QB Battles to watch for 2012

A lot of QB battles look to be on for 2012 NFL season.

Kevin Kolb vs John Skeleton..... CARDINALS
Matt Hasselbeck vs Jake Locker..... TITANS
Ryan Tannehil vs David Garrard vs Matt Moore.... DOLPHINS
Blaine Gabbert vs Chad Henne..... JAGUARS
Tim Tebow vs Mark Sanchez..... JETS
Russel Wilson vs Matt Flynn vs Tavaris Jackson...SEAHAWKS

Some of these may have obvious answers. But ones like Kolb and Skeleton and Hasselbeck and Locker and the Seattle battle keep me intrigued. And below I break those three down.

Kolb I thought was overpaid and that Arizona gave up way too much for a guy who was unproven. I believe in the end Kolb will retain the spot. Not because he is any better than Skeleton who won five games as a starter for Arizona, but because the Cardinals put so much into him.

Hasselbeck is the veteran and has been around for what seems forever. But when he went down last year and Jake Locker stepped in, Locker proved he was worthy of being a top 10 pick. And because he looked sharp at points and that he was drafted in the top 10 I believe he will be the starter. Whether its at the beginning of the season, or by week 6. But having Hasselbeck there to help him along with his progressions.

And as for the three way battle in Seattle...Jackson had his chance so he will be third on the depth chart if not released in training camp. Matt Flynn will start the season as the starter. They way overpaid for a guy who only had one great game in his career. I think this is a Kolb situation. They will test him early, if he doesn't step up and play well and Seattle starts off slow..they will put the exciting player in Wilson on the field. And from the sounds of it..Seattle has been very excited about his play in rookie mini camps.

Most of the talk about the QB battles will be on Sanchez and Tebow. To me, there is nothing to that. Tebow is not a throwing QB. Plain and simple. They brought him in to help with their lack of running game. Sanchez is the starter.

If you have any thoughts on the QB battles and think there is another I missed or you think a different starter will be put in place. Just comment below!

  1. Alright, here's my take on it:

Kevin Kolb vs John Skeleton..... CARDINALS

This one is probably the most mysterious. Neither QB has any particular advantage over the other. If I were the head coach, I'd flip a coin before every game and say "Go!" to whoever won. Seriously. But mostly, the Cardinals are screwed.

Matt Hasselbeck vs Jake Locker..... TITANS

I like this QB Battle. The veteran Hasselbeck versus the young gun Jake Locker. Clearly the Titans want Locker to take over the starting position as soon as he's ready, but will they rush him in hoping for a little Cam Newton-esque awesomeness? Maybe. I hope not, because I think Locker has a lot of potential to become a very good quarterback if he's given the time to develop and not rushed into anything.

Ryan Tannehil vs David Garrard vs Matt Moore.... DOLPHINS

Ahhh, a 3-way battle to be King of the Fish. Personally, I'd like to see Matt Moore just because he shares the same name with the ace rookie pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays. Gotta love it when two organizations have at the helm two guys who have the same name... but aren't the same person.

Blaine Gabbert vs Chad Henne..... JAGUARS

HA HA HA! Chad Henne... Blaine Gabbert has this one in the bag.

Tim Tebow vs Mark Sanchez..... JETS

The Nation's eyes will all be trained on THIS QB Battle all freaking season long. I like Tebow. A lot. He's an all around great guy and he's very resourceful on the field and had that just remarkable run with the Broncos last season. Then you have Sanchez, who wears Uggs. Rex Ryan will likely make the same mistake that the Broncos made with Tebow and keep him in the reserves letting Sanchez fall on his face repeatedly until they're JUUUUUST out of the playoffs only for Tebow to ride in on the wings of the Archangel Michael himself to guide the team to the playoffs. Except lightning usually doesn't strike twice. It's unlikely. The sad truth is Tebow probably won't get the playing time he deserves until a team is ready to commit to his play style as the framework for their organization, and then once Tebow is gone or if he gets hurt the organization is largely screwed... it's just too much risk. So, unfortunately he'll probably see a lot of time on the sidelines for his career, which is just a waste of talent. Maybe they'll make a 33rd expansion team just for him. They can be... the Toronto Templars. Canada loves football, eh?

Russel Wilson vs Matt Flynn vs Tavaris Jackson...SEAHAWKS

HA HA HA! Tavaris Jackson. I just love laughing at some of these athletes. They're talented, much moreso than I am, but if at any point your quarterback played for the Minnesota Vikings, and then the Vikings realized that they weren't that good, YOU SHOULD TAKE THAT AS AN INDICATOR NOT TO PUT THEM ON YOUR TEAM! The Seahawks are goofy, and this battle just isn't that interesting.
