kind of annoying. You will find one mini per pack.

Mini's also have parallels of Allen And Ginter back that falls 1:5 packs.

And black border that falls 1:10 packs.

Other parallels include,
  • No Number
  • Brooklyn Back /25
  • Gold
  • Glow in Dark
  • Wood 1/1
  • Glossy 1/1
  • Framed Printing Plates 1/1.
There are also mini inserts to find as well.

Baseball superstitions is a tough find at 1:50 packs, Flags of Lost Nations falls at 1:50 packs,
Indigenous Heroes falls 1:10 packs and an unannounced mini insert with no odds.

Now onto the full sized inserts offered.

Baseball Equipment of the Ages falls 1:6 packs. There are 30 cards to collect.

Fantasy Goldmine falls 1:4 packs and has 50 cards in the set.

Magnificent Moons has 10 cards and falls 1:6 packs.

Worlds Greatest Beaches has 10 cards that fall 1:6 packs.

World Talent has 50 cards at 1:4 packs.

And one per box should be one of these Home Run Challenge inserts. I pulled an okay one.

Now onto the hits! One of my favorite parts of Ginter. I was hoping for something quirky, which leads me to another topic. There were many fans complaining about the product because of hits like that. Celebritites and the Mini Fabled Relics and the Employee Autographs and so on. Well, hate to tell them this but this IS WHAT'S BEEN IN GINTER FOR YEARS. When buying this product you are expecting to take a chance and hit something non baseball. It's been that way from the beginning. So if you don't like relics or autographs like that, you should probably just stick to singles or buy another product.

Now back to the hits. Which this time fell flat. I was missing a hit even. Yes, only got two hits in my box and both were single color relics.

Andrus

Pujols. Who I am sad passed Griffey Jr on the Home Run list especially being linked to PED's.

Other hits not found in my box, even though one of these should have  been, but can be in yours includes,
  • Framed Mini Non-Baseball Autographs
  • Full-Size Non-Baseball Autographs
  • Framed Mini Baseball Autographs
  • Framed Mini Employee Autographs
  • Autograph Relic Book Card (Single Player)
  • Autograph Relic Book Card (Dual Player)
  • Cut Signatures
  • Framed Mini Relics
  • Framed Mini DNA Relics
  • Framed Mini Fabled Relics
  • Mini Sunken Treasure Relics
  • World's Greatest Beaches Relics
  • A&G Rip Cards
  • A&G Double Rip Cards
  • Artist Originals
OVERALL: If you liked Ginter in the past, you will again. I guess for me it's hard to judge how this box would have valued out at without knowing what that final hit would have been. I guess if you look at it the way it is, well, there's a huge loss with two plain relics. But, who knows which incredible other hit I could have found.

Oh and by the way, if you have a Jon Lovitz auto from this product and want to trade it,  I would be all over that.

Please take a minute out to thank Topps for providing the box to review. Some of the cards you see above will be included in the Fantasy Baseball contest! Follow Topps on all social media sites and check out their website HERE for cards and more!
