Saying Goodbye

As I sit here and refresh my news feed waiting on NY Giants coaching news today, which by the way I am all about firing Joe Judge, I begin to think about a few players I could be saying goodbye to when the NFL season officially ends.

Guys like Evan Engram, (possibly) Saquon Barkley, (possibly) Daniel Jones and Sterling Shepard may not be returning next year. These were core Giants players for a few years, and I enjoyed watching them. Yes, even Engram with his game winning drops.

One of the guys I always had a soft spot for was Sterling Shepard. He always seemed like a team guy, but never quite got a lot of throws his way. He did have some big games and started out this season looking like the number one guy, but injuries have been throughout his career and set him back a lot. As much as I wanted to see him succeed in blue, I know after this season full of injuries he won't be back next year or maybe not at all in the NFL.

So today, I wanted to say goodbye by showing off my latest addition to my Sterling Shepard PC thanks to a Christmas gift from legendary blogger Wes.

I also want to thank Shepard for his time with the Giants if this was it as expected.

As for saying goodbye to coaches and the GM, I just refreshed my phone and still no information on it. I just can't see the owners justifying keeping either guy around. The team was the worst in the league.

Player HITlights:Roger Lewis

Welcome to the new segment here on Big Blue Cardboard where I highlight all of the HITS I have of a current or former NY Giants player and rank my Top 5 favorites. Some players will have an unbelievable amount compared to others who may only have a few.

Today we kick it off with Roger Lewis whom I only have one hit of.

 

The one hit is his 2016 Contenders Rookie Autograph.

Lewis went undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft and signed a free agent deal with the Giants. He moved himself up the Giants depth chart and filled in for a few spots in 2016 and 2017 for injured Giants before being released in 2018. He signed a practice squad deal with Tennessee in 2018 and Indy in 2019 but never made a roster.

One of the most memorable moments I remember about Lewis was his insane catch in overtime on 4th down against the KC Chiefs in 2017 which I will hook you up with here,

I was hoping that the Giants would give him more of a chance, but when the new GM came in the old players went out.

Missing Pieces:2016 Cryptozoic Ghostbusters

Welcome to the new plug-in series here on Sport Card Collectors. This series will take you through every single project I am working on and what I am missing from that project. I am hoping it may also spark some help for what I am missing.

It's been 4 long grueling years of chasing down the Master Set of Cryptozoic Ghostbusters which is why I made this the first post in the series. It took me five to do Psych and hoping I can do the same here. The only difference is I won't own every single 1/1 card from the Sketches and Animation Cels in this product. I will take any and all of those I can get my hand on though.

Currently, I sit at one Animation Cel and two sketch cards.

In my opinion those don't count as apart of my Master Set chase since they are 1/1's. Nobody can own all of those as most probably aren't even uncovered from unopened boxes yet.

Recently I have been knocking down some needs for my chase and have narrowed it down to three  TWO insert parallel sets to owning the Master Set of Ghostbusters.

First Missing Pieces, Character Bio Silver Foil. I do have the Dana Barrett silver foil, but not the rest. So I need C1,2,4,5,6,and 7.

 Second Missing Piece, the entire foil set of Sing For Your Specter. So 1-9 is needed.

Third Missing Piece, the toughest of the three, the Tricks And Traps Cryptonium parallel set. I own the foil set, just not this chromed version. Each card in this set fell 1:56 packs so they are not easy finds and not easy to hunt down. Especially for a product that is four years old.

I also may look for these below at some point, not needed, but would be fun add-ons

Psych:The Complete Autograph Collection

After 5 grueling long years of knocking down one or two cards at a time, here is finally the complete autograph collection of Cryptozoic Psych Seasons 1-8.

This has been a long journey of ups and downs and time of trial. But, with lots of help from friends and family, my once long dream turned into a reality.

I need to thank quite a few for their help with this project with the biggest thanks going out to @90sNicheFBCard, who helped me a ton with these sets picking up the key cards. Another thanks goes out to my wife who helped add some of these as well. Other thanks goes out to @Jake1725 and @ShaneSalmonson who organized a birthday gift for me with help from others as well that deserve thank yous and landed me the biggest card I needed for the first seasons. Then of course a huge thanks for Wes for tracking down the final piece of the puzzle.

There were lots of fun names in both sets and even if I wasn't a fan of Psych like I am, I may have sought some of these names just to have it for my non sport PC.

Let's take a gander at the Seasons 5-8 set that I accomplished first. There are 26 cards in the set including a dual autograph of the main characters. There are plenty of great names in this set including Ralph Macchio, Jason Priestly, Diedrich Bader,French Stewart,

Anthony Anderson, and Val Kilmer just to name a few.

 

The Seasons 5-8 set was a tad easier to build with autographs falling 3 per box. They were much more plentiful. My biggest challenge was landing the dual autograph in the picture above which @90sNicheFBCard ended up finding for me.

The Seasons 1-4 set I almost didn't bother with. The autographs fell 1 per box which brought the pricing well beyond my budget. But, once I got the James Roday as my birthday gift, I started to slowly chip away through trades. Then came the final piece that Wes snagged and I was simply amazed that this all came together.

Once again, some fun names in here like Rachel Leigh Cook, Jaleel White,

 

And George Takei which I think is still my favorite autograph of the group in this set.

There are 37 autographs in total in both seasons and you just saw them all. Originally there was supposed to be 38 but I believe the lead girl in the show who was James Roday's girlfriend in real life I believe as well at one point, Maggie Lawson must not have wanted to do it so they never replaced her card in the set.

There were a few other characters I wished they could have had autographs of in the set, but sadly the show has ended so I don't ever to expect to see a Anthony Michael Hall or Cybill Shepherd or especially a Cary Elwes autograph. His character was iconic in the series as Pierre Despereaux.

Just because I am done with the Psych autograph series doesn't mean I am done with Psych. I still have lots of needs for the relics and still plenty of insert needs that need to be knocked off. I am hoping once again with the support of friends and family, we can make this happen.

All Washed Up

I did something stupid recently.

I left a stack a stack of cards I was pulling from sleeves near a pile of dirty laundry (the cards were stacked on my desk but weeble-wobbling above the dirty laundry on the other side of my desk) and upon picking up the pile, some had fallen into it. I was pretty sure I had grabbed them all when I was sorting the clothes out until I had washed the load....

A 2016 Panini Prizm Jarvis Landry base card was left behind in the midst somehow. I don't like having a card destroyed but at least it was just a base card. Could have been a lot worse.

So if you are curious what happens to a Panini Prizm base card after going through the wash, well. here we go.

The sleeve it was in is and still is soaked. I can't seem to dry it and probably won't bother anymore at this point.

The front looks no different but you can feel it.

 

The back of the card shows that the middle wasn't wet yet.

I have been trying to dry the card out for awhile now and it doesn't seem to be healing any better and pretty much looks the same as it did coming out of the wash. All I know is, next time I will make sure that I sort my laundry as well as I sort my cards.

Happy Birthday Tooth Me

Today is my birthday. So thanks in advance if you comment Happy Birthday as it may take me a few days to respond as this won't be my ordinary birthday of doing nothing. This year, today, I am getting my last wisdom tooth pulled out finally. Sadly it was the only day they had available to squeeze me in so I had to take it. I am dreading it big time.

Fortunately, I was able to focus on someone else mouth so far today instead of my own. One of the more famous "mouths" in sports. The one with a gap in their teeth and one that played for the New York Football Giants......

You got it! Mr. Michael Strahan!!

For my birthday this year my wonderful wife picked up my first ever autograph of his. It's a beautiful card with lots of shine. I also really like his signature.

It is also numbered 2/25 so not an easy find but was found at a more than reasonable price.

I am not sure how many days it will take for me to recover from this tooth pull, but I will try to check in time to time on here and Twitter. This tooth is impacted and close to the bone so it won't be the best of times I will be experiencing and depending on what time you are reading this, I may already be done with the procedure. 

At least I have this card to stare at for a few days to try and distract me and my wonderful gift from my hobby friends I am posting about tomorrow....

Busting Makes Me Feel Good

If you didn't know, I am a huge Ghostbusters fan. The movies and The Real Ghostbusters cartoon.

When Cryptozoic released their Ghostbusters trading cards, I was fortunate to bust a box and did fairly well pulling a pretty sick slime card. However, once I found out they had animation cel cards from the show I watched when I was a kid, I needed one.

So I jumped onto eBay. These only fell 1:36 packs but are 1/1's, prices were quite decent on most and I didn't have the funds to pour a lot in. So I looked for the cheapest version and here it is, for $9 I thought it was a pretty good add even though I don't remember who this character was anymore.

I hope to add more of these down the road along with more autographs and slime cards. So far, I just have one of each. This product isn't the cheapest in the world to buy per box or get singles of. So as far as chasing each part down in set form, I don't think I can even touch it, but just to add as many as I can of each, I will take that.

Eli Picks:2016 Donruss Dominators

Eli's Picks is a segment where Eli himself, well a stuffed Bleacher Creature version, picks his favorite base/insert cards to show off. This is the first time this segment has been featured here on Sport Card Collectors. I will see how it goes before I do more than a couple.

 

So Eli decided he wanted to show off some shine early in the season with this attractive card.

These Donruss inserts bring you back to the 90's version with cracked ice look and appeal. The difference being, these are numbered to 999 and not 10,000.

I was really hoping Eli was going to show off some shiny new bling this year, but no hopes of that as this season and his are a complete washout.

I believe I acquired this insert in a trade with the great 90's Niche Football Card Blog.

Just Encased You Had A Redemption....

I cannot remember how long ago I got today's card. It was not long after the 2016 Panini Encased product released but I have been so backed up on blogging that it's taking me this long to get it posted.

But, remember when I told you I don't mind redemption cards because I let them go the 4 months so I can actually get something I would want more, well, this was the case. Or I should say, the encase.

I had two some-what decent redemptions end after 4 months and just like I normally do, I contacted Panini Customer Service Via Twitter to get them replaced. You can ask to get them replaced on Twitter which makes the process much faster.

At the time I had no idea what was arriving in their place, then this bad boy showed up a few days later...

 

Wow! What a beaut! Now you see what I don't mind redemptions too much? What were the odds I actually pulled this in a box instead of have gotten those redmeptions...astronomical. I never pull PC stuff.

So when I see a redemption card in my box, I just smile and wait.

MT, A Redemption Mail Day

A few months ago I busted a box of 2016 Panini Optic and pulled a redemption as my autograph hit...just my luck. But, I don't mind redemptions personally. Usually I mark 4 months on them when I redeem them so I can exchange them later on for NY Giants cards I actually want.

To my surprise, the Michael Thomas autograph I pulled from Optic came just a month later. Not a bad looking card and is an on-card auto. However, he has a terrible signature.

 

I am not going to complain about this one actually showing up however. This guy showed some spots of talent last year and with Brees down a top WR, this guy could be ready for super star status.

Who You Gonna Call?

GHOSTBUSTERS!!!

Thanks to @DJSeneseiNJ I was able to knock off another one of my cards on my want list but more on that in a second.

Ever since the conclusion of my Psych autograph set chase for seasons 5-8, I have been debating what my next project may be to tackle. I still want to finish up Psych season 1-4 autograph set with only 6 left I need, but I can't find them all and they are all listed pretty high for the ones I can. So in the meantime, I have been scoping out some Ghostbusters cards. I really like the product as a whole and collecting the Slime cards would be a fun set or the animation cells would be as well even though they would never be a set because they are all 1/1.

The autograph set would be pretty awesome, but could be costly unless I can find some traders that can help.

That's where today's post comes into play as @DJSeneseiNJ traded me two of the harder finds in the set.

Up first,  Jason Reitman who played Brownstone Boy and made a sarcastic remark about the Ghostbusters being out of business in the second movie. Jason's father is Ivan Reitma who was the director of the Ghostbusters films.

 

Up next, the big whammy of the whole set, Dan Aykroyd. This may be the best card in my collection.

 

 I was so stoked we were able to work out a deal for this one. I had this one on my want list in general as I enjoyed Dan in Ghostbusters but many, many other films as well.

My First Topps Now Cards

I have always thought the Topps Now program was an awesome idea and a big money maker. Who wouldn't want captured moments of their favorite players throughout the season??!! My only problem was I didn't have the money to invest into it and missed out on many moments I would have bought if I had the money to.

All of the Aaron Judge cards and even a couple of Ken Griffey Jr's just to name a few. Not sure if I will ever be able to track those down.

But, I can at least now can say I own a few of the Topps Now cards thanks to @SpartyHawkCache
on Twitter whose recent contest I won.

I landed myself three cool Kansas City Royals.

The first one was Eibner's walk off win hit. Love the Gatorade bath here.

Combined Shipping Landed Me These

When 2016 Contenders released and I saw Roger Lewis Jr on the checklist, I immediately began a search to add him. I think the Giants found a diamond in the rough with Lewis Jr a late round pick.

But, price was a driving factor and I couldn't afford one right off...til I found the right deal.

I ended up picking this one up for $4, which I am sure it goes for much less now especially after the Giants added Marshall but this add happened months ago. I at the time expected Lewis to compete for the slot receiver spot and now I am not sure he makes the team since they are stacked at the position.

I guess either way I am still happy with the addition just in case.

 

Along with the Roger Lewis, I added this Allen and Ginter relic from the same seller. Why? Cause I like the oddball relics from the set and I needed to get a combined deal to $5 to get the free shipping. I have no idea who Keri is but for $1, it's a cool add.

Sketch Battle

Do you follow @georgenadeau (who is the developer of licensed collectibles for Cryptozoic of multiple brands)on Twitter yet? Dude hands out cards pretty much everyday and previews upcoming Cryptozoic products. Also a cool guy to talk to.

Back in the fall if you remember, I won an awesome puzzle piece card from their Big Bang Theory product and after many RT's finally won again with the cards featured today. This time a 2 card 1/1 sketch lot.

These are pretty cool as they are also a puzzle put side by side as they are battling. The artist Chris Meeks did a great job on these to.

Hmmm seems like a movie just came out about this one below.....

Perking Me Up

I have met some incredible giving friends on Twitter and one name continues to pop up in posts on here, @JGfan24ever. I can't even count the amount of times I have seen this guy give out #HobbyLove and #PayItForward to so many.

This time once again, he gave to me and couldn't have come at a better time. Recently I have had some health struggles landing me in the ER a couple of times and an overnight stay in the ICU. A new med I was taking to help prevent future kidney stones since I am prone to them had an adverse reaction  causing my potassium to slip among other electrolytes and leading my heart to pound out of my chest among many other scary effects. I was hooked up to heart monitors and put through many tests to make sure all was well. My pulse rate hit 150+ a few time and stayed steady at 125 most of the time for someone who usually has a 70-80 rate. It's something I hope I have moved on from now but I can say I don't completely feel 100% yet.

Well, anyways, time to move my mind away from that and get PERKed up.
