Single Card Mail Day:2017 Elite Passing The Torch Autograph Sterling Shepard

Yesterday was another Single Card Mail Day for me. Incoming cards have been a bit slow the past couple of weeks.

Today's post comes via a RAK I got from my friend @Brent3323 who grabbed this Sterling Shepard autograph from a stack seller on Twitter.

It's a nice-looking autograph card from 2017 Elite of Passing The Torch. The only thing I question about the card is the fact that past releases with Passing The Torch used to be dual players on a card, one was a legend, and the other is a rising star that was being handed the torch. However, this was just a one player card. Guess he is getting ready to hand the torch to someone else? Especially since this is most likely was his last season with the Giants.

The autograph is /99

And features a pretty plain back.

I think with this Shepard autograph it puts me into the double digits of autographs of him.

Saying Goodbye

As I sit here and refresh my news feed waiting on NY Giants coaching news today, which by the way I am all about firing Joe Judge, I begin to think about a few players I could be saying goodbye to when the NFL season officially ends.

Guys like Evan Engram, (possibly) Saquon Barkley, (possibly) Daniel Jones and Sterling Shepard may not be returning next year. These were core Giants players for a few years, and I enjoyed watching them. Yes, even Engram with his game winning drops.

One of the guys I always had a soft spot for was Sterling Shepard. He always seemed like a team guy, but never quite got a lot of throws his way. He did have some big games and started out this season looking like the number one guy, but injuries have been throughout his career and set him back a lot. As much as I wanted to see him succeed in blue, I know after this season full of injuries he won't be back next year or maybe not at all in the NFL.

So today, I wanted to say goodbye by showing off my latest addition to my Sterling Shepard PC thanks to a Christmas gift from legendary blogger Wes.

I also want to thank Shepard for his time with the Giants if this was it as expected.

As for saying goodbye to coaches and the GM, I just refreshed my phone and still no information on it. I just can't see the owners justifying keeping either guy around. The team was the worst in the league.

A Giant Haul

Like we always do. Shane and I pulled off a big trade in what will lead up to a much bigger trade by years end.

Today's haul was a Giant one...yes bad puns today. This isn't even all of the Giants cards as there were Rodney Hamptons involved as well, but most Hamptons I had except for one. That one will be featured on my weekly segment.

These Titans were included in Panini Chronicles. I was quite surprised that this didn't turn into a product. I am just glad two Giants were on the checklist.

Summer Of Wes Card #7

Giant Trade!

It's Sunday which means we are one more week closer to football and I am stoked for this upcoming season. If the Giants can stay healthy in the three preseason games, I feel they can make a push in this division. Of course a lot of that also falls on the shoulders on Daniel Jones who is the quarterback with the most to prove this season.

Recently, I did a HUGE trade with the great Valley Of Cards which gave both of us things we really wanted.

Today, I am showing off all of the Giants cards I landed in the deal while the rest of the trade will be shown off on the other blogs as it doesn't relate to Big Blue.

First up is this banger. A /20 White Sparkle from 2019 Prizm of Giants legend Lawrence Taylor.

Next card continues to grow my Eli Manning PC with this jersey card.

Next, another Evan Engram rookie autograph. I keep hoping he is going to show his full potential (though he made the Pro Bowl last year) but every time that happens, he drops an important catch in a game. I still feel his time is coming and he will explode.

The final card is this Sterling Shepard autograph. One of many I have of the Shep.

Big thanks goes out to my buddy Valley for the trade so I was able to add these Giants to my collection. I look forward to our next trade.

Some great additions today that I will need to update some numbers on overall. Hopefully I can tackle that soon and update my overall Giants collection on here before football season starts and I am overly distracted.

My First 2021 Card

 

I am slacking when it comes to posting on here and wanted to share this card when I first got it. It was more magical at that time when I acquired it.

Even though the celebration happened awhile ago, May 18th to be exact, it's still nice to share my first card with the rest of you anyways.

This is a 2021 Score Gold Zone parallel /50 of Sterling Shepard that costed me $2.25 to acquire. 

On top of the great Score photography, their parallels always add some shimmer and shine and are attractive in-hand. I always start off my Giants new card season by picking some up.

Giants Cardboard:My First Breakdown of 2021

 

Gavin from Baseball Card Breakdown blog and I usually do many PWE trades over the years but the last couple we, mostly I have been slacking. Not sure why because Gavin always sends some great stuff in return and somehow finds Giants cards I don't have. 

It simply must be the fact I don't always know what to send. Hopefully I will figure that out soon so I can keep getting these fun exchanges going with Gavin.

I didn't have the Phil Simms to kick off this post and same goes for Justin Pugh rookie Chrome refractor right here either.

Sometimes I forget that Ron Dayne (1st round pick) and Tom Brady (6th round pick) came out of the same draft. The Giants first round pick in Dayne didn't quite pan out as hoped, unlike that later pick Brady guy, but had his bright spots. I have never seen this rookie of him, though I do own some 2000 Ultra, and I dig it. Love that years design and photography.

I keep hoping for a healthy full year Sterling Shepard where he just blows away the field. You sometimes can see the talent and then he just gets lost. Just like Evan Engram, I hope Shepard can show what he can do in 2021.

One guy that always came to play was Amani Toomer. This guy was completely underrated in the NFL putting up some solid numbers even with some of the QB's he had to play with.

CARDBOARD REVIEW:2020 Playoff Football

Playoff football is here and so isn't Playoff football.

I may or many not have saved this review for this time of year. Nothing is more exciting than the NFL Playoffs, especially when the Patriots are out of them.

Let's see if this box break ended up being just as exciting as that,

Every box of 2020 Playoff football comes with 12 packs of 8 cards each. There are 4 hits in every box and boxes are currently running around $220. Which is probably twice what they normally would but looking at how the hobby is going, I can only imagine where these prices are hiking to next.

BASE:

The base set is built up of 300 cards that feature veterans

Legends of the past

And stars of the future. Speaking of stars of the future, you only find one-per-pack and it feels like long odds of actually pulling the bigger stars. Love was my by a mile my best player of the box.

PARALLELS:

You can find the following parallels, Goal Line, Kickoff, Red Zone, 1st Down #/99, 2nd Down #/49, 3rd Down #/25, 4th Down #/10, Touchdown 1/1.

INSERTS:

I like the chrome technology used on this years inserts. They really stand out, though in some ways, feel out of place with a non base chrome product.

Behind the Numbers has 30 cards to collect. Can't go wrong with the three guys I landed.

Call To Arms has 20 cards to chase

20 cards to fill up Thunder and Lightning set. That Saquon and Slayton is pure fire.

30 cards makes up Rookie Wave. I really like these, especially finding a Burrow.

HITS:

Changing Stripes is made up of players who played for multiple teams. I dig this Dickerson.

Turning Pro. Tua played well and almost led them to a Playoff game up until they met the Bills in Week 17. Wowzah.

FINAL THOUGHTS

The hits were fun, but for me, Playoff was all about those shiny inserts. I really liked those and looked forward to finding them.

When it comes to box price vs what I pulled however, it isn't pretty. Now if that Higgins had been a Burrow that would have changed the story on this one.
