End Of 2023

It's late, I know.

And I am not usually someone who stays up late on New Years Eve, but I felt like I couldn't go to sleep without putting up some kind of year end post like most bloggers have.

In the past, I have put up a post recapping my best pulls of the year. Well, I opened no hobby boxes and very little retail this year and there wasn't anything special to post about. Literally nothing.

Other times I would post about my best card from a trade of the year, but I can't think of one card that really stood out above the others I acquired this year. It was a down year for trading.

So, what will I post about? Well, it won't be about my hobby financial woes of 2023 or how I didn't reach my goal of 1,000 Eli Mannings by years end or how I didn't complete any of the sets I wanted to or open any of the wax I had hoped for.

I want this year to end out on a positive note.

I want to look at the positive parts of 2023 in my hobby.

For one, I closed the gap on getting to 1,000 Eli Mannings. I was well over one hundred away and I got it all the way down to three.

Two, I got caught up on a lot of sorting. Some of those cards sat around for a year and a half!!

Three, I was able to finally begin my binder numbering project. This was a project I had wanted to accomplish for so many years and finally took time to do some of it.

Four, I was able to re-organize my card area and move things into better positions where I can access stuff quicker. This was big as a lot of my stuff was hard to access and now trading can come easier when opportunities arise.

And finally, the biggest highlight was being able to write for BCW Supplies and Beckett online. Speaking of which, here is my latest article on Beckett, 1996 Topps Chrome Football , if you haven't read it yet. Please check it out!

This may not seem like a lot of positive, but it's something and something to grow off of for 2024.

Oh, and just to have a card for this post. This is technically the last card that came in the mail to me in 2023. It's a 2023 Certified Piece Of The Game Saquon Barkley jersey card /50. I always have had a fondness for die cut team names with the jersey swatches within the letters.

I hope all of you stay safe tonight, make smart decisions and that you will be around to read a new post on here for tomorrow.

Happy New Year, God Bless and here is hoping that 2024 is better for all of us!

Driven

I am driven.

This year I am driven to blog more than ever and it's all because of you guys.

Thank you.

When looking at the results of the latest Nachos Grande 3rd Annual End Of Year awards, I noticed something immediately under the blog awards. Not one of my three blogs made any of the lists.

NONE.

Out of my almost 12-years of blogging, I don't think I have ever not made the list of blogging awards in some form or another.

Not that I am not happy for those of you who made the lists as some great blogs on here did, it just tells me I need to work harder like the ones who made it.

Here were the results to this years awards,

Last year, Cards Over Coffee made this list and pretty sure Sport Card Collectors may have been on there as well.

Same goes for Favorite Under The Radar Blog. Cards Over Coffee made an appearance on there as well.

And as you can tell here, Cards Over Coffee made this list as well last year.

Well, there isn't much I can say about this one. Night Owl Cards always rules the day for Blog Of The Year in any contest. Congrats to Greg for another victory.

Because of these results I am driven to get my name back on these lists or at least one of them. As much as I would love to win Blog Of The Year for 2024, I know where that award will go again and that's okay. Just to be back on next year's list would be the goal.

So, I decided in order to get myself back on the list, I would go back home. By home, I mean Sport Card Collectors. As Daughtry sang, "Well, I'm going home, Back to the place where I belong" and since this is where it all began, this is where I need to go.

My focus in 2024 will be to get this blog fired back up and let my other two blogs go dormant. I know there were some fans of Cards Over Coffee, but the view numbers, comments going down and not making any of these lists tell me it fell out of favor last year. But don't worry, my coffee drinking days aren't over.

The positive thing is I have so much to share from Christmas on here with some amazing cards thanks to all of you. Hope you're ready to read because I am home, and I am driven.

Keeping Busy

It has been a really busy last few weeks for me and will be for the next couple as well.

So, I thought while you wait for new, witty blog posts from myself that I would keep you busy reading a few articles that I wrote for Beckett online recently.

My series on there is called Second Look where I take a dive into sets that you may have forgotten about, but I felt needed a second look at.

The first one I did was on 1989 Upper Deck baseball that I feel is more than just a Griffey card set. Check that one out HERE.

The second article I wrote on one of my favorite All-Time insert sets in 1996 Zenith Z-Team football. You can check that one out HERE.

And the third published one is based on 1995 hit movie Batman Forever. I didn't think it was much of a hit movie wise, but the 1995 Fleer Metal Batman Forever was. If you don't remember those cards, you can read about those HERE.

I have four others that will be published soon. They haven't been on a weekly basis as I had hoped they would be, they publish randomly usually on Fridays. I would appreciate it if you guys could check these out, maybe leave a comment or click on a link or two in the articles to show support :)

When I have time to get pictures taken from all of the generous Christmas senders I had this year, there will be new blog posts. I also have a few new ideas to post on here as well.

Thanks again in advance and stay tuned for all-new posts on Sport Card Collectors! The blog will be back to full force in 2024!

BCW Holiday Supplies Winner!

Hey everyone!! I must apologize for my late announcement on this, but I ran out of time the last few days to pick a winner.

So, today I took some time to get this done and now one has been chosen.

One thing you will notice about the list is that some people are not on it. There were four that commented but did not leave their name. They were listed as anonymous so I can't put that on the list not knowing who they are and especially since there was more than one. That means anyone could claim the prize. One thing to keep in mind for future contests I host is to make sure if you comment as anonymous, you add a name to the comments as well.

Now that I have said that so nobody complains, let's pick a winner.

As always, I pick my winners on Random.Org and I randomed the list 7 times. 7 just seems to be a lucky number.

Here is what happened after 7 randoms,

There were 13 items in your list. Here they are in random order:

  1. William Carter
  2. trsimmons58
  3. Beer Barrell Breaks
  4. Zeldafanatic15
  5. Trevor P
  6. @MCL723 on X
  7. Tracy LeVeaux
  8. hudsonfan15
  9. RJ Sahl
  10. Crocodile
  11. @stuffmiami on X
  12. RUFFCUTT
  13. Nachos Grande

Congrats to William! Please message me on Twitter or email me at sportcardcollectors@hotmail.com with your address and I will pass that along to BCW as fast as I can. You have 48 hours to claim or prize goes to second place.

Thanks again to all that entered!

Kerry's Cardboard:1996 Presidents Reserve Air Force One

It's another football packed Sunday and even though my Giants have played like a 1-star high school team, I am still on board and still rooting for them to win.

I am not a fan of a team tanking for a number one draft pick. I am all about the winning, though I do want a new Quarterback next year. Sorry Daniel Jones, it's time.

If only Kerry Collins was still ready to play, he could have filled in for Jones this season and maybe things would be different. But, that boat has sailed.

At least I still can still add some Kerry's Cardboard.

Randomly inserted in packs at a rate of one in 16, my latest add is from the all-acetate product Presidents Reserve which was a one-year and done product by Collectors Edge.

This 38-card set featured the best of the long ball threats in the league. It's a two-way-view plastic card with some added shine. Each card is individually numbered out of 2,500.

As with most 90's cards, once again, this one shines above anything from today.

This was my first Collins add in awhile, may need to put some focus on him again.

Well, Giants, this Collins shined today, hoping you will as well against Washington.

Rodney's Cardboard: 1995 Pro Line Classic Game Of The Week Redemptions Rodney Hampton/Cortez Kennedy

It's Rodney's Cardboard and it's back on Sport Card Collectors...well Matt's Wonderful Blog Of Hobbies.

Today's card took me awhile to find and add to my collection as it's getting nearly impossible to find any new Rodney's now-a-days. It appears Panini's run with Rodney is over.

Before I picked up this cheap card, I messaged the seller and double checked that this card was not the foil version as I have that one. The foil version looks the same as this card but has foil with the score if that makes any sense to you.

These interactive cards were randomly inserted into packs of 1995 Pro Line. There were 30 cards in the set and the only way to acquire the card below was to be one of the first 2500 participants who submitted 10-20 different game cards with the actual winner of the game. The winners received the second prize which was a complete set of 30 NFL Pro Line winner cards with the final score of the game foil stamped on the card.

Here is the front of the card. Seattle beat the Giants that day, but in 1995 who didn't beat the Giants who finished 5-11 that season.

Back of the card tells you more about the interactive game and how to submit/etc.

I may have to think outside the box to continue Rodney's Cardboard every Sunday and maybe even re-visit some of the cards and maybe rainbows I already posted.

I think I saw a request once for that. So more Rodney to come!

Trending This Week In My Hobby Week 5

This segment hasn't been posted since August, so a lot has changed since then. In order to continue where I left off, I will post this as Week 5.

To remind you about what this segment is about, since I collect so much, there is always a main focus I have on a weekly basis. Sometimes these focuses go on for weeks and sometimes they are short lived. These posts will help guide you in what I am seeking for weekly.

Especially for those of you who are currently trading with me.

This was the Top 10 list back in August,
  1. 2022 Upper Deck Marvel Allure Parallels, Autographs

  8. Set Completing

Let's Talk About Sets Volume 62:2022 Donruss Rookie Sweater Dual Sweaters

Let's talk about sets baby, let's talk about them with me, let's talk about sets!

It's starting to get colder, sure you hope have your sweater out. Or if you are talking sets, I sure hope you have it off....and put into a Panini card.

For the past three years, I have been collecting sets of player's ugly sweaters and have done pretty well with chasing these down.

I have collected both the base and dual sets.

I have completed the 2020 base set, down to two on the dual, missing all of 2021s duals and have only three left for the  base. Then last years I am under ten for the base and down to just to two on the duals after snagging this latest one.

Aidan and Williams on this dual sweater.

All that remains now is Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson dual and the Kenny Pickett and George Pickens dual for me to complete that set.

Then the single ones.

Sets is harder for the single ones since there are so many.

In comments today, let me know if you can lend a hand with my sets needs (yes, that came out totally wrong and on purpose) by messaging me on Twitter or emailing me at sportcardcollectors@hotmail.com.

You can find all of my needs for the 2022 Donruss Rookie Sweaters HERE.

Thanks for any help!!

Giant's Sunday: Brent Sent These

It's Sunday and another Game Day for the boys in Blue. Today, the Gmen are on the road after their home beatdown by the Seahawks.

It doesn't get any easier today on the road either as they face one of the league's best teams in the Miami Dolphins.

It could get ugly fast with both sides of the ball playing terrible.

All I can hope is that this guy can get healthy and play this week. They will need him.

I keep waiting for the guys from last year to step up their game as well. Kayvon had a sack last week but otherwise wasn't around. WanDale was probably the best receiver last week but that's not saying much.

It's almost like they forgot about this guy as well. He is a speedster who has decent hands that hasn't even been apart of the offense this season.

Well, what offense they have had.

Okay, enough with my disappointing rant about this season.

Let's just look at some cards.

Always been fond of Landon Collins. Last year's Pick 6 that pretty much secured the Giants playoff spot against the Colts will always stick in my mind as the biggest play for this team since the Manningham catch in Super Bowl 46.

My third Darnay Holmes autograph.

Two relics I didn't have in my Darius Slayton PC. I am thinking some days maybe I need to put my Slayton PC on TCDB as well and see where I rank.

Julian Love autographs. I think Panini liked using this photo a few times.

Another Love autograph, but with a different photo this time.

The X-man is on the roster, but on the practice squad. He hasn't lived up to the hype that was around him for a while. I kept hoping he was going to help this pass rush that needs it.

Well, I am sure I will be watching today's game, maybe covering my eyes by the beginning of the second quarter.

Thanks again to Brent (@Brent3323) for the Giants cards. Even with a lost season, I at least have these cards to enjoy.

I must also note that Brent also sent me some stuff to help me build up a Christmas gift. Great guy!

I Enjoyed These

I wonder with it being Columbus Day, if Christopher Columbus ever discovered wrestling cards?

I know I did last week.

Usually, I am not a fan at all of wrestling, but when one of my mail days last week included some wrestling cards they caught my eye.

There was something appealing about them.

First off, these Revolution cards look superb. Brings me back to the 90's Revolution days and the image for Macho Man used on the Revolution design also is outstanding.

SNAP INTO A SLIM JIM!!

I have never watched John Cena wrestle, but have seen him in a few movies. Select always looks great no matter the sport, but this image also brings this card out with a 3D appeal.

And finally, this image with my past history of enjoying horror movies, works well. I have no idea what this entrance is or was, but it's crazy scary and I am aboard.

It's a perfect card for October.

Before I finish up this post, I just wanted to point out I don't plan on collecting wrestling cards. I already have too much I collect.

Though, I may add a couple more Prizmatic Entrance cards of Bliss, that card is just cool.

Let's Talk About Sets Volume 61: 2022 Upper Deck Marvel Allure Base Set

Let's talk about sets baby, lets talk about sets with me. Let's collect them all and complete it to, let's talk about sets.

Today as I sit down with you and discuss sets, I am thinking about all of the sets I need still. I am not sure if they will ever all be completed, but maybe.

The last time I put up one of these posts it was for the 1991 Pro Set Musicards that I still need to complete along with the second series.

Today is the only other non-sport set I am chasing, and it comes along with my new addiction to Marvel movies.

My set chase for this one started off with a blaster box break then expanded to some trading to help narrow my list down some.

Which got me down to these out of the 150-card checklist. 100 is the base set, 50 are Sp's.

I hope I can finish up this one and the Musicards set.

If you have any set help for this one or either, just drop me an email at sportcardcollectors@hotmail.com and let me know. I always genuinely appreciate all help!

Single Card Mail Day:2022 Select Autograph Matt Breida

Anytime I can add a Giants autograph I don't have yet, I am going to.

Last year Panini added two Giants to their Select product I didn't expect to make a product in a Giants uniform, but I was excited that they did.

The first one was Jaylon Smith who I added a few months ago, the other was Matt Breida. Both players the Giants added to their roster a year ago with Breida being the only one of the two still on the roster. For some reason or another, Breida was overpriced until I found a cheaper one and snagged it.

The bonus for the card is the fact that it's also a nice-looking card.

I will be sure to watch the checklists again to see if any new Giants make the Panini roster for this season.

Tradin' With Dion Again!

My trading has cut back a lot and definitely has cut back when it comes to trading with bloggers. It's hard to be a football and non-sport collector in a world of baseball card bloggers. Luckily, there are still a few bloggers left that collect or have cards that I need which is what led me to another trade with  Dion's Autograph Collection blog.

It gets harder to land Giants cards I don't have from the past, but last year and this year with my lack of funds, it will make it easier on people to trade with me as I don't have much.

But, sometimes there are exceptions to older cards (by older I am talking early 90's and 2008 til 2021) like this Sterling Shepard Prizm silver.

However, when it comes to Allen and Ginter, I don't mind duplicates.

Or these First Pitch cards. At some point, I really need to see what I need to finish all of the sets for the First Pitch series. I still think this is one of Topps most creative inserts in their base products in a while. Much better than those 86 and 87 reprint inserts I hate.

Thanks again to Dion for the trade and I know we are already working on the next which should be another good one.

Hopefully I can make a few more trades after this one so I can continue to put up new posts.

Cardboard Review:BCW LaserWeld 9-Pocket Pages

I had thought about posting some new Giants cards I have in drafts today, but after last night's embarrassing game topped off with the entire start of this season, I said, nah. Let's go to something else.

Instead, let's do a product review instead.

BCW announced not too long ago, that they had created a new 9-Pocket Page that is supposed to be top notch among all other pages.
And I tend to agree.

The pages are done by laser welding, which helps strengthen the page and keep if flat without bending. The heavy gauge polypropylene helps with that as well.

Upon first glance, the page is crystal clear and when you pick it up you can definitely tell the difference in thickness of the page.

Here are the pages side by side, the laserweld on the left and the regular on the right. I think you can see the difference in the pages immediately.

And when you add cards, the clarity stands out first. But what you guys can't see is how easy the cards slide in and it's not something I can show you, so you will have to take my word for.

Sometimes it's a struggle with some pages I have found to slide the cards in without causing some corner damage.

I know this is a short review as it's really hard to show much more when it comes to pages.

So, I thought I would include this video by BCW about these pages. Watch it here,

Overall, I really like this upgrade to the pages. Not just for the storage of cards, but I really think these will upgrade my PWE shipping as well because of the thickness.

My Other Articles

Two posts in a row on this blog and this is a late nighter. No, I am not turning into Night Owl Card Blog, I am just watching my NY Giants get shredded by Seattle.

This is going to be a long season.

What won’t be long though is this post. I just wanted to share some links to other articles I have written for other companies the last couple of years hoping you all would enjoy a late night or morning read depending on when you read this.

First article was one I had published in Beckett a couple years ago that they also put on their website. Link for that one is here:

https://www.beckett.com/news/dont-break-these-sports-card-collecting-rules/

Second article link I am sharing is a post I did about cheap shipping method for BCW. You can read that one here:

https://www.bcwsupplies.com/blog/2023/08/22/how-to-ship-cards-for-the-cost-of-a-stamp/

And finally a second article I wrote for BCW about how I number my binders and how that helps me locate cards faster is here:

https://www.bcwsupplies.com/blog/2023/09/29/binder-numbering-system/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=binder-numbering-system

I hope you guys enjoy these more than I am enjoying this game….if not, I am in for a long writing season.

Sunday's Giants: Goal Line Graph

It's Sunday and it's been a while since I posted a Giants card on Sunday.

Sundays on Sport Card Collectors used to mean Rodney's Cardboard, but with the lack of Rodney's out there that I need, I may need to do some rearranging.

Over the past year, I have maybe added three new Rodney Hamptons if that tells you how tough things have been. Two of which I have shown off with one that I haven't. Stay tuned next Sunday for that unique piece (notice how I didn't say card).

In the meantime, let's check out this Sunday's Giants card.

This is a 2020 Playbook Goal Line Graphs of Darius Slayton.

Normally I try to aim for Giant's players I don't have autographs of, but I have always fallen for cards with great photography and this one has it.

This is the second one of these I own, except the other is a blue parallel patch numbered to 49 as opposed to this base one being numbered to 199.

I am not sure how many parallels there are to these, but I don't plan on adding anymore at least anytime soon. We all know how collectors like myself can be sometimes :)

Here's hoping for a Giants win tomorrow night vs the Seahawks!!

Finally

Finally.

That's the first word that comes to mind when I think about football season starting today. It's been such a long stretch since I last watched the NY Giants play a meaningful football game.....with a cup of coffee of course.

It's time, finally.

I am really excited about this season after how last year went and with the Giants new offseason additions.

But I am also excited to see how some of last year's guys do as well that had injury prone rookie seasons that showed some potential.

Wan'Dale Robinson spent most of last season injured but made a big impression in the 6 games he did play in going for a combined 227 yards and a big touchdown against the Ravens. He has quick shifty speed and moves which will fit great in this offense.

Kayvon Thibodeaux was banged up last season, but as the season went on he got healthy and opposing teams were starting to feel it as he racked up 4 sacks, forced and recovered two fumbles turning one of those into a huge touchdown against the Commanders (still not used to calling them that). Now healthy with a hopeful full season ahead, I can't wait to see what he can do.

I like to call Daniel Bellinger the diamond in the rough they found in the 4th round.  He has great hands, can block and had some big time catches last season even though his numbers may not have shown it. Of course, he also fell to the injury bug when he got poked in the eye by a Jaguars defender and suffered a fracture around the eye socket. But he came back and played well down the stretch and even though the Giants brought in Darren Waller, I am expecting Bellinger to still be a big-time weapon.

So tonight, I will have some snacks and be watching the Giants take on the Cowboys.

Let's hope they can finally beat Dallas.

Football is back….Finally.

Did I mention finally with football yet?
