Eli Manning #1,132

The Eli's have been slowly coming in as I am creeping towards my ultimate goal, which is 1,500. Though I plan to keep going from there, it's just a goal I want to reach first.

My latest add was a cheap one and when I can add a cheap game used relic, I will. Especially since they don't make game used football relics anymore. We don't even know who or what wears them now.

I hope to keep adding to my Eli relic collection. Maybe this one puts me at a milestone, I have no idea. I might have to look into that.

Eli's Countdown: Eli #1,052

Today's Eli brings me another step closer to 1100.

I picked up this latest Eli in a Twitter trade. I lost the Twitter @, but I already posted a thank you with this card on there.

This is a gold parallel from 2023 Classics featuring Eli and running back great Tiki Barber.

The card is numbered to 99.

This is my first and only one of these in the run of these inserts. I wouldn't mind owning a few others and might for my chase to 1100.

More Eli to come!

7 Day Trading Card Challenge Day 5:Favorite Hockey Card

My buddy Tim over at Cardpocalypse, has created a 7 day Trading Card Challenge which has taken the blogosphere by storm.

There is a good variety of topics to cover throughout the challenge so are you up for the challenge? I am.

So let's take a look at Day 5 of the challenge. One of my least favorite sports and sports to collect is hockey. Even though someday I would love a Mario, Wayne rookie and autograph of each player. I have so far done really well with trading off a good chunk of my hockey cards but there are some that I won't ever let go of despite not collecting the sport.

Most of those cards come from a Panini product called Classics which was released in 2012-2013. I busted about two boxes of the product and even pulled an Sp autograph somewhere in my collection. I was going to show that one off but can't remember where I put it.

So just for an example, I grabbed one of those cards which was my favorite of the group in this Red Kelly. Great photograph, signature and design of this card. Also, notice the on-card autograph appeal.

Card back also looks great including player stats and a small write up.

That does it for Day 5. Only two days left including a non sport one I suggest you come back for tomorrow.

Chasing Lamar:2018 Classics Football Blaster Box #1

We are back for Part One of Two for the Chasing Lamar finales. Both will be blaster boxes of 2018 Classics football.

So let's get this going!

I found a two blaster box lot for $26 on eBay. That's $13 a box which I found worth it no matter the results. So far this appears to be the last year of Classics football as they switched it up to Legacy which I don't think Collectors were huge on. Classics had a great following.

Let er rip!

Rookies are not easy finds in this box. Three per box! THREE. Odds were against me and I didn't win. However I did add a Carter for my PC, a decent one in Miller and a Jefferson I can send to my buddy Nate

Guess I am a Kirk Cousins parallel seeker, at least the Cardboard Gods felt that way. This is a Blue Back numbered to 175

Peyton Manning Composers

Joe Montana High Praise

Classic Clashes

And my box hit, a Melvin Gordon Saturday Swatches. I really like the throwback feel of the hit and it matches the rest of the product nicely. Sometimes brands can not follow suit all the way through, they did here.

Overall, not too shabby for $13 I don't think. Big named players in the inserts and the hit was a good player.

No Lamar here, but will there be in my finale? Stay tuned!

The Big Tuna

I don't know if you have noticed or not, but on the right hand side of this blog I have a list of NY Giants players, etc, that I have been wanting to get an autograph of. Ones I have been lacking in my collection. I hope to keep the list updated as they come in or I know of them coming. This list will also be moved soon to a tab when I remodel the blog some.

Over the past few weeks since I have added that list, I have been able to knock some off of it via trades and other deals. None of which is as big as the one I am posting about today.

Here is legendary coach Bill Parcells and it's a beaut from Classic. Also numbered 2/25. You know the number 2 the amount of Super Bowls Bill won as head coach of the Gmen. I don't count all of the other teams he coached. Overall in his Head Coaching career Bill was 172-130-1. He was 11-8 in the Post Season including those two Super Bowl trophies. He was UPI NFL Coach Of The Year in 1986 and 1994 and is in the NY Giants Ring Of Honor and also in the NFL Hall Of Fame. How could I not want this card?

One of my stipulations for finding the Parcells card was he had to be in Giants gear and this fit the bill. Get it?

There is much more to go on my list of NY Giants autographs as there are others I will be adding to it soon. At least for now I reeled in the big fish, well, the big tuna.

Never Too Early For Football

Every few months, I usually can expect a mail box with a box full of goodies in it from my friend Grady M who has been a Facebook follower, blog reader and Twitter friend for a long time now. I am not sure what drove him my way, but I am so lucky and fortunate to know him. Really nice guy.

In May, I got yet another box packed to the rim full of inserts, base card and PC specific cards. I really love digging through and sorting it all. I usually take my time when doing so enjoying every moment.

This was once again another hefty round full-o-goodness so it will take a few posts to cover it all.

Today, we stick to the football specifics.

Odell Beckham Jr. I really like the Illusions card. I didn't get that from my box break.

My first taste of 2018 Score Giants. Hopefully I can get more football cards this year unlike last year. But, we will see.

A couple of rookie cards from 2017. Travis Rudolph who had such an impressive preseason last year kind of dropped off when he had a chance to play. But, I think the kid is talented and hope he makes the cut this year. The other rookie here is Evan Engram. This guy should be pure heat this year as long as he fixes the drops he had last year.

Ron Dayne who never really panned out for his high draft status. Was a great collegiate player however. And Landon Collins who more than panned out. One of the leagues best safeties.

Will Tye Prestige parallel. Big weapon but way too many drops. He has since moved on in the Giants house cleaning And of course the Captain, Mr Eli! He was voted the most overhyped player going into 2018, but watch out this year, he will prove critics wrong.

A start of a letterman run? Now I want the rest of these. Would be fun to display. Trading buddies, keep an eye out for these.

Kyle Carter was claimed off the Viking waivers to be one of the backup Tight Ends. I assume the Vikings former offensive coordinator now Giants head coach saw something in him .

Well, that's it for the Giants in the box. There is plenty more to come so don't worry!

2018 Classics /10 Autograph Winner Announced!

Another Panini contest is over and this time the finale was worth it for me. 30+ entrants were in the running to win the /10 Delanie Walker autograph that also comes with bonus cards.

But, only one can win and who was it. Well, here are the views.....445.....

One was 25 off but one was 21 off  with a guess of 466 and that winner is Footballcrdonly! Congrats! Please email me at sportcardcollectors@hotmail.com or DM on Twitter with your address within 72 hours to claim your prize or it will be re-given away.

Thanks to everyone who entered! More contests to come and a big Topps one will start in the fall after Fantasy Baseball season is over. I have a great idea for that one.

Please remember to tag Panini and Tracy Hackler in a thank you for these contests. Without their support I wouldn't be able to give back to the hobby as much. I still do give away my own personal stuff, but with their help it ups the ante. So take a second out today and let them know so I can do more contests like this one and others.

Thanks and enjoy your Sunday! God Bless!

REVIEW:2018 Classics Football+GIVEAWAY!!!!

When Panini first revived the Classics brand, I was so excited. Then I opened a box. Not so much. The following year they released it again, I was hesitant, but still tried some. It was much improved from the previous year. So when this years product came out I was hopeful.

I had only heard great things about this years product and I tend to agree with those that were fans. This is by far the best Classics ever.

Why do I feel this way, well, your gonna have to read on and check the break out.

Every box of 2018 Classics football comes with 14 packs of 10 cards per pack. There are 2 hits per box promising to be one autograph and one memorabilia card. There are also 4 chrome parallels with one promised to be numbered. Boxes currently run under $80 which is a great deal.

The base cards are player focused on photos, but have some full color photography. there is minimal border leaving for more photo and it has a throwback pennant design for the team name. The card in general has a throwback feel.

There are 300 cards in the base set to collect. 100 veterans, 100 legends and 100 rookies.

Here are the Legends. Big name finds up and down the 100 card checklist.

And the rookies. Here are the best from my box. I still NEED SAQUON!!! If you have one or an extra, please PWE it my way!

As with any product, you gotta expect the parallels. I pulled Timeless Tribute ones in gold /99 Tyrod and Orange /25  Toliver. There is also Blue /10 and Black 1/1 not found in my box.

Then came the numbered parallels which you can't tell what you have til you flip them around.  There is Red Back /299 (Wims and Hilton), Blue Back /175, Blank Back /50 (Henry), Green Back /40, No Name /10, and Full Name /5.

Speaking of the card backs. They are a ton of fun by the way. I was going to mention this with the base but didn't take a photo of it. So I will here with the card backs in view. There are stats, a fun write up and a tid bit or trivia involved. Kind of like the old days.

Up next we take a look at the optichromed cards that have 90 in the set. They are a thing of beauty! I can see Panini taking this to a set of it's own before they are done. And hey look who I found..they Saqoun guy :D

Each box also comes with a numbered parallel from the optichrome. I didn't find a bad one at all in this break with Mr.Fournette! I want to chase the Barkley rainbow. Have one? Let me know and let's trade!

Overall parallels for the optichrome,
PARALLEL CARDS: Red Back /175, Blank Back /35, No Name /5, and Full Name 1/1.
TIMELESS TRIBUTES PARALLELS: Gold /65, Orange /15, Blue /5, and Black 1/1.

Let's take a gander now at the inserts shall we? They all have a throwback feel to them and parallels of Gold /99, Blue /10, and Black 1/1.

Classic Clashes takes star players who battled each other on the gridiron many times.

Composers. The QB's of the NFL that play beautiful music when they are on the field. Need to find me the Eli!

Full throttle. Top players in the game that give it their all.

High Praise. Top players in the game and their top stats.

Team Eras. Teammates that "hand the torch" to an equal player at the same position on the team they formally played on

Stickers. Just like the good old days. I want the Giants one.

Instant Classics. Love this card as this game was an instant classic for sure.

And now we move onto the hits!

My first one was a relic of Von Miller.

And my autograph was a Significant Signatures blue /10 of Delanie Walker.

Overall parallels for these autographs are,
  • Gold /49
  • Orange /25
  • Blue /10
  • Black 1/1.
Other hits not found in mine but could be in yours include,
  • Optichrome Premium Edition Significant Signatures
  • Award Winning Autographs
  • Classic Combos Signatures
  • Canton Collection Swatches
  • Classic Combos Materials
  • Saturday Swatches
  • Buyback Autographs
See the overall checklist for the product, HERE.

OVERALL:There wasn't anything with Classics I could complain about. I liked the base set, the inserts and especially the chrome cards. The box price is fairly decent with getting one autograph and one relic per box. I have seen only good breaks from the product so far as well which is very promising.

I do wished we didn't have so many early on college based rookies as I think this set could have been even better if we saw the new class in their NFL uni's.

    Marshall, Marshall, Marshall

Recently I scored a pretty cool card in a contest from @TrueNE_79 on Twitter.

He held a guess the drink contest and I was the closest guess.

In return for my good guess, I scored this pretty slick Classics patch of Marshall Faulk /25. I love the design, patch and overall appeal of the card. I also liked Marshall running in the greatest show on turf.

He not only sent the Faulk, but threw in a bonus as well. My first card from 2017 Goodwin Champions. I think these manu-relics are pretty cool.

A big thanks goes out to @TrueNE_79  for the mail day. Both cards are not going anywhere but my PC. Go give him a follow if you haven't yet. Pretty cool generous guy. Even this Yankee fan follows him despite his Red Sox love.

Thoughts on the Goodwin Champions manu relics welcomed in comments or my mail day!

    REVIEW:2017 Classics Football (NICE PULL)

Classics returns to football again. Last years release bored me honestly and I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about the 2017 version.

Will this year change my mind or will I feel the same...

You will have to read on to find out.

Each box of 2017 Classics football comes with 14 packs per box and 10 cards per pack. You will find two hits this year as opposed to one last year and boxes will run you just under $70. So not too shabby on the price.

The base set is 300 cards deep for those set collectors. It's split evenly between 100 vets, 100 legends and 100 rookies. The rookies are still in their college uni's since it's a pre-draft release. Mitchell was my best rookie of the box. Design is simple, but fits the product name.

There are some tough to find parallels in the product including Blank Back, No Name, and Full Name. They are easy to define this year because they are numbered. Glossy, Red Back /299, Blue Back /175, Blank Back /50, No Name /10, and Full Name /5.

    These are red backs.

    These are blank backs.

And this is the one per box sepia variation. I got Cam.

    Gold unnumbered parallels.

There are plenty of inserts to find in this product as well and they all have gold parallels. The designs give a...guess what..a Classic feel.

These guys take it to The Next Level!

    Players matched with their Idols.

Record Numbers from the 2016 season. Boy, I can't wait til 2017 season!!!!

These were two of my favorites with Classic Clashes between rivals and Career Colors that covers a players career between multiple teams.

Just a few Super Bowl Heroes.

And now we have made it to the hits.

My first pack I found this Classic Materials of Darrelle Revis. This is a prime parallel /50.

My second hit was this boom, a /10 Fran Tarketon Membership auto. He is one of the tougher ones to find in this autograph line.

Other hits not found in my box include,
Significant Signatures,Significant Signatures Gold,Legends Significant Signatures,Legends Significant Signatures Gold,Rookies Significant Signatures,Canton Collections Swatches ,Canton Collections Autographs,Classic Combos Memorabilia ,Classic Combos Signatures ,Flashback Fabrics,Sideline Generals Signatures, Stadium Stars Signatures and Buybacks.

OVERALL, I say this not just because I pulled a good autographed card but I really like this years Classics product. The themes and feel throughout the product were solid. Getting two hits instead of one was a nice decision as relying on one hit in a $70 box is tough.

My only knack on the product was the gold parallels for the inserts. I felt those were unneeded. If you wanted a parallel on the inserts you should have gone with a numbered one. The fact that there were so many base card parallels is another reason they weren't needed especially being unnumbered.

If you enjoy products with a throwback feel with throwback players I say give Classics a run. You may hit it big or you may not. Either way I think you will have fun with this years edition.

Please make sure to take a minute out to thank Panini America for providing this box for me to review and to be able to do a future GIVEAWAY with some of the cards. Follow Panini America on all social media sites and visit their SITE, as well.
