Rodney's Cardboard:1994 Pro Line Live Printing Plate

(there isn't a lot to say about these plates as I have many to post. They are 1/1's, they are legit as you can tell the use from the backing which is completely silver, they all came from one seller, and they all came to me via Wes who blogged for Area 40 blog. Thanks Wes!)

Rodney's Cardboard: 1995 Pro Line Classic Game Of The Week Redemptions Rodney Hampton/Cortez Kennedy

It's Rodney's Cardboard and it's back on Sport Card Collectors...well Matt's Wonderful Blog Of Hobbies.

Today's card took me awhile to find and add to my collection as it's getting nearly impossible to find any new Rodney's now-a-days. It appears Panini's run with Rodney is over.

Before I picked up this cheap card, I messaged the seller and double checked that this card was not the foil version as I have that one. The foil version looks the same as this card but has foil with the score if that makes any sense to you.

These interactive cards were randomly inserted into packs of 1995 Pro Line. There were 30 cards in the set and the only way to acquire the card below was to be one of the first 2500 participants who submitted 10-20 different game cards with the actual winner of the game. The winners received the second prize which was a complete set of 30 NFL Pro Line winner cards with the final score of the game foil stamped on the card.

Here is the front of the card. Seattle beat the Giants that day, but in 1995 who didn't beat the Giants who finished 5-11 that season.

Back of the card tells you more about the interactive game and how to submit/etc.

I may have to think outside the box to continue Rodney's Cardboard every Sunday and maybe even re-visit some of the cards and maybe rainbows I already posted.

I think I saw a request once for that. So more Rodney to come!

Just Makes You Smile

This has been a very long week in my household with a variety of bad news popping up.

I really needed a smile.

Luckily for me, my latest trade with @MaxxPower68 arrived and brightened up the week.

My interest in Allen Ginter non-sports continues to grow and a good portion of this trade brought me some new ones. Some were from Far, Far away.

Hats Off and World Leaders.

These Birds Of A Feather flocked in my mail box together.

Arboreal Appreciation. Cardboard comes from trees, seems only appropriate we celebrate trees.

Animals on cards, works for me.

A group of fun non sport characters.

I always thought this was such a great insert line to celebrate real heroes.

There were also some football cards along for the trip as well. Some much needed help for my 1995 Pinnacle Trophy Collection chase. These always make me smile with nostalgia.

(this Jeffereson is actually an Artists Proof but dufex still makes me smile)

Speaking of making me smile,

If this card featuring Martin Mull hugging a football happily doesn't bring you joy, then you should be checked. This was my favorite card out of the entire mail day.

Thanks again to @MaxxPower68 for the trade. I hope we can do another one soon.

I am glad this week has come to an end, just hope next week can go a little better.

I hope the rest of you have had a great week.

Rodney's Cardboard:1997 Pro Line Printing Plate

I do have one more printing plate to show off that we will save for another time as I think we need to break this up some. Today, we are showing off a 1997 Pro Line Printing Plate I was able to acquire thanks to a trade again with my buddy Shane from Cheap Wax Wednesday fame.

I believe this was one of last products in the run of Pro Line in the 90's and what was a great run of it. Their on-card autographs were amazing.

Thanks again to Shane for another great piece. Appreciate it as always!

Rivalries

There was always one team in the 90's the Giants played that gave me nightmares, that team, their rival the Dallas Cowboys.

Not only did the Cowboys always found a way to beat the Giants, sometimes embarrassingly, but it always felt that Emmitt Smith and Deion Sanders were the main reasons why.

Today's card came from 1997 Pro Line and features one of those said players.

Deion always found a way to hurt the Giants. Whether it was as a receiver, a kick/punt returner or as a defender. He was always a pain in the Giants side.

Of course a lot of the times having Dave Brown as your QB didn't help the Giants cause either. But, he did have a great game in the late 1996 matchup surprising the Cowboys with a 20-6 victory.

The Rivalries insert was made up of 20 cards and fell 1:35 packs. Dave Brown was the only Giant featured in the set.

I was able to add this card cheap at Burbank Sportcards Beckett Marketplace where I saved 10% by using code 15Burbank at checkout.

Let's Talk About Sets Volume 57: Pro Bowl Die Cut

1995 was probably one of my favorite years to collect. So many fun creative base cards and inserts including that 1995 Fleer.

One of these Pro Bowl die cuts could be found in 30 packs. They feature players that played in past and present Pro Bowls.

This set has taken me a little too long to build and now I am only a couple away from finishing it after grabbing these from Burbank Beckett Sportcard Marketplace and saving myself 10% off by using code 15Burbank.

I hope to finish this one very soon!

Rodney's Cardboard:1996 Pro Line Intense Double Intensity

I think it's funny how some of the even easiest of parallels and inserts of the 90's can be the toughest to find.

Take today's Rodney for example. The foil stamped parallel Double Intensity fell 1:5 packs but yet, I have only ever seen one of the Rodney Hamptons ever listed which is the one in my possession. How is that possible? It just is with those 90's cards.

This card though doesn't get into my hands if it wasn't for the great card magician and friend that is Wes.

I was really happy to see this one in my latest mail day from him, which I am still sorting out, but wanted to get these Hampton's posted up.

Thanks goes out to Wes for helping me land this rare but not rare parallel.

Rodney's Cardboard:1997 Skybox Reebok Red

The Skybox Premium line from 1995-1999 was incredible. Lots of fun base card designs, inserts and some unique parallels. Todays' card though, not so much in terms of unique.

It falls under the lame category.

The only thing that makes this a parallel is the Reebok website at the bottom. There is multiple colors to chase and the base card didn't have the website.

Two of the toughest colors to chase were Green and today's, Red. In which I have only ever seen one listing of each ever.

The green one sold awhile back but fortunately for good friends like Wes, I was able to land the red with now only the green left to chase.

I kind of wished I had known about these parallels in the 90's when I bought tons of packs. I remember seeing the Reebok website on some cards but not others and figured it was an error. I guess I should have looked deeper into it. Who knows how many of the rarer ones I just tossed in a dupes box to be sold for $1 a box. Hate to even think about it.

Thanks to Wes on the assist with this!

Breakin' Wax:1995 Pro Line Classic Series 2

Pro Line was a great 90's product that had autographs and top notch photography.

One of my favorite products of 1995, there are many, was their Series 1 Pro Line Classic.

So when I saw a Pro Line Classic Series 2, I was pretty excited.

However, it was a much different product. Instead of autographs, it focused on Phone Cards. Collectible Phone Cards was where it was at in 1995.

So let's check out my next box break thanks to via Shane over at Project Pedro Blog

Every box of 1995 Pro Line Classic was numbered, cause you don't want over production. Every box had 18 packs with 6 cards per pack. Each pack came with one of those "money makers" Prepaid Phone Cards.

The base set looked much different in Series 2 than 1. The photography was still there, but the bottom of the had an added shine to it. The cards were also more susceptible to damage.

Here's a few of my favorite base cards from the 100 card set,

Dave probably throwing to the other team here

Love the background of the Giants endzone

Bretts down and dirty!

Dan busting a move

There was some fun inserts however in this product.
Images Preview Card fell 1:18 packs. Back in the 90's you would sometimes find an insert as a preview of an upcoming product. That Images product was pretty cool by the way with it's etched aweomeness.

Printers Proof on a hot top rookie!! Well, back in 1995. No odds given.

Phone Cards. These fall one per pack for the $1 ones. Odds get tougher the more they are worth.

$2 phone cards fell 1:6 packs

And this $5 one fell 1:18 packs. Not too shabby of a player either

And it's also numbered to 3577. Kind of an odd number to be numbered to, but I will take it.

Gary Vee also had a 90's magazine,

Sorry, that was a Gary Vee joke if he had a magazine in the 90's. This is what I was saying earlier about how hot Phone Cards were and why Pro Line was pushing them so hard.

This was a fun break, not very costly either. I was hoping to land a couple of the cool inserts but no such luck here. It is what it is but the Emmitt Smith was a good find.

Any of you collect Phone Cards in the 90's?

Rodney's Cardboard:1995 Pro Line Classic Game Of The Week

90's cards were simply fun.

There was so much interactive games going on in the hobby from different ones from Upper Deck including Predictor and Crash The Game to ones like today's I hadn't heard of before in Game Of The Week brought to you by Pro Line.

The Game Of The Week cards were inserted one-per-pack. They featured two teams that played each other throughout the season and on the back there was a V or H prefix to let you know if the card is predicting a Home or Visitor winner. Be one of the luck first 1000 participants who submitted 21-30 different game cards with the actual winner of the game, you would get to receive the first prize which was a complete set of 30 NFL Pro Line winner cards printed on silver foil board with the final score of the game foil stamped on the front.

Hence this card. And if figures the Giants would lose back then,

The game also had a huge prize of a Jerry Rice or Steve Young game worn jersey from the season. But, you had to collect all 30 winning cards and then mail them in for that slight chance. I wonder if anyone actually did it.

These are only two of the four Rodney Hampton cards in the set. I am still missing two more which are the opposite of the ones I have. If any of you see them around, let me know!

This is a set I hadn't heard of til I found these despite being someone who busted a ton of Pro Line. But, glad I have them now!

Trevor Bumped Into Some Set Needs

Trevor over at Bump And Run Football Card Blog recently sent me some set needs in a surprise PWE.

I am always working hard on keeping my set needs updated on here, I am a bit behind as the writing of this on April 3rd, but hopefully I can get all of that updated very soon.

Luckily, the set needs that Trevor passed along are ones I still need as I haven't added any to those sets as of recent.

Well, not til now.

1995 Score. I just love this design for some reason or another.

Pro Line Classic with it's top notch photography. This is also a very deep set to collect.

One of my favorite photos from the new set adds was this James Washington. We don't get cards that look this good anymore.

Also found in my surprise PWE were some Giants cards.

Odighizuwa had a lot of potential, but the coaching staff was awful at that time and couldn't coach him the way he needed to be.

I feel Andre Williams also had more to go. Dude was a heck of a player at Boston College but fell off when he hit the Giants team. He had some moments but wasn't showing to be the guy quite yet. Needed more of an opportunity that he simply wasn't getting. Now he is playing the XFL.

And to finish up this mail day, Scoring Kings trio of some of my favorite Giants. I think if Plax hadn't gotten hurt, that Super Bowl 43 could have been on task for the Giants as they were playing lights out football til his injury of shooting himself in the leg. I was also a big Shockey fan. Loved how aggressive that guy played and was always around the ball.

Thanks again to Trevor over and Bump and Run for the mail day. I will be sending you out something once all of the craziness ends and once I get your address again. It keeps eluding me.
