Ripping Wax:2021 Playoff Football Blaster Box

Football season is officially over, but, football card season is not. It appears many releases were pushed off until so I am just getting my first look at them via retail.

Before I show off one of the newest releases, I must admit I lost the picture I had of the blaster box so you will have to deal with without it. I can tell you that every blaster box comes with 8 cards per pack and 7 cards per pack. Oh wait, Panini misprinted the box...I see. Each blaster does though come with 56 cards in the box so there's that. Each box is $27.98 and comes with an autograph or relic card per.

Here were the rookie card finds in my box highlighted by Kellen Mond.

There are also three Kickoff Parallels per box as well. Matt Ryan wasn't a terrible find.

One thing I have always liked about this product is the fact they have chromed inserts and these chromed inserts also have parallels. I was happy to find a Mahomes for the PC above.

Cam Newton (you would think a late season release would have him back in his Panthers uniform, guess not.

woowooww. I really liked the Rookie Wave insert. This one is actually a red parallel. I have a couple coming of Kadarius Toney you can view on Big Blue Cardboard soon.

The hit in my box was this Turning Pro relic card of Kellen Mond. Not too bad, maybe the future in Minnesota?

Wes Sends Some Giants

 This past Christmas, Wes sent a box packed with so many treasures it was always hard to post them all. So for today, I wanted to sum up most of the NY Giants he sent. Well, at least most of the hits he passed along.

The first card was one on my want list and my first relic card of Greg Comella.

The back of the card features Packers FB William Henderson.

The next ones I will try not to wipe my sweat on,

Davis Webb Towel Swatch cards. It made me look further into possibly adding more of these. How cool would a lot of these look together? By the way, Webb recently was signed back to the Giants to play 3rd, possibly 2nd string QB. Interesting.

Another Andre Williams auto for that massive PC.

Hefty Lefty QB! RIP!

Tiki Barber relic. I don't own a ton of Barber hits so any I get in is always a nice add.

Plax. If only he hadn't had the leg incident, that 2009 Giants team could have repeated as champs.

Always like a cool patch card.

Jesse Palmer is another one of those Giants draft picks that was supposed to be the future of the organization. NOt so much.

Another nice Webb swatch, this time a patch one.

Don't get in his way! Brandon Jacobs could run over anyone.

My first relic card of Super Bowl hero Kevin Boss. Many forget about his momentum changing catch.

Ike Hilliard relic. I don't have a lot of Hilliard either, really need to get his auto at some point.

Holy RAKMacatoney!

Each Monday on Twitter, I run a RAK thread, where you list off what you collect and hope that someone responds to you that they have something for you. If you do get that reply, you must find someone to give to. It's a pretty solid system, though sometimes I see it only as a one-sided RAK. Which I try to correct those who take advantage of it being just that.

I was happy to see a new person join in on the fun and was lucky to be one of the chosen ones by @yefnob1326.

At first was really busy and forgot to mail out, but then, he wanted to make sure it was worth the wait when he did and it certainly was.

I was searching for some Mac Jones cards to add to my rookie PC and he surprised me with a nice relic card of him.

The relic is from 2021 Elements.

Then on top of that, he hit me up with some Kadarius Toney!

And then a huge surprise with a Toney autograph. This is my first Toney Giants uniform autograph.

RAK Monday Adds

 Every Monday on Twitter, I run a RAK Monday where you post up wants and others try to help you out. If you are chosen to be helped out, you must pass it on to someone else. Or just give and not take, that's always great too.

Usually the thread goes pretty well and I see a good amount of both. I also join in and receive as well as the administrator of the thread.

One of my last Monday's I got a solid haul from @dtgordo.

 

Odell Beckham Jr. I really miss Odell, just not his antics. I am hoping their top pick in this years draft Kadarius Toney can be of similar in play style.

Anyone miss Upper Deck NFL cards yet...(I miss Osi's pass rushing)

Because I do.  They were always creative with their products.

Rise Up!

2020 was a year we would like to all forget and I am sure one NY Giants RB would like to as well.

Last year was a rough one for Saquon Barkley. The first week against the Steelers was far from stellar and Week 2 wasn't any better. Especially since he got injured and tore his ACL putting him out for the entire 2020 season. I felt his pain since I tore mine in high school football.

Hopefully, he can Rise Up from the injury in 2021.

 

Rise Up was a memorabilia card in 2020 Score. I didn't add too many autograph or jersey cards of Giants in 2020 so adding some is in order and this one was a great start. 

This one I acquired in a larger trade from my father which I will show the remaining goods from that trade over at Cards Over Coffee.

My hope is that Saquon will be the same player as he was in 2018, his rookie year. It's hard to tell how a player with a major injury will play once they return. I just hope the Giants give him all the time he needs to heal completely before throwing him back out there.

Giants Cardboard:Rooting Them On

  

It's always hard to watch the NFL Playoffs when your team is not in, but I usually find a player or team I root on. A lot of the time these players or teams may have former Giants on them or are simply players I collect or enjoy to watch.

This year there is one team in each conference I am keeping my eye on.

In the NFC, Tampa Bay is slowly rolling through the playoffs and beat the Saints yesterday. Yes, they are led by one of the greatest QB's to ever play the game but my eyes are on Jason Pierre Paul. 

Pierre Paul was drafted by the Giants in the first round of the 2010 NFL draft and played 7 seasons, won 1 Super Bowl and played in 2 Pro Bowls for them before they traded him in 2018 to the Bucs for a third round draft pick and a swap of 4th rounders. Seems like a loss for the Giants in that trade and was the beginning of their house cleaning and downward spiral. JPP had a big first year with the Bucs recording 12.5 sacks something the Giants could have definitely used with their lack of QB pressures until this year.

In the AFC, I am rooting on the Chiefs. Actually, I am rooting on the Chiefs to win it all. It would be okay to see JPP win another title but I don't think it would be to see Tom win another as he has enough. I am a big Patrick Mahomes fan but I also like the Chiefs defensive coordinator Spags as well.

Steve Spagnuolo, was hired in 2007 to be the Giants defensive coordinator by coach Tom Coughlin. The season started out tough for his schemes but once the players bought in, they bought in. He led that defense to beat the undefeated Patriots team in Super Bowl 42 in which he sacked Tom Brady so much Tom forgot what game he was in. A couple years later he earned a job as head coach of the STL Rams that didn't go well. He then bounced around different teams before returning to the Giants in 2015 where he led the Giants to one of their worst defensive outputs in team history before the 2016 turnaround where they ranked 10th in the league.

When the Giants began their house cleaning job in 2017, Spags was apart of it. He became the Chiefs defensive coordinator in 2019 and turned their defense into a Super Bowl winning one.

My hope this upcoming weekend will be that the Chiefs and Bucs prevail and set up a Super Bowl where I can just sit back and not care who wins.

As for the Giants, there seems to be some hope. They have a young nucleus, a good head coach and I feel just a few players away from a playoff spot.

Their biggest issue is not having enough offensive weapons with their two only bright spots being

Darius Slayton who was drafted in the 5th round of the 2019 NFL Draft has put up decent numbers with 98 receptions for 1491 yards and 11 TD's in just two seasons. He also has a lot of chemistry with QB Daniel Jones. If he could have stayed healthy in 2020 those numbers could have been higher.

The other bright spot is Super Star RB Saquon Barkley who was drafted 2nd overall by the Giants in the 2018 NFL Draft.

His rookie year was astounding and he was amazing to watch. He put up 1,307 rushing yards, 721 receiving yards and 15 total (11 rush, 4 rec) touchdowns. He looked unstoppable.

A high ankle sprain in 2019 lingered throughout the season but he still managed to put up another 1,000 yard season and had some impressive runs.

In 2020, Week 2 against the Chicago Bears he tore his ACL ending his season. He ended with 34 rushing yards on the season as it was a rough start to begin with. I think if he had stayed healthy, the Giants may have won a few more of those close games they lost later in the season when the offensive line started to gel.

I am looking forward to the 2021 NFL Season. I say this every year that I feel the Giants are a team on the rise but it took til this year to actually feel it. If they can build more offensive pieces around Jones to go along with these guys next year could finally be the take off year I have been waiting for. Maybe for once I will actually have my team to root for in the playoffs.

Arrivals:2020 Playoff Turning Pro Daniel Jones

Usually, I am not a fan of single color relics unless they really have a good design to them.

And today's card, I grabbed for that single purpose.

For less than $5, I scored this Turning Pro jersey from 2019 playoff of Daniel Jones.

I love the color and the black and white photo in the background. The Giants blue goes really well against it.

 

Back of the card looks just as good. It didn't need anymore than this.

I like the little pickups I can get sometimes more than the bigger ones.

All Americans from Prizm Draft with two Pink Pulsar parallels

More Prizm Draft this time with a blue and pink pulsar base parallels. Those pink pulsars look spectacular!

Rainbow chase? Nah. Just trying to get what I can. Chasing a rainbow of a top player is impossible to do with the outrageous costs. But, so far I have base, silver, pink pulsar, green and orange. Could be a couple more on the way as well.

Contenders Lottery Ticket. I really like the look of these with the sparkles, the design as a Lottery Ticket and the Knicks logo that is hidden in the background

Certified Blue. It's not numbered, but hey.

The essential to any NBA collection, a players Prizm rookie. Now if I could only trade for a silver....

Prizm jersey card. My first relic of him.

Then came this. Say what you want about Panini, but these Ugly Sweater relics are the best looking things since sliced bread with melted butter.  The relics are colorful and pop off the cardboard. I landed this one pretty cheap which is still impressive for a top draft pick. I want more of these for sure!

This isn't all of my Barrett's yet. More are on their way but I will save those for another day. $25 A Week challenge returns next week with some brand new finds so stay tuned for that!

Breakin' Wax:2019 Playoff Football Blaster Box

I really wanted to bust some football cards from 2019 since I didn't do much, so my wife went to Walmart and surprised me with a blaster of 2019 Playoff Football.

There are 56 cards in each box and one guaranteed hit. I wasn't expecting anything big, was just hoping for some PC cards.

the base card design is nice. Not a lot of action shots but mainly focused on players which is fine. However, I am a tad disappointed that Kurt Warner had two cards in the base set but neither were him in a Giants uniform...

The base set does however does include many legends of the game including Earl Campbell

and of course veterans like Evan Engram

Rookies

and even a Darius Slayton. Still need the other Giants including Daniel Jones.

I know of a Hook 'Em fan that will enjoy this card I will send sometime. This is a green parallel.

These blasters also include a shot at 2nd down parallels that are /49. Not too bad of a find here.

These Star Gazing inserts are pretty sharp! Antonio Brown

And Baker Mayfield finds for those.

Ooooooh I really like these Air Commands. Really well done Panini! Drew Lock looks to be a stud down the road.

Another great looking insert. Except half the Lightning no longer is a Ram

And once again, another great looking card in this product. Had to be an Eagle of course but now I know I need the Giants of these.

My hit, well, an Eagle. I once again really like the design on this as well. Need to find the Jones and Slayton versions.

Not a bad break at all in my opinion. Got a couple PC cards and a few decent hits. Mainly I am digging the overall design of the product. Really stood out to me this year.
