It was a little slow early on with reports on the Giants free agents moves with so much explosion from other teams. I don't think I have ever seen a crazier offseason already then this one.
There were a few rumors here and there with the Giants and a few players that they targeted that signed elsewhere, but at the end of the day, the Giants ended up bringing in five new faces on Day 1 of free agency. Those players consisted of OL Marshall Newhouse who will help give the Giants depth at Oline, MLB J.T. Thomas who showed some signs of promise in Jacksonville last year and gives the Giants LB depth and LB/ST Jonathan Casillas who is a big time player on special teams and can play both OLB positions.
My two favorite pickups on Day 1 were RB Shane Vereen, who gives the Giants a player who has versatility and excellent hands out of the backfield. That's something that the two running backs on the roster already in Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams don't have. This gives Eli Manning another option in what could be the best Giants offense I have ever seen.
My other favorite was KR/WR Dwayne Harris who gives the Giants an explosive return guy they have been desperately needing. He also is turning into a possible WR threat, but I expect him more in the return game then anything else unless Victor Cruz doesn't come back 100%. You have also got to look at this signing as taking another explosive player away from the Cowboys.
Overall, I think the Giants did good in Day 1. I think Day 2 they need to focus on getting a Safety immediately, it's a position they have nothing of since Antrel Rolle and Stevie Brown hit the market. I also hope they take a look at a DE since they lacked a true pass rusher opposite of JPP. Offensive Lineman depth wouldn't be the worse idea either.
JT Thomas is from my alma mater West Virginia. Glad to see his career developing since he wasn't a high draft pick.
