Coffee With Ted Danson

*takes a sip of coffee, this time a mocha coffee from Dunkin' from the early morning errands, and reminisces back to the 90's*

The 1990's had some of the best sitcoms ever to exist. Not that the 2000's haven't brought us some gems but none of them have really stood out like a few from the 90's. Pretty much everyone has heard of Seinfeld, Friends, Home Improvement and Everybody Loves Raymond just to name a few. It was a great time to watch TV and most of these I currently watch on repeats on multiple channels.

Sometimes though, it's not always the headlining sitcoms that were/are the best. Sometimes you find that gem in the rough you simply laugh your pants off at. One of those sitcoms that comes to mind for me is Becker.

Becker starred the great Ted Danson, who most remember from the NBC hit Cheers, who played the lead in the show as Dr. Becker. 

The show took place in NYC in a small doctors office run by Dr. Becker who was cantankerous and easily annoyed by his patients, friends and the world but yet cared about all of it. Which is why his friends and patients stood by his side despite how he may have treated them. 

Some of the patient and Dr. Becker interactions were absolutely priceless and left me rolling on the floor laughing.

*takes a sip of coffee remembering some of the interactions and trying not to choke on the sip*

Just last week, I acquired a signed piece in a trade with Dions Autograph Collection of Dr. Becker (Ted Danson) for my TV Collection.

As always, I am a tad concerned on whether this is an authentic signed piece or maybe a pre-print. The autograph photo came from a friend of Dion's who collected autographs as well. This was either from a signing, fan mail or TTM. 

From research I have done, it appears Danson's signature changed a lot from them until now if this is signed by him. This is a clear written out name while newer ones you can read the word Ted with his last name being more of a scribble. If anyone has any input on this would love to hear it.

If this happens to not be real, I will have to acquire a real one with a COA from a respectable company. Either way, this is a cool piece and thanks to Dion for the trade.

Becker ran on CBS from 1998-2004 covering 129 episodes. If you haven't ever heard of it or seen an episode, go find one and I bet you will want to watch the series.

Currently Danson plays on the sitcom Mr. Mayor as the lead after a successful run on The Good Place. Last show I watched him in was CSI where he took over the lead as D.B. Russell. It was odd seeing him play on a drama after many years of doing comedies but he did pretty well in that role.

Thank You Brett Favre

Growing up in the 90's I witnessed some incredible quarterbacks play in the NFL. Sadly none of them played for the Giants. I feel sorry for those who missed out on guys like Dan Marino, Steve Young, Warren Moon, Randall Cunnigham, Mark Brunell, Troy Aikman, and the guy we are talking about today, Brett Favre.

90's football basically was about three teams. The 49ers, the Cowboys and the Packers. Those three teams always battled for position in the Super Bowl and always destroyed my Giants when they played them. Out of those three teams I always wanted to see the Packers win the most as I didn't like some of the 49er players and the Cowboys were a division rival.

There was also 90's football being played in my backyard and I only ever played two positions, WR and QB. Most of the time I was WR because of my height and hands but sometimes they would use me for QB. When I got the call, I didn't want to mess up. So what did I do not to mess up? I modeled myself after an NFL QB. No not a Giants QB like Danny Kanell or Dave Brown, I did say not mess up remember, I would be the gunslinger Brett Favre.

I would throw the ball as fast as I could to open guys avoiding interceptions that way. I saw some interviews on Brett's WR's and how they said he made their hands hurt because of the velocity he put on the ball. Now my ball wasn't ever that fast, I was only 12 or 13, but it went pretty fast for someone my age and it worked.

Ever since the 90's, I have been a quiet Favre collector putting together a decent sized collection of his cards. He is the one Packer I try not to let go of. Just ask @90sNicheFootball blog how many he has tried to pry away. I don't know why, I just can't let him go.

Other than my in general liking of the guy, it may also be because in 2001 when he "allowed" my guy Michael Strahan to sack him breaking the all time season record with 22.5 sacks. It was an obvious fall to the ground whether they admit to it or not. Or it could be from 2007 when he threw an interception in overtime to Corey Webster leading to a Giants game winning FG and a trip to Super Bowl 42 that they won over the undefeated Patriots. Whatever it is, I like to keep what I have.

At some point Brett will be apart of my Player Profile segment.

But no matter how hard I have tried, I haven't ever landed an autograph card of the guy. I currently have him on my want list and it seems my odds of ever landing an autograph card of his is going down. Prices are too high and I haven't found anyone yet willing to let one go.

However, my odds of landing Brett's autograph in general went way up when I won a recent contest from @eKeeshOnline.

Simply mind blowing. @eKeeshOnline has thrown some amazing giveaways but this one has to be the tops so far and I have thanked them immensely. This was even cooler than the Aaron Judge Inception auto jersey card I tried to win. Brett is a legend as opposed to Judge who could be a one-and-done. I am telling you this because you really need to give them a follow. They also have very interesting hobby topics to discuss as well.

I still kept a Favre autograph card on my wantlist for someday, in the meantime, I am very happy with this piece. At least I will always have his autograph and that's not something I thought I would ever say.

Too Low For Zero

I don't discuss my music likes on here very often, but I will touch base today some on one. I know most bloggers or readers expect the usual heavy metal/rap/hard rock/alternative songs that most bloggers/readers like, but that's just not me.

I am more of a 90's pop/love song, Paramore, Christopher Cross, Eagles, Duran Duran, Hootie And The Blowfish, Chicago, Dave Matthews Band, Goo Goo Dolls, Gin Blossoms, Elton John kinda guy. There are many others I could list but gave you a very short rundown as an example.

I have never been a fan of screaming and yelling songs or songs with language even though I did go through a rap era for a couple of years in 2000-2001. As I have gotten older, I tend to appreciate the songs that I grew up listening to on the radio or heard my parents listening to.

One of those guys is the one and only, Sir Elton John. A little while ago I saw that Autograph Blog had a TTM address for Elton and I knew I had to jump on that. My father listened to Elton all of the time and the one cassette tape we had and played a million times in the car on our way to card shows was Too Low For Zero. That tape had big hits such as, I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues and I'm Still Standing.

So I wrote Sir Elton a letter and explained my fandom to him, in return, I got this pretty cool mail day all the way from UK,

 

Disappointingly however, is the fact this is a copy which is what the letter states as Elton didn't have time to sit down and sign photos with so many letters flowing in. I think this is a cool piece coming from where it came, but it was quite what I was looking for in terms of nostalgia. So I have sent another letter to the same address requesting it once again. We will see this time if I can score one or lose out again. (update:I mailed this out in October and have yet to hear back. I am hoping that is a good sign)

I still listen to Elton's old and new music today. And of course I picked up Too Low For Zero on CD and listen to that as well to bring back those memories.

I am only guessing, but one of you guys must have a favorite Elton song, so what is it?
