Sacrifices And Help

(NOTE: I just had to update this on 8/18/2018 from the original time I typed up this blog post in July. Many things have happened to my set since! Sorry for those of you who have already read this before my updates but it posts many hours before I wake up to fix it)

I have a big unveil to do on here soon of my biggest hobby project yet. I can't wait to do so! In the meantime, let's check out what else I have been up to.

Another hobby project I am really working hard at is finishing up my Ghostbusters autograph set. Something I am not sure if I will ever be able to accomplish. I do know I won't be able to do it without the help of my trading buddies to complete it. Which also means it may take some sacrifices from myself as well.

In a recent trade with my buddy @Jake1725, I gave up a few cards I normally wouldn't have and it took some courage, but in the end I was pretty happy to add this tough to land autograph for my set.

His autograph is not cheap what-so-ever . Go ahead and look it up on eBay. This is the third biggest card in the Ghostbusters set to land. I now own this one and the Akroyd. Not sure how I will ever be able to afford to pull off the Jennifer Runyon need.

Jake scored this card for me off from eBay and the seller even included a freebie. I had to crack up at the Feces part.

Signed. Pretty cool.

Thanks Jake again for the trade and the big time set help!
Up next, no sacrifice here. Just a surprise prize I won from Gavin over at Breakdown cards for his 1300th post on his blog contest. The prize was not known except being PC related.
He first put these Yankee cards n

Love this Dimaggio. Didn't have this one.

and then left me a surprise...
Boom! Larry King autograph! Another one knocked off from the set list.

Gavin knows all about the chase for this set. He has already completed his in a short time vs my 2 year long search. But, this year I have gotten closer at I have knocked down quite a few and hopefully will end my search for the set by years end!

If you trade with me at all, PLEASE PLEASE consider this to be a plead for help as my biggest want in return right now. I have plenty of trade bait in exchange for help. If you trade with me, well, there are only three left to grab right now that I need. Please consider these as my top wants, not that I wouldn't still trade for my other usual goods, but these are at the very top. Check out my Ghostbusters autograph want list tab to see which ones I need or the right side of the blog. Thanks!

And a thanks goes out again to Jake for the trade and for Gavin's awesome surprise prize!

#SCC6YR BCW Prize Pack Winner!

I must apologize for the delay in posting my winner for this contest on here. I got glasses yesterday and it's taking some adjustment to get used to. I have never had glasses in my entire life but after finding out I have astigmatism in both of my eyes last week, I had to finally get a pair. It's definitely going to take me some time to get used to.

I read through all of your comments on the BCW contest entry page and it seemed like a lot of you agreed that the box breaks and reviews are your favorite reads on here. I am actually happy about that since it takes me an hour plus to write those.

As I stated for that contest, a winner would be determined by the amount of views that post would get. So the amount of views was 534 total. I did expect more but hey I will take it.

The closest person on this was.....

Jafronius with 555. He was only 21 off. One other was close with their guess of 500 but this one takes the cake.

Congrats to Jafronius on the contest win. Please email me at sportcardcollectors@hotmail.com with your address with subject line BCW Winner and I will pass it onto BCW Supplies.

Thanks to everyone who entered. There will be another contest firing up tomorrow so stay tuned!

Thank You Brett Favre

Growing up in the 90's I witnessed some incredible quarterbacks play in the NFL. Sadly none of them played for the Giants. I feel sorry for those who missed out on guys like Dan Marino, Steve Young, Warren Moon, Randall Cunnigham, Mark Brunell, Troy Aikman, and the guy we are talking about today, Brett Favre.

90's football basically was about three teams. The 49ers, the Cowboys and the Packers. Those three teams always battled for position in the Super Bowl and always destroyed my Giants when they played them. Out of those three teams I always wanted to see the Packers win the most as I didn't like some of the 49er players and the Cowboys were a division rival.

There was also 90's football being played in my backyard and I only ever played two positions, WR and QB. Most of the time I was WR because of my height and hands but sometimes they would use me for QB. When I got the call, I didn't want to mess up. So what did I do not to mess up? I modeled myself after an NFL QB. No not a Giants QB like Danny Kanell or Dave Brown, I did say not mess up remember, I would be the gunslinger Brett Favre.

I would throw the ball as fast as I could to open guys avoiding interceptions that way. I saw some interviews on Brett's WR's and how they said he made their hands hurt because of the velocity he put on the ball. Now my ball wasn't ever that fast, I was only 12 or 13, but it went pretty fast for someone my age and it worked.

Ever since the 90's, I have been a quiet Favre collector putting together a decent sized collection of his cards. He is the one Packer I try not to let go of. Just ask @90sNicheFootball blog how many he has tried to pry away. I don't know why, I just can't let him go.

Other than my in general liking of the guy, it may also be because in 2001 when he "allowed" my guy Michael Strahan to sack him breaking the all time season record with 22.5 sacks. It was an obvious fall to the ground whether they admit to it or not. Or it could be from 2007 when he threw an interception in overtime to Corey Webster leading to a Giants game winning FG and a trip to Super Bowl 42 that they won over the undefeated Patriots. Whatever it is, I like to keep what I have.

At some point Brett will be apart of my Player Profile segment.

But no matter how hard I have tried, I haven't ever landed an autograph card of the guy. I currently have him on my want list and it seems my odds of ever landing an autograph card of his is going down. Prices are too high and I haven't found anyone yet willing to let one go.

However, my odds of landing Brett's autograph in general went way up when I won a recent contest from @eKeeshOnline.

YES, I WON A STINKIN BRETT FAVRE AUTOGRAPH.

The picture is of Lambeau Field with Brett's golden signature at the top. It's a beautiful piece to say the least.

And also came with Authenticity and a

picture of Brett signing the piece.

Simply mind blowing. @eKeeshOnline has thrown some amazing giveaways but this one has to be the tops so far and I have thanked them immensely. This was even cooler than the Aaron Judge Inception auto jersey card I tried to win. Brett is a legend as opposed to Judge who could be a one-and-done. I am telling you this because you really need to give them a follow. They also have very interesting hobby topics to discuss as well.

I still kept a Favre autograph card on my wantlist for someday, in the meantime, I am very happy with this piece. At least I will always have his autograph and that's not something I thought I would ever say.

The Judge And His Jury

I recently won two contests both from people I have followed on Twitter a long time.

Up first, a 2,000 Twitter follower contest from @JunkWaxTwins who also runs the blog, vintagetwins.wordpress.com, for those who could guess how many relics/autos he has in his Twins collection. Even though I didn't win, he graciously awarded every contestant with a prize.

Mine had the following in it,

Jeets!

Soriano who was a favorite of mine. A-Rod made an appearance as well.

Some inserts from Opening Day including Tex. I didn't have any of these so they will make a new home in my insert binder.

I got Bipped! A well photographed Bip Roberts card. Even though I like what Topps is doing with MLB cards, I still miss what Upper Deck brought to the game.

And to finish up the mail day, a new Aaron Judge for my PC.
A big thanks goes out to @JunkWaxTwins for the mail day! If you're not following him or checked out his blog, please do so.

My next mail day was thanks to @GiraffeVenom who was hosting a Thursday Night Football contest. He surprised everyone when he picked two winners with myself being the second. I actually got the cards I wanted from the big lot that was being offered.

Up first for my unique memorabilia PC, a Pro Bowl jersey swatch of Broncos Chris Harris. I don't own a lot of Pro Bowl material relics so when I find them I try to add them.

Up next, an autograph for my rookie auto PC of Rashad Greene.

A big thanks goes out to @GiraffeVenom for this mail day. Go give him a follow if you haven't yet. He is hosting one sick World Series contest right now!

My First Topps Now Cards

I have always thought the Topps Now program was an awesome idea and a big money maker. Who wouldn't want captured moments of their favorite players throughout the season??!! My only problem was I didn't have the money to invest into it and missed out on many moments I would have bought if I had the money to.

All of the Aaron Judge cards and even a couple of Ken Griffey Jr's just to name a few. Not sure if I will ever be able to track those down.

But, I can at least now can say I own a few of the Topps Now cards thanks to @SpartyHawkCache
on Twitter whose recent contest I won.

I landed myself three cool Kansas City Royals.

The first one was Eibner's walk off win hit. Love the Gatorade bath here.

The Rally Mantis.

And another good rookie in Merrifield that stepped it up.

A big thanks goes out to@SpartyHawkCache for the awesome Topps Now mail day. They may not be Yankees, Griffey or Judge, but I plan on holding onto them for my PC as I may not see another Topps Now card.

If you haven't followed him yet on Twitter please do so. Loves to talk about the hobby and does many giveaways. One of the hobby good guys.

Thoughts on my first Topps Now cards are welcomed in comments.

Not Bad News!

Usually I am not the best at predicting scores or stats for games when it comes to winning prizes, but this one time turned out different.

The good people at @SafeAtHomeShop recently held a Twitter contest to guess the combined total of strikeouts in a baseball game and the winner would score a sweet The Bad News Bears autograph.
This was a card I really wanted to win as I didn't own a single one from that set and it would make a nice addition to the non-sports PC.

Come to find out early the next morning, I was spot on with my prediction and announced as the winner. SWEET!

This auto is of Gary Lee Cavagnaro who played an overweight catcher named Mike Engleberg in the film. This is from Panini's Golden Age product that was released for a couple of years then pulled from their lineup. I really wished they would bring it back. It was like Panini's version of Ginter.

Thoughts on my new autographed card add or the movie or Gary's character are welcomed in comments.

A big thanks goes out to@SafeAtHomeShop for the card. Give them a follow if you haven't yet.
