Giant's Sunday: Brent Sent These

It's Sunday and another Game Day for the boys in Blue. Today, the Gmen are on the road after their home beatdown by the Seahawks.

It doesn't get any easier today on the road either as they face one of the league's best teams in the Miami Dolphins.

It could get ugly fast with both sides of the ball playing terrible.

 

All I can hope is that this guy can get healthy and play this week. They will need him.

I keep waiting for the guys from last year to step up their game as well. Kayvon had a sack last week but otherwise wasn't around. WanDale was probably the best receiver last week but that's not saying much.

It's almost like they forgot about this guy as well. He is a speedster who has decent hands that hasn't even been apart of the offense this season. 

Well, what offense they have had.

Okay, enough with my disappointing rant about this season.

Let's just look at some cards.

Always been fond of Landon Collins. Last year's Pick 6 that pretty much secured the Giants playoff spot against the Colts will always stick in my mind as the biggest play for this team since the Manningham catch in Super Bowl 46.

Two relics I didn't have in my Darius Slayton PC. I am thinking some days maybe I need to put my Slayton PC on TCDB as well and see where I rank.

The X-man is on the roster, but on the practice squad. He hasn't lived up to the hype that was around him for a while. I kept hoping he was going to help this pass rush that needs it.

Well, I am sure I will be watching today's game, maybe covering my eyes by the beginning of the second quarter.

Thanks again to Brent (@Brent3323) for the Giants cards. Even with a lost season, I at least have these cards to enjoy.

I must also note that Brent also sent me some stuff to help me build up a Christmas gift. Great guy!

Tradin' With Dion Again!

My trading has cut back a lot and definitely has cut back when it comes to trading with bloggers. It's hard to be a football and non-sport collector in a world of baseball card bloggers. Luckily, there are still a few bloggers left that collect or have cards that I need which is what led me to another trade with  Dion's Autograph Collection blog.

It gets harder to land Giants cards I don't have from the past, but last year and this year with my lack of funds, it will make it easier on people to trade with me as I don't have much.

But, sometimes there are exceptions to older cards (by older I am talking early 90's and 2008 til 2021) like this Sterling Shepard Prizm silver. 

However, when it comes to Allen and Ginter, I don't mind duplicates.

Or these First Pitch cards. At some point, I really need to see what I need to finish all of the sets for the First Pitch series. I still think this is one of Topps most creative inserts in their base products in a while. Much better than those 86 and 87 reprint inserts I hate.

Thanks again to Dion for the trade and I know we are already working on the next which should be another good one.

Hopefully I can make a few more trades after this one so I can continue to put up new posts.

Sunday's Giants: Goal Line Graph

It's Sunday and it's been a while since I posted a Giants card on Sunday.

Sundays on Sport Card Collectors used to mean Rodney's Cardboard, but with the lack of Rodney's out there that I need, I may need to do some rearranging.

Over the past year, I have maybe added three new Rodney Hamptons if that tells you how tough things have been. Two of which I have shown off with one that I haven't. Stay tuned next Sunday for that unique piece (notice how I didn't say card).

In the meantime, let's check out this Sunday's Giants card.

 

This is a 2020 Playbook Goal Line Graphs of Darius Slayton.

Normally I try to aim for Giant's players I don't have autographs of, but I have always fallen for cards with great photography and this one has it.

This is the second one of these I own, except the other is a blue parallel patch numbered to 49 as opposed to this base one being numbered to 199.

I am not sure how many parallels there are to these, but I don't plan on adding anymore at least anytime soon. We all know how collectors like myself can be sometimes :)

Here's hoping for a Giants win tomorrow night vs the Seahawks!!

Rodney's Cardboard:2021 Playbook Goal Line Autographs Green /25

I don't normally do this, but I wanted to give an eBay seller a shout out.

Shelbmik on eBay was the nicest and easiest seller I have ever talked to on there. Not only did they take a lowball offer because I Super Collect Rodney, but they also sent me a bunch of freebies.

And now the star card of the day,

A Goal Line Graphs auto of Rodney. What a superb looking card. I love the layout and the photography is spot on. Who doesn't love some throwback Bucs jerseys too?

Back Of The Card. Not much info, I wished they had added a blip about the game featured, but still has the cool photo.

Rodney has 2 of these cards in Playbook. This is the /25 Green and there is also, you guessed it, a 1/1 Tag I need still.

Thanks again to the seller for this great deal and bonus cards. Not sure if you read blogs or not, but know how appreciative I am if so.

Breakin' Wax:2021 Playbook Football Mega Box

Every week when I go to Walmart, there is no shortage of finding cards anymore.

Between the prices and the overflow, there is always something to buy.

The only problem is, these products don't come with a "don't buy me" warning.

For example today's box. It's a overpriced retail box that didn't quite provide much, check it out here,

Every mega box of 2021 Playoff football comes with 4 packs of 5 cards. Each box has an autograph or memorabilia card and each box is $50.

The base cards are kinda bland with a little action photography. They mainly focus on the player.

Here were the rookies I pulled in this break. Harris was the best one but the one I was most excited about was the Quincy Roche rookie which was my first Giants card of his.

Each box also guarantees two bronze parallels, here were mine.

I believe one of these parallels are per box as well. These look amazing, just wished I had pulled a Giants one. I may need to track one down.

Next up were my insert pulls,

The insert designs for this product were kinda lame. Felt like filler cards or subset cards to me.

Now onto what you money banks on in this break. The hit....

Memorabilia card of Derrick Henry. Nothing too special, great player, but definitely not worth the $50 price tag.

Overall, this box was awful. I have seen this on the shelves a few times now at Walmart and left it. I don't plan on going back for another round at all.

CARDBOARD REVIEW:2020 Playbook Football (GIVEAWAY!!!)

Football season has ended...well not quite. Football is a year round sport with the offseason as exciting as the season itself.

I am counting down for the NY Giants make their moves and hopefully good ones like last season. I still think they are only a few pieces away from at least getting a playoff spot.

Football card season doesn't ever come to an end either. Even though I did get this product closer to release date, I was waiting for closer to my blogversary, March 1st, before I posted it so I can say.....I AM GIVING AWAY ALL OF THE CONTENTS FROM THIS BREAK!!!

So let's see how it went....

Each box of 2020 Playbook, you get one pack of four cards. All four cards are hits and one of those hits will be...you guessed it, a Playbook booklet card. Each box is $420.

There are not any base or inserts in Playbook hobby as that's saved for the retail version. Since this isn't a retail break we are going to go straight for the hits and save the other info if I do a retail break.

FINAL THOUGHTS
I really like the playbook booklets, mine was solid but there are many booklets in this product that will blow your mind.

As for the break itself, the cost and value...well.....

"I'll Be There for You" was sung by The Rembrandts which was used as the theme song for the popular TV show Friends, that aired on NBC from 1994 til 2004.

The show starred Rachel Green who found childhood friend Monica Geller and quickly become roommates. The group of friends continued to grow with Joey Tribbiani whose catch line "How You Doin?" became a must use 90's pick up line for guys or maybe it was just kids I went to school with. Joey became roommates with the ecstatic Chandler Bing and moved across the hall from Rachel and Monica. Then you throw in two other friends in Phoebe and Monica's older brother Ross and you have a show. A lot of the show takes place in Manhattan coffee house named Central Perk, creative name, or in Monica and Rachel's apartment which was there popular hang out spots. The comedy follows their lives of love, heartbreak, everyday life struggles and friendships between each other and many other fun guest stars.

It was one of the most popular series of all time and one I wished that would be revived like many other 90's sitcoms have. I believe I have seen every episode now.

With so much going on in the world today, it's great to know that I have some Friends as well to turn to. These aren't sadly local friends, but friends I have made online which are better than real life friends. One of my greatest friends is Wes who recently retired from blogging but still exists on Twitter where we talk on a daily basis.

On Tuesday, I had celebrated my birthday so Wes did was Wes does, sends a surprise. So for my birthday he sent this box of 1997 Scoreboard Playbook football. It  wasn't a product I quite remember that well as I am not sure if I did or didn't bust any, so it would be a fresh memory for my mind now.

Each box of 1997 Scoreboard Playbook came with 24 packs of 5 cards each.

As with 90's collecting, there were no guarantees other than that you will have fun. It's not like today where collecting is all about value chasing. This was a plain and simple rip for fun, not rip for flip which I feel has taken over the hobby. All I see on Twitter from almost every person I follow has a card for sale. Doesn't anyone trade or just collect anymore??

The checklist is a small one of 100 cards and features three different insert sets and one autograph set. I was hoping that the 120 cards in here I would accomplish the base set.

 

The base set is pretty basic. Each position has their own unique look to them. Quarterbacks look like this Kerry Collins. Which is also a new Collins card for me.

 

Mark Brunell. Another 90's QB I fell for.

 

Steve McNair, RIP.

Jake The Snake Plummer! Rookie card as well.

 

John Elway is still running. He is also running the Broncos front office and could be running himself out of a job if he can't figure out their Quarterback situation.

 

Running Back design looks like this Emmitt Smith.

Tiki Barber rookie card! New to me.

Ike Hilliard shows us his rookie card and the wide receiver design. I probably should have captured a defensive player as well but picture something similar but sideways.

The inserts weren't too flashy like a lot of them at the time, but they did look nice and had some die cut action.

Franchise Player fell 1:6 packs and captured the players their respective franchises could build around. The design looks similar to a ticket.

And a new Giants card.

Ricky Watters who was very underrated.

Peter Boulware who made defenses aware he was around.

Mirror Image falls 1:24 packs and features top players in the league. I would suspect at those odds you would find one per box.

 

John Elway. Not going to complain about this pull.

And finally, I didn't land a hopeful autograph. I really wanted a Favre and would have even accepted a Kordell Stewart I need as well, instead I will take the card at the same odds of an autograph in Title Quest.

 

Not all Title Quest card are created equal. The first two in the set fall 1:192 odds!! Guess what, TD falls at number two. NIIIIIIIIICE! The other Title Quest cards fall at much less odds of 1:32.

Sadly I wasn't able to tackle the entire base set as I was two cards off, but it was a really fun rip and huge thanks to my friend Wes for surprising me on my birthday. You my friend are like no other.

I am not sure who Wes would have chosen as a character from friends, but I wished I was Joey even though my personality and lame jokes puts me more as a Ross. The only problem is, I always liked Monica better than Rachel, so that would have been a little weird as Ross. So I guess I will settle myself as Chandler in the end. However, let's skip over the whole Janice relationship. That voice!

I may look into a few other cards from this set like the autographs to see if any are reasonable enough for me to snag or trade for. It was appealing overall as a product.
