Cards Over Coffee Blog

 Hey!

Cards Over Coffee just turned Three yesterday and if you haven't read it yet, you have been missing out. It's by far my favorite blog to write and it appears this blog has now fallen out of favor for you guys as well. Lack of views, comments tells me this.

So to celebrate three years on Cards Over Coffee, I want to host a giveaway. However, I need 75 followers on that blog before I will do so. With this one being well over 100, I am sure some of you can go follow that blog as well and maybe win something. I haven't decided what the prizes will be yet, but I will find something.

Nuttin' But The Hits:2023 Bowman Baseball Blaster Box

Just like with the Prizm football I showed off this week, I feel Bowman baseball is the equivalent of when it comes to rookie cards.

I didn't have any plans on buying any originally with the prices being so steep, but once again, I found myself hooked and had to grab one.

 
Each blaster box of 2023 Bowman baseball it comes with 6 packs of 12 cards each. Blaster boxes on Target go for just under $30 while the one I grabbed at Walmart was $35. UGH!!

There are no guarantees per blaster, other than looking for rookie fun.

The base card set for Bowman comes with 100 cards including veterans

and rookies. I think I did really well with the rookies in my break and couldn't have asked for any better.

Along with base rookies, there is the top chase in Bowman with the Bowman 1st/Prospect rookie cards. This year there are 150 of them to chase.

And same goes for it's Chromed version.
  
And no, I did not pull the top chase Druw Jones in my find. I will have to find one though for my rookie card collection.

Bowman Scouts Top 100 has well, 100 cards in the set and they fall 1:4 packs.

And finally, Rookie Of The Year favorites. Pulled a couple decent ones here. There are 15 of these to collect that fall 1:8 packs.

Overall, I am pleased with my break. I landed most of the key rookies in the base set and landed some cool inserts. This will probably be my only break of Bowman for it's price unless hanger packs come out.

Nuttin’ But The Hits:2022 Prizm football Blaster Box #2

Prizm football is one of my favorite Panini products when it comes to shiny and rookie cards. I think this is THE product and it has shown in the past for both basketball and football if you are looking to have the best rookie card of someone.

So, it's a yearly chase for me trying to add the top rookies to my collection.

Despite the 2022 rookie class being a bit weak, I still was planning to buy some if I found some in the wild and did.....TWICE.

Every blaster box of 2022 Prizm football comes with 6 packs of 4 cards each. Blasters are still a bit steep at $35 each. There are no blaster guarantees.

Here were my rookie card pulls this time. Got a QB, but he will never play and my rookies overall were much weaker than box one. Overall, there are 400 cards in the base set and 100 of them being rookies so it won't be easy to find a top rookie player unless you can afford to buy a ton.

This year, it seems Panini once again upped the Parallels in Prizm. You can find the following parallels,

I believe this is a rookie variation since I don't see a sepia version above in the parallels. Hopefully this guy pans out next season.

and my one lone insert pull of Skyy Moore, Emergent. Overall, there are 20 cards to collect in the Emergent base insert set.

Overall, this is my last break of Prizm football for this year. It will be cheaper to trade for the key rookies I need.

Kerry's Cardboard:1998 Score Epix Emerald Season

I haven't posted a new Kerry Collins on here in some time despite picking up some new ones. I have though been posting some on Big Blue Cardboard that you may have been missing out on. Of course those ones only feature Kerry in a Giants uniform as opposed to here where I will feature him in any other uniform.

Today, he comes in Panthers form, my second favorite for Collins.

It also comes in 90's insert form which is right at the peak of my hobby passion.

 
1998 Score had Epix inserts that fell 1:61 packs and Kerry was on the checklist. I believe he has two overall in the Epix set for that year. I will need to track down the other still.

Moving Up!

I am moving on up in the Allan Houston rankings on TCDB. With tonight’s latest card add and a few others I have or will finally crack the Top 10 as a collector of Houston on the site once I take a second to input them.



This card isn’t anything too fancy, it’s just a Crystal Ball subset card from 1996-97 Fleer basketball.

 If I had made this card, I would have added a nice layer of rainbow foil in the back. But that’s just me, I like shiny.

Yes. You could say I am the character from Moana and I would be fine with that.

Pickett’d It Up

Thanks to a quick trade with @ErichWalter , I was able to land an autograph of one of last seasons top rookies.

Why does this fit my collection since Pickett is a Steeler and not a NY Giant, well, I like to have autographs of top guys in case they become Hall Of Famers, which is a PC.

It’s cheaper to get them while they are young.

Usually not a huge Leaf fan since they lack logos, but this is a good looking card still.

Never Tired Of This Shiff

Hey!

Just thought I would show off my latest Mikaela Shiffrin card to my PC of her.

I grabbed this one for less than $2 after it got re-listed and not bid on the first time where I missed out on it.
It’s a 2021 Goodwin Champions Splash Of Color Lenticular and it’s more spectacular than it appears on here. It actually probably ranks up there as my favorite cards of her now.

If only I could land an autograph next.

Having A Ball

Sport cards have no monetary value for me, it's all for fun.

So when I say I am having a ball in the hobby, I am.

Though that sometimes means something else as well.
Thats where David Ball comes into play.

The guy nicknamed White Rice who broke Jerry Rice’s two-plus decade long Division 1-AA record for touchdown receptions and also a guy who played for the state I live in for high school football, a team I used to vs against in high school and looking at his years of play possibly played against him, before playing for a college that’s only a state away.

He may not have gotten too far with his NFL career bouncing around practice squads including the Bears (his cards are all Bears), Jets and Eagles and multiple CFL teams, but I think it’s extremely cool he made it that far and that’s why I am chasing his cards.

So if you have any. Just let me know.

Ball currently is a PE teacher back in my state, a few hours away, and I currently have 2 cards of him. So many more to go. 

His touchdown record was also broken by Cooper Kupp back in 2016.

Who Doesn't Like Free Cards?

When I saw that The Diamond King had some freebies up for grabs, I had to at least check it out.

Most of the time, I either miss out or there are cards that better suit someone else's collection than myself.

This time there were cards I could use for my PC, but my phone has been acting up when it comes to commenting on some blogs. Some blogs such as Night Owl Cards I can comment on. Some blogs I can comment but I have to as anonymous and then add my name and then there are blogs like The Diamond King where it won't let me at all. I do most of my blog reading from my phone.

Fortunately, I had The Diamond Kings email and dropped him a quick one letting him know which cards I was interested in. Though most were claimed already due to my lack of commenting, I was still able to land a few.

Some Blog Stuff

Yeah, this is just a quick blog post and update on some blog stuff.

I promised myself at the beginning of the year that I would figure out this whole blogging situation as I am moving into a new territory in my hobby without sponsors and not doing product reviews/giveaways anymore.

But, I apparently can't make up my mind which is why you are finding me all over the place occasionally on the blogs. I just feel I have more flexibility with my posts and which blogs fit which posts better.

This blog I feel is better for the occasional retail breaks I do and for my set chasing and most mail days.

And now I have welcomed Christmas CARDS to the rotation which will have it's first posts in December around Black Friday for everything Christmas related (PLEASE CLICK ON THE BLOG NAME AND FOLLOW THIS BLOG)

And soon I will be bringing back a 90's Card related blog. Name and blog to come.

With 5 blogs in rotation, there won't be any consistency on where and when I blog. Just keep in mind I will be blogging somewhere at some point. My time has also been condensed on when I can blog so also keep that in mind if I disappear a lot, especially during the summer.

Rodney's Cardboard: Lots Of Plates

Hello and welcome back to a NEW Rodney's Cardboard.

Today, instead of posting these all individually like I had planned to that way I can stretch out this segment some, I decided to just post them all at once.

Not all of the new Rodney's, just the Printing Plates.

90's Printing Plates aren't easy to come by, but there is a seller on eBay who has a bunch, 11 to be exact more that I don't have of the legendary Rodney.

There was more than that he had until my buddy and former blogger Wes dropped a Christmas bomb on me and acquired a few others the seller had.

I already showed one of those off a few weeks ago but here are the rest of them. These feature some back plates and some front ones as well.





 

And that's all of them! All one of ones and all are mine now. For one of these upcoming Rodney's Cardboard posts I should post all of the plates I have.

Let's Talk About Sets Volume 58:1993-1994 Stadium Club Beam Team Basketball

It's been almost two years since we have had sets to talk about. Must be a married thing :)

But, let's finally sit down and talk about sets today.

In 1993-1994 Stadium Club basketball random inserted Beam Team inserts into packs. I didn't know how much I liked the cards until I landed an MJ for dirt cheap from a Yard Sale 10 years ago. From there, I wanted to set build.

With the big piece in hand, MJ, already, the rest of the set I wouldn't think would take too much of an effort to complete. Except it has and has taken me too long. I was hoping for some quick sets but it appears this one is more delicate than I expected.

 

Alonzo is my latest add to the 27-card set chase.

A Big Cup Of Giants

 
Isn't this such a cool mug? This came as a part of my gift at Christmas time from the legendary Wes formerly Area 61 and JBF blogger.

So far I haven't used the mug for it's actual purpose of holding my favorite coffee beverage but instead it has been displayed on my bookshelf with binders. I think it suits the shelf more.

While I am showing off this unique mug, I thought I would also show off my latest NY Giants card adds.

When news broke of the Daniel Jones long term deal, I knew I would be welcoming back my boy Saquon as well. I had to celebrate right? So I scored this relic card-color match for less than $5 of him

Then went on to snag this really cool looking card I hadn't seen before for under $2.

Solid deals for two great looking cards.

 
And speaking of good deals, when you can land a Top 5 pick autograph of a player who looks to be a dominating defensive player for $7 you take it.

I wished it had been in a Giants uniform but happy with what I got still. This is my second Kayvon autograph with both being in Oregon colors.

Zenith Put The Eli in Eli


I don't what it is about Spellbound or cards with lettering, but I love to collect them.

I did the Elite Spellbound Saquon a couple of years ago, but have had my eye on finishing up the Eli from 2005 Zenith Spellbound for a while now.

I finally landed the E

And the L for a decent price to finish up the trio.

However, what I didn't realize was that my I was a gold parallel until the other two arrived. So yes, it's finished but not really now. I will need to replace the I with a base one in order to satisfy my hobby OCD.
